Recommendation For a Case: What Do You Use - Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime

Hey guys, I have been looking for a case for my prime for around two weeks, I want the case to be thin and not add too much bulk to the tablet.
I really like the Poetic Hardback case because it's thin and doesn't cover up the bezel, but I've read that the clips could scratch the tablet itself.
If you have a case idea for me I would greatly appreciate the recommendations.
Thanks,

This question has been asked a million times, but personally I like the Sikai Microfiber Case. It is super thin, light, comfortable to hold and looks professional.

Some people don't like that it has material over the bezel, and at first I was skeptical however it really does make your grip more secure on the Prime compared to bare glass. And while the edges might look sharp they are actually very soft.

I concur on the Sikai Microfiber Case. Very thin and light (only 5.5 ounces), yet protects the case and screen well. I don't particularly care for leather cases, and the microfiber is smooth yet provides good grip.
I also have the Poetic, and have not noticed it scratching the tablet, although it is a bit of a tight fit into sliding it under the clips. One complaint about the Poetic is that after a while the leather loosened up, so that when you placed it in the angled position the tablet slipped out of the grooves in the stand (very annoying). Poetic weighs in at 9.5 ounces.
The Caseen Skinny case is worth considering if you like a leather case. Weighs in at 10 ounces, and provides very good protection and allows landscape or portrait angled stand. One complaint is that the stylus / pen strap is too tight, and difficult to get the stylus in.

I have used the ACASE since early January and love it. It is leather, fitted well and looks great. I believe I paid about $13 for it on ebay.

I just got the Sikai microfiber and I love it.

I also have the Sikai microfiber case and prefer it over my other case. It is light, fits well, looks good and functions the way I want it,

I use a not so fancy Roocase. It is both a leather skin for the tablet and allows for it to be propped up, like an easel. The dual function aspect adds some thickness but personally, I don't find it an issue.

Do they have any other colors of that sikai case? Yours looks a little amethyst grayish but all I could find was black. Also does anyone not from china sell this thing? I'm trying to get it a little faster than 20 business days hahaha

As far as I know it only comes in one colour. The black which is kind of greyish.
I can't help you with an alternate seller. I had to wait awhile for my case to arrive, but it was worth the wait.

As far as I know it only comes in matte black.
Also, I don't remember mine taking 20 business days to show up. It was closer to 2 weeks.
A reseller has them on Amazon, and it says that they ship from California, so it might be a little faster.

Can the little stylus holder on the back come off?

Not easily, as the little stylus holder is sewn into the lip of the case and then heat-sealed over. I guess you could cut it off with sharp scissors or a knife however why would you want to do that? It is actually quite handy if you ever use a stylus and when there is no stylus there is isn't noticeable since it lays flat against the edge of the case.

Yes, but the magnets don't shut the Prime off they just hold the cover in place.

yes I know as I have had 2 ipads and know the tech behind how it works. Also currently have a leather case for the prime now with the magnets.
Thanks for the answer back. I'm probably going to buy this today.

The Prime actually does have a magnetic switch that can turn the Prime off by passing a magnet over it. It is just to the right of the camera, and down about an inch, behind the screen. However this magnetic switch is only enabled when the Prime is docked with its keyboard.
I have been using this case for about a month and a half now, and it provides great protection for the Prime, looks modern and stylish and feels comfortable to hold. Honestly I am not sure what else you would want from a case

just got the Sikai Microfiber Case in the mail today. I like it. It is certainly nice. But what I am not too excited over is the way that the prime is upside down when you use the case as a stand...Not crazy about that..But otherwise, is very nice..

Bought one of these too. Been looking for a nice case for six months now. Very happy with this.

Yeah I did think the was a bot odd at first, but it makes sense now. The only thing upside down really is the volume rocker. I never use it in this arrangement anyway.
If I want it stood up for watching videos etc, I stand it up the other way round, it like this -
(excuse the ipad photo and wrong case, but you get my point)

I got one of those leather thin cases, they are ok, but I just didn't like the feel of it, and the Prime just did not feel as awesome as using it naked.
So I ended up getting a Full Body Skinomi (Tablet + Dock) and the Asus Transleve and ohboy I'm happy with it.
The Skinomi is freaking awesome, the Tablet looks like just waxed Porsche, and the Asus Transleeve works wonders.
Been using this setup for some time now and I doubt ill use again my leather case ^^

I have a full body Skinomi skin on my Prime as well:
Sadly the Skinomi skin doesn't make the Prime more comfortable to hold, the sharp edges of the Prime still dig into your hands when you hold it for a while. Also the Skinomi skin, while excellent protection from scratches doesn't protect against drops at all.

