Much better than the 4G? Someone...anyone?
a little too early to tell i would imagine.. i can let you know tomm
but kinda hard to compare it to my evo since i rooted the phone as soon as i could... spend a year with the phone rooted
so of course, the phone was better than a stock evo
i dont think this should be bad, as long as you turn your data off and all those other things you can do to save batt.
of course, at 1st everyone will be playing with the phone, so its hard to say but with normal use it should last as a phone like thing should.. smartphones have never been known for their batt
Ive had it on since I got it and its still alive
Battery life is a lot better than the stock Evos for sure. It is a lot better than the reviews you've been reading, or comments about it for that matter.
For know battery is great for me. But i can really tell you tomorrow if the phone still alive after work!
My bet is that they aren't regular Sprint users and don't see the "4G on" button as some sort of suicide switch like we do....they get sent a review phone to review.
Then they rag on Wimax for a while neglecting that it's in fact a relatively more robust protocol and it's the frequency involved that causes the horrible signal propagation characteristics Sprint/Clear's WiMax has become known for...
...and then they applaud Sprint for getting on board the LTE bandwagon, even though most (who understand) consider it the lesser protocol....even though Sprint's LTE will be high frequency and just as ****ty (or ****tier) as WiMax.
...WiMax with Verizon's LTE frequencies would be amazing...ahem....in theory, of course.

lol My EVO 4G was root it as well LMAO Good catch
Looks good so far. I have been using it heavily, youtube, spiderman , camera/video, etc... and I am only at halfway. I didn't charge it before I started using it so I am not sure where it was when it I started.
seems decent, was at home when I got off work. charged it to full been using heavy and still at 85% after 3 hours with Bluetooth,WiFi,gps off and hourly sync of fb twitter pulse and push gmail.

I've been texting, youtube 3d, watching green hornet, xda, with WiFi on and it just now took a notch away from my battery and I've been doing all this for +2 hours. Personally for my level of usage vs my old EVO I can already tell a major difference in the battery.

The jury is still out for me.
I took it off the charger at 6:00 (EST) this morning. Sent about 12 text messages, checked facebook, checked twitter (then closed app), did a few minutes of web browsing, listened to a downloaded podcast on my car radio via bluetooth (~45 minutes), wifi has been off, 4G off, bluetooth off after I got to work, and i'm at 70% right now.
EDIT: Forgot to add I use Push gmail and push active exchange from work set to "as mail comes in" on M-F 7a-7p then it switches to once every 30 minutes.
Did you guys calibrate the battery with the charge technique 8hours on 1 hour off and turn on two minutes then turn off and charge for another hour

Is anyone's battery really bad? I woke up to the battery at 830am est at 80%. I took 2 3d pictures and use trillian for about 30mins. My 4g gps and wifi are off and tuned 3d off after taking the 2 pictures. I'm sitting at about 60% and it's only been about 2 hours. Not sure if it's just my phone and if i should exchange it.

Where do I check for this info. This is what my battery usage looks like right now:
4 hours on battery:
Display: 83%
Cell Standby: 5%
BeyondPod: 3%
Phone Idle: 3%
Android OS: 3%
Mediaserver: 2%
Bluetooth: 1%
EDIT: Just saw this:
Uptime: 11:57
Awake Time: 9:46
If I'm reading this right, the phone only slept for 2 hours last night? Is this normal?
Mine has been wonderful. Can't put it down... So my awake time is high. I think there is wake lock issue with facebook for HTC friend stream syncing. I don't use it now, but noticed it yesterday. Apps that were battery hogs on my 4G are not so bad on the 3D.. like word with friends.

