possibility of finishing sonys job - Xperia Play Android Development

Was looking at this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1598713 when a brain wave hit me if u could have say the ics play beta from and say the Neo v ics final stock and do this port u would have a finished Sony ics rom. However Im inexperienced in from making and compiling with kernels etc so I wanted to just put the idea out there.

nice idea

It wouldn't surprise me if some devs are already working on this though it would require quite some coding because of different boards

Not sure how to quote but I'm not sure in the guide u transfer things into the original so u wouldn't. Need to worry of different boards

Wait for the mini pro release then it's easy

Mini pro?

This would be perfect, as the xperia arc has similar specs to the play and the arc has ICS, i find that tutorial a bit difficult to understand.
Sent from my R800i using XDA

This is possible, all it needs is for someone to start and upload, next thing to that is that someone who downloads will discover a fix, uploads and another dev would be able to find a fix, and so on and so forth. A single step of a dev can move one dev to take the second step.
Sent by Abie Cruz via Xperia PLAY r800i

Well I'm on holiday this week but we'd need someone to get a zip of the arc or whatever ice stock and someone else to get/make a cwm flash able zip of the beta ics

It's almost certain devs are already working on this. The reason why nothing has been said is they obviously don't want to be inundated with questions and ETA requests. Not to mention the crap they might (will) get if they take ages or can't do it.

Question: are there any project brings ICS to Xperia S?
I dont see any project such as CM9 for ICS XPS
Thanks
Hy, for the moment we can root the phone but Doom have see a bug in bootloader and we can't boot a custom kernel with this bug.
If i'm not wrong...

The guys over at motorola milestone has released cm9 for it. The camera is working as well. The milestone uses an encrypted locked bootloader and stock kernel. It still can be done by some talented devs like DoomLord (provided he gets his XS).
Yeah! Custom roms can be made without unlock bootloader! My old MS running quite smooth with ICS CM9 rom! Kabaldan is a great devs!
Arc s and xperia play have a cyanogenmod stable did to see if dev's can port this. But Doomlord don't make rom if i have a good memory.

The XPS is a completely different device people. We'll need some proprietaries to get ICS running properly, and we still can't boot anything without Sony fixing the bootloader bug. It's not the same problem as the Droid 1/2/X/etc, completely different story here. So now we wait for a fixed bootloader - and for Sony's official ICS that's likely to go live early/mid May. Then Doomlord and the FreeXperia people can port something (and I'm ready/willing to help them). But now it's just no use, because we'll hardly get anything at least nearly usable in a month.
TL;DR Porting ICS right now will take more time and effort than waiting for official ICS to drop mid May and starting then.
AFAIK, Bin4ry and someone else are playing around with CM9 development for the handset, as far as I know.

They sure are, but we won't know how it really works until we can test it on devices and that we can't do without the bootloader fix.

[XPERIA P] Custom Roms

as the ics update for our fone is out will we be having costum roms for our fone ....... also i would also like to do a bug report about theupdate .... the notification sound doesnt work ........ plzz give me a fix asap ......
Ehm. The update for our lovely Xperia P is not a custom one made by XDA-Developers but by Sony. And if I know Sony right they don't care about XDA-Developers.com So I don't think that they see your bug repport. And second. Our developers has a life like you and me. Some maybe has kids so they aren't sitting all day long on the computer What about YOU fixed the issue instead and released it

I have the same thinking about a lack of developers in Xperia P Forum since its very good terminal and we dont have a thing in rom options.
Hope it wont be of course, because of not sucess model.
I had a Galaxy Ace (lower spec phone), and since come up years ago it has a rom every day. Really desire xperia devs could give a try on this terminal!
Cheers!

I'd prefer a fully working CM and AOKP. And MIUI over a zillion similar custom roms. Samsung phones get a lot of custom roms because their stock FW is pathetic

I Think there is Some Few Dev. at Xperia P.
I have been checking the Xperia sola as a new phone. Sadly there is NO development for this device. Some pre rooted roms are nothing. I would love cm on this device. After that I could port miui myself, as I have done for the wfs. And still gingerbread, wtf?
Such a great phone and then this scene, bummer.

Seance Xperia P has ICS and is rooted without unlocking bootloader, not need for custom rom! Phone is fast enought with stock rom! If you need customization, use launchers!
hey work jelly bean for xperia p?

Xperia S - If it gets ASOP, Sony's dilema..

There is alot of chatter about the Xperia S being a ASOP Android device, which can accept standard Android, instead of Sony's skin ontop.
Now this must surely present a dilemma for Sony. Either Sony only have a very loose association with it, providing binaries for hardware drivers, and that's it, which would drive anyone that wants it to unlock their bootloader, en-masse, which is surely something Sony DON'T want to happen.
OR...
They produce a signed FTF that can be flashed onto stock devices, which removes the Sony experience, but means users can also switch back...
This again is also not an ideal situation, as firstly their own inhouse consumer flashtools are not suited to either/or flashing of images and informing end users what the differences are etc. it also encourages users to move AWAY from the Sony UI experience and towards the stock Nexus experience (which is now rather good).
I want they provide choice,AOSP skin and Sony UI.
I don't see why that's so hard.

Because it's very hard to decouple the UI (be it Sony, Samsung, HTC or whoever) from the core of Android.
Perhaps they want Google to do most of the work.

