I'm thinking about buying a GS3 in a few days and was wondering if the development for both the US and international versions will be the same, or their differences necessitate separate development and therefore a separate forum on XDA?

Everything I've read so far on XDA leads me to believe it will be a separate forum. Think original SGS2 and its variants on ATT etc.

i would think there would be seperate forums................but do u think all us companies will have the same and all work together unlike before with all the name changes and customization like the epic with keyboard and all...... will we all be able to work together meaning (verizon tmobile att sprint and us cellular)

This thread belongs in Q&A.
Better yet - look at vibrant (since your from us and tmobile) forum.
Ah i get it, OP meant to say
"Which forum is right"
i think the "Witch" ROM
i lol'd
This thread is an ultra-fail. OP spelling and grammar is a mess =P
If it's the T-Mo Vibrant, go to that forum...if it's an I9000 variant, stay here. Pretty simple.
Either way, this ain't dev, so thread reported.
Im so lost lol apparantly theres about 50 galxy s phones

Yeah something like that
The US variants (TMo Vibrant, AT&T Captivate, Spring Epic, Verizon Fascinate) all have their own forums.
There are smaller carriers with US variants like CellSouth or US Cellular, no idea where they go I also don't know where the Telus Fascinate goes, but the Bell Vibrant (which is really an I9000M) and any other I9000 goes here.
Since it sounds like this is actually for a T-Mobile Vibrant instead of the i9000, I've moved it to the Q&A section for that device.
OP, please take a moment to read the following thread, for guidelines on proper thread placement, particularly regarding the dev section:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=800636
There are two variations now. My assumption is that the roms are hardware specific?
I would assume that roms or mods made for the international version should not be flashed to the US/Canada versions?
We saw these compatibility issues when Barnes and noble released 2 different variations of the nook tablet. Some Dev insight would be great.
I will be filming tutorial videos for this phone and want to make sure warnings on the videos are proper. Thanks.
Of course roms are hardware specific. No need to question that.

my point is that it leads to the next question, should xda create a separate forum section for the north american version instead of just combining both in the SIII in general

+1 For separate model numbers within Galaxy S3 forum section. This would take a lot of the confusion out which roms to flash.

They will.. as they did with galaxy s2. Wait till that device launches and they will all have their respective forums... AT&T, TMob, Veriz, This forum has even been updated from "Galaxy SIII" to "Galaxy SIII GT-I9300"
sent from my Galaxy S III
I've seen this question batted about in various parts of the U.S. Variant sub-forums, but haven't seen a specific movement to get these Galaxy S III forums further sub-divided. Although the hardware is pretty much identical, isn't there problems, issues, Q&A, that is germane to specific carriers? Although I do not have my GS3 in hand waiting for Verizon, this forum is already becoming an incomprehensible jumble of affairs. We are not talking about a phone that is limited release, this is a huge release. The "General" conversation is going to be different as will be Q&A. I mean we already have witnessed hard bricks from those flashing international ROMS. And I know the mandra of "read and read more" but wouldn't people be more comfortable if they had a Sprint version GS3 to go into a "Sprint" GS3 forum? To see issues specific to their carrier like "my data speed sucks how about yours" or LTE is lit up in New York or Verizon put how much bloatware on their phones?
IDK, I'll be here reading everyday but it just doesn't seem to make sense to jumble all the carrier threads together. I've never done it but can we at least get a public opinion poll posted for users to chime in what they would like to see? Each variant sub-forum will still be huge simply because this will probably be the best selling Android phone of the year.
Finally I remain humble and grateful for all the help and learning I've gained from here; not making any demands but just a suggestion.
This is a very good point. I asked the exact same question in the moderator introduction thread and apparently nothing is scheduled to change so far. I think they should sub-divide this by variant, ie i747, 999, etc, similar to what was done in the one x forums. This is currently way too crowded to follow properly or contribute in a meaningful way. I think xda are not used to such sales numbers of a device and were ill prepared with their sub-forum breakdown. I am hoping they rectify this and break this up further for all of our sakes.

It Is weird for most of people that had phones that are available in 1 carrier and not others, but trust me everything will be fine, I been on galaxy nexus forums, evo 3d gsm and cdma, etc, and by just having like this you might learn new things and should make development easier and porting, just make sure you clarify what phone are you talking about, remember that XDA is hosting all these forums for it and we're no paying anything too, the more forums you have the more expensive it could be

I have an idea that would help both mods and us xda user when it come to SGs3 forum. General and accesories can be left without carrier specific names. Then sprint, verizon, att&t, and t-mobile can have their own sub-forums with development, Q&A, and themes & apps.
Ex.
[Sprint]Gs3
- Dev
-Q&A
- Themes & Apps
And last the title of the Gs3 forum title should be changed to
"U.S Samsung Galaxy S3 variants ( Sprint, T-mobile, Verizon, & Att&t)
With this two sub forums can be deleted that are present now since they'll be apart of the carrier variant sub forum.

I totally agree. Lumping all the carriers into one forum makes things so crowded that the forums are almost unusable. It's really difficult to get back to a topic that you were browsing unless you actually made a post and can look it up that way. This is all with a limited release, just wait till you can get these in any store!

Lots of users didn't like the lumping of the forums; in particular the absolute fact that users will flash the wrong rom on their phones.
We've had users flash i9300 roms and they're not lumped in here. I agree that people should READ, but the reality is that lots do not in their haste and excitement.
I'm all for making things easier on the mods, because I could not imagine having to read EVERY post to make sure things stay on topic and civil. I just think there can be a happy medium between that and what the users would like.
Hi. I'm new to EVO LTE and I kinda look for this answer but couldn't quite find it. Why is there 2 development for EVO LTE?
I have the original black EVO. Do I use the original EVO development? Or does it matter what I use? Thank you in advance.
Sent from my EVO LTE using xda premium
Original development is for thing like root methods etc., development is for roms and mods based off of stock things.
"We're coming from a pure power source"
There's a sticky at the top of the original development forum that explains everything

It's not a dumb question, it's a dumb system. To have these two development sections separated is just plain dumb. A better division would be roms separate from rooting methods or such. But to distinguish between some roms as being original and some not seems to be very inconsistent. This separated development sections started with the Samsung threads and they can keep it. Give us HTC guys back our single development thread.

Its supposed to be a way to distinguish ROMS & other projects that have significant original work being done from those that are simply modified stock.

But most of the roms in the original development section are just heavily themed and nothing else. Nothing groundbreaking. If you go with the original intent of the separation of development threads than only CM10 would be in that thread,
There's plenty of original development done in those roms/ect

So am I looking in the wrong place or am correct to believe the following.
1. There is no forum for US Cellular's Galaxy S III
2. There aren't any roms for USC GSIII
3. Most importantly there are no files to get my phone to stock if I brick it attempting to "test" some other carrier roms.

Yeah I know this isn't the place for my phone. But if it doesn't exist what forum should I post about the my GSIII?
Clearly this is the international forum but I'm wondering if anyone else knows where to find what I'm looking for or if it just really doesn't exist.
That sticky is the first thing I read and as it looks there isn't any link to redirect me towards my carrier's phone.
Verizon galaxy SIII forum is your best bet because AFAIK the USC variant is CDMA as well.