I was getting insanely bad battery life, I lost about 50% within 30 minutes. This is what I did to fix it, I applied the OTA (still was getting bad battery life) then I did a factory reset on my device and let it charge all the way up to 100% over night. So far I've had it off the charger for almost 2 hours, haven't really been using it a lot but I've lost only 4% in 2 hours. I can really tell a HUGE improvement.
i let mine charge all the way plus some then took it off the charger and starting messing with it.
as my previous post...ive been texting and doing calls rather heavy while having wifi on and i took it off the charger around 530 600 am and its now 2 here and im at half or so.
the battery is doing well for me. also this thing charges so damn quick.
I have been dying to get this phone for weeks, but every review I see posted has bad news about the battery. I'd really love to hear some real world numbers to see if this phone could work for me. I really need to get through 'til late evening, and I need to be able to make 1.5-2 hrs of voice calls per day. Am I dreaming?
What is your experience?
Thanks for responding - I really appreciate your input!
My first real day with my Amaze
Woke up at 6 am EST. Went to the in-laws and usewd my phone to check traffic to ATL Hartsfield. Checked a few more times while texting and checking a few notifications. Get on plane. Airplane mode. Play some angry birds and teeter. try to figure out what all these widget things are all about since I am new to Android. Get to Chicago. Walk about 4 miles through the city snapin pics (see amazing photos thread) Stopped and ate at a resturant. More facebook, text email. Back to where we are staying and it just turned yellow. Not too bad if you ask me considering it was only yellow and I have juice defender for 25% or lower. I could have gone couple hours longer normal use.

I noticed in your other thread that you were getting 19 hours - what is your usage pattern like? Also, why is wifi calling an issue - I thought that this had it. Not a deal breaker, but I'd love it for calling home when I'm overseas.
Simply put, from 100 - 0% battery...I haven't hit 7 hours yet (4.5-6.8 hours). That's on moderate-heavy use.
I've now gone through three cycles and will begin to use the device "normally" this coming week. Let's just say I'll be hanging onto my blackberry bold 9780 for travels or times when I know i wont be near a charger for a day. This is one of those - plug in at the office - kind of phones. haha.
Turning off 4g would help, as well as GPS.
I expect once I go back to my Android ways (I've been spoiled by BlackBerry battery life) I can push past 12 hours on this phone.

Hour and a half plane ride.... Got back close to 4 probably.
no major testing but i charged both of my devices to 100% Evo and Amaze. took them off the charger at 1am didn't touch them until 7 am and the Evo went down to 75% and the Amaze 73%. the Evo is rooted ad the Amaze is of course stock.
I have 3 gmail accounts on automatic sync as well as an exchange account set to push delivery. also a news and Facebook widget set to sync every hour.
Yesterday I watched my battery life carefully. I went 8+40 before the first battery warning at 29%. It went an hour and 10 minutes more to yellow at 19%. Then finally turned red after a total of 13+10. I would characterize my usage as light. I listened to an .mp3 while getting ready, did a little messaging. got maybe 20 emails during the day. Had a few short phone calls. Responded to an email from work. Downloaded and installed an app from thre Market. Watched a few short Youtube videos, etc. I have four email accounts, three of which push to the phone. Since I might need to respond to an emergency from the office, I can't see normally letting my phone go below 30%, so that means I have about 8 and a half hours of light use. I was really hoping for more.
As soon as we get root we will have wifi calling. That's if we don't get an OTA with that sooner.
Mine gets horrible battery life when I use it. But when it is on standby its almost crazy how little it actually seems to use.

Lol. That's about right.
For those of you having terrible battery life I suggest going to the market and downloading juice defender and juice plotter. I took my phone off the charger today around 6:15 am and it’s now 1:05am and I still have 26% battery remaining. That is with moderate use and a short 15 minute charge through a computer usb. I took about 8 calls averaging 5 minutes a call, one was 7, watched two YouTube videos, sent 11 text messages, played a game for about 5 minutes wasting time, checked a couple of my posts on xda 3 or 4 times, as well as using the weather app frequently (I’m in Florida and we've been getting hammered with rain!) O... and most of the things that required connectivity my phone was connected to Wi-Fi. With the correct profiles and settings enabled it should increase battery life considerably, and if you have root, even more so!! Been using it with my old g2 and myt4g, and now Amaze!!
So for anyone who has one, had is the battery life? How many hours of use? Thanks
Bob

sucks about the non-removable battery...
at least there's still the possibility of some sort of external battery device that'll connect to it's USB port.
my 2c
Mine is on its third charge, and its still getting better
charge overnight via AC,
unplug at 8am for a full workday
2 push email accounts with up to 100 emails a day (1 gmail, 1 exchange)
whatsapp messages all day
bluetooth on in the car for 2 hours a day
bit of browsing and RSS reading thru the day
10 minutes of calls
end of work day ~ 40%.
get to 20% at about 10pm
so enough to get thru a work day, if you need to go out at night, get a car charger or similar.

