[Q] SGS2 charged all the time - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello peopel, first of all sorry for my english.
I have a problem with my S2 - all the time he say he is charge
but he is not connected to the computer/charger.
when i do charge and i reach 100% battery, he tell me to disconnect,
so i disconnect but the warrning not going off.
he still think he is getting charged.
The battery now goes from 100% to 0% in like 3-4 hours of avarage use.
i tried new Rom/Kernel/charger/usb cable/battery
nothing helped.
Any ideas?

Two easy jump conclusions:
1. Battery needs replacement OR
2. You need to reset battery stats in CWM if you haven't done that for a long time.

You mean it is charging even though it is not connected to anything? Some people reported a problem similar to that. They just cleaned the charging port with a dry toothbrush. Maybe something is in the charging port that causes the phone is still charging. Or if you mean it is 100% all the time then this is the first time i have heard of this issue. Are you on stock rom? Are you rooted? Can you give us any further info?

as "@ephraim033" said, if the phone is saying that "is charging", but the charger isn't pluged in, you have to clean the micro usb port, because it is full of dust

[Q] Battery problems

Good evening all.
When i'm charging my battery with wall charger our pc charger. I cant fully charge to 100. Its saying fully charged but after i unplug its going down to 96 our even 65 percent. And another thing was when is was charging my battery it was at 86 and after that the battery was going downwards instead of upwards ( when in charger ). So i searched on the internet and i found a way to calibrate the battery, turn off foon let it fully charge, take battery out 180 sec and put back in and it should be calibrated. But my problem is i cant get it fully charged because its getting downwards. Even now its stuck at 81 percent and not going furter. annyone got a solotion. Thank you in advanced.
I hope you get an answer, I have had this problem before but changing ROM seemed to fix it...... Please don't ask me to many questions if any, I'm pretty sure I'm more of a noob than you

Thank you,ive tried that already. I am thinking to go back to gb and see how that works. Realy dont got a clue what else to do. And i'm completly new to this,so i'm a noob. hehe
The standard answer you will get from most people on here is "its been covered many times before."
However, I will tell you its the fuel gauge chip. Several charge-discharge cycles should correct the issue. Very common when swapping ROMs.
For example, for the hell of it, I just reset my chip and dropped from 63% to 2%. The chip kind of "learns" over time what full charge and empty is, and drifts about a bit until its fully sure what 100% and 0% are.

try rest battery history from recovery mode>>>advance
Also did that advanced wipe battery stats. Diddent seem to work out.
Thanks reverted, bij resetting the chip.
Do you mean, wiping battery stats?

I do switched allot between roms.
Resetting chip,do you mean wiping battery stats?

No, just fully charge it, then let it discharge completely, charge and repeat, it will sort out its misrepresenting charge after a couple of full charges.

I'm trying to do that, but battery wont charge completly.
Its going downwards after reaching 82 percent our even don't load. After a couple tries its charging again but not to 100 percent.
So when i reach the limit when its going down again pull out wait till its empty and try again? At a sertain point it will be charging again till 100?
Btw sorry for my bade english!

Did you try turning the phone off and then charge it? After that do some charges when the phone is on like stated above.
Yes m8 i did,and trying it again right now.
The weird thing is,when my foon is on. The battery shows like 49. And now i turned foon of,and its seems like the green battery is like 15 our something. I also did wipe battery stats again. And whent back to a stock rom.
I would buy a spare battery, you'll get an official 1 for £10 to £15, that way you have a spare and will also be able to set if your phone or battery has a fault.
With my battery I did few bump charges (replugging it back in after it says 100%) and the battery life is excellent. I don'the let it drop below 15% if I can help it.
Good luck

Problem solved i think.
Got me a new battery, charged on a wall charger (not cable) and it was showing 100 in the phone. Then i charged my origenal battery on a wall charger (not cable) And was showing 100 to in the phone.
Now i found out that my charge conector on the phone, has a bad conection.
So i think thats why it issent loading our stops loading at a sertain point.
Sending back my s2 and hope to get it back soon.
Thanks you all for the help. And have a nice day.

Charging Time

How long does it take before your batteries are fully charged?
First, need to start by stating it seems the charger that came with my S3 may need replacing, as the phone doesnt charge when I connect it. I connected my Note's charger though and it started charging.
I let my battery drain to 1% and started charging, its been 2 and a half hours and its at 47%.
Does that sound normal? My Note gets fully charged in about 3 and a half hours.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
Have you tried the original charger & cable again after you got a little juice in the battery from Note's charger? Also to determine if its charging slowly, were you using the phone for various things while it was charging??? How long has your screen been on while charging, because that is the biggest battery sucker on a Samsung device.
Just tried using the original charger and no luck. Weird thing is the S3 seems to think it.is just connected via USB as the USB connection prompt appears whenever I try to use that charger, but still doesnt charge.
Im using the Note's charger now and it is charging again.
The entire time the phone was sleeping, screen was not on.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
Sounds like either a defective charger, or a defective battery/phone. If you have a warranty, I advise exchanging your device through that method.
Thanks went to Samsung and turns out the cable is defective.
How long does it take for your S3s to fully charge coming from little to no charge?
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
I never leave mine till 1%. Usually at around 20% and it takes 4-5 hours. Is it better to leave till 1%?
Also how fast are you depleting a? Had a galaxy s and a iphone 4 before and the s3 seems too deplete a little faster.

