After flashing Jokers CM9 ICS Rom problems - Motorola Photon 4G

As the title states I flashed the latest CM9 ICS rom from Joker and It started off working fine after getting the radio to finally work but now it randomly turns off and i won't be able to turn it back on unless i do a battery pull and also the phone tends to overheat way too much. I didn't flash anything other then the Gapps and the rom itself.

It's overclocked by default. So that's probably heating it up. I recommend lowering it to 1ghz or lower. As for the radio... it's turning off? Or data? Just curious.

i'm not to sure how exactly to do that but i'll do some searching. and at first the radio just wasn't picking up a provider but then i flashed the 0.3.1 or w.e it was first and now that is working. the only issue now is that it will reboot randomly and thats the biggest problem for me. I thought it had something to do with the overheating?

Its a beautiful rom, however I had to switch to miui because I started getting an error "the process android.phone.com has stopped unexpectedly" and I would lose all service. I couldn't take it anymore.

If either of you get that error with no service all you have to do is flash a previous version such as 0.3.0. Reboot into the OS. Go back to the recovery and update to the latest. Do not wipe anything when updating! It's an easy fix and all will work afterwards. Flash them twice if necessary.

@Mr white I love this rom which is why I want it to stop rebooting randomly just do what @na7q said and it should work I'm just curious if it's the overclocking and over heating that's causing it to reboot?

Now it seems like it shuts down when I have wifi connected after some time. Any suggestions?

EDIT: also it only shuts down whenever the phone is sleeping never when i'm actually using it

I am having the same issue. But strangely it only seems to happen when I am outside. The first time I noticed it was when I went fishing. My phone had about 80% charge, and when I picked it up maybe 30 mins later is was scorching hot. To the point that it burnt me. And it had shut off. I didn't have it in the sun or anything. It was in the shade inside a bag. I was not able to get it to turn on even with a battery pull even after it had cooled down. The battery completely drained in a matter of minutes. I couldn't even get it to charge in the truck on the car charger, either. It got too hot on the charger to the point it wouldn't even get a charge. This has happened about 3 or 4 times since. It will go from a full battery, get super hot, and completely drain within minutes. This never used to happen in the house, it was only an issue outside. until today. Went fishing, phone had full charge. It managed to hold the battery for a couple hours, unlike the other times, but eventually got hot and died. Then when I got home, plugged it into the charger and went to sleep, woke up a couple hours later and it was burning hot, and had no charge. Other things on it are acting weird now, as well. The screen keeps turning on and off every few seconds by itself. I don't know what the issue is, but I might have to switch back to stock if I can't find a solution. Because eventually this is going to fry my phone. And I don't want that to happen. It is also a huge inconvenience for your phone battery to drain in a matter of minutes and become a useless paperweight when you are in the middle of nowhere and need a form of communication in an emergency.

Phone powers down or restarts on its own.

i swear i have the worst luck. haven't even had the phone a day and already i went to check the time and the phone was off and wouldn't turn back on, had to pull the battery. now just a few min ago i felt a vibration in my pocket so i took the phone out and it was starting back up "starting services". it must have rebooted in my pocket.
if i go back into the sprint store for this they are not going to be happy to see me again after all the strings they pulled to get me into this phone after being well out of my 30 days with my 3d.
Edit: i just went to sprint and they tested the battery and said it was bad. maybe that's why it was charging so slow? hooked up to the charger the phone died while using it. that seems way too slow right?
Edit again. The new battery didn't fix my problem.
Ask for a new back cover. There have been numerous post about how some back covers are not a tight enough fit allowing the battery to break contact which results in a reboot. Sprint appears to be aware of this as there are reports of stores having spare back covers to give to people who request them.
mine had the updated cover with the rubber/foam inside. the phone was faulty, they replaced it and it looks like the problem is solved.
last night when i got the phone and i put it on the charger i started using it and it sucked the 15% of battery out when on the charger. i started charing at 7pm and by 2 am it was only at 50%. pretty sure some thing was wrong with the phone. this new one charged up in about an hour.
Mine does the same at random times of the day.... went to sprint and they told me it was a software bug... that sound right to you guys?

I've had my phone reboot first thing in the morning when I first turn it on. When it happens, it reboots twice and then no problem thereafter. It's done this three mornings so far, rebooting twice each time. It's happened both before and after rooting. I wonder if it has to do with being fully charged and reboots until its no longer fully charged. Luckily it's not every morning and it's easy to live with until the update is released. I know we have the leak, but I'm waiting for the official update.

ok cool ill look to replace mine then.
I had the same issue with reboots when I first started it up after it activated it would restart few times. Then today I had 60% battery life left and I powered off the phone and started it up again it said I had 3% battery left. Not sure whats going on. Also I am having bluetooth headset issues. My top of the line motorola finiti constantly loses connection and has to regain it. I have also experienced the call audio issues on several occasions. Unfortunately for me I was given this phone by Sprint and can't return it for another device. My only recourse is to wait till Motorola comes out with a firmware update.