Very good and detailed information. Thanks!
if the battery goes that quickly with such minimal use, i'd be screwed big time. with my current setup(thunderbolt - no razr here till Friday) I have a 4500mAh extended battery + a 5000mAh external power pack(9500mAh total) I easily blow through that in less then a day.
I am a heavy data user though. constant HQ audio streaming, downloading, video streaming, etc. around 30GB/month on a slow month.

hahaha, you do sound like a real heavy user, I dont have time to stream anything as I'm replying to the 100 push emails in an average work day!
Ps. My screen on time would be higher than most due to the typing.
I'm an average user, don't stream much at all. Granted, it's only the first day, but I charged this baby up and have been using it nonstop for email, web, and text for close to 5 hours and I'm at 50%. Played a couple of short videos as well.
As I said, it's the first charge so I assume the life will get better over the next couple of days. But so far so good.
To the guy who burns through nearly 10,000 MaH a day, there's no reason in the world you should get a phone without a removable battery!!!!

2 days with it now, getting better day after day... Smart Actions really a big add to the battery life.. On the first day, with out smart actions, It was over for 22 hours with good usage of internet/calls/display/music streaming from motocast etc..
And the next day, I have done some settings on smart actions, already 25 hours over, I still have 30% left though the same way I have used it on the first day... So, Thumbs-up Guys.... I expect it for another 4-5 hours as such we get it for 30 hours... That is better than any phone right now in the markret.. Smart Actions is the magic...
horrible battery life
I might be taking mine back. I've had it off the charger since 8:30AM, it is now 1:30 and the battery is at 30%. This is very unacceptable to me, especially since I really haven't done anything on it today. I really like the phone, but I can't have it charging all day.

I've been off the charger for 4 hours and 15 minutes, and I'm at 70%, with moderate use and no smart actions, with a mix of 4G, 3G, and Wifi (it switcehs between 4G and 3G a lot). I'm satisfied with those numbers, especially considering I'm upgrading from an Incredible.
I'd give it an understandable amount of battery life credit. Nothing spectacular but not bad either. This is compared to my sgs2.

Anyone else getting poor battery life with their Razr? I cannot go a full day without recharging at some point. I need a phone to last at least 16 waking hours, so I can recharge at night.

I'm actually getting pretty good battery life compared to what I've read so far... Though it wasn't 16 hours, I DID get almost 12 out of it yesterday with pretty heavy usage all day.
I highly suggest using the task managers auto end feature. It'll turn off any apps you set it to after 2 minutes. Fast Reboot is also a very good friend of mine. Though I haven't set any yet, I've played with Smart Actions, and I think with some tinkering, it'll work wonders as well!

JuiceDefender with root, AOSP helper, and a manual setup is extremely helpful. The data disable override feature should be on as well.
Make sure in-pocket detection is OFF, as well. It kills the battery really really quickly.
As far as smart actions.... Just turn on the premade battery extender and nighttime battery extender. And data off on screen off.
Lastly, screen filter from the market helps a lot.
I got a full day and 2 hours of use today on Wi-Fi. I'm sure on 3G I could get 20ish hours, and on 4G I could get 15ish.
Mine is great. I got my phone yesterday so it isn't fully calibrated yet but it still last very good.
I've found that the the biggest drainer for me is being in an area where 4g/3g is flip flopping alot. Other than that, phones got amazing battery life. Especially on wifi.

Turn all haptic(vibration) feedback off. i get about 20 hours on 4g, all apps in auto end list, i don't have any BS apps that like to run randomly, not synced with my fb,twitter, g+(have my laptop all day so no point), brightness is about 30%, smart actions usually kill my batt faster for some reason, gps is on, timeout is 30 seconds. I text a lot, and about 2hours of phone calls perday

Put the power control widget on your home screen.
Set brightness to minimum or lowest setting that you can use well.
Use wifi whenever possible. Turn. Off new network notifications.
Turn off animations.
Use a simple, mostly black wallpaper.
Turn off auto data sync.
Since I'm around wifi all day I can easily go 12 hours without a charge and have plenty of battery left. 4g is a total power hog.
If you're outside you might want to buy the power pack... good luck!
I think typical android battery life for a normal use will be varies from 6~20 hrs depending on the way u use and what you use.
when running only data/wifi when i need it(off data/wifi when not using), i can get more then 20hrs. if i on data all the time, i can get 8~10hrs with with some facebook, emails and lite web sufing. i will get 4~6 hrs on heavy use on gaming, video and music.
but u need smart action, task killer and ti backup to really optimize the battery life.

