AT&T APN trick for faster speeds - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

First off am currently on CM9 and flashed UCLC5-Modem here- http://www.mediafire.com/?7vwp5pdsqd1v9ep
Flash it.. Then reboot...BUT I DO BELIEVE IT DOSENT MATTER WHAT MODEM YOUR CURRENTLY USING..
REMEMBER IF YOUR LTE APN DOESN'T STICK, TO DELETE YOUR OLD APN FIRST, THEN MAKE THIS ATT LTE APN THEN, SAVE IT.ENABLE IT....then make other apn if needed be...for the ones having difficulty.
GO TO MOBILE NETWORK>ACCESS POINT NAMES>ATT LTE
MAKE SURE THE SETTINGS ARE EXACTLY LIKE THIS:
AT&T APN Settings
Enter exactly as shown
Name: ATT LTE
APN: pta
MMSC: http://mmsc.mobile.att.net
MMS Proxy: proxy.mobile.att.net
MMS Port: 80
MCC: 310
MNC: 410
Authentication type: none
APN type:default,admin,fota,mms,supl,hipri,internet
APN protocol :IPv4/IPv6 (this setting experimental and is optional)
(make sure NO spaces after commas)
BEARER: LTE (default is unspecified) play with this one..
CLICK MENU button and SAVE settings!!!!
STILL NEED STOCK APN-- in APN TYPE:MMS --this helps to insure you get mms better.

GODDAYUM! Thats fckn AWESOME! Good stuff ma man

I almost pooped my pants when i seen that.lol I've been playing with this all night. And I have to share the wealth with the community!

UCLC5 was the very first ICS leak for our Notes. If coming from stock, you can just use the following ROM link:
http://rootzwiki.com/topic/22134-sgh-i717uclc5-ice-cream-sandwich/
Wonder what the speed differences are between UCLC5, UCLD3 and UCLE2. Be interesting to see someone with the time handy give it a go and compile the results into a multi-colored graph...

Confirmed!
Confirmed working on ATT stock non-rooted phone.
My DL speed at my current location was around 2-3mbps(sucks) now it just went to steady 12mbps and reaching as high as 20mbps after changing the APN settings.
Thanks!

My network type says lte:14
I never have gotten lte before in my house until I flashed that modem.
My wife has a Samsung galaxy s2 from at&t as well...Her phone is not rooted....I tested her device next to mine. With that modem and settings i scored those values....Hers still gets 3-5 mpbs I tested these devices right next to each other. I believe its the combination of the modem and those settings, and or the cm9 rom?

That's weird I'm currently using cm9 and I didn't have those settings in apn type.. I only had default, mms,
I'll flash another modem without those settings and show you what I was getting before ..before and after pics....If anyone else could do the same that would help.

I'm using the latest ICS modem and leak and the settings for "APN type:default, admin, fota, mms, supl, hipri, internet" aren't there. You can only select Internet + MMS

I tried probably every modem...with countless settings to get the best performance..this seems to work the best as of now.. I will keep trying though!

My "apn type" setting is not editable. It only has three selectable options. I guess you can't do this on UCLE2.

You mean wifi? look at the pic i posted. It shows four test with the tower icon which is not wifi..The last two icons are wifi to show people the difference. Did you try the modem? or just the settings, that sucks its not helping.

i717m Terrible with Wind Mobile

I recently got myself a galaxy note from bell and it has not been what I expected. The phone works great for other non-aws providers but a nightmare with wind.
I installed several different modems, not knowing what works the best. Also forced it with *#2263#. However the result are ultimately the same. I'm constantly getting signal drops even though I have 4/5 bars. I'm unable to send texts or make calls even when the bars are near full. The data is essentially unusable at all times.
I have tired the phone with different sims which seemed to be working perfectly fine. Is there anyone having this issue as well or have a solution for it?
If I'm not mistaken, Wind uses the same frequencies as T-Mobile. Perhaps you could read the threads relating to their modems, settings, for some advice.

Yes, I have tried several different models for 1700MHz , all of which have the same problem. I'm able to connect to the network and says I have good reception but I get cut off A LOT!

I select default wind. Not sure what more I have to do.
Are you on Gingerbread or ICS?
I had huge problems at first with Wind Mobile as well until I switched to the TELUS modified modem. People recommend Blaze but in my experience, it was just as bad as yours was.

I finally figured it out! I had to setup the APN manually, now it works as expected.

Some ROMS use the "wap.cingular" APN as the default for AT&T, which won't get you full download speeds in some markets (such as mine). The "phone" APN is currently the best one to use on HSPA phones on AT&T.
OP, the best APN configuration to use it just 1 APN:
Name: (doesn't matter, something like AT&T HSPA+ is fine)
APN: phone
mmsc: http://mmsc.mobile.att.net
mms proxy: proxy.mobile.att.net
MMS port: 80
MCC:<don't change number>
MNC:<don't change number>
APN type: default,supl,mms,hipri
everything else: not set or unspecified
With the old APN configurations floating around, sometimes MMS would not work depending on the ROM. But I have yet to get experience an MMS failure using the APN I posted above, regardless of ROM.

Firstly, I don't want to bring an old topic back from the dead, but is there any CSC that is known for having the proper (or more compatible) ATT settings? It seems to me the BTU is a bit off (data connection) compared to my old phone. Though the above settings helped. Or is it all strictly about the modem?