EEE Pad Roocase Mulit-angle Case Review
Hi All,
I thought that I would post a review of this case since I haven't seen one yet. I'm going to follow a bit of jms_uk's review of the FolioGuard, just to keep some congruency amongst our forum.

Introduction:
I upgraded to the Transformer from a Nook Color (great tablet, but the screen was too small for me), and was looking for a multi-angle case. I first saw the official case, but I thought it was hideous with the edges, and was overpriced. So I waited out for a decent case to come along, and when the Roocase came out, I pretty much went for it. It fit all my criteria (I don't have a keyboard so I wasn't worried about its ability to dock while in the case).
Initial Impressions:
The case is very large and quite thick due to all the folds required by its design. The leather has a really nice and solid feel to it. It's not very soft or supple, but it feels just like the leather that's used in the seats of a BMW, sturdy and durable. All the edges are wrapped nicely and securely, and the retention flap is on the bottom, so your Transformer won't fall out when you're carrying it. All in all, it's very high quality and very well designed.
Design:
The quality and craftsmanship is extremely good. It's made from real leather (you can smell and feel it). All the cut edges have been properly sealed, and thus won't fray or wear down easily. There is a nice texture to the leather and it feels smooth and durable. It feels like a nice portfolio in your hands. The black cloth material is very soft and smooth, and won't pick up dust. I got some cracker crumbs on it and it was easier to clean off than microfiber. The magnets on the cover are weak, but does the job. I would have preferred stronger magnets, but I can't complain for $30.
The fit for Transformer is just right, and it slides smoothly in. The velcro in the flap secures the Transformer in with no worries about it falling out and is quite strong. Once secured, the Transformer is happily strapped in, and it doesn't wiggle in place. There are cutouts for all the ports, cameras and light sensor and it doesn't interfere with their operations. I took a few pictures and the camera is free from obstructions. The velcro fastening flap is very secure so you don't have to worry about your Transformer falling out.
There's velcro on the bottom edge of the case where the bottom of the transformer would be. These are for holding the viewing angle, and preventing the cover from unfolding. They work really well and makes the tilting mode very solid as you work, you can pick it up and it will hold your angle with no issues.
In Use:
I like holding my Transformer while I work/play, and this case has some issues in that area. First off, the materials and leather are slippery. I usually hold my Transformer in my left hand, with the power button at the top in portrait mode. When the cover is folded back, you have to hold onto the soft material. The issues I found here, is that the material is not very grippy (less than the Transformer's textured back) even with the bigger grip (due to the fold), it was harder to hold. I had a case for my Nook Color that had microfiber which really helped in the grip department, and I miss that. But that's the disadvantage of having velcro to hold the angle.
The only way I can grip the Transformer well is when I hold it where the camera is. It's really nice to hold this way, but you're going to block the light sensor. I don't use the light sensor, so this isn't a big issue for me. The case adds quite a bit of heft to the tablet, and its noticeable so if you're looking for a light case, this is not one you should look for. My weight scale is off, but it's definitely around the 200g mark, which is almost a third of the Transformers weight. I held it for a bit with one hand for 30 minutes and my wrist was getting sore. So you'll need to hold it with two hands. But if you usually rest the Transformer while you use it (like me), this isn't a big issue either. The quality of the case far outweigh the mass of the case.
The charge port is covered up by the fold when you close the case, so you can't charge while the case is closed, but all other ports are easily accessible when the cover is closed.