battery life is a hard problem for android device for a long time.
but i can use some trips, for example.
1. using the task managers, it can kill some app that you used.
2. using the app called province electricity king or the same function app.
3. turn off the back-data auto sync

My Razr has a very good battery life after a few cycles of charging and discharging.
I want to test a theory guys. Anyone else who feels they want to be a part of this feel free.
This is what I want to do. I want to test the actual draw of the screen in a normal days use over 2 days. The first day set to ~25%, the second day set to 75%. What I want to see is how many minutes at those brightness the screen was on. And the difference in the usage on the battery on those 2 days.
You don't have to be dead on with your estimation of time the screen was on, but try to be within a few minutes. If there isn't much of a difference then I believe the screen actually is pulling power while "off" and killing our battery unnecessarily fast.
There is no reason on 12 hours of battery, with screen on less than 30 minutes total that it should consume 65% of the battery! I don't actually see my battery drain 65% right before my eyes while it is on, so something has to be happening behind the scenes.
Edit 1: Post a screenshot of your results from both days. Tell me what connection type you used through the day. What ~% your screen was set to on both days. I only need the screen percentage changed, as long as everything else is consistent it is irrelevant to this test.
Day 1 do a low 20-30% brightness, day 2 do a high 65-75% brightness.
Edit 2: I just realized that when under battery use you can click the specific process (here being Display of course) and it will give you the exact amount of time used by the screen. If you guys could, please post both screenshots, as well as give me the accurate amount of time the display used battery.

I don't know if you ever had the original Dinc (I see an Inc 2 in your sig) but on stock ROM that phone constantly reported 60%+ Display usage no matter what you were doing, even lightly used. I crank my brightness down to like 20% permanently. I don't use it outside, so I don't need it super bright. Did it on the Dinc, and I'm doing it with the Rezound. Usually see display around 30-40% unless I'm using it heavily.
And it's not consuming 65% of the entire battery, that is 65% of the total drain is attributed to the display. SO if your battery has gone from 100 to 90% in 30 minutes, and 65% of that is display, your display has drained 6.5% of the total battery.
This is why I said over a day dude. I didn't say tell me what it says right now. If you don't want to be involved in the experiment don't bother posting in this thread. That goes for everyone. I stated 65% of the total consumption. If you really think I am an idiot don't waste mine or your time posting because you will just piss me off and I will report your posts.
If you had read the post correctly you would understand that I get 12 hours or less of battery life while only using the screen for maybe 30 minutes out of that 12 hours. Yet it reports 65% of the consumption is due to the screen even on 20% brightness. Theoretically that means I should be able to use my phone screen for 30 minutes straight and should be able to watch my battery drain 65% in that 30 minutes, which it does not. Therefor there is something else pulling power either stating it is the screen, or the screen is drawing power when off.
Hostility unwarranted. I misread your post, simple explanation.
I'll try cranking my brightness up and see what I get over a day of moderate use, how about that to make up for it?
Lol, Sorry man, I haven't seen you post here before. There are so many members who just post to post. Everyone has their 2 cents, you know what I mean
Appreciate it though!
I'm willing to try this. I'd have to start tomorrow. I also have a few basic questions.
1. How are you estimating time screen is on? Is there a way to do it other than just me paying attention? Cuz that's hard for me.
2. Does that stats page need to be reset at the beginning of each day? Also, where the hell is that thing? I've been to every setting on this phone exploring it and then when I want to find something again I can't!
3. Does it matter what power mode the phone is in?
And I was thinking to add to the test it might be interesting to see what having the screen on "automatic" would do.
1. I don't know of a surefire way, if someone else knows let us know! Otherwise, just a rough estimate is fine 30 mins ~35 minutes really. As long as you don't overshoot too much.
2. You don't need to reset the stats, they do it automatically after being on the charger for an extended period. So if you charge overnight and take it off it will only show from when the phone was disconnected. Settings >About Phone > Battery >Battery Use.
3. Power mode should have no relevance. But I am using "normal".
You're going to have to specify if WiFi or 4g/3g is to be used. I have noticed over the past few days that 4G consumes roughly 1.5-2%/hour less battery than WiFi does. On my Dinc, WiFi would draw a lot less power over time than 3G, but not so with the Rezound. So now I leave it on 4G while it sits idle at work unless I need to download something big, in which case I'll switch to WiFi, even though I have unlimited data and technically don't need to care lol. But I found that with WiFi and 4G both on and WiFi connected, my phone was burning like 5.5% per hour of battery. With 4G on only, I'm going through ~2.5% per hour (these are both with the phone sitting idle, usually in the morning when I'm busy at work). That's pretty much what my Dinc was doing on Wifi. I'll have to try it sometime with WiFi only on, and 4G off to see what happens.
But regardless, please specificy WiFi or 4G. Any testers that volunteer for this will need to leave that connection on as their sole connection during the duration of the test, save for a few mins of variance here and there.
Doesn't seem that should affect how much power the screen itself uses though. He just wants to test screen battery usage, not overall battery usage.
EDIT: Oh, if we are talking percentages then yes, it would matter. I generally leave my phone on 4g unless it decides to turn it off. And I switched to wifi a bit ago since I was required to to download an app from Amazon.