Sudden shutdown and Sudden battery drain

Hi all, I have a very serious problem here. Please help me out.
Whenever I am using my phone for more than around 10-15 mins continuously, even though battery is around 80-85%, I lose network all of a sudden, the phone flickers or flashes or blinks for a moment and shuts down all of a sudden. When I try to boot it again, it says battery low and many times, it wont boot only. When it is about to be botted only it gets turned off. the solution is to connect to charger when it shuts down. At first, on connecting, it shows zero battery, and immediately battery level will be restored to the previous level, after blinking again in the charging screen and then only I can turn it on. What is the issue?
I also tried wiping data/factory reset.. Wipe cache and dalvik wipes repeatedly. Tried many roms like resurrection 2.6, 3.01, XWLPM stock rom, Salman ROM, etc. The same issue happens in all the roms as well.
Somebody do reply!

well do one thing- try flashing another kernel too- anything will do - siyah maybe. 1% chance of it working..
and if it doesn't, what this means is that it is most probably a hardware issue- and you would need to get your phone checked in the service center.
Have you tried a different battery?

Maybe battery failure! try with a different battery if no change and everything was like before then I suggest you to send it to customer service as soon as possible.
Same thing for Stock
I experienced the same thing on Stock samsung unrooted rom 4.0.3
I suddenly found that my phone is not responding and is heated up too much, I quickly removed the battery and after letting it to cool off restarted it.
Was amazed to see battery came down to 20% from 80%, Post this incident it is working fine
Now I have tried multiple kernels and Roms and it still is working awesomely on everything I throw at it

Turns out its some battery problem. I swapped mine with a friend's battery. He is facing the same issues now and I am not facing any issue. In ebay and flipkart, it shows original battery costs just 559 Rs(around 10$). Is the original battery available for such a cheap price? Or is it not genuine?
It sounds suspiciously cheap.. mmmmm. You should try going for the legit 2000mAh from samsung longer battery life haha so much win

Hi yashwanthms,
Just to let you know, currently I'm facing exactly the same issue.
During or after using camera, gps or usage of data, the screen flickers and then after a few seconds it freezes and shuts down. Switching it on doesn't work, because it thinks the battery is dead while still having 50% left or something like that. It does however work when it is plugged into power.
Thanks for your reply of your battery replacement. I will try the same thing and see if it works out.
Still a question though: did you buy a new battery and what were your results afterwards?
Kind Regards,
Ahsimmis
same issue here
After reading above posts, I'm sure it is a battery issue. I use hotspot and GPS a lot which is why I've to charge a lot and charge while docked to car cigarette lighter too, no wonder the battery didn't last more than a year. Will buy a new battery tomorrow and post the result here.

Like others said, I think it's battery problem. Do not use cheap unreliable batteries, nor leave your phone charging after 100% charged for a long time. This would affect your battery performance. Experienced that using my back-up battery, from 25%, sudden shutdown. My original battery would alert me first "Battery is now low, please recharge now". The back-up won't.
This is to confirm that I've purchased a new battery from Samsung franchise store. It is doing fine.
Cost me Rs.800 which is like $18. The store didn't have any retail battery in stock but they provided me one from one of the phones on display. I'm not sure if I did the right thing by taking it but I needed one badly and none of the stores I went to had any in stock for retail (there are like 15 of them in a 2km radius)
This is happening to both mine and my wife's Galaxy S II's. Screen flickers, shuts down, comes back with zero battery, plug it in to charge for a few minutes, suddenly back to ~80%. I've also found the phone is hot when this happens, pulled the battery and its NOT the battery that is hot, the phone itself is (feels hottest right below the camera, just above the battery port).
I ordered a replacement battery for her and it cleared the issue for about 2 weeks but now its happening again. The replacement was a genuine Samsung OEM, same maH, same part number.
My phone is rooted with a custom ICS kernel, her's is factory ICS.
I've ordered a new battery for my phone too to try, but I'm not convinced its solely a battery issue.

