[Q] which pda, csc and phone file to use? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi!
Is there any optimal combination of the 3 files i should use to flash my mobile?
I only need a rooted Galaxy S2 and Android 4 running in Austria with Hutchinson.
In the moment i use:
PDA: I9100XWLP7
PHONE: I9100XXLPS
CSC: I9100ATOLP2
Build Info: Tue Apr 3 19:44 KST 20112
Generally it runs fine, but there are some freezes and some apps don't run properly. Thats why i put the question here.
Best regards
Gerald

@ first, try to flash a root kernel. cf root is a good one

rootchecker says, that the phone is rooted. Also software insisting on root rights like Titanium runs well. How did you see that i should flash a root cernel first?

if u have installed a custom CWM app then go to recovery, wipe Cache and then in advance ,wipe dalvik cache then do fixpermission reboot to sytem and see if the freeze problem still persists and also for the app that r not running properly try clearing data and cache of those apps and see

Is it possible to install OLYEM 2.1.1 in ME860?

I currently live in China (I am not Chinese) and I am interested to buy this phone.
The device is not exactly the same from ATT. The version is ME860 instead of MB860. It seems that the difference is regarding the 4G hardware.
I just wonder if the method explain by seven2099 in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1070076 is working also for the Chinese version.
How can we know if it is possible to install GreyBlur and hack (Full ubuntu,HDMI...) on ME860?
Does someone already tried?
I don't want to buy something I am going to be lock with. I don't want MotoBlur, and I wish to get the Full Ubuntu.

Since u become "French" rom OLYEM_U4_2.1.1, so many system u can try now.
b/cos many rom use Advance Recovery "System" in clockworkmod
U just need to find rom based on "OLYEM_U4_2.1.1" to develop,
and Kernel support 2.6.32.9.
100% workable u can use no matter greyblur or others.
When dont want to play other rom, or any problem need moto warrently,

Just Advance Recovery "System" in clockworkmod by above pt.3 saved file
P.S. when machine dead in opening moto screen... u forgot wipe, or try many difference system by Advance restore ... or re-boot continuously, but can't wipe in recovery anymore,...
Dont worry :

My question is, if I follow ur step, does i mean my phone swith HK version to France version, and then can i upgrade to office 2.3.4? thanks
Im newbie in Android.

Chile thread UHKE (Chilean 3G carriers: Entel, Claro, Movistar, VTR/Nextel/GTD)