The multi-angle capabilities are great and it is solid with the velcro holding it together. There is a "slight" angle when it's folded back, and It helps for typing. I thought it was great till I saw the ACase, which has a re-enforcement in the spine that gives you a greater typing angle.
When at it's steepest angle, you can have the connector with no stress on the cord!
Verdict:
This is a good case, with extremely high craftsmanship, and attention to detail. The Quality is amazing, and it really keeps the Transformer safe but I can't really call it a Great case as it needs some design improvements.
It's a really nice case with just one annoying flaw that is enough to disappoint me. The offender is just the lack of grip when holding the tablet. Both the leather and the fabric are slippery, and so extra care is needed to grip it. The fabric is extra slippery which makes the Transformer hard to hold with the cover folded back when you hold it on the fabric. The grippiest way to hold is with your hand on the camera. When you do, it's acceptable. I personally think they spray some sort of protectant on the leather that gets on the fabric, which makes it slippery almost like a silicone protectant which is slippery. I'll try to apply some leather cleaner to see if that will help with the grip issues that I'm having.
I think I'm just nit picking as it just takes some getting used to, or more handling to rub off the protectant.
[Update]
I've now owned this case longer than 24 hours, and I've used some leather cleaner and it's improved the grip a bit more. I'm still not a fan of holding it along the spine, so I'm just trying to get used to holding it by the edge.
Pros:
- Real leather
- Very nice and sleek
- Well crafted
- Nice covers to protect the Transformer
- Awesome quality materials used.
- All ports align with the cameras and light sensors with no interference
- $30!! (after shipping)
- Magnets for holding the cover down
- Velcro for holding the stand!
- The leather
- Great for two handed gaming if you're using the stand
Cons:
- Slippery coating on the leather
- Slippery fabric when folded back
- Flexible Spine prevents it from being solid when held
- Fairly bulky (This is the tradeoff for great protection and cushioning)
**Some Other Thoughts**
At first I was really put off by its huge size and extra weight, but now that I've had it for longer, It's grown on me a bit. I did see the ACase infinite angle folio case, and for a bit I regretted making the Roocase purchase, because the ACase has the grippy fabric and the shaped spine. However, I found out that it does not have velcro for the flap (I think the grippy material makes up for it because the reviewer was struggling to put it in when I saw the video), and the other is that there's nothing to prevent the front cover from completely folding out. The Roocase has velcro that helps keep it together. So those two things make the purchase go down easier.
Thanks for this! I've been planning on buying this to replace my FolioCase.
By ACase, I assume you mean this? http://www.amazon.com/Acase-Leather...3?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1310612255&sr=1-3
This looks nice too. I may purchase this aswell
I'm glad the review helped. The case you linked to is the ACase I referred to. There's a small overview on youtube on it that you can check out if you wanted more information.
also have this case and love it!
Hey i just received this case also ( and also put up a review ...but yours is better)
I agree with almost all the points but do you wish there was also a magnet on the flap so when you have the tablet open you don't need to worry about the flap falling down ?
xun3 and dark lord when did you order the case via Amazon?
I am also in Canada and ordered the Case crown case on Jun 15th that was supposedly shipped Jun 27th but still no delivery. I am going to ask for a credit back and may get the Roo case instead.
How come you guys got your delivery without being affected by the Canada Post strike?
How did they ship your cases, was it thru UPS International Mail?
Sorry for the long questions but my CC case is in limbo.
thanks
Had mine for a cpuple of days and lovin it. Very well made.