[Q] Charging taking too long

Hi as stated my question is NOT to know how many of you experience charging that takes too long, but is there a SOLUTION for it?
I am using a desire s, it used to take 2hours 30min(from 15%-100%) but now a days it takes close to 5 hours to fully charge.
I've read many thread with similar problem but non seem to be able to find the solution.
I doubt it is battery related issue as i got this phone together with my friends and theirs has no issue like this.
I've tried :
1)full wipe
2)different rom(s)
3)different kernel
4)battery stat wipe
5)different charger(both are htc)
ps : I've post this in DesireS Q&A but did not get any solution.
How are you charging your phone: USB to PC it via wall charger? If it's taking longer than usual turn off the phone. I've found that this sped up the charge dramatically! By doing so, you can also see a battery simulation on the screen showing the charging process.
Also, if you're charging vis USB, the requirements are 5 volts from a USB connector. But the problem is amperage. Wall chargers can supply up to 1 amp (some will supply more, but you don't want more for a phone), while many computers will only supply 500 milliamps out of a USB connector. Thus the phone (battery) will charge faster with a higher amperage. If that doesn't do any good, you may have a bunk battery or some kind of hardware issue...

I am using wall charger. It seems consistent to charge slower at around 70% then speed back up at 90%. Are u sure that this is a symptoms of a spoiled battery?
To me(an accountant not a technicians) it seems like the "smart" phone is tell it to charge slower at 70%.

Same problem
I have the same problem, first when I bought my SE x10 mini pro. It charged in 1.5 hours but nw it takes about 3 hours. I don't know the reason but I'm trying to find out how to solve this problem.
I'm not entirely certain its a case of bad battery, but it does sound a bit suspicious. If you're feeling up to it, you can try this: (it's worth a shot.)
If, after rooting or more likely that case after flashing a new rom, you often have battery reporting errors and re-calibrating the battery along with some steps I will outline for you below will ensure that your battery is getting a full charge, and the battery reporting accuracy is right on.
1. Take the case off your phone (one of the latter steps involves taking the battery out from the phone while it's plugged in. Make sure your case won't stand in the way.)
2. Install Battery Calibration app from the market
3. Plug in your phone to charge while it's on, wait till it gets to a 100%
4. When the charge is 100%, open the BatteryCalibration app and lookup what the charge is in MV while at 100%. Write it down.
My Atrix 2 was showing ~3400MV while at 100%, which is definitely not the maximum capacity.
5. Discharge your phone completely until it shuts off.
A good way of doing this quickly is by turning on wifi, and a video player.
6. Without turning on the phone plug it into a wall charger and let it get to 100%
7. When it's at 100%, without unplugging it from the wall charger, take off the battery cover, and take the battery out.
Your phone will "reboot" and show a Missing Battery icon.
8. Without unplugging the phone from the wall charger or turning it on, put the battery back in and wait until the phone recognizes the battery.
9. Your battery should now be recognized by the phone, and showing a charge % significantly lower than 100%.
Mine showed only 5%.
10. Let it sit there charging for 2-3 hours (or more).
My phone wouldn't charge past 10%, but yours might. The numbers don't matter much as the phone is definitely getting additional charge that could have been lost while flashing ROMs, etc.
11. After 2-3 hours (or more), turn the phone on while holding the volume down button and get into CWM.
Do not disconnect it from the charger still!
12. Wipe battery stats and reboot.
Do not disconnect it from the charger still!
13. When the phone turns on, go into Battery Calibration app again and look up your MV numbers -if you were like me, they should be significantly higher than before. After this whole process I had 4351MV at 100%, comparing to 3400MV before calibration.
Do not disconnect it from the charger still!
14. Make sure your wifi and data connections are off. Now finally unplug the phone from the charger.
Go to bed, let your phone sleep too.
The next morning, use your phone as normal throughout the day. Then when it comes time to charge again, see if that does anything for your battery life and/or charging times...

Battery charging problem JB stock

Hi guys,
My phone is on UAE official
Just updated from ics to jb using kies and the charging is taking forever like 7% per hour
While on charge if im using the phone it actually is decreasing the battery instead of charging.
Checked using the current app the charger is supplying 1amp tried various cables and chargers etc and same
Would I need to factory reset or wipe cache after an official update.
By the way on ics charge time is perfect so not hardware fault.
Any reply would be great
Cheers

Been said in several other threads that this can happen if the phone wasn't on 100% when upgraded - maybe it removes battery stats. Apparently after the first full slow painful charge its reverts back to normal. I guess its trickle charging so not to damage the battery. Say battery was 50% when updated - it thinks this is full charge - once you do actually fully charge it the phone then re-learns the actual full battery in stats and is ok.
Not sure if this is 100% or not though, i made sure i was fully charged when i updated last night.
All you can do is try and see if its back to normal after a long lengthy first full recharge
Yes that could be the case due to updating at around 85 percent.
Thanks for the great info
What explains the charge decreasing while on charge on use ??
Anyone ??