Hi,
I have a Chilean Entel PCS i9100. Looking at the data below it looks like the firmware is pretty old and based on KE1.
There is no problem in changing to the latest generic XEU, e.g. KF2.
XEU is generic Europe; What about the CHE CSC?
*#1234#:
PDA: I9100UHKD7
PHONE: I9100UHKD7
CSC: I9100CHEKD7
Build Info: Wed May 4 13:33:54 KST 2011
Kies DeviceDB registry:
ProdCode: GT-I9100LKLCHE
HIDSWVER: 9100UHKE1/I9100CHEKE1/I9100UHKE1/I9100UHKE1
Thanks,
zyxeu
P.S.: The original Chilean firmwares can be found at Intratech's [ROM + Guide] threads:
Branded stock firmwares, e.g. CHE, CHT, CHL:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1113928
Unbranded stock firmware, e.g. CHO:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
Chilean CHEKE1 CSC now available to download.
The mans just posted .
jje
Download the Frankenstein XWKE7 firmware package and instead of using the multi-CSC package included with it download and use the CHEKE1 CSC.
Thank you very much Intratech.
Hi zyxeu,
I have the same Chilean Entel firmware. Have you managed to update the firmware to KE2 or KE7? and if so did you use Odin?
On other post you mention upgrading the firmware through Kies using "Check Fus Downloader"
Saludos,
Mguel
Hi mguel,
Yes, I changed my Chilean Entel PCS SG2 to XE7 generic XEU and it works.
I did not change the CSC to the Chilean one.
I upgraded the firmware using the Intratech way with his instructions, tools(Odin), and firmware, which he provides in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
In my case after the first firmware download using Odin the device got stuck with an endless Samsung logo boot. This happened to me twice or thrice during firmware downloading. To get around this I always used the following method from post #7 here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1104515
This three firmware download always got the device back to working state!
The order that I have used to update, root, simunlock:
1.) Updated to XWKE7 XEU generic (http://www.multiupload.com/IBRBHDUDXI)
2.) Had to fix the endless loop with the "3 file" method then I did the step 1.) again and it worked
3.) Removed SD and SIM card and then did a full reset *2767*3855# to reset the internal CSC to XEU
4.) Did step 1.) again as recommended to ensure CSC setting really gets changed and everything is in sync
5.) Rooted the device using Chainfire's CF-Root 3.5 KE7 kernel from his thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399
6.) Back up your /efs folder as mentioned in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...&highlight=efs
7.) Unlocked the simlock using Chainfire's unlock app and from android market that uses Odia's method, a Movistar/Claro SIM, and had to do it like this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1106496
So far everything went well and if a problem occured I just used step 2.) to go back to a working system and did all the steps again.
If you are using Chainfire's CF-Root 3.5 KE7 kernel and plan to use a corporate Exchange Activesync account this thread will interest you to fix the boot endless loop that results: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1107457
Basically you overwrite Chainfire's CF-Root 3.5 KE7 kernel with a KE7 stock kernel. Root and Busybox are still working afterwards but I do not recommend the use of CWM, because I do not know how far it is anchored with Chainfire's kernel.
I recommend you to download all files mentioned above beforehand (and the Chilean UHKE1 files just in case).
NEVER USE PIT OR REPARTITION IN ODIN!
As long as you can get in the "firmware download" mode your device can be saved and is not bricked.
There is a way to reset the custom firmware download counter and remove the yellow "!" with a micro USB connector and some resistors (look at intratech's ROOT AND ROM GUIDE thread).
And finally if you need your original Chilean firmware for warranty issues (Claro/Movistar/Entel) check post #10 here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1098738
The efs backup is necessary, e.g. if you end up with a bad IMEI and/or ProductCode, which seems to be fixeable: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=881162
Wow, thanks a lot for the detailed answer!!
Although I rooted and flashed my previous androids, the infinite loop you got 2 or 3 times scares me a bit... so I'll study thoroughly the method before, wainting if entel releases a firmware update in the meanwhile... but as I read somewhere entel is not too active in releasing updates :/, and I like to test different ROMs. Although with the hardware aceleration features of the Samsung firmwares and the fact that I like how it work in general (hated motoblur on my previous phone), I'm not sure if I will test many ROMs but certainly I like to keep my phone updated.
Thanks again for the answer!
Mguel
PS: we should start some sort of chilean SGS2 community.
Dear friends,
I had a Chilean´s movistar version and come with the following firmware:
PDA:UHKE4
PHONE: UHKE2
After read a lot in the forum, i decided and flashed to a custom rom ( VillainRom 1.1 and later to kernel CF-Root 3.5 KE7), all going very charming and rooted everything. I do it following with a youtvbe video ( if you need, plese PM)
Hope it´s usefull your

I think I have had bad luck and got problems, because I tend to reset to factory settings when upgrading the device.
So you can see that even if there are problems, like in my case, you can bypass them and get everything working. That is what makes me really happy and confident about the SGS2.
It looks like there is now a boot loop sticky thread with different instructions by pulser_g2: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1108499
Ok, so far so good.
I'm doing step four of your sequence...
I didn't get any loops, but I got stuck on factory reset until I realized that I should have removed the SD-Card and the SIM-Card :/... after that the factory reset went smoothly, and now I'm with the "vanilla/stock/entelless" firmware!!!
Happy to see the samsung boot screen animation and not the dull and flat entel logo.
If I do a *#1234# I get:
PDA: I9100XWKE7
PHONE: I9100XXKE4
CSC: I9100XEUKD1
Build Info: Wed May 18 16:08:22 KST 2011
So I suppose I did it fine
Now I'll root it.
Thanks again zyxeu
Now also rooted!
So I'll be able to install Titanium Backup!! I was missing it (3 days without it )
Now I'll add Entel's APN, add google account, reinstall apps... etc (with frequent CWM backups)
Edit: strange... the APNs are there... the same that where set when just bought the phone: bam.entelpcs.cl. OT: do you know the difference between using the bam.entelpcs.cl or the imovil.entelpcs.cl (with my previous phones I use the imovil. I believe with my first android I used the bam one until on the browser I start having a sort of entel toolbar on top all the time and on all pages... switching to imovil solved that issue)