I like the case as well. I just wish there was a way to dock the tablet without the hassle of pulling it from the case. Otherwise, a great purchase.

Orderd it from amazon about a month ago and i believe it came via UPS and yeah if you do plan on getting the roocase they are like 50% off till the end of the week when they become "Available"
Hi AstroTrain,
I have a friend who works in the USA, so I just send it to them, and they bring it back for me (I live in Windsor, so it's convenient). If you do order, use the United States Postal Service (USPS), that's if it is an option. You'll avoid having to pay custom fees. UPS is a nightmare if you ship across the border.
Hi Dark Lord Me,
I totally agree that something like a magnet would be beneficial to the design. I'd love to add a magnet, but I'm not a seamstress. I was thinking of modifying my case by adding some sort of an elastic strap to hold the front cover in place. We'll see if I can find anything like that in fabric land.
I received mine on Monday and am very impressed with it, especially considering the price. Quality build and fit.
Excellent review. Thank you for posting. I gave you a thanks to your OP.
I have this case and mine has magnets in the front cover. I am very happy with this portfolio case. I do wish that you could charge it with the cover closed.

Sure, but it might look kind of goofy. You'd also need to bind the edges of the cut with some material to prevent the inside liner from separating from the leather.
I'd really like some way to dock the tab with a case still attached, but I guess that could be really awkward.
I got this case about 2 weeks ago and it's been awesome. I love the quality of the leather and the case is great. It's adds a good sense of weight and stuff to the tablet. Makes me less nervous about handling it not as carefully.
Got mine yesterday. So far very good, just maybe too heavy. But very sturdy and well built. I added velco strips to the inside leather lip in order to get a lower tilt, for when I'm on the couch. Next mod will be to melt a hole with a soldering iron to access the power when closed.
Amazon price went up a bit I noticed....still under-priced for what you get.
Nice work Roocase.

I had it for a week and like very much. I don't have the keyboard, so that's not an issue for me. Great workmanship and materials. I wish it was a little lighter, though, but perhaps it would make it flimsier.
When reading a book in portrait mode, I first set it for landscape viewing and then turn it on its side. I find this arrangement quite satisfactory.
Great review, thanks.
In the market for a case for my TF and will probaly get this case.
Had it a month now and am convinced one is needed.
Being using an old netbook case since but still think an actual cover is needed.

Skinomi & Dock, Tight Fit?

So I bought the Skinomi Carbon Fiber skin and it applied nicely. Today I got my dock in the mail and it's a pretty tight fit. I was wondering if it's a tight fit in general or is it just because I have the Skinomi Skin applied.
Anyone else have the Skinomi Skin and the dock?

That looks good! Is that the "regular" black Carbon Fiber skin, or the Silver Carbon Fiber skin?
I've had a black Skinomi carbon fiber skin on a Viewsonic gTablet, and it has held up quite well over 8 months, so I'm considering getting this for the slick Transformer Prime.

i believe it is the regular black one. i didn't know they had a silver i would have jumped on that. i ordered mines from amazon as i used an amazon gift card to purchase the whole set which included the front clear protection.
i'm very surprised at how well it fits and feels. now i don't worry about it slipping out of my hands since it's rough and textured enough for gripping such a slim device that much easier to hold.
i am just worried about how it would fit with the keyboard dock per OP's concerns. amazon just emailed me and noted that my dock should get here by next wednesday. i would hate to take off such a nice guard if fitment doesn't hold up well with the dock.

Good to hear the carbon fiber skin helps with gripping the Prime.
After you get the dock, let us know how it fits and works with the dock. I notice there are thin strips of foam material on the inside of the dock hinge where the tablet is inserted, so hopefully inserting the dock will not scratch or catch on the carbon fiber skin.
I installed the skinomi full body yesterday and also have the keyboard dock. The tablet fits into the dock fine; however, I there are marks left on the skin due to contact with the dock. Ultimately, the rub marks don't bother me----the skin is very smooth and nice to touch. Just waiting for skinomi to make a skin for the keyboard...
Turns out for me, the problem was with the Skinomi screen protector. I noticed there were marks on the screen protector where it looked like it was catching. I pulled off the screen protector and it seems to fit better now. Sorry, I already yanked it off so I don't have pictures.
i have the clear skin and the dock and have not had any issues with it. it was a tight fit with or without the skin. I have had it in and out a couple times and have not had any problems.
hmmm...maybe it's just mine....or i'm just expecting a looser fit.
Does anyone else use the dock compatible skinomi and the dock? Just got mine today and I noticed that the locking mechanism does not slide all the way to the right when docked it just sits halfway...I noticed the cutouts on the skin don't seem to fully miss the edge of the dock..could this be why?
I have the full body skin - my tablet and dock are both covered front and back (but not the sides) with the clear skin.
I'm not sure where you mean that the cut outs on the skin don't miss the dock. The long curved like pieces at both sides of the bottom of the tablet? Mine seem fine. The tablet doesn't "hesitate" going in and it snaps in place just like before. I was gentle with it the first few times for fear of screwing up the skins if I didn't have it lined up right, but once I saw it seemed ok, I just went back after it with less worry now that I wont be scratching it by putting it on and off the dock!
I did however fail to pick up on the fact that it wasn't a real good idea to clam shell close the two of them together in the beginning - not real pretty trying to pull the two apart
thanks for the response, I just meant it looked like part of the cutout is slightly under the docking holder thing...does your lock mechanism click all the way to the right or is it just halfway like mine?
Sent from my Transformer Prime TF201 using xda premium
My switch was only going halfway the first few times i docked it.. Turns out, have to push harder.
I'm using the full back, and compatible screen.
Just try pushing it into the dock further to get the switch to click.
I have full carbon fiber skin, i applied it on both tablet and dock.
Now my tablet wont fit into dock, it just fit from one side, and lock just go to walf way... so i sent email to skinomi with pics and i got this reply:
Thank you for sending us pictures of the issue. I will be forwarding this message to our design team, so they can review and make any necessary changes. I hope you enjoy your replacement when it arrives and have a great day.

