Looked through quite a few pages and haven't seen this asked. Unfortunately I can't put up with the call problems of the Gnex. I just use my phone too much for work. Was considering getting the s 3 under warranty replacement if they allow it. Does anyone know if can be rooted and unlocked?

What part of no one has this phone yet do you not understand? How can it be rooted or unlocked when Samsung hasn't released one yet? Have you not been following how tightly Samsung has been keeping these things under wraps??

Good luck getting the S3 as a warranty replacement because its not going to happen, the phone hasn't been released no one has one to mess with or anything so as of now it is unknown. If it was rooted I'm sure it would have been posted already all over different forums

Yeah guys/girls at Verizon stores are stupider than my door knob, example went in to the store today to get a 4G LTE sim card for my thunderbolt that's been sitting in my night stand and now my sister wants to use and the lady and guy both working said that not only I needed to bring the device in but now there's a fee for the sim card :what:
I attempted to get the S3 as a replacement and from my understanding the only way it would be possible is if there was a certified like new device available.

First of all, the phone has already been released in Europe and parts of Asia for some time. Second, a while back somebody leaked the official samsung software rom for the S3, and hackers made quick work of it and had a root method within a day (http://www.ubergizmo.com/2012/05/samsung-galaxy-s3-rooted-stock-rom-leaked/). If you google "samsung s3 root" you will find lots of pages telling you how to root. Here's one example of such a site: http://theunlockr.com/2012/05/26/how-to-root-samsung-galaxy-s3-smartphone/
I know people are saying that you cannot get a S3 as a replacement but in my situation they did give me an early upgrade to a RAZR Maxx. I had to pay 200 for it but I at least got a phone with good signal. I asked about the S3 as an option and the csr said I could if I was willing to wait. I had another upgrade coming so I had already preordered the S3. My wife is getting the RAZR MAXX and she is thrilled.

from what i've heard all of us in north america (canada, America, will get the exact slab of hardware, Also at&t's source was just released tonight so sit tight maybe by the end of this week its gonna be rooted!)
Here is proof that phones get rooted before release all the time. ATT, Sprint, and T-Mobile S3s' all have been rooted before anyone has the phone. I'm sure that Verizon's is just around the corner.

Surprised no one has mentioned it yet, but as far as I can tell, Verizon isn't lying about CarrierIQ not being on their phones, at least not the Rezound.

Haven't seen ANYONE with a Verizon Android device find it yet, but I would love to hear if any do. I'm new to Verizon, so I don't have a whole lot of trust in them yet and want to know if they're lying to us.
They may bake in their own variant or have another way of tracking, I don't want to speculate, but it isn't on my phone either.

My guess is this is likely for the international version. For the ATT version I would suggest ICS will take 2-3 more months to arrive. ATT does not know the meaning of moving quickly.

I think we have to hope for CM9, tbh. Samsung is definitely making good progress on ICS for international Note and GS2, but these devices (AT&T Note and Skyrocket) are both gated by AT&T, and running completely different hardware. I had an Infuse for a while, which got gingerbread from AT&T at the end of January. Hopefully that is not indicative of the delay we'll see for ICS on the Note, but I'm not holding my breath--I have literally no faith in AT&T's ability to deliver updates in a timely manner.
Like Dave said, it's probably for the international version. Although my guess would be that you might be able to upgrade it anyway

Both AT&T and Verizon appear to be equal in almost every aspect in my area( Coverage, cost of the plan I need, subsidized phone cost), so that leaves the 1 question that really matters:
Which is easier both to root, and even more importantly, unroot to the point I can still use my warranty?

My man! This is discussed countless times here already . You should search before posting. You can only unlock your bootloader if your device was on 2.3.4 or 2.3.5 shipped. If you have applied 2.3.5 update OTA, you cannot unlock your bootloader. There is no other way to install ICS or JB ROM without unlocking the bootloader.

It's not up to the devs. The OTA 2.3.5 encrypted the bootloader with a signed private key that only Motorola has access too.
If you want your bootloader unlocked, complain to Motorola. Start following the Support My Moto campaign, and help us out on that front.

Guys, unfortunately if you want to flash custom roms, ur either going to have to move on to another platform, or try to find a MoPho with 2.3.4. Just accept it, this phone will be forgotten soon. Honestly, as much as I appreciate all the devs hard work, the custom roms on this phone are all lacking something, but that's not all their fault. Motorola screwed us all by cutting us out of the JB update. I think the MoPho works good out of the box. Rooting it alone is enough to make it a great phone.
I have not even been able to root my mopho since the update. Since my job will pay off the rest of my contract I am looking at a galaxy s3 or note2 through at&t. Any opinions out there? I have use Moto phones since Android came out, but this is a lame situation they put us in.

Or if u don't want to get locked into another contract, get a Galaxy Nexus and go prepaid. I just picked one up a Sprint version on eBay in perfect condition for $200. I would love to have the SIII, but this Gnex is a great phone too. I loved my MoPho, but this phone puts it to shame. Easiest root and unlock I've ever seen on a phone, and the roms are amazing. Just saw LTE speeds for the first time the other day. Incredibly fast, and I got perfect signal where I never had one before. I highly recommend the Gnex.

If the Rogers model is boot loader unlocked then the advantage of 4GLTE is considerable.
As it happens I chose the AT&T version which is boot locked for the moment but I can live with that to get the huge speed increase of 4GLTE on T-mobile. With the international versions you'll never know how good the phone is if you are in the US.

What carrier/plan do you want to use it on? If it's the TMobile $30 plan I'd suggest the AT&T model and just dealing with it. VOIP has only proven useful to me over LTE.
I have a AT&T 6 GB share plan with my wife.
For me the i9200 performed much better than the i9205. Not sure if the LTE modem on the i9205 had different firmware for camera and other things.
The i9200 had a better camera quality for me.

I agree you're probably right but I can't stand Samsung & AT&T locking the boot loader.
It's not going to be locked forever I'm just saying. I want for just as bad lol.

I got burned in my mind on my two S4's & boot loaders. I intend to avoid them like the plague till I decide to stop customizing my phones.
I wound up with the GT-I9152 accidentally. It has dual sim & 3G.

You mean that you bought/ordered the Mega 6.3 and received a Mega 5.8?

Yes, the seller accidentally sent the wrong one. I asked her to refund me the difference and she did. But I just bought another one. I have the 5.8 for sale now to make up the difference.
