Anyone missing GB yet? I love ICS, don't get me wrong but I got to say I miss GB a lot. It was a lot nicer looking and I miss the lockscreen. It also seemed a bit more stable. Your thoughts?

No, I absolutely LOVE ICS in comparison to GB. It runs much more smoother. My only issue is that the battery life seems slightly worse than it was on GB. But the thing is, every upGRADE will eventually receive an upDATE once people start complaining of various issues/bugs etc.
I actually miss the GB text messaging app. It was cleaner looking to me. I dont like pictures of myself when I type a reply and I dont really like using a 3rd party app. Might have to though...
Other than that, I am happy with the .211 update. I actually really like the new lock screen.
I don't miss anything in GB but IMO, ICS is not as exciting as some people make it out to be. I think some people will be disappointed.
I think the more I use ICS the more I love it.

I'm not on ice cream sandwich yet, but i've been looking at review after review, and see people going insane because they dont have it. They go as far as even switching phones because they didnt get the update soon enough, what is this stupidity? The phone version of ice cream sandwich looks great, as does the tablet version. However, the new webtop sucks in comparison. It seems much less useful, and it really sucks. I want to dump standard computers and use my phone as my main machine, i was one step closer to that with a ubuntu based webtop. This is frustrating.
Moved to Q&A
Well i updated to the ice cream sandwich OTA last night, and i say "updated" instead of "upgraded" because this is no upgrade. I will admit, this thing is blazing fast and super responsive, i love that. Also the camera, it is a lot better than the gingerbread one, so that's a plus. That, however, is where the positives end. I have been using Launcherpro for its calendar widget for 3 years now, and there is none that are good enough aside from that, and the damn thing crashes contantly on ice cream sandwich. Not to mention, you can't have a seperate launcher for webtop, so you're stuck with the stock sucky one, or having one built for a phone on the webtop. The webtop itself is just terrible, it's not even a tablet image, it looks like it's just a scaled up version of the one already on the phone with the tablet status bar. I used to run firefox in one window, and something else in the mobile view on the old one, can't do that anymore. From what i've seen, i cant go back either. Finally, i havent been able to get any usb mass storage devices to mount on the phone via OTG cable, but a usb mouse works just fine. Neither fat32 nor NTFS would work, even though they both work on my ice cream sandwich tablet, and are supposed to be supported. This "update" is just terrible and i have no idea how any of you can say it's so much better....
i miss ome things fro GB, but i love some of the things of ICS, it goes both ways for me. i like the loook of ics, the lockscreen, camera. hate the home screen, appdrawer (cant long press home screen for widgets), this ics is slower then my GB, smoother but slower, it does a better job at hiding lag. and the battery life on my ics is about 3-5 hours less then it was on GB. i hate how there is no google chrome for this ics version, really annoying cause i was using it on some of the other ics leaks and fell in love with it. but now its not on this ics version and by far one of the best things about ICS is webtop 3.0. GB was on 2.0 and i hated it compared to the 3.0, 2.0 was ugly and lacking customization and had poor and ugly UI. webtop 3.0 just makes me so happy.
as more updates roll out (eventually) ill be a little more satisfied with ICS
I just received a GSM XT910 Razr a few days ago, and have been holding out on even using it in hopes of the ICS update rolling out for it within the next few days or so. I'm starting to wonder if I should even bother waiting anymore and should just keep it on Gingerbread, given how much complaints I'm already reading on ICS. This is the exact same scenario with my current phone, an Sony Xperia Arc...the ICS update did NOT do it any favors and there's been widespread reports of ICS being incredibly laggy on it. I ended up deciding to leave my Arc on Gingerbread.
It's ironic how everybody's been making ICS sound like it's an absolute must-have for months upon months now, and yet when it's finally released, it seems like such a botched job for most phones thus far. I know somebody with a T-mobile Galaxy SII that got their ICS update only to find all sorts of problems with it as well. I think the bottom line is, unless you're running a Nexus device, ICS is nothing to write home about.
If I hear about any more possible delays to an ICS update for the unlocked XT910, which it's starting to look more and more like what will happen, I may very well just forget about ICS and stick to Gingerbread...
me me me..!
i miss BEATS AUDIO plugin..!
is there any way to port it in ICS???
ICS has gotten way more hype than it deserves, but it is a major improvement over GB. I like the look much better, although there are a couple of things I wish MOTO had incorporated, like power toggles on the pull down notification and the accurate battery.