I have the same problem, change the battery with new one but still it happens & I am afraid it may be hardware!
Phone is not root & running official rom 4.0.4
I have changed battery and now it works ok. But yesterday, the phone freezed and became very hot. I rebooted it and then the battery level decreased high. After that it works ok again.
same problem
hi there,
I am having the same problem as on the OP. Have already ordered a new battery, because my warranty expired on sep 15th and I was on holidays outside my city and without the invoice
do you have any feedback about changing the battery?
thanks.

Phone shutting off and random battery %s on reboot

For a couple weeks now, ever since I had to fix my Music player not showing my files, my phone has had this weird habit:
It'll be plugged in. All the time. Pretty much 24/7. But as soon as I take it off the charger - give or take a few minutes - it will turn off. No warning. No nothing. To turn the phone back on, it has to be charging. When I turn it back on, the battery % will be anywhere between 0% and 100%.
I have no idea what's going on, and it's making it impossible to use the phone off the charger without the battery charger pack. And that lasts what - an hour at best?
I thought it might be the ROM I had installed, and I was going to revert to the stock ROM today, but I instead upgraded from 2.3.7 LiquidSmooth to LiquidSmooth's new ICS ROM. I thought it would work, but after setting everything up and letting go of the charger, it died again in a couple minutes. The difference this time was that it showed the htc screen, but then went black and nothing. With the old rom, it just went black and done.
I apologize if there's another thread on this, but I haven't been able to find anything online in the past week or three.
Thanks in advance.
Mine has been doin the same thing. Sometimes being difficult to turn back on. Totally stock phone. I think mostly when plugged in. I will try to keep track.

So far today it has shut down 3 times. Once while plugged in and twice not. All 3 times sent the batt from 3/4 charge to under 5% when I fired the phone up. I am usingthe stock batt but am going to maybe wedge somethingbetween the batt and the cover to see if it wil do anything. I dont want to do a full reset.....i may be switching to the galixy 3. But rumers of a 4 in beginning of 2013 may have me holding off.

Yeah sounds like the battery has given up the ghost.
My phone has been doing this as well. This is the stock battery from March 2010. This only happens when Im not on WiFi. Also this only started after I flashed from the ICS leak to another ROM. I think its strange, but I ordered a new battery to be sure.

[Q] HTC Thunderbolt Bricked, Won't Charge Or Turn On

as you read in the topic title. My HTC thunderbolt is dead. nothing. no yellow / green light at all. This has happened before..but a simple battery pull for about 20 minutes and a restart got me going again. Now...it won't work. I'm not a noob where I flashed the wrong radio or something stupid like that. I had fully functioning Thunderbolt with LiquidSmooth ICS JMOD MR2. Before my phone decided to commit permanent suicide, it was rebooting to the boot screen every hour or so to the LiquidSmooth boot animation while I was using PowerAmp. Then I shut if off normally (just like last time..) and now it won't charge turn on, or do ANYTHING. It won't even go to the HTC logo where I can go to clockwork or the hBOOT menu. I'm running out of options. If anyone could give me advice. That would be great, as I cannot afford another one :___;

Flashing the radio is the only thing u can flash and completely brick your phone with no fix if you flash wrong or the radio is for a different device then I think your just gonna have to move on to a different phone.

This is exactly what I didn't do. I was just stating that because I bet some users on here flash the wrong radio or unplug it during flashing and cry on here later for a solution. This is what I did not do.
With that said...is there any possible solution for my dilemma?

I had 4.0 LiquidSmooth ICS JMOD my custom ROM on my phone ever since the rom first came out.and it was perfectly...fine...
and this same problem happened when I had GB ThunderShed CM7..but my gf told me to pull the battery out and leave it out for 20 minutes..then it put it back in. It worked. She did this many times with her Droid 1. Since it was problematic with this issue. (first android phone OF COURSE its going to have problems) Now she's an iPhone user i'm constantly trying to convert back lol
anyway...as stated before..it's now done it again and this time it's totally dead. my phone was trying to tell me something I bet.
How old is your phone?
Nothing to do with radios or ROMs. A bricked phone will still receive a charge. You need to try a different battery ( preferrably 1 that is charged and for the Thunderbolt) once you get it booted into whatever ROM you're using, go to menu, settings, power and make sure that "fastboot" isn't checked. By default fast boot is checked by HTC and by most ROMs. What fastboot does is just put your phone into "hibernate" much like a PC does.
So when you turn your phone off, it appears that its off, but its really just sleeping. If the battery dies and fastboot is checked, the phone is hella confused about its current state. HTC did this by default for a better customer experience, but its kinda dumb and bad in the long run as your phone never gets a freaking break. Lol
Thats why I'm suggesting getting a good battery to boot up to a ROM or whatever, turn off fastboot, properly turn off the phone then charge your battery. It may take up to 10+ min before you to get an orange light that'll flash then eventually go solid. Let it go solid for about 20+ min to be on the safe side, then boot
Good luck man

