[Q] Phone variations means Rom flashing with care? - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

There are two variations now. My assumption is that the roms are hardware specific?
I would assume that roms or mods made for the international version should not be flashed to the US/Canada versions?
We saw these compatibility issues when Barnes and noble released 2 different variations of the nook tablet. Some Dev insight would be great.
I will be filming tutorial videos for this phone and want to make sure warnings on the videos are proper. Thanks.

Of course roms are hardware specific. No need to question that.

my point is that it leads to the next question, should xda create a separate forum section for the north american version instead of just combining both in the SIII in general

+1 For separate model numbers within Galaxy S3 forum section. This would take a lot of the confusion out which roms to flash.

They will.. as they did with galaxy s2. Wait till that device launches and they will all have their respective forums... AT&T, TMob, Veriz, This forum has even been updated from "Galaxy SIII" to "Galaxy SIII GT-I9300"

[Q] Will US and Intn'l versions use the same mods?

I'm thinking about buying a GS3 in a few days and was wondering if the development for both the US and international versions will be the same, or their differences necessitate separate development and therefore a separate forum on XDA?

Everything I've read so far on XDA leads me to believe it will be a separate forum. Think original SGS2 and its variants on ATT etc.

i would think there would be seperate forums................but do u think all us companies will have the same and all work together unlike before with all the name changes and customization like the epic with keyboard and all...... will we all be able to work together meaning (verizon tmobile att sprint and us cellular)

Can I root SGH-I747M?

So I was looking to do a basic root and I noticed that my model number is very different then what it's "supposed" to be. I was going to do the CF-root... Am I still good to do it?
No, go to your specific carrier phone thread, never flash ROM and kernel from international Galaxy S3 for any carrier phone , they have different hardware. Better doing nothing than sorry.

What about posting questions to q&a section in the future? Anyway, you can not continue as you have one of the us versions (att if I remember correctly) with qualcomm snapdragon. Look for the us version thread.

Considering there is no Telus carrier section... where do i get the information for the SGH-I747M, im in the same boat here...
Root Canadian Galaxy S3

Remove the space, i'm new here, and not allowed to post links.
Good Luck!

[Q] No Support for US Cellular

So am I looking in the wrong place or am correct to believe the following.
1. There is no forum for US Cellular's Galaxy S III
2. There aren't any roms for USC GSIII
3. Most importantly there are no files to get my phone to stock if I brick it attempting to "test" some other carrier roms.

Yeah I know this isn't the place for my phone. But if it doesn't exist what forum should I post about the my GSIII?
Clearly this is the international forum but I'm wondering if anyone else knows where to find what I'm looking for or if it just really doesn't exist.
That sticky is the first thing I read and as it looks there isn't any link to redirect me towards my carrier's phone.
Verizon galaxy SIII forum is your best bet because AFAIK the USC variant is CDMA as well.

New User Question

This Might Be one of the dumbest question to ask. but yeah I feel like im lost here in the s2 section of xda.. So i am seeking answer:
There is three section for developments:
Galaxy S II Original Android Development
Galaxy S II Android Development
Galaxy S II I9100G Android Development
My Phone Model Says GT I9100 so I guess third one is not for me.. but about the 1st two im confused. Which one should is for my phone?
Please help me out.
This has already been discussed on XDA.
Original dev is for things derived mostly from source, ie kernels and AOSP based roms etc.
Other section is for derivative roms, ie roms that are based on other built orms but had some modifications like apps/themes/fixes etc.
Bottom line, pick any ROM from the first two and you're golden. Steer clear of the i9100G forum.

thanks for your reply.. now it seems cleared to me..

best i9305 modem in canada

hi everybody;
I have recently brought a i9305 and using it in Canada, however I find that my 4g signal is always low; (1 bar) and is always sittint at that (1 bar). Now is there any other modem thats better then the one that I use. currenly i try ZHALI2, and XXBLL3; they are pretty much the same
1. Asking for a best ROM is against the rules. Read them.
2. It's the 9300 section, not 9305
All I can suggest is try them, also have you tried other phones and do they get a better 4g signal? It could be the signal in your area that is the problem not the phone or modem.

This is the I9300 and I9305 forum, check the name, the only area that is different is the development forum because the roms aren't cross compatible, the general discussion is rolled into one. Check the path to this forum Home > Samsung Galaxy S III I9300, I9305 > Galaxy S III General.

You're right, I confused it with the Q&A section.
But still, you can't ask for a best ROMs on XDA

It all depends on a range of factors and only you can find the best, try them and find out, what I find the best might not be the best for you.