Congratulations, now others can follow your steps too.
It looks like BAM is for WAP devices and IMOVIL for devices which browser can handle full HTML, e.g. look under "¿Qué es una APN?" here:

Thanks for the comment.
Great!
By the way having the XWKE7 should make future update process easier I believe… It won't be necesary to wipe user data/factory reset since we will be keeping the same CSC, or not?

Yes, you are right.

So maybe that was the cause of the problems I had on the Factory Reset step, instead of not having removed the sd & sim card...
The bug has to do with the "Factory Reset problem"... so if I'm not planning to do another factory reset (at least before updating to a new firmware to come)... is there a need to flash the same firmware version?... do the bug causes any other problem? (I searched and I didn't find info on other problems that it could cause)

Please review my Odin steps, before I exucte...

I read Intratech's thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278 Page 1 for more than 5 times and I "think" I know how to execute the steps to restore my GT-I9100M just like the 1st day I got it. (since I'm a newbie, I wasn't allowed to post my questions there!)
Samsung Galaxy S II GT-I9100M
Country/Carrier: Canada Bell Mobility

Latest firmware: I9100MUGLD3/I9100MBMCLD3/I9100MUGLD3/I9100MUGLD3

PDA: I9100MUGLD3
CSC: I9100MBMCLD3
Phone: I9100MUGLD3
Build date: April 19,2012 15:39:18 KST
I downloaded GT-I9100M_BMC_ICS_4.0.3_I9100MUGLD3_I9100MBMCLD3_I9100MUGLD3_Original.zip twice from two places (one from http://www.sammobile.com) and using MD5 checker, they are identical.
The zip file has only two files 1)I9100MUGLD3_I9100MBMCLD3_I9100MXXLD3_HOME.tar.md5 file and 2) SS_DL.dll
1) Now I just need confirmation that since it's only one tar.md5 file, I only need to use the PDA as in this http://img153.imageshack.us/img153/5705/odinm.jpg and I can forget about http://img94.imageshack.us/img94/8290/odinxm.jpg, correct?
2) Do I use Odin 1.85 or Odin 3.07?
3) From reading various threads, it seems like one must install Samsung Kies in order for Odin to work?

I read Intratech's thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278 Page 1 for more than 5 times and I "think" I know how to execute the steps to restore my GT-I9100M just like the 1st day I got it. (since I'm a newbie, I wasn't allowed to post my questions there!)
Samsung Galaxy S II GT-I9100M
Country/Carrier: Canada Bell Mobility
Product Code: GT-I9100LKABMC
Latest firmware: I9100MUGLD3/I9100MBMCLD3/I9100MUGLD3/I9100MUGLD3
Build number: IML74K.UGLD3
Android version: 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich
Thanks in advance.

yes just put that file in pda section, you can forget about the second link, use odin 1.85, it is recommended to have samsung kies, and remember do NO pull usb cable in the middle of the process

1. You only need to use the PDA.
- Your first image is correct and you can ignore image 2
2. Use the lower version of Odin first. 1.85 has always worked for me.
3. You need to install kies first, which installs your Phone's drivers but you must know that:
- kies runs in background even after you exit it.
- kies is not a friend to Odin
So to be very safe, do this:
a. Install kies, then
b. Connect your phone to pc, it will install all the drivers
c. Disconnect phone from pc
d. Uninstall kies (kies will be uninstalled, but the drivers will still be installed in your Pc)
e. Reboot pc
f. Now you can safely flash via Odin
Good luck
Swyped from my Samsung Galaxy SII
I don't have kies & i still use odin.. Anyways if you're doing it forst time i Recommend you installing kies...
And it dont mattet much whether you have ¹ firmware file or 3 file package their work is same... Happy Flashing... xD
Peace
Hit Thanks & It will Disappear

The only reason to have kies is for default installation of Samsung usb drivers... The same can be done without kies too as the drivers are easily available for download.
Thanks sanjayshah_cs, Jokesy, Omaxe and WhoIsJohnGalt1979, you guys are a helpful bunch:good:!
I hope after doing this, all remaining leftover files from Root_SuperSU.0.95.Only-signed.zip, busybox and galaxy s unlock by helroz will be wiped from my phone and I'll redo them again.
Thanks again and have a great day!
It does not matter which version of Odin you will use. It will work both on 1.85 and 3.07.