Man I bought one off craigslist that did the exact same thing. Had it about a week. Started random reboots so I was restoring a backup. While trying that recovery randomly rebooted a couple times them finally restore finished. It bootlooped so I pulled the battery and that was the last time it did anything. PC won't see it, won't get a charge light. Put a fully charged battery from my other tbolt in it. Still nothing. It literally died in my hands. I guess a hardware failure was the cause. Also picked up the wireless charging battery cover to try my power mat to see if that would at least make the charging light come on ....nope

Doubt that'll work if its the same as mine. PC and adb won't see it. And I used known good batteries and charger from my other bolt.just gonna hold on to it in case I find one with a busted screen for cheap on craigslist
Well I've searched the net and this has happened to several people that weren't even rooted or on a custom Rom. To me it seems like the motherboard(or the phones equivalent) is fried....that would explain why it happens on many thunderbolts(but it could just be a simple fix that I don't know of)

Try a different battery maybe. It might be dead. Your USB port could have gone bad too.

Good luck man

this phone does not. I had two batteries with a decent charge and they didn't charge on it. The ROM I was using was a AOSP rom. not sense based...so there was no power menu and a fastboot option to uncheck

Also picked up the wireless charging battery cover to try my power mat to see if that would at least make the charging light come on ....nope

yep. it did die in my hands. I'm chalking this up to hardware failure as well...

You should try this, heck order a battery and wall charger off of Amazon for about $15.... Put the battery in and use ADB to put your phone into recovery....

Yep. the Motherboard is fried. has to be.
Thank you so much everyone for your advice, concern and help..but nothing can fix or repair hardware failure to this extent
I got a used HTC Rezound. It's amazing...it's everything the T-Bolt should have been
even though I had this problem before and a long term battery pull fixed it...Looks like Lightning Will Not Strike Twice for The Thunderbolt.
Thank you for your concern and support....but it's just as good as a future spare parts phone on craigslist.

[Q] Phone randomly turns on and off after mod

Hello all. So here is my situation.
Motorola Milestone X2
Last night I successfully rooted the phone and installed CMOD 10 using these directions
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2101633
Everything went fine. Charged the phone overnight, went for a jog this morning running both Pandora and c25k app. Absolutely no issues.
So I get to work and the phone just shuts off. Will not power back on or into fastboot. When plugged into USB, green light comes on.
After several minutes it will randomly power back on. Then after using it for a few minutes, it will just shut off again. Powering on and shutting down seems to happen randomly.
Any suggestions? Thanks in advance

Quick update. It is draining the battery. The next time it booted up I watched carefully, and the red light in the corner was flashing and it said 5% battery, even though it had a full charge just a couple of hours ago. Something must be draining it badly if it will not even run very long while plugged in. Again, any fix for this would be greatly appreciated.

SBF back to stock and see if it still does the random power downs. If it still does than I'm sorry to say but its your phone

Is there a reason to think that flashing to CMOD 10 actually broke the hardware? I have never had battery issues before. SBFing back I am sure would resolve the issue but then what?
And I am not talking "I used to get 12 hours, now I get 10" I am talking "I used to get 12 hours, now I get 12 minutes."
Even when plugged in, if I use it very much, it will die. Surely this is an issue of the phone incorrectly reporting the battery levels. I ran the battery calibration app (not at 100% charge since I cannot seem to get it that high) and it seemed to have no effect.
When I try to have the OS boot into recovery to try clearing the battery data, I just get an icon that look like the little android guy standing in front of a caution sign.

cyanogen 10 has issues on our phone. plain and simple. also check the battery stats and see whats running. i had an issue once with facebook running 99% of the time consuming way too many resources. id sbf and try again from stock. if theres still issues try running cm9 it runs nicely and its my daily driver.

cm9 is a bit better in quite a few aspects. i would try it over cm10. for battery life alone. i have stayed on it the longest now, surpassing eclipse, which used to be my favorite. :good:

battery life on cm10 is absolutely horrible. it will never be anything close to stock, and you will be lucky if you can get it to last you a whole day. even when working properly.

Not necessarily, I've gone two days with 3g radio on but with minimal use on cm10 it really just depends on the hardware variations. Just like how two phones of the same model over clock differently because of minor flaws and variations durring manufacturing.

So I was finally able to get it to charge to 100% and then used the battery calibration app.
I could not tell immediately if that did anything, but it seems to be holding its charge today. Guess we will see how it does over the next couple of days.
Thanks!