Hello ive brought the motorola atrix and i think its great but im afraid it has some flaws. Using a live wallpaper with golauncher gets everything laggy, the browser speed is awful. In somethings its lightning fast in others its even slower than other weaker phones. Im using the at&t atrix with the latest OTA update. Ah i forgot mention the touchscreen bug in games so called raindrop protection. I want to know if other roms like cyanogen mod would fix this issues. Because i cant believe they say that tegra 2 is better than an ipod touch 4g and in browser its slower. And will atrix ever recieve ice cream sandwich? Official or not? And i would be able to use webtop on cyanogenmod? Thanks!

I'll try and answer some of these questions.
1) You should try using a custom kernel first of all, you should notice a huge difference in speed
2) Try using dolphin browser hd or opera browser and im sure your browsing experience will be much better
3) The atrix will receive ice cream sandwich for sure. Motorola is bound to release it for the atrix if it comes out before next july (which it will) as per the google handset agreement. The only way the atrix could not get ICS is if the hardware didn't allow for it. But the hardware on the atrix is better than the nexus S, and since that is getting ICS we are guaranteed our update.
4) Webtop on cm is being worked on
Thanks for the reply, ive been using dolphin and it is faster indeed. But yet not even close to ipod one. About the custom kernel can you point me to some instructions how to install it? Which relation it has with a custom rom? Thanks

iphone and windows phone have hw acceleration. makes for better browsing and smoother everything. helps tremendously with battery too. hardware acceleration is something android is severely missing. let's hope ics brings it. it would breathe new life into even older phones.
Did the guys at google said sonething about it? I was hoping a stretch to fit feature so games with lower resolution would fit nicely and work too in bigger phones like atrix. I miss order & chaos so much :/

I came from an iphone 4 and I love the ATRIX,
Then again I had many tweaks running lol but anywho try a custom rom, its like owning a whole mother phone now
I came from a Trash Zte Racer and an ipod touch 4g, and atrix is like the sum of their good parts. but in comparison to ipod touch i miss the game compability, display detail and speed =/ i dont think android is ugly nor "not usser friendly". its very intuitive too. ill try opera mobile. to see what it says, i just hope ICS brigs all those cool features plus the Android 3.0 and 3.1 features. I hope it be as tasty as a Real Ice Cream Sandwich. I was thinking abou custom rom. but nobody told me the diference of a custom kernel and a custom rom. and i'd like some features of atrix like the webtop, so ill wait a bit more till the cyanogen is stabilished to move to it.
Alright, was thinking of getting the Flyer but I don't know if I would want it without an AOSP build on it. I mean it's cool, but it seems that this tablet would look beautiful with ICS or just vanilla android in general. I like sense but not enough to have a tablet with it.
So, are the devs planning any work on ICS or is it a dead cause?
I can't speak for every developer, but I don't think you will get a lot of takers to put in the vast amount of time an effort to build yet another vanilla tablet ROM when the Sense widgets and Stylus APIs add quite a bit to the Flyer and for some Sense widgets, there are no equal replacement widgets on the market. why bother, if someone doesn't want to use the Sense widgets and launcher, just don't use them, they hurt nothing in the background. And you cannot build a true working AOSP ROM anyway because you are always dependent on the hardware vendors drivers and kernel.
Just run the Flyer with ADW EX launcher or Launcher Pro if you like it better. Works fine that way.
Ill just say that I am NOT a fan of sense in general. I would never want it on a phone and run cyanogen on my evo 4g. BUT it actually works really well on the flyer. I wasn't a big fan of the sense launcher, so I'm running adw, but all of the other sense apps really add functionality to the tablet.
I'm a Rom whore on phones, but I'm still running the stock software (2.3.4) on my flyer because of works so well.
Just get a flyer and enjoy what's in my opinion the best tab available by far.

Although we do not have the strongest developer base ever. We still do have developers that do work hard for us. I'm not saying that we're going to have developers that will build ICS for us, but what I can say that it would not be a stretch to port ICS from DHD, G2/DZ, MT4G. I can say this because I have seen the GB flyer port to my G2 and it should not be hard to do it the other way around. So really we just need to wait until one of those phones gets ICS or if Cyanogen decides to build for us. We'll get it eventually it will just be a matter of when. The whole I like sense vs. I don't like sense argument does not apply here, because this is android and we will have a choice between the two. We'll most likely also get an HTC sense build of ICS from HTC, but that may take a little time.
while i am enjoying my flyer with homeycomb/sense i have to agree. as much as i love htc devices,i really hate htc sense. id very much like some sort of AOSP rom as well- it really surprised me to not see any cm7 ports,or even official cm support.
i personally dont use any sense widgets or apps. simply running a different launcher doesnt get rid of sense. you still have sense contacts, keyboard, email, etc. sure you can get 3rd party apps for all those things, but that makes the appready huge footprint of the sense rom even bigger.
AOSP seems smoother and faster on my other htc devices, and id prefer it on my flyer as well. id like to learn how to port roms to different devices,so i could have cm7,8,or 9
I would love to see ICS make its way onto the Flyer. But with how long it's taken HTC to give us a HC update, I'm relying more on Cyanogen than anything else.
Being a guy who is seriously considering this sexy tablet myself.
I have been wondering if there would be an ICS port although an official seems unlikely.
I don't "need" a tablet, but a device to read manga on and watch videos every so often would be nice.
This is the smoothest tablet I've ever seen (I like it more than any other tablet I've seen.. including ipad 2, galaxy tab ect ect)
Decided to get nook tablet instead.

