[Q]Flashing With Odin[Q] - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Yo guys,
Just about to flash with Odin the Stock software. The guide on the software page doesen't go into much detail and the only other guides I can find are the same
When flashing Stock, which boxes need to be ticked? For example there is the Auto-Reboot and the F Reset time? Also next to the box that says 'PDA' there is a little tick box, do I need to tick this?
Heads up, thanks!

No idea which guides you've been reading but alk I've seen come with screenshots saying DON'T CLICK THESE on them.
The PDA box will self tick once a file is selected.

Help needed please Galaxy S2 - Stock ROM - ENC2 file decryption and ODIN flash ?

Hello all
I have the S2 galaxy which is locked to the Orange network.
I have an unofficial version of ICS 4.0.3 LPH on at the minute - I flashed myself with odin.
I want to put an Orange stock rom on, which I have downloaded via Check Fus downloader 2.1.
The file comes as an 'ENC2 file' which I decrypted using the advanced options of check fus downloader.
But ended up with ONE - I9100BVKJ4_I9100ORAKJ4_I9100BVKJ4_HOME.tar.md5 file only.....
I know from previous ROM downloads you get the 3 or 5 files needed to place in the PDA, CSC and PHONE selections.
How do I split it down further to get the 3 files for:
PDA
CSC
PHONE
I tried the whole file in all 3 settings above at the same time - nothing happened only the check sum was successful
I tried the whole file on its own in the PDA section - big red fail appeared in the top left box!
I did this procedure with USB debugging on at 1st, then I tried it again with debugging off - still the same results.
The phone is also in Download mode (vol down, home and on button) at the time of trying to flash.
Re- partition, Auto reboot and F.reset time were also checked / ticked in odin.
So any ideas on what to do or where I'm going wrong??
Do I need a 'bootloader file or PIT file ??
Thanks for any answers.
Also are there any ways to have the sim lock removed ie any software to do this?
U need to select one package in odin then click on start...
Ur prblm will be solved
Coz i faced the same problem earlier
Sent from my GT-S5670 using XDA
Hello
I'm trying that right now,3rd time now- the whole package on its own (I tried in PDA and PHONE and CSC but nothing)
Get the message:
File analysis
Set up Connection
But nothing is happening ??
Did you read the FAQS and GUIDES first ???? big no to that i guess .
But ended up with ONE - I9100BVKJ4_I9100ORAKJ4_I9100BVKJ4_HOME.tar.md5 file only.....
I know from previous ROM downloads you get the 3 or 5 files needed to place in the PDA, CSC and PHONE selections.
Did you read the instructions on XDA for flashing stock firmware another big no .

They are constructive if you bother to read the FAQS and GUIDES your problem is solved this is not a help forum for lazy buggers its a development forum .

Ask a reasonable question to expect a point in the right direction / link and there's always one to get on their high horse who's not happy.

[Q] Restoring to Stock from CM9

Hey guys,
I'm trying to restore my Galaxy S2 to the stock firmware. I'm currently on one of the CM9 nightlies and wish to return to the default O2 UK ICS firmware. I originally got this on by installing (flashing? I'm not too good with the Android terminology, sorry) clockworkmod recovery and from there installing an update.zip from the SD card.
In order to restore to the default software, I've downloaded Kies, Odin and what I believe to be the correct firmware, in the form of a tar.md5 file. This should be placed in the PDA option, correct? The boxes ticked are Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time, but the one I'm worried about is Re-Partition. Should this box be ticked? All the guides I've read are the same up to this point, but give conflicting guidance regarding repartioning. I don't know if being on CM9 will make this any different?
If this is successful, the phone will have all the default apps etc. and the yellow triangle on boot up will be gone?
Thanks in advance for your help, sorry I'm a noob at this - it's a reason I want to return to the stock firmware!
Bolt.
When you start odin, do not touch any of the left side settings. Repartition should not be ticked in your case. If successful, it will have default apps and yellow triangle will be gone. (PDA option is also correct)

Thanks for the quick reply!

EDIT: AHAHAH forget that. I'm such a dumbass. It's just gone 12 which means my phone is in quiet mode and doesn't vibrate. Told you I was a noob.

Can You Please Help Me On My Samsung GS2 Problem?