[Q] Need Help on How to Root Again

Ok, so this is my 3rd time rooting my Samsung Galaxy S2, my first ROM was a lighting one, If I can recall, that was rooted roughly 2 years ago, last year, I decided to go back to the STOCK rom and now, I want to install the JellyBam rom BUT apparently, I need CWM which I don't have and if I can recall, when I rooted my phone the first time, I don't think CWM existed back then unless it's that VOLUME-DOWN+POWER button thingy.
Anyway, I have an idea but just don't know how to get CWM, I know there are guides but they're outdated thus unreliable because there are updated ROMS and KERNELS. Now, on Jellybam's official site, it says I need CWM, I've downloaded an APP on the android "Rom Manager" but it says my phone needs to be rooted, I got ODIN but I just don't know what the heck do I use to root my phone with, I also downloaded the CM10.1 kernel because apparently, it has a better life efficiency. I've done far to many search and now, the information I came across is everywhere and I can't seem to piece it together.
P.S > I was reading this guide aswell http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1134290 but just don't get this "CWM-Kernel" and how to get it. Do I need to flash my phone again? How do I check?
PHONE INFORMATION
Model Number : GT-I9100
Android Version : 4.0.4
Baseband Version : I9100XXLQ6
Kernel Version :
3.0.15-1056084
[email protected] #3
SMP PREEMPT Wed Aug 22 22:55:24 KST
2012
Build number : IMM76D.XWLPW
P.S.S > This CM10.1 kernel I downloaded comes with CWM but the question is, how the heck do I install it? There's 2 folders and a Boot image, the folders are "META-INF' and "system", I suppose these files goes on your phone/sd card and from CWM, you install it from there but how can I install it if I don't have CWM?

Just follow this guide to root ur phone again
Given the many threads (and different methods) for rooting a phone available here, why on earth would you link to a method on another site ?
I trust you're going to be around to hold the OP's hand when the inevitable questions come up if he/she has problems ?

[Q] It's so slow with 4.1.2!

Hello everyone,
I heard that if I root the device, I can remove all the junks added by AT&T and Google: can I just have the bare-bone Android OS on the device in that case?
If so, would you mind indicating me what the best rooting procedure is and where I can look-up the steps?
Thanks you!
You could just disable the at&t and Samsung stuff in the application manager settings. You can also root your phone and flash an aosp based ROM. Although some phones don't like aosp very much

Thanks triavq but this is tedious.

I'm not familiar with the Android Open Source Project so I'd really like to have the opinion of someone who did root the device and who's happy with the result.
You don't have to root the phone to flash a debloared rom.
Don't quote, reply. If you quote, edit.
Thanks but I'm still waiting for the URL of a page that would clearly explain how to do that for a newbie like me (just rooted a Nook a long while ago...).