We're not talking about an OG phone here with limited memory. The Flyer has gob of memory. Sense runs great on the flyer. While It might make you "feel" better to think you are running an AoSP ROM, there's nothing that makes it perform better. I would never give up the Pen or email and other widgets that sense has that no one else has for a good feeling. It doesn't make Sense.
ICS seems to be a close relative of Honeycomb.
I am hoping that the delay in releasing HC for Flyer officially is that HC is being cancelled and work is instead shifiting to ICS.
From what I see of ICS, I would take it over HC with Sense.
My guess is that no one is working on an ICS Mod for us.
hm.. gotta agree... there is no point in getting a rom if you actually are losing functionality... kinda the opposite direction of what most people hope for.
Especially sine 2.3.4 is a pretty decent version.

I think you mean you've bought the wrong tablet.
You have to know HTC == Sense. Just don't buy HTC if you complain about Sense.
With all the ICS Alpha ports popping up these days, even on the HTC HD and such, I would not be surprised to see a repackage bootable of ICS for the Flyer soon. These came around for the Old color Nook in Honeycomb flavor, but never fully worked. The problem is they stay about about 70% working until HTC releases the ICS kernel and drivers. Nice to see how they look but things like camera, Bluetooth, video playback and phone don't work. Who knows? Maybe one of the tapped in developers can even patch together a working kernel from the current HTC source code. Since Google released the main OS source, things could get wild.
digital, you are correct, sdk ports rarely amount to anything useable and worthwhile. source code is needed to really get all the functionality.

i know htc very well. i dont ever buy a device for the software it runs, since everything i own gets rooted and ROMed. i buy htc because i like the hardware, and i like the way they "work". i bought the flyer because i like messing with htc products.
lots of folks dont understand my fondness for htc,but my dislike of sense. as i stated,im enjoying my flyer very much with sensified HC. i dont mind sense in small doses , and and if AOSP roms were available,id prolly flip flop back and forth between them. not complaining,im not wishing i hadnt bought it. all i did was agree with the OP in that i also have a strong preference for AOSP.
again, nothing wrong with liking sense. nothing wrong with not liking it either.

To each his own, but when you have a vast majority who bought this for what it is and not what it can be hacked to, you're pretty much in the minority. So if you want the latest and greatest vanilla that breaks functionality most of us want, then you better bone up on your development skills.

This article claims that the Flyer will be shown by HTC in February running ICS.
Rumor has it that, in the coming months, HTC will unveil the first tablet underpinned by the new Nvidia Tegra 3 quad-core platform. It seems that the HTC quad-core tablet will be revealed at Mobile World Congress 2012, event that takes place in Barcelona, in late February. Of course, the information is not official, bit it seems that it’s coming from a source close to the situation. Anyway, a lot of things can change in three months. At the Catalonian event, HTC will also reveal the Flyer and Jetstream models with stylus support and running on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.

Hi,
Just curious about some opinions. I have downloaded and used the ICS for Evo 3D (the version just prior to Joel's last upload), and really liked it. I especially loved the fast web browsing.
But I've been running the Xplode XE 3D by Team Nocturnal and everything on the phone works, beautiful look to it, etc.
The web browsing is not as fast, but the battery life seems better.
My question is, other than:
1. The novelty of something new
2. The desire to use the "latest"
What are some other reasons that might be argued for the superiority of ICS?