Hopefully they want. Why, they've got problems with providing stable release of ics and we need.to wait long for jb. Hopefully they are not making anything else, and focus on stable jb releases
Sent from my LT26i using xda app-developers app
Google will not do 'most of the work' for Sony, as most of the code for AOSP is already open source and available from CodeAurora. The hardware porting part doesn't take that much time, it's Sony's proprietary technologies that need work. This also explains how we got AOSP-based JB ROMs before Sony released an official update.
Do not turn this thread into a Sony bashing thread its about asop so keep it that way.
If one more person comments in here about how long Sony is taking to release jb I will shut it down.

[DISCUSSION] Too many Stock Based ROMS?

Firstly,
Don't take this the wrong way. Read it completely first and then express your opinions please.
No offense to all you awesome devs who spend time on making ROMS and try to give us your best. I appreciate every bit of your work.
Now back on Topic.
In the last 2-3 months or so, I have started to feel that there are too many stock based ROMS that have been appearing.
And honestly speaking, they all are siblings, i.e. Almost identical with a very minute difference in their looks or very minor cosmetic changes.
So my point is, This vast selection makes people who are new here ( noobs as we lovingly call them ) get confused and keep asking numerous times about which is the best ROM? And also bit*h about some ROM sometimes.
So, my message to you devs is that, if you are spending time on developing, why not make something really unique?
I am not forcing you to, but if all the work you do amounts to nothing since there is already an identical ROM out there, why not do something that you'll be remembered for?
I know this maybe too much for a non-developer guy like me to say or talk about, but I have my reasons to not have enough time to not develop. This lack of time I have made me feel, why do you guys spend time on something that's already been done?
Eg: our great korm first brought us AOKP ICS/ JB and now PAC.
emann is still trying hard to make GB super awesome.
ZduneX25 and Maxworks who take care of MIUI for neos
Sdk who gave us MIUI JB.
ThilinaC who's ROM is stock based, but he took a whole different approach for Pureness and made it less like Sony and more like his own, awesome themed ROM.
And yeah Zdune and mike for proving that pure AOSP doesn't suck. It is still the smoothest ICS has ever been on my phone. Ever.
And there are many more like these guys. Sorry if I didn't include your name coz I didn't recall it right now.
All I want to say is do something like they have done guys.
" Always forgive your enemy, nothing will ever annoy him more."
Yeahs, i was thinking on this... Why dont they do like in x8 forums... Cm9 for locked bootloader

Ok agreed with this, but bring us some more for locked bootloaders also then and not only for unlocked bootloaders what the must devs do, all the roms what i see here requires also stock kernel, so whats the point, no need to unlock your bootloader for a special rom.
Very simple into my eyes to understanding

There is just one ROM like that UHD.
It's hands down the best ROM out there.
I really like the ideology of jader.
He gives us a stripped down performance driven ROM allowing users to customize the way we want.
Just look at the kind of testing he's doing with the new version.

Non Fully Working Roms

I was wondering...
Why do people crave so much non fully working roms?
Do they think: "In my actual rom everything is working and bug free, I got to flash a non fully working rom full of bugs so i can have a lot of work trying to get it to run like my old rom."
Is that it? Sorry but i don't get it.
Don't get me wrong, i'm a sucker for new roms and mods, but if they are not fully working, why bother?
And when i say, non fully working, i mean wifi or camera don't work, not tethering and some other useless crap.

Hey man. Let me mention you something. This thread is non-sense, too. They said development and it is development and you are using the developments of android devices. Android is open-source so everybody can modify it. If you don't like it, then don't use it. XDA didn't promise you to make your phone looks good. It is just developments from the amdroid/linux developers and they didn't promise you to get a full working ROM. They already mention the bugs. Some prefer CM Roms instead stock ROM. Some likes to see new adventures. So, if you're not part of this, you can leave just by now. This thread is useless and also disrespectful to some developers. Development isn't "The ROM to make you satisfy". So be it.

I think you didn't get the point of life and diversity of our world. You know, i don't like cucumbers and think they are awful. Do you like them? If you do, then, following your way of thinking, i should ask, why some people do like cucumbers, if they are awful in my view? They must be crazy and insane!
In fact, no, they are not insane. They are just not the same as me and they prefer different things. And it's beautiful, because if all people were the same, life would be too boring.
So, you need to understand that people are different and stop expecting everyone to feel the same as you. Feel free to use only stable ROMs with all features enabled, but don't accuse users who love flashing new unstable versions of being unwise just because they aren't like you.
Cheers

well i, myself, for instance, crave to take my phone to the next level, leaving the not-so-smooth ROMand trying the various ROMs created by our developer, and i like those buttery smoothness.
the point, for me, is to take the chance in buttery smooth and a lot of free RAM, coz my phone's free ram using the original ROM is quite saddening..

@hackerpower - hey bro howz u .. ?
i was very active in this forum as drsanket_xperia_u .. i remember when u were new here..
okay getting straight to point..
roms cannot be fully working unless experimental builds are released and logcats are provided by us.. on the basis of this logcat errors are rectified.. and slowly n slowly all non working hardware becomes working (not forgetting sources n developer's hardwork)
secondly sometimes bcoz of our fondness for roms we are ready to use a rom irrespective of non working hardware
i remember when jb was ported to xu and camera was non functional ..i used that ported rom for over a week without a camera bcoz i loved jb on my xu ..
i hope u got the point..
From what I have seen and tried for Xperia p, there are no stable roms, Sony isn't even able to make a stable build, this phone sucks and I can't wait to get a new one.