This was my experience as well.
I have the clear skin, full body. Knowing the only thing I could screw up was the skin (which they would replace because it shouldn't screw up), I just pushed harder.
I don't have any marks on the dock or skin from where they join, despite having to push the first few times. I see what you mean by it looking like the back skin might go under/further down the backside of the backplate and into the back of the dock, but it must not because I don't' have any marks there at all.

Samsung Book Case and Skinomi Skin (Warning: lots of pictures added!)

Hi everyone,
I purchased a Tab 7.7 last night from Craigslist for an unbelievable price so I've loaded up on accessories.
I ordered an OEM Samsung book style case from eBay since it was MUCH cheaper:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/23075711880...X:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649#ht_7496wt_1270
For now, I'm using the slip cover case I used with my Nook Color. It fits in there perfectly. Amazing that this thing is thinner, lighter, and yet somehow still almost the same size as the Nook Color.
I also ordered a Skinomi carbon fiber skin:
http://www.skinomi.com/sk9340-samsung-galaxy-tab-7-7-carbon-fiber-skin-protector.html
The screen protector is hardly noticeable and doesn't affect the image quality. That's why I decided to order another one for my Tab. I did want to try getting the Brando matte screen protector, but I didn't want to risk having issues with image quality/rainbow effect.
I'll take pictures and review both when they come in the mail. It might be awhile for the case since it's shipping from China, but the Skinomi skin should be here next week.
EDIT: Case came in today. Pictures below.
I've read and seen a video showing that the OEM case is a tight fit and doesn't really work well with body skins, so we'll see. I'm not going to but the carbon fiber pieces on until the case arrives. If the edge pieces are separate from the back, then I'll go ahead and put the back on.
That's it for now.
EDIT: Skinomi skin arrived yesterday. The skin is cured enough to use, but as usual will continue to improve over the next week.

Back
I cut off part of the corners in preparation for the case, but I still have the pieces if I wanted to attach them later. Normally the skin would go all the way down and wrap around the edge.
BOOK COVER
Packaging
Open w/out Tab
Closed w/out Tab
Bottom w/ Tab
It's a tight fit. The back skinomi skin peeled off in parts of the corners because it was such a tight fit! I didn't trim enough off.
Propped up angle 1
Propped up angle 2
Camera Cutout
It's a perfect fit!
Open flat
Open flap folded back
Open thickness compared to Nook Color
The book cover is a nice tight fit. Too tight if you have a skin of any kind on there, so either make sure you trim enough off or leave the skin off the back.
The material seems to be pretty nice so far. It's has a nice texture to it. It doesn't feel like cheap plastic. More like a blend of plastic can silicon/rubber. The fit an finish is mostly nice. The only complaint I have so far is the flap. The 3 magnets that are inside the flap aren't very strong so it barely holds the flap close and it doesn't close all that tight. I'm not sure how this compares to the case for the Tab 8.9/10.1 which are Samsung designs vs this KIRF case. It holds well enough.
Once the case is fully open, the flap folds all the way over and provides a nice grip on the left side if you're holding it in portrait mode. This makes the Tab a lot more comfortable to hold. It's still possible to lay the Tab flat if you just leave the flap hanging out.
There's a slot on the back of the case that allows the flap to fit into the slop to prop up the Tab. it's a nice angle but it's not adjustable and probably not solid enough to type on.
All in all, it's a pretty nice case. If the flap held closed more securely I'd say it's a near perfect case. As it is, I'd give this case an 8/10. It's a good value at less than $20.
I hope this was helpful for anyone considering this case.
the OEM case is not made by samsung right? this one has the typing angle and looks pretty good

