Anyone able to recommend a online site for screen repair? I have several dead spots and they are driving me nuts.

How about XDA http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1582467
Not competent enough to do this myself. I was looking for a company I can send my phone out to.
Thanks!
check mom and pops electronic stores, look on craigslist (as there are always ads for it).

I'm having such a hard time getting a replacement for my HTC EVO 3d. It's got dead pixels and dust under the screen. I previously exchanged it for a hole on the buttons on the bottom letting light through.
I've spoken to retentions and customer service and everyone keeps sending me back to the same store. Now the retentions manager has to be emailed everytime I do something.
I'm mulling over just killing my line in the family plan. If I do, can I just reopen the line in a few days?
Yes you can but make sure that you go to a diff store they might not help you.

Mine has a few flaws but if I decide I can't live with them I will simply return it within 30 days. I don't play the exchange game and it sounds like Sprint is kind of tired of it as well.

Well I've already gone to a different store albeit not a repair center. They admitted that yeah something was wrong with the phone but that since they weren't a repair center they couldn't do anything but refer me to the original store which is a repair center.
And yeah I think I'm going to just return it in the 30 days and kill the line.
Today I exchanged mine because the sd card kept getting a read error... Would have to open the back, pull battery, pull card, and put it back in each time (about 3 times a day for past week). They replaced it instantly in store.
Then I started walking out of the store with the new one and noticed the screen was off center. They wouldn't replace it again... even though they just gave it to me 5 min ago. They saw the issue, but said I could still see the whole screen so it shouldn't be a problem! I had to call Sprint and they wouldn't send me another one because this one came from the store (opposed to the first one from telesales). I then called HTC and had a 3 way call with them and my local store. The manager will be replacing it tomorrow. Geez.. 4 hrs wasted today... but I get another replacement finally.
I'm on my fifth one here, and I had no problems exchanging them. however, take it to a sprint repair center. They are not allowed to work on htc devices for the first 30 days of a launch device. So they must exchange it. I did not get any hassle from them. Just call customer service and create an e ticket before hand. Hope this helps

Yikes
I already had one replaced because the front camera was bad. I have already got a bit of dust under the screen. Probably a bad gasket seal. I have an otterbox now and it helps. Kinda worried about this phone. Also some apps randomly disappear and needs restart as well as some sdcard contents. Go figure hopefully when we have some custom roms things will improve.

I'm glad to see how much progress has been made on the after market software front. Really.
But I want to get a 3vo I'm content with before I void my warranty.
I went to the store today to do my second exchange. The first one went through smoothly but the employees in the store today were being hardasses.
This replacement 3vo has somewhat severe light leakage occurring in the bottom bezel. The capacitive menu button is discolored. And the screen is even more crooked than my last 3vo.
I still took it in stride until I realized the tilt of the screen was causing issues with the digitizer.
I consider all these issues to be manufacturer's defects. The manager I spoke with today says he recognizes them as design features of the phone.
I drove 90minutes there and back to the nearest Sprint repair center only to be told off by an asshole.
I'll have to try somewhere else on Monday.
Just getting this off my chest, please excuse my ranting.

I just have to ask. Okay, so you go to the store to exchange the phone. They exchange it, regardless of being hard-asses or not. Why did you even leave the store without checking it from top to bottom, inside and out? I know they powered it up because they have to do that to activate it on your line. And even IF the battery in the new one was dead, why didn't you say "hey, can I use the old battery long enough to test this thing out since I've had problems?"
Sorry for my rant, but it is getting so tiring to come here to read about development and support and it is just thread after thread of people pissing and moaning about problems with the hardware. People pissing and moaning about exchanging their phone 3, 5, and even 7 or more times. I mean really? WTF is wrong with people that you actually would continue to try and get a phone after supposedly getting 7 defective ones in a row?
Then, to make matters worse, you get people on here *****ing about the people constantly *****ing about the problems they have...these are the worst.
This site is called "XDA Developers" - not "XDA Complainers"
Well. I did have them turn it on.
I had the last one exchanged for a dead pixel, that's the deal breaker for me.
I don't expect a perfect phone, just one I'm happy enough with.
I'm pretty free going. I didn't expect the digitizer issues with this one, that's a deal breaker.

^^^^^agree. If you were nieve enough to leave the store without checking the phone for problems, then that's your fault.
On the other hand, they are manufacturers defects. Try calling CSL and telling them about it. When I had a problem with my 3D, after having problems with my local Sprint store, they emailed my a work order for me to take my phone into the Sprint store. I printed it out, took it, and my phone into the store, and they fixed it.
But I cannot believe you left the store without checking the phone...