I need to flash a modem to my Samsung Galaxy S2. The history of the problem is on this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1841440&page=4.
Karpfenhai gave a solution and I quote:

If you are not yet rooted, you need Odin to flash the modem.bin.
You can also instal an update.zip via default system recovery, but it may be hard to find a compatible zip for that.
To stop your confusion, Odin 1.84 plus Samsung kies (for the drivers) are your best attempt to get the phone working again.
Read read and read to learn how to do so.

I would say you simply need to flash a new modem to your device.
You can do this by Odin too, no root needed, no custom ROM or kernel.
Have a look onto the galaxy s2 shipped modem collection thread. --> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1131950
I recommend kh3 or ki4 modem.
Good luck!
PS: missing IMEI is just a side effect of the missing modem, don't worry it will come back.

The problem is I can't find Odin 1.84. Can I use Odin 1.85 instead?
Also KH3 and KI4 no longer exist, can't download them.
Can you please give me a better alternative to flash a modem to my Samsung Galaxy S2 to make it working again.
I will be very thankful to you. Please help me. Thank you so much.

first and foremost u have to learn on XDA is to fallow the rules ma8
since creating multiple threads for the same reason/issue is against XDA rule, and if the same is reported to the moderators, u will be infracted for sure
so bare this in mind and do not do the mistake in the future
now coming back to ur query, Yes u can use 'ODIN 1.85' instead of 1.84

[Q] Cannot reset phone

Help for noobeeee pleeeease.
I've read lots of posts on this, but I am not that experienced. So I am asking for easy to follow instructions.
Basically, my phone will not reset. I go thru the options, but when the phone reboots, nothing has changed.
There is one error msg when it goes thru the reboot:
Can't access to '/system/csc/ATT/system/
It as if it does not accept any changes. If I erase an app, reboot, the app is back again.
Any help is appreciated. Again, please do not send me to other threads that have instructions to root, reflash, etc....I need easy steps.
Also, I have a MAC. Thanks.
So you've read a lot of posts, and haven't grasped the meaning of them yet. Since I wrote some of the main guides, I don't know if my answers here will be any more understandable to you.
You will need to provide more information before I can tell what the problem is and make suggestions. What does the following mean? For instance, how exactly are you trying to reset the phone? What options are you referring to.

This probably means that you are not rooted and are trying to remove protected files, or it may mean that you are rooted and trying to remove protected files while the file manager is in read only state.

Hold all three buttons, vol- vol+ and pwr until the splash screen appears the second time, then release the buttons. Phone will boot into recovery. It should say 3e recovery, which is the recovery that comes with the stock firmware. In recovery select the "wipe data/factory reset" option. The phone will reboot.
This wipe data/factory reset process basically removes all information from the /data partition, and returns it to factory default state. All user installed applications and personal settings will be gone, and the phone will be essentially like it was when new.
If you have gone through this exact procedure and not gotten this exact result, then there is something strange going on.
Please do the above exactly as described, and also confirm that the recovery you have says "3e recovery."

Go to the Download Repository (see my signature) to find the various versions of stock. For stand alone Odin, you want a .tar file. You can also download the Odin3 v1.85 package from a link there.
How to use stand-alone Odin3 to flash firmware:
Follow and recheck each of the following steps. Do them in order listed, as some steps are dependent on previous steps. Instructions are for Odin3 v1.85. It should work with any version of Odin, but some details, like color of items, may be different.
1.) Open Odin on the Windows Desktop.
2.) Have the USB cable plugged into USB port on the computer, but *Not* plugged in to the phone.
3.) Shut the phone off.
4.) While holding down the vol+ & vol- keys, plug micro-usb plug into phone.
5.) In Odin, you should get the yellow box under where it says ID:COM with the text 0:[COMx], and in the Message area, <ID:0/00x> Added!! where x is some number, usually 1-8.
6.) In Odin, make sure Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time are checked and all other items are not checked.
7.) Click on the PDA button. Browse to the tar file you want to install and select it so its path appears in the text edit box next to the button.
8.) Make sure the check box next to the PDA button is checked.
9.) Click the Start button.
10.) You should see the green progress bar advancing.