Use what you like. It's your phone, own it. Don't let us tell you what to run.
But ICS here isn't complete, so that isn't exactly a fair comparison yet. There are many many new features to ICS besides the interface. Things such as face unlock (when camera works), managing your data usage, hardware acceleration - just to name a few. Perhaps you should look up all ICS has to offer, there are tons of sources that share what's new. I can't remember everything and there's just too much to type up here.
Thank you. I wasn't looking for anyone to tell me what to run. But I WAS looking for what you gave me in your post. Just a brief set of a few reasons why one might want to go with ICS. I appreciate it.
Google "ICS vs gingerbread"

I used a nexus s for a bit with ics. The only thing I miss is the better keyboard and much better voice to text. Everything else was forgettable, and honestly the browser was WORSE because it works like the iPhone in that it zooms but doesn't reformat the text. The way it works with GB is far better.
You're not missing much with GB, I'm in no rush to get it. I just want a good AOSP ROM regardless what release it is
I absolutely adore ICS. I cant bring myself to go back to gingerbread. I think asop gb is ugly now that I've gotten used to ics, its just much prettier! Im also very happy to be rid of Android green. Otherwise I personally feel ICS is a much better OS, especially under the hood, its quick, smooth, and better thought out all around. And once you get used to the keyboard its fantastic, and the text prediction and spell check is the best I've used, i love the keyboard.

The text reflowed on my nexus one and nexus s on stock and cyanogenmod roms for 2.3, so it's definitely not just a sense thing
Reflow worked for me in ICS. I had no problems. Did you use the Chrome beta?
I actually like the look and feel of Sense on CleanRom GBE as opposed to CleanRom ICS. Anyone else feeling Gingerbread over Ice Cream Sandwich? The only things I really miss are the ICS browser with hardware acceleration, and the AOSP ICS widgets.
I'll chime in. I love ics and all it offers but everytime I restore a gb build, I'm blown away by the smoothness and speed. RezRomIcs seems the best I've tried.
So for now, gb, but I'm looking forward ics and sense 4.0 final builds.

I will agree I also like the feel of GB over ICS.
I think ICS do require a little bit of time to get used to and settle in. I have used Xoom tablet with honecomb and also ICS 4.0 before got the rezound. After playing both, I have to say, I really love the feel of ICS and I cannot wait for the rezound to upgrade.
I have an Acer Iconia Tab and when I bought it, I had ICS on my Rezound. When I played with Honeycomb finally I was disappointed by it after having used ICS. I wasn't real happy with buying the tab but after installing a leaked ICS copy on the tab I realized how much I truly enjoy ICS. I agree GB is fast and fluid, but ICS is just sexy and will be on par or better than GB once a source code is released for it. Remember the rezound doesn't officially have ICS so the developers on here do an amazing job porting and polishing the roms to play nice. Coming from an OG Droid, to a Droid X, HTC Thunderbolt and now the Rezound I can truly say that I have seen great development for Android and look forward with whats to come.
ICS all the way.
I definitely prefer ICS, but I've held off on the ROMs until the official OTA comes out. It would probably be fine, but I don't mind waiting.

With my Droid Incredible, I thought ICS was cool, but not fast or smooth enough for daily use. I feel the Rezound with RezRom 3.3 is very smooth though, I'm loving it. Hopefully the Sense 4.0 ROMs will become as fast soon.
I definitely prefer the Sense 3.6/4.0 dock to the 3.5 and earlier dock on the bottom of the screen. I love being keep a folder there with a handful of apps.
Jury is still out on my Kindle Fire though. I've tried out a couple ICS ROMs and I wish it was just a little faster.
I like elements of both. Really wish the M10 editor worked for the newer versions of sense though so we could customize lock rings and such. Got kinda spoiled.
Yeah , I am running the leaked ICS Ruu and have not had any real problems.
Phone runs fast and smooth and I really like it.
I for one can not wait for ICS, I had a great time with GB but now it's time to move on to newer and better things.

Search around and the forums and you will find a link to the OTA leak. Droid Life website had a link to it and that's where I got it.
I took it and applied it to my OG RAZR and not my MAXX since my MAXX is my everyday phone, so I wanted to stay on ICS for now (especially with tethering).
I will say this. I have seen a noticeable improvement in response, even in the stock BLUR launcher.
Games like Templerun are running smoother than they do under ICS without tweaking. Under ICS, I had to turn down or off window animations and transistions to .5 or off to get the same amount of smoothness I'm getting under JB. Under JB, I didn't have to tweak a single thing. Out of the box, the game runs smooth. Fruit Ninja was another one.
I believe this is all part of Project Butter where Google has gone and tweaked things under the hood to make the user experience much smoother and it definitely appears to be working that way under the JB leak. Otherwise, there isn't much difference. The lock screen is different, as is the status bar and a few other minor UI tweaks. But otherwise, it's ICS. I would say this update gets ICS much closer to what ICS should have been. It's an improvement, but it's more under-the-hood than it is aesthetically.
All I can say is, many doubted that JB would come to the OG RAZR and OG RAZR MAXX, but just like the Motorola update site said, it is coming. Why it was released by accident to too many people is something I don't understand, but let it be know to all the doubters, it IS coming and this is proof.