[Q] Losing data connection

Hey guys, I'm running Aokp and randomly lost data connection today. Everything has been working great and I love the ROM. Cell connection is fine but my data connection just stopped working. I'm coming off of a clean wipe and rom installation. I've checked my data settings and don't see anything wrong. Any idea what could be the problem. Thanks!

I also having trouble with data connections. Tried the fix above and have only edge network. Has anyone been able to get 3g? I am running Task's AOKP and everything was fine until this morning sometime.
Worked like a charm. Thanks guys.
I had the same issues starting today (dallas/fort worth area) and the above apn setting changes got my data back. Speeds are lower than before but not by a whole lot, getting 3.2Mbps down instead of hovering around 4 or so before. Upload is horrid though, 228kbps now...but hey it works again
On AOKP, the APN is already setup that will work. Instead of the first one, choose ATT LTE and change the apn to "Phone" Should work just fine.

I started having problems Friday and into Saturday in places I always have good service. Seems to have cleared up today, though.
I'm now having an issue sending pictures through the stock jellybean SMS app 'messaging'. I hit the attachment icon, navigate to the picture I'd like to text and it sends, and shows 'sending' forever. Eventually it will notify me that the picture failed to deliver. Then it will continue to try to send to no avail. Never had this problem until the other day when all of this happened. Any corrrelation/thoughts?

T-Mobile MMS APN (ABSOLUTE CORRECT)

I have tested this in STOCK, although you have to change APN type to below if phone is restarted. On NOS M7 it will work flawlessly.:good:
OK, you are to go to phone settings>Mobile Data>(Make sure you are on Preferred Network-GSM/UMTS mode first)then GSM/UMTS Options>Access Point Names>Create a New and only one as per below;
NAME: T-Mobile Standard
APN: epc.tmobile.com
.
.
.
MMSC: http://mms.msg.eng.t-mobile.com/mms/wepenc
MMS PROXY: 216.155.165.50
MMS PORT: 8080
.
.
APN TYPE: default,*,mms
Check to make sure there is absolutely no spaces...Also, phone will take a bit to set in, but it is a good idea to do a reboot. There was another APN floating around, but MMS will be extremely slow, this is working for me real snappy.

New Straight Talk APN for BYOP - if data quits working

Update: Straight Talk's website now tells you the apn setting you should be using, to do this visit the link at the bottom of this post and follow the directions. The apn settings in this post should be the settings all new users are assigned, checking the link would tell you for sure though.
Just a heads up, if you're using Straight Talk's BYOP sim card and your data quit working, you may have been transitioned to new apn settings. I read about it here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2310215 in the Nexus 4 forums.
It seems users there lost all mobile data connectivity after their service renewed. The new apn settings seemed to have restored their data connectivity. I suggest making a second apn setting on your phone with the new settings I've posted below. The reason why I suggest a second apn is so you can easily switch between apns if you lose data connectivity on the new apn, I see it as an easy troubleshooting step down the road.
Here is the new apn
Name: Straight Talk
APN: tfdata
Port: 80
MMSC: http://mms-tf.net
MMS Proxy: mms3.tracfone.com
MMS Port: 80
Straight Talk now let's you type in your phone number on their website to look up which apn settings you should be using, it can be found here
http://www.straighttalk.com/wps/portal/home/support/apn#.UwhwZHVdX8s
I hope somebody finds this useful and hopefully doesn't cause confusion.

Probably because you need the new LTE sim card from ST, which only recently came out; that is if your hardware supports it, as creepy stated.

From what I've gathered, there are two different At&t apn settings for straight talk's byop sim card, either att.mvno or tfdata. I use to be on att.mvno for my apn, but when I changed to their lte sim card, my apn settings became tfdata.
I'm not sure cdma phones have programmable apn settings.

I have had problems sending mms on the i777 on non-stock based roms such as cm. I had better luck getting mms to go if I disconnected from wifi and waiting for the phone to establish a data connection before sending the mms. I never had much luck with toggling airplane mode on and off to get an mms to go. If it didn't go the first time, I'd just forward the mms I was trying to send to the same person that I was trying to originally send it to, normally the forwarded one went. I decided to forward it to them because it took less time than making a new mms message all over again. hope that helps.
In the mms proxy field put
66.209.11.33 Instead or try 66.209.11.34

No new sim for LTE

Probably because you need the new LTE sim card from ST, which only recently came out; that is if your hardware supports it, as creepy stated.
And please be aware that this is the i777 forum.

That is not true, On New LTE card. I have a older SIm card I purchased 6 months ago. I get LTE with that card and never had to buy the new "LTE" Sim.

You may get faster speeds, but you're not getting true LTE, because our device simply doesn't have the necessary hardware.
But I'm glad you're getting better speed, I agree with trevor, please share your setup!

The new APN settings can also be viewed on Straight Talk's website here:
http://straighttalksim.com/support-data.php#
I hope somebody finds this useful and hopefully doesn't cause confusion.

I am activating Straight Talk bringing my i777 S2 from ATT. They told me to use the same settings as you've listed above. How long did your activation take? I got them on the phone at 11am and it is now 8pm. I'm still waiting - Is that normal?
Thanks
Pete

Well it depends, are you porting your number or are you getting a new number from them? When I activated my straight talk sim card, I got a new number and was up in running in minutes, if not instantly.