You are describing exactly the opposite of my experience with 4G vs WiFi battery consumption.
Hmm, interesting. Maybe I just have really good 4G signal? I too thought it was weird, given my experience with the Dinc being exactly the opposite of the Rezound. Trust me, I'd love to know why it happens that way too lol. But again, I shouldn't care because I have unlimited data, and the 4G is faster than the WiFi here at work and about as fast as my home connection (I average on the lower end of the 4G scale, about 10-15Mbps), so I'll probably just leave it on 4G for now unless I'm at home and need to FTP to my laptop or something.
And feralicious, I agree to an extent, but to get truly accurate results we at least need to know what X person was using for data over Y person, since both connections will draw power at a different rate. The only other accurate way to do it would be to keep the phone in airplane mode. And since he's using approximately 5% per hour of battery, whereas I'm using 2-3%, maybe he's on Wifi where I'm on 4G. As in any testing you need to have a control along with the variables, and the data connection is a big variable that could easily be made a control. Just my $.02

Yeah, I just realized that and edited my post, didn't see you had responded.
For the record, 4g seems to pull more power than wifi for me as well.
Just post a screenshot of your results, tell me the amount of time your screen was on, and what your primary connection was. This is the only info I need. Your connection will only minutely affect the percentage that the screen draws. I only want to know the difference between screen high and screen low. So long as everything else is consistent on your end your results should be accurate for what I need.
Looks like I have to extend it out a day. I set my phone to 75% brightness and go figure it is the day that the network is having outages. My battery lasted ~2 hours today doing nothing.
Wow. 2 hours?!?! Will start the official test tomorrow as well but for the record my screen was also at 75% and I got almost 10hrs and I texted, shopped for and played with apps and watched a few app videos. I turned on wifi for a few hours due to network outtage.
Posting results even though they're not considered official. My screen was on approximately 1-1.5hrs in my estimation.

lol I woulda been in the same boat, if I didn't have a coworker alert me that 4G was out. I hadn't looked at my phone all morning, and woulda had a dead phone from it constantly looking for a 4g signal.

Ditto!! I get way better life with wifi!!
As for the OP, good luck! I do not have time but I am interested in the results!

I had no idea, my phone was in my pocket and I was busy all day. Never felt it ever get warm, pulled it out of my pocket when I had some down time to check my G+/FB/Twitter and BAM.. phone wouldn't turn on. Luckily a friend had a charger and let me hook up. Turned on the phone to see the battery had actually died. I took it off the charger at 11:30 and it was dead before 2.

Thanks, I will be trying high brightness again tomorrow.
I couldn't get a reliable test because I had a stupid setting left over from my experiment with Economy mode that turned WiFi off after 15 minutes, so my data is skewed a bit from the first day to the second. (Plus the roving 4G outages caught me last night and my battery went from full to 5% overnight.)
Also, I use an app called SystemPanel (bought the Pro version) which gives me nice plots of my usage and screen on time, if you're interested in more data like that, you could look into it.
I just realized last night if you click the process in the battery use window that it will show the time that process uses power. Soooo.... I need everyone to start from scratch and give me the accurate amount of time the screen shot is on, for both dim and bright settings. Sorry guys! OP updated.