Samsung does sell these officially. Here's one for the 8.9. The 7.7 doesn't have a good picture on their site:
http://www.samsung.com/us/mobile/galaxy-tab-accessories/EFC-1C9NBEGSTA
The one I got on eBay is either a knockoff or simply someone that is able to get them directly from the factory that makes them and sell them for cheap (very likely and hence OEM, original equipment manufacturer). After all, Samsung doesn't make the case themselves. They buy them from the Chinese just like everyone else.
It's hit or miss when getting stuff from these eBay stores, but I've had decent luck getting quality stuff.
I was definitely not ready to spend $50+ that Samsung wants for it.
To each their own, but there's no way that I would put a skin on the 7.7. It's just so nice as is with a regular cover.
I did have that same carbon fiber black Skinomi skin for my old Viewsonic gTab, and it was a definite improvement over the ugly back. But the 7.7 is so shiny...

The Samsung original book covers for the Tab 10.1 and Tab 8.9 are very similar, but the original one for the Tab 7.7 is a bit different.
The ones on eBay for the Tab 7.7 that look similar to the ones for the Tab 10.1/8.9 are knock-off's of the that original Samsung design.
I have one of these and despite not being up the quality of a Samsung original case, it's not too bad at all.
Updated OP with pics of the Skinomi skin installed.
i've also ordered the book flip case from your ebay link. cant wait!

Yea. Looking at video reviews for the Tab 10.1 case and the design of ours, it looks like the Tab 7.7 is simply too thin for this case design to function quite as well.
The thinness of the 7.7 doesn't leave enough room for the buttons. They're not necessarily covered, but there's not enough room to comfortably use them. The thinness also causes the rubber feet on the back to be poorly placed. The Tab 10.1 is thick enough so that the rubber feet is almost on the side of the case so that when you prop it up on it's side, the rubber keeps the case from sliding. The Tab 7.7 is too thin and the rubber feet end up being more towards the back of the case so it doesn't stop the case from sliding nearly as well if at all.
I can see why Samsung designed a different official case.
I still really like the case. After leaving the case on it's flap overnight, the flap is laying down a lot better.

ah that explains it. do you also notice that the tab is getting pretty hot while in the case? at least mine does, probably also because i keep playing a game which keeps the screen on for a pretty long time..
that is really good case cover compare to official one.

Yea. I notice that it does get a little warmer in the case. The metal back on the 7.7 basically functions as a heatsink. The case is probably trapping the heat that normally gets dissipated.
Got mine today here in Egypt directly from a Mobile Accessory shop , and it only cost around 25$, really this is a perfect fit for the 7.7
Thanks Maverick for this finding
Got the Skinomi skin, just put it on and it looks great I gave up on trying to put on the screen protector, i had a hard time trying to get the air bubbles out after 2 tries. Always had an issue with screen protectors on all my phones.
Using Galaxy Tab 7.7 P6800
How well do the magnets keep the flap closed? I'm debating between this case and the official book case without the magnetic flap. My thought is that if the magnet doesn't really keep it closed, might as well just get the case with no flap? Just want to hear thoughts from people who have this case. Thanks!
So, I bought and finally received the case that the OP posted pics of and must say I am very pleased with it. Far exceeded my expectations. Looks sleek and fits well. My only initial concern was with the magnets not holding in place, but they hold up enough to keep it from opening which is what I wanted.

Glad it worked out. Yes the magnets are just enough to hold the flap closed. I still like the case quite a bit. Definitely a keeper.

Which Ultra-Slim Case Has the Tallest Lip?

I'm looking for an ultra-slim case that has the tallest lip to protect the display. I'd like to add a Glas.t screen protector, but that adds to the screen's height.
The choices so far are the Rearth Ringke Slim, the Elago Slim, and the Incipio Feather. From what I've read, the Elago may be the best choice. Can anyone who's tried all of these weigh in?
I had the elago but returned it. It didn't have a lip. It also only had three corners protected because one is open for the intl radio.
Also, the top and bottom were 'open' and where I put my pinky finger to cradle the phone one handed hit the case funny.
I'm still carrying naked but ordered a cheap one off amazon
I'll get that Tuesday and report back
It seems like most of the tpu cases have a lip to protect the screen. What's the thinnest tpu case? I've seen the 0.2mm one on ebay, but it' does not have a lip.
Ringke SLIM
Has a small lip across the top and bottom of the case. Minimal bulk, with just enough lip to keep it off a flat surface. Coupled with the screen protector it comes with, it's good protection for laying it face down on most surfaces.
Elago OK!
Saw the earlier feedback, but for what it's worth... my Elago G4 slim has allowed my device to survive four (!) drops so far. I'm very pleased with it, and especially like the feel and "grip-ability" of the case.... which was NOT related to my drops (instead, these were due to my overly "friendly" DOG!... LOL).
From reading other posts, it seems that the Elago has a taller lip than the Incipio, but I haven't read or seen a direct comparison of the Elago and the Rearth. I have read that the Rearth is thinner/lighter than the Elago, but you can tell that the Elago's lip covers more surface area around the display (top & bottom vs both sides).

