I purchased a Touch Pro 35 days ago from Sprint. The phone just completely died, and sprint is telling me to contact Assurion for a replacement since the 30 day return period is over.
Does anyone know if Assurion is sending out refurbished or new Touch Pros? Is the Touch Pro so new that refurbs have not actually been made yet?
It would be a shame if I receive a refurbished phone, when just last month I paid alot of money for a new one.
I appreciate any and all replys

The truth is with any htc slide phone you get you will end up replacing it at least yearly because they just don't last. They put new casings without scratches, just the internals are refirbs. And when that one wears out it will be time to upgrade anyway.
Asurion will probably tell you to go back to Sprint. You should only be getting a replacement from them if you have a non-warranty issue. If the phone refuses to boot, and there's no signs of damage (outside of normal wear-and-tear), then it's a warranty issue and Sprint should either replace it or send it out to be repaired.
I work as a tech in a Verizon Wireless, and have seen Asurion refuse to replace phones for warranty problems. Their replacements are definitely refurbished, and I've even seen franken-phones come from them (phones built from parts from more than one model of phone!).
I'd suggest calling Sprint again and tell them to get off their butts and honor your warranty.

Sprint often tries to dodge doing the warranty work, but I agree this is probably a warranty issue, that should be handled as such. If Sprint won't do it HTC can be reached directly, the HTC warranty contact information is in the back of the manual that came with your Touch Pro.
But people who have received Touch Pro replacements via Asurion have been getting brand new devices.
I'd press for a warranty replacement, simply because there won't be any deductible involved in warranty repair/replacement.
It's always better to get new instead of refabs. Think of new car versus used car .
Warranty
Verizon warranties their phones for a year if it isnt damaged. As long as its a manufacturer defect i think sprint should warranty it. Ive had HTCs for about 3 years now. The only ones that i had to replace was my Titan when it flew off the trunk of a car. And the ones assurion sent me were junk. the charging ports were out of them. So i made them send me a new one.
I too would contact sprint and ask them to do a warranty replacement. Provided you don't have any water damage etc ... If it just quit working it should be covered. If you damaged it, then contact assurion.

i work as a tech for sprint...he's right...it should be replaced in store if you havent damaged it
he could be living in a non corporate area and that kiosk/dealer/affiliate may not be able to do warranty swaps
Assurion did right by me
Back in January I had to get my Titan replaced after the USB port was damaged. When I called it in to Assurion, I was told that they had no Titans available, "would I mind if they sent me a Touch Pro instead?" Nope, not at all. Paid my $50 deductable and got a shiny brand new TP in the mail 2 days later.
Sorry to hear of the poor experience some of you have reported, but I must say they treated me first class.

Look good man this is what it comes down to. Call up Asurion before March is up. In April the price for elite phones like our TP, will go from 50, to 100! If your phone so much as flashes a pixel in the wrong way, send it in NOW! Sprint is soo beautiful for this! Because they are changing the terms of the TEP we all get $400 dollar plus phones for $50. They don't only send you a phone and a charger, they send you the whole deal!
I'm using the phone and my reception has skyrocketed from the Mogul! I'VE HAD 450 KB/s TRANSFER RATES WITHOUT 5 BARS! This has, for me, solidified my continuing (once flagging) partnership with Sprint. I love e'm now; probably until I have to talk to a customer service rep, but hey it's not like Verizon, the #1 CDMA supplier (And there is no way in hell I could do GSM with their out of whack version of 3G) is any better, they're actually worse!
Do it now. Don't be caught after the fact having to pay more for what you could have gotten now, for less.
Asurion prices
I sell VZW. And so far we have not been told about any price changes to our deductiples for tier 2 phones. I just actually had mine replaced (due to a cracked screen) with saturday delivery for $50. and there was no notice in the box from asurion either. And they sent me a brand new in the box.
I got my Mogul replaced with a TP a few weeks ago. A letter, or booklet I should say, came from Assurion a few days later. It outlined the new deductibles for pretty much all the high end phones. I don't know where it is and can't remember if it was only Sprint specific. I do know that it had something in there saying to get a complete list of phones go to Sprint's website. That's not to say that it didn't say anything about other carriers. I just don't remember. Either way, sometime in early to mid April, the deductible is going up to $100 for high end Sprint phones.

I want to ask whether there is an additional warranty for the phone provided by Samsung on top of the one provided by the actual seller. I want to know whether I can rely on that one in the case that the original seller's waranty is made void or I am not able to rely on it.
This is because I am buying the phone new but from ebay.
If you are worried about the warranty, then I would recommend buying it from the high street, or a network, certainly not via Ebay.
Is the ebay seller a business, or individual? There are different rules for each. But I wouldn't trust ebay/paypal in either case, too much potential for trouble.

I haven't had experience of Samsung, but HTC and SE are both fine at honouring warranties when I've bought stuff from E-bay, so I guess samsung will be too.
Hopefully you're correct. But if they implement the same procedures as they do for their 'out of service area' HDDs, then they won't touch it with a barge pole. You need to know the source of the phone and how reliable/respectable the ebay seller is.
Maybe I should try contacting Samsung then. The guy says the phone hasn't been opened (he bought 2 units) and purchased from expansys anyway so I guess the warranty is directly with Samsung. Plus I wonder what Expansys would ask for in the event I have to return the phone.