But again, why didn't YOU test it? You've been on these forums. You've seen all the tears being shed pretty much daily. Why would you ever leave the store without testing it. IF I had a problem with my phone, I would have said very simply to the Sprint person, "I'm not leaving the store until we find one phone without any defects."
But...then again...I've never had a defective phone yet...so I've never had to test this theory out in real life.
After i had mine replaced due to front facing camera failure i tested it to no end before i left. Fool me once shame on you fool me twice shame on me. This is your second evo? Shame on you.

i have one dead pixel, maybe 2, right next to each other on the top most part of the screen.. and i dont care enough to return it, everything else is fine on it.
i understand if you are a perfectionist, but as some of the other posters said, we kinda dont care too much any more. too many people complaining. you should be posting this on the sprint customer support forums so those store employees get fired!!!!
I got a new transformer prime a couple of days ago, and I'm happy to report it has no wifi, GPS or Bluetooth issues
but it has a 3 stuck pixels in a 1.5cm area, which is covered under warranty, atleast as I understand
My thing is I wanna keep it. Is there anyway to 'wake them up' like you could with iOS products thru a cydia app
Thanks in advance
EDIT REASON: oops! I originally called the pixels dead. Thanks for getting me to notice that

Nope, you can't raise pixels from the dead.
If you don't believe me, you can try a pixel fixing app (like this one: https://market.android.com/details?id=com.htc.chris.blackspotdetect&feature=search_result) and see if it helps you, however if your pixel is actually dead (and not just stuck) there likely isn't any software that will fix it.

Oops, i meant stuck, not dead. Thanks for making me notice my error.
I tried your application but the stuck pixels are in the lower bar and your application won't rotate. I found another app that does.
Should I put the time in to try to fix them, or are these apps useless?

Some people say these apps work ad other say it doesn't fix their issue.
If you have an hour or two to spend trying to fix it, I would say it couldn't hurt anything to try. If it doesn't work then you should still be able to go the RMA route.

hey, just wondering what happened? did you RMA?
I bought a used transformer, and it has light bleed, and at least 8 stuck pixels [mostly only viewable on Black] scattered around, some smaller, some bigger.
can I RMA it? I'm not even sure about the warranty but I assume it's been less than a year from the original purchase..
Don't want to RMA but have pixel that is stuck on at all times. Any idea if you can RMA for that?

Absolutely, hell yes! Lol, don't settle for something like that, there's no way I could deal with dead pixels.
Just be sure to completely document your packaging and shipping process and to photograph your screen while your serial number is in view. You may not have to worry depending on where you are, but a number of people have had issues with either the repair center breaking/damaging the tablets, scamming people with images that aren't their tablet (in the case of bimbobo), or the freight courier inducing damage. Better safe than sorry!
you could always try. anyone ever read the warranty card on the part about displays? I'm not sure if only 1 stuck pixel will count. I would still try though but I remember the warranty card saying it has to be like 8 stuck pixels in one area or something. still go for it though. just warning you what the warranty card said. look at it.

Well, I'd raise a hell of a stink. I know the "rules" and all, but the jokes on you if you abide by them. Some supervisor somewhere will want to stop dealing with you and push it through. That's just me though

good point. I'd still go for it.
I'd say go for it and raise hell, but BE AWARE you probably have to part with your tablet for ATLEAST A MONTH before you get it back(thats if you contact them non-stop after 14 business days and keep sending gary and hai emails)
So I just wanted to let you guys know that I finally thought that I saw the end of my sgs2's life last week. It was a sad moment. I love this phone. This was something the I thought couldn't be fixed due to it being the emmc blocks being f$cked.
Anyways. to make a long story short. I was contacted by Josh at mobiletechvideos.com and he said "don't worry about it, i'll fix it for you." So here i'm thinking "this guy''s crazy! He can't fix this!" Well. HE DID!!!!!! He fixed what I thought couldn't be fixed! I now have my sgs2 back to life.
I would seriously recommend sending your devices to mobiletechvideos.com if any of you have any issues. They do all sorts of great things to many different devices. He received my device and had it sent out back to me within hours of receiving it!!! Really fast turn-around time. I've never seen anything like it. Go check out their site guys!!!!

Yes Josh is a GREAT guy. I have had many phone conversations with him with questions that turned into interesting conversations. He had fixed my Captivate after I finally bricked it a couple years ago. I HIGHLY recommend his work on the SGS1 and SGS2. I am sure he works on other phones as well.

Why not just buy a replacement and do it yourself? Or buy the part and have someone fix it nearby? It's not that hard. You can buy whole lower assembly and replace it too.

This is exactly what I did. Part took a week or two to arrive -- nothing you can do there, but then changing the part took around 5-10 minutes and most of that was having trouble with the power button not staying put -_- It's really easy and it costs like $10. Totally worth it.

Kinda on the fence about doing it myself I replace the housing on an iPhone 3G and it was a pain in the ass. I'll look into it though.

The part is painfully easily to replace, if you need help I can walk you through it! I just ordered the same part for my GF's i777 so when it gets here I can take pictures of the installation if you want!
That would be perfect.

Thanks for the review Sean. It was an absolute pleasure to help out one of my favorite developers as well as the community at the same time!
Keep up the great work!
I just checked with a local JTAG service. they quoted me $75 ($25 more). i told them that's much more than the price i'd get at mobiletechvideos.com, and to put it in his words, he said "those sites are bull****. they will switch out your parts and tell you they can't fix it."
to that i replied "developers and people from XDA have recommended their service" and he told me "you think i don't know that?" That's where I ended the conversation. I don't trust them at all, if all they do is badmouth people they don't even know anything about.
The guys at Mobiletechvideos are first class. They repaired my hard bricked Captivate, & installed the "unbrickable mod" on it for me. They also repaired my hard bricked Galaxy s2. I'd recommend them to anyone who needed their Samsung smart phone fixed.