It does not have a lip what so ever, it snaps/clips to the "chrome" accent around the phone and leaves the plastic bezel surrounding the screen vulnerable and exposed.
EDIT: I also had to enlarge the top noise cancelling mic hole as it was cut slightly too much to the left and blocked it.

of course it doesn't. Oh well. Really like the note naked anyway. Been without a case for a couple days and I'm really getting used to the feel. Does it at least add some grip? Btw...love how At&t made sure to have a cut out for their logo on that screen protector!

Yes it adds a grainy grip, but it also feels slippery after using the phone with a gel TPU case. If that makes sense
I would have not really chosen that screen protector, but it came already installed on the phone. Never look a gift horse in the mouth
Just got the case(or lack there of). Really like how you can barely tell it's there. It offers no protection whatsoever, but I do like the feel. The fit is almost perfect(just a little off on the top). It also hides the rocker buttons from my wandering fingers, so that's nice. I'm hoping the grip gets better with time and not worse...we will see. At least it was only 3 bucks.

Yup. It actually works quite well appearance wise. The gloss actually provides some grip to it around the edges while the matte backing allows the phone to slip in and out of pockets seemlessly.

From pictures, it looks like this case is at least twice as thick as the Elago Slim or the the Rearth. You can zoom into the pictures on Amazon and look at the area around the camera lens on the back of the phone. It's not a perfect method, but it does help to show how much bulk a case is going to add.

Is Skinomi worth it for the Prime?

Like the title says. How well does it work with a stylus? How does it feel vs just the glass? I have my prime in the MiniSuit case, is it worth putting on the screen?
I have a Skinomi skin cover and I honestly think the best part may be how much better the Prime looks. It gives it this glossy "wet" look that you see on new cars that have just been freshly waxed and polished. That aside, I would still recommend it if you're looking to use the Prime outside of a cover. I've found that the metallic spun back can scratch rather easily so the screen cover helps protect against that, and it has a nice, semi-grippy feel when you hold it.
Techskin (Wet application) is great for the back. Again, a must if you use the tablet outside of a "proper" case, to prevent the metal from getting scratched.
The front.....definitely reduces clarity some. You may get some micro-bubbles or other artifacts while installing, but the warranty will allow you to get a replacement if you screw it up (I did the first time, ended up with a couple blotches of micro-bubbles).
The protector definitely provides some more resistance while sliding the finger, not quite as smooth as without.
I plan to use it for a while, but maybe 6-12 months down the road i'll remove it when it gets a little worn and go "au natural". A back cover and a neoprene sleeve for transport is all i need.
http://www.amazon.com/Neo-Cushion-Protective-Transformer-Android-Tablets/dp/B006C64C6E
Really nice sleeve, it could use a bit of velcro to keep the fold from crinkling up. Nice front pocket for carrying the charger, or wires.
I ordered and installed the Skinomi Techskin. It went on perfectly, no bubbles, lined up precisely...
Only problem was, there were smudge marks and blemishes all over the screen! I waited a week, hoping they'd go away, but they didn't.
I eventually contacted Skinomi, who were very accommodating, and sent out another Techskin right away.
2nd skin didn't go on as easily. I have several bubbles, but what's more irritating is there's a crease/bubble along the edge of the screen, that won't go away! I even saw it while applying the screen shield, lifted that corner back up, re-sprayed the included liquid, and squeegeed it smooth, but it is still there, and very noticeable.
What I like about the Skinomi is the precise cut-out for the dock. However, if it makes my screen look filthy, it isn't working for my needs (I mainly purchased a screen protector because all of the fingerprints that show up on the Prime's screen drive me nuts (yeah, yeah.. I know)
Anyways, I've now ordered the ACaseView screen protector.
Comes in a package of three, but what attracted me to it is that the manufacturer and customers all say how thin it is. Several reviews say that they have no problems using their dock with this screen protector on, that it's thin enough not to interfere.
It's also a dry apply screen protector, not that I care that much about how it's applied, I just don't want to see bubbles or smudges on my nearly brand new Transformer Prime!
If anyone's interested, I'd be happy to report back, after installing the ACaseView shield.
I got the skinomi as well for the prime and dock. I love it. I have used body guardz for two phones and ghost armor for my wifes iPad. Of them all I have found the Skinomi to be the most glass like out of the box. They will be the one I buy going forward for all my future gear.
I prefer the wet apply versus dry. It allows you to place the skin down and easily adjust got proper placement. With the dry apply you have to keep purling back up to adjust, leaving you open for dust and stretching. The bubbles do go away. Sometimes it may take a week, or longer. Hope that helps.