Spoke to Samsung on the phone. They said I have to have an initial proof of purchase i.e. the invoice of the actual buyer. Doesn't sound too bad.
So I just purchased Amaze from eBay, now I need to decide if I should get warranty for it through squaretrade Normally I buy it, since phones with eBay don't come with warranty but this time they are quoting me me an outrageous $72 for 1 year, almost 1/5 the price I paid for phone
Build wise the phone looks pretty sturdy and is in mint condition, so wondering if I should get it? How is the general feedback about the phone...are there lot of RMAs
I know about the squeak issue with some phones, but luckily I don't have it and its also covered by HTC since back cover is an accessory so i'm eligible..
You still have HTC warranty. I bought phones from eBay and HTC honored the warranty.
If you have T-Mobile, you can call them and tell them you received the Amaze as a gift and you can add insurance, warranty or insurance + warranty.

As I said, HTC only provides warranty on accessories not the phone
I don't have T-mobile...but do you know how much will just the warranty normally cost through TMO?
EDIT: Just noticed, for rooting/custom ROMS I would have to unlock the bootloader through HTCdev tool, guess it would pretty much void any warranty ?
If it was me, then yep I would be purchasing a warranty, just in case as you just never know man.
Also of course, anytime you root your phone will void a warranty, but can always install the original GB 2.3.4 back on it and be good to go. Heck, I know people that forget to put it back and still are fine, but I would take it back to factory myself.

No. HTC does warranty the phone still.

HTC will honour hardware warranty - provided the damage wasn't the result of software overclocking - even after unlocking the device. Software issues you'd be on your own for with custom ROMs... but I'd assume they'll support you if you revert to stock.
I bought an Amaze off eBay back in January from who I thought was reputable on eBay. Used the phone for 3 1/2 weeks and T-Mobile shut my service off. Phone had a fraudulent IMEI. The guy I bought from refunded me after I shipped it back, but do yourself a quick favor before buying a ST warranty and other accessories. Call T-Mobile, tell them your IMEI and just make sure yours is clean. You'll feel better going forward buying accessories and stuff.

Thanks so much. They did let me add insurance for my "gift" phone (bought from cragslist). I think they can see I've been using the phone less than 14 days and didn't bother verifying whether it a used phone or not.

If that's insurance from T-mobile then I'd remove it right away. The reps are required to get a certain amount of sales per hour and even if you have insurance on your line, Assurion will not cover the phone for damage because the phone was not bought from T-mobile. I was a rep there and seen people get declined because of this same reason. I would call them up and downgrade to warranty only. It's what I use, because I know if I send in a damaged phone that it's still cheaper than sending a phone into Assurion for an insurance claim. The only thing the warranty won't cover is lost/stolen. If you do damage your phone you just don't tell the rep that it's damaged and you'll get a out of warranty fee on a later bill.

Can they really tell the phone was not bought by ME from T-mobile? Otherwise it is still a phone with Tmobile logo on it bought by someone from Tmobile.

Incorrect. As a former rep, I know some loopholes. I bought my Amaze from eBay. My brother cracked the screen when he dropped it on the concrete (idiot) and Asurion sent me a new one.

Yes. When a phone was used and is registered on another account. It'll show the warranty is invalid. If you say it was a gift and add warranty/insurance, they will honor it.

As a former rep, why would you even carry insurance through T-mobile? The warranty is $4 less per month and the OOW(out of warranty) fee is cheaper than doing a claim with Asurion. The highest I seen a OOW fee was $115 for the SGS2 and the Amaze was $105. Also, the OOW fee drops as time goes on, but the Asurion claim fee remains the same high price.
Hey Guys. I am planning on buying the Galaxy S3 I9300 international version instead of AT&T's version, but I was wondering what would be the best place to get the phone from? Also, what insurance does the international S3 have in the US? I've heard that since it's an international phone, it will not have a manufacturer's warranty in the US. Also, apparently you can't buy insurance through 3rd party companies because your phone is international. Any ideas? I guess the only place is through eBay and buy squaretrade's insurance but it does not cover accidental damage..... I'm perplexed
Worth Ave Group or Ensquared cover international phones. I'm using Worth Ave Group and they both cover pretty much all. You are correct on warranty. You can't get service from USA, usually you have to send it in Europe or have company you purchased the phone from do the warranty claim for you.
I think expansys-usa is popular site to buy. I would never buy from ebay since seller can't help you if anything goes wrong. Also I think I have heard squaretrade doesnt cover international phone but I'm not 100%

Why don't you buy it from Negri electronics and buy the warranty for 2 years ( 95$ as I remember) it will cover everything, I pre-ordered the AT&T version with the warranty that covers everything even theft after contacting their online support and they said they cover Canada too.
I sent them an email and I am waiting for the reply to confirm that they cover Canada since there is no point of spending 95$ for a warranty that doesn't work in Canada, call their support and see if they cover it before buying tho

Negri's prices are quite steep, yes.... I am not sure if I will be able to afford it for that much...
I use Safeware. They have covered my phones for several years now, and never any hassles. Plus there is no deductible.
Expansys was the best on the preorders. Negri screwed everyone over. Look in the general preorder threads. My experience with Expansys was perfect.
Expansys are the worst to deal with, I had a Note that died, not only did they decline helping me with warranty, but they refused to give me the postal address of the Samsung they got it from so I could return it myself. I have a $800 paper weight because of them...

I had an order in for a Black i9300 on Newegg and then cancelled it because I found out that there isn't a warranty. Where can I buy an international Galaxy S3 for the US with a warranty over 90 days?
Don't want to drop $500 on a device and then have it break next month.

As someone found out in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2036231 Seems like you're out of luck. Buy a really great case/screen protector and hope for a lack of hardware failure...and use American Express to purchase, but i'm unsure whether their warranty protection covers this.
Newegg gives 90 days on unlocked phones. I got mine there, and that was one of the reasons. You can also buy a third party warranty through them.

The third party warranty only covers accidental damage, not the warranty.