Oh. Sorry, I forgot you mentioned that. No this is for Windows PC.
You can most likely flash from a Mac using the Heimdall command line tool. It is not as straight forward. Can you get access to a PC to do this? That would be somewhat easier for you since the learning curve is not as steep.

No. You don't want the secondary boot loader.
Download from the "I777UCKH7-CL503881 Stock Binaries" section and choose the second item, "I777UCKH7-CL503881 FULL tar.md5"
Flash that in Odin just as it is. You don't have to remove the md5 extension. This is 2.3.6, the same version you have on the phone.

You can download the 7z archiving program for free and use that to unzip the archive. http://www.7-zip.org/

You need to have the "Samsung usb driver for mobile phones" installed on the pc. I don't know windows 8, but if you find it listed in the place where you can uninstall programs then it is installed. If it is not installed, go to this page on the Samsung website and find the download at near the bottom of the page.
When the driver is installed, go back to the post where I gave the directions for flashing. In step 7, you select the .tar.md5 file just as it is to put into the pda slot.

This is your step 1:
1.) Open Odin on the Windows Desktop.
What is odin? the Samsung driver? There is nothing on the desktop for odin or the driver. I installed the driver. What do i start up?

Well, I got Odin. Ran everything as described. Odin top right says "PASS". In bottom pane says ' all threads completed (succeed 1 / failed 0)
BUT THE PHONE IS EXACTLY AS IT WAS BEFORE!!!!!
What is happening?
Try rooting using Framaroot.apk and install CWM recovery and try using its data factory reset and dalvik and cache wipe. Or a kernel cleaner of some sort.

If your phone was stock before and you just flashed a stock ios its going to look the same. Its as if it came out of the box from the store.
If you want a custom ROM you need to root your device and flash a custom ROM

Is my phone screwed?

Hi guys, sorry if this has been discussed but I'm overwhelmed by everything here.
Basically, my friend did a favor for me by flashing my Samsung s2 and installed the Jellybean operating system. Now In the process of selling it I did a factory reset, I'm guessing I deleted some files and now it won't boot, just resets after the intro screen.
I don't know anything about how flashing works, so I don't know what I can install or do to fix this. All I know is I can enter "Ƨlockworkmod recovery v4.0.1.4" and there is no update.zip.
Also, I'm not certain but I think the phone doesn't read the microsd if that's relevant. Thanks!

Hey axl617 ,
I guess its better you install a new latest ROM... as your a newbie i'll write down the instructions for you
Read the Intro & Download ODIN:
http://www.andromint.com/download-odin-latest-version/
Download the latest firmware (4.1.2) of your region from SamMobile
http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/1/
INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Extract the odin file from the zip (DON'T BOTHER THE 2 PIT FILES INSIDE)
2. Put your device in download mode. To do so, press vol- down while pressing the power button and the home button.... you will see a different screen with a picture of an android... press volume- up to continue. Connect your phone to the pc
3. Open odin
4. You should see a yellow rectangle with COM:xx and saying ready. It means that your device is ready to be flashed!
5. Extract the files from the downloaded ROM
6. Go into the PDA section and take your .tar file which you have just extracted.
7. Ensure that re-partition at the left is UNCHECKED!!
8. Press the flash button
9. When it's finished, it should say that it's done with a green box and your device should reboot by itself
Let me know if there is any doubts or clarifications
Regards

Hey thank you so much! Seems pretty simple. I will have to wait till I'm not using a mac to try it out
What you need is to wipe dalvik along with factory reset.
Wanna go back to stock? Mobile Odin is your app of choice.
It's a good thing you're overwhelmed by all the info here at xda, it will make you search, read and learn.
@ksjd No need to spoon feed, you're not actually helping the guy.

Hey @gastonw ,
And im really new to this forum... I do know a lot of things about android.... im here to learn more and gain more experince... im really sorry for the solution I had written... I actually wanted to write many things but I directly skipped to flash a ROM which was a mistake. And I had written the instructions as he was newbie.
Thanks for pointing out my mistake I dint realise tht
any update?
@axl617 did you make any progress with your situation?
If wiping dalvik alone doesn't help,
I usually wipe data, wipe cache and dalvik, that resolves any bootloops.

I get what you did and why, i'm only saying that the best way for him to take care of his device is to read and learn about what is happening with his device, without the need to post a Q looking for a solution that's already out there.