I really dont want my Primes Keyboard looking like that, and even less the back of the tablet!
And yes, that was made by sweat, I wear no watch, or anything on my wrists.
Anyone happen to know if the Skinomi for the screen can cover up light Scratches that are already on the screen?

great choice on the dock and tablet combo, I've had it for a few weeks and its been great (dark wood version)
im not sure about the covering scratches though since one of the main things the companies want to accomplish are having the protectors as invisible as possible as to not hinder the use of your screen so I'm assuming they would still show. I have a protector on my screen but i have no scratches since i wouldn't even take my dock or tab out of the box before my skins arrived lol I'm sort of a freak when it comes to scratching my "toys".

I just ordered it, I hope it makes them at least harder to see hehe.
Weird thing is, my Prime never goes out without the Leather Folio case or if I need the Dock in a Neopren pouch, I just have no freaking idea how the screen got scratched! I guess the Glass used in the Prime is not so hard after all (at least compared to my other devices... 100% naked, no scratchs, more than a year of use and abuse)
Will report back how it feels after I get it... I guess a couple weeks from now

Not it is not worth putting on the screen, IMO. It can negatively impact how how well a stylus works with the Prime depending on the type of stylus since it is a little bit rubbery (but not as bad as Zagg skins).
The Skinomi skins for the back of the Prime and the keyboard dock are awesome though. They can definitely help your device from accumulating scratches and make it a lot easier to remove fingerprints from the back of the Prime.

I use a Skinomi screen protector (wet-apply). Before applying I had accidentally made light scratches to the TF201 screen. It was quite visible given certain lighting. After applying the Skinomi, (and its been about 2 months) I honestly cannot see even the slightest bit of the scratches as if they disappeared. I assume the same thing happens with any screen protector though.

Can't wait for the full Skinomi to arrive @[email protected]
I think bestskinsever has a better cutout for the back. And they even carry the dock, and compatible skins now.
I'm using a skinomi compatible screen protector, as that was the only one available at the time, coupled with the back from a bestskinsever.
The bestskinsever skin actually covers the full back, doesnt have a cutout for the Asus logo, and none of the little side pieces, as they are actually a part of the back.
If you look at the renderings on both sites you will see what i mean.
My dark woodgrain skinomi is supposed to arrive today or tomorrow. Can't wait!
Skinomi arrived today...but they sent me the wrong one. Got brushed aluminum instead of dark wood grain .
On the up side, when I e-mailed them they got back to me within minutes to apologize and say they were sending out the correct one.

Yes, they both offer compatible skins, but the BestSkinsEver version has a better back and no side pieces.
When you get the full skin from skinomi you have the screen, the back, and what.. 4 or 5 side pieces.
The BSE has front and back, and the back covers what all those little side pieces cover, plus the asus logo isn't cut out.
I like to use the full back, and a compatible screen protector. Fits in the dock without leaving marks or tearing them up and the full back is protected.

"better" in your opinion, its just a preference. there isn't any real difference that makes one better than the other.

I love my Skinomi Carbon Fiber back cover. It was easy to apply. There are others that don't have the small strips that go around the sides of the tablet but if you take your time and use light heat you can get these pieces on nicely and they look great.
I've yet to put the screen protector that came with my kit on because I'm never satisfied with the results that I've had on other devices. I'm just running it naked.