I am a fan of the pure stock AT&T rom frankly because everything works! Sure I'm missing some frills that version 4.2.2 has but oh well. I updated my phone with kies to ver 4.1.2, installed twrp recovery, rooted, and removed a lot of bloat. I'm pretty happy with my device now. I'll list below the steps I did.
To update to latest firmware (from any rom even rooted)
1. Open http://www.samsung.com/us/kies/
2. Click Download for windows
3. Install Kies
4. Open Kies
5. Write down serial number of phone device (it's under battery)
6. Plug in phone to PC and power up phone while HOLDING volume down
7. Once you see the download screen on phone press volume up
8. On PC in Kies click "tools - Firmware Upgrade and Initialization"
9. Type in SGH-I717 (all caps)
10. Type in serial number
11. Follow directions
12. Once phone reboots you will have the latest OFFICIAL AT&T firmware (JB 4.1.2 as of 6-1-2013)
13. Perform a factory data reset before proceeding (it helps it run smoother)
14. Type in google info and enjoy!
To root the stock 4.1.2 rom
1. Use Odin 1.85 in Admin Mode for Windows users.
2. Install TWRP 2.5 via PDA settings.
3. Reboot phone into Recovery.
4. Install SuperSU via the Zip.
5. Reboot phone and viola. SuperSU is there and works.
Download TWRP recovery the Odin Method here:
http://www.teamw.in/project/twrp2/96
Download SuperSU located here:
http://download.chainfire.eu/204
Your now on the latest software for the i717 and rooted.
To remove bloat my favorite app is Titanium backup pro. I always "feeze" an app, then use the phone for a day or 2 to see if anything doesn't work properly. If it does unfreeze it to fix. Stay away from freezing system settings. There are very few you can get away with freezing. Some of the apps I froze you may or may not want to depending on how you use your phone. Like for example I don't use allshare or quickpic but you might. I'll try to list what I removed thru titanium backup. But I might of uninstalled some and cant remember. I'll add to the list as I remember, freeze more, or if someone add's in future posts.
Froze or uninstalled apps:
Allshare play
Allshare service
Att drive mode
Att familymap
Att hot spots
Att locker
Att ready 2 go
Att smart wifi
Att navigator
Aurora
Blue sea
ChatOn
City ID
Device Help
Favorite apps 1.0
Featured Apps 2.0.47.256
Google search 1.0 (I left google search 2.5.8.... alone but freeze it from time)
Kies Air
Kies via wifi
Media hub
Ocean weather
S Suggest
Samsung account 1.4
Samsung backup provider
Samsung Browser sync
Samsung Calendar sync
Samsung Cloud data
Samsung Contact SyncAdapter
Samsung Push Service
Samsung Snote SyncAdapter
Samsunc Syncadapters 2.5.3
ScloudStarter
Try panning
Weather widget
weather widget main
windy weather
**BACKUP FIRST! **
*** Always freeze and test for a while before uninstalling.***
Thanks a lot for the detailed answer!
Exactly what I was looking for.
Looks like I'll have some fun during the week-end...

Unless you want to flash a AOSP rom if you want to you have to root, unlock, and add a recovery and then flash the ROM.

One question: as I'm already on 4.1.2 (see information below), can I just skip the step about installing it via what you described?

Yes just skip to the root part with odin.
The other thing you could do is do a factory reset. I had a terrible experience with JB at first and had to factory reset twice. Now my phone is snappy (really snappy) and I have the stock ROM and I am rooted. There are multiple reports that flashing the update does not get rid of all the bits and pieces from prior ROMs, which may have the effect of slowing down performance. This I got directly from Samsung (although I paraphrased it here).
I suggest just reading the super everything thread about 10 times if you are new to rooting/flashing. It is in the general forum. I was a complete n00b about 2 months ago, now I flash roms because I'm bored while driving in my car My personal opinion is to install twrp/flash supersu, then make a backup. Once you have that backup, go crazy and flash away. Just make sure you factory reset before flashing new roms. Don't do advanced, and if you do, don't wipe emmc or sdcard. emmc hosts that nice backup you just made. Even with the bugs in most of the roms, they are 100x better than stock, and much faster. Even after taking all the AT&T and Samsung garbage out, it is still slower than a custom rom. I just tried stock again 2 days ago, wanted to give 4.1.2 a twirl, and it was much slower than the revolt or carbon I normally run. Have fun and good luck!

You don't have to unlock a phone to flash a rom. You unlock only if you need to use a different carrier's sim card.
You don't have to root a phone to flash a rom. You only root if you need to access the main file system ( access the root directory ).
You don't have to flash a recovery to flash a rom. You can flash a rom using Samsung software Odin3, or Samsung Kies, or a linux version Heimdall. You flash a custom recovery to make backups and have a convenient method to flash roms and do maintenence.
But to uninstall the ATT/Samsung apps, rooting is the path. Right?

Yes then install Titanium Backup app. Freeze the apps you want to get rid of to be sure they aren't essential, then afer a fewbdays delete them.
But you can just flash the stock debloated JB rom.