Ok so I changed the original charger that has the usb input with the extension cable. This is the 1amp charger the red led looked dim using this on JB rom
Now I used the 500ma output direct wall charger with no usb input all in one charger and the red led is full bright like ICS rom and now charging while using phone and charge rates are back to normal
anyone know how to fix usb charger thinking its not AC more like charging from pc usb ??
Cheers

I don't know what really is happening but my phone started to charge reeeeeallly slow in the last two days. ( I got JB over the air a few days back).
It's for example charging right now and as soon as I start to use it while charging, the battery percentage goes DOWN.
I never had this before. On ICS I was able to easily get through 2 days (I mostly have power saving feature on, since everything works great even in power save mode).
What the hell is happening here.

I used to have this problem, too. I fixed it by turning my phone off and letting it charge to 100%. After that, it would charge and discharge as expected again.
I have the same problem,
But I have a temporally solution , I charging my mobile with my old charger for galaxy s2 ( which is direct to wall ) , it will charge fast as ICS rom before ( 1-100% 2:20 mnts)
I think there is a problem in JB rom, the mobile thinking the original charger (with extension USB cable) it is charging from computer ... so it is really really slow , plus it is not charging after 90%
any how .. the mobile charging well when it is off.!!!
This my experience
Yes like you im using direct charger 500mA and its charging while I use phone and I get full charge from 10% to 100% in about 2 hrs and 50 mins
For a second I thought I was the only one with this issue turns out many of you guys noticed this problem aswell
thanks for the all the input

The Mega charging/discharging issues..

I love my Mega. It is by far the best phone Ive ever had. But, the problems I have with the power usage and management on the device are a total nightmare.
1) The discharging nightmare:
The battery lasts NOTHING. Basically I get about 5 hours of use.. maximum.. no matter what I do.. and I have slimmed down to the ROM to having that NOTHING active.. I literally am left with active 6 services and I monitor CPU usage that is always near zero with NO apps hogging resources. From what I monitor on the device's battery usage, it's clearly always about 90% from the display! And yes, I dim the screen as much as I can of course, but usually not below 1/2way.. I hate screens too dim. However even just on standby with the screen off I still lose about 5% to 8% of battery an hour. Worse, even with the device Powered OFF, I still lose about 20% of battery a day. The ONLY way I have found out to control battery drain completely, is to take the battery out. That's it. Anyone else with similar symptoms and a fix or, is just that the stock battery totally sucks??? Also, any other off brand batteries are any better?.. (not the fat ones rated at much higher amps but that have an extra bulge.. that I don’t want)..
2) The charging nightmare:
This to me is the worse problem. It is bad enough how quickly this device issues battery, bit not nearly as bad as trying to charge efficiently again. I now have tried 3 different chargers/brands (and cables) to try fix the charging problem that is, it takes HOURS and HOURS to charge the battery. I am talking 5 to 6 hours to get it charged and if the screen is on and Im using the device it actually charges NOTHING at all and still keeps discharging (albeit much slower of course)... the fact is that the charging process is so pathetically slow that is less than real-time which means, with the device connected to power supply, the battery STILL drains if I try use it. This is absurd. However, mysteriously enough I have found ONE way that charges the phone super fast.. using a SONY External Power Pack (model CP-F1L) rated at 2200mAh. This is seems crazy because the power output of an external power pack should be much lower than the stock (and other Samsung) USB chargers.. but, it's what works.. the ONLY thing that works. And I have noticed that when connected to a USB Power charger, the Mega's Red LED light turn on faded.. however, when connected to the SONY External Power Pack, is bright red. Clearly more juice going in.. or something like that. Again, anyone else with similar symptoms and a fix the charging time, or, any good recommendation on a extra strong USB power adapter/charger that will make this thing at least charge faster?
Thanks in advance for the input and advice:silly:
Sounds like something is not letting your phone sleep or the battery is defective. Try putting CPU spy on it and let it set for a while. Then check to see if it is getting into deep sleep or if it is even stuck at a certain frequency.
There is an app on the playstore called Galaxy charging. Try it to see what rate it is charging. Though with the rate your phone discharges, the charger may only being supplying an amount just over the drain rate which is why it takes so long to charge.

Yes this is not normal, I get five hours screen time on fifteen hours usage.
Sent from my GT-I9205 using Tapatalk 2
Yep, something wrong there. I'm stock and this thing won't quit :good:
I would flash the stock rom back into your phone and see how the battery works then as this not normal as mentioned by other members as I am still on the stock rom but rooted only and I have great battery life.
That is were to start by flashing the stock rom and if no change then battery or maybe a hardware problem.
Did you have good battery life before you starting flashing with the phone or did this occur after the stock rom was removed and custom rom with stuff removed to gain performance?

You could try to remove the battery from the phone for about 5 secs and re-install and see it that helps as sometimes if you take the charger off as soon as it is done charging it might not show 100% at times when booting as I leave mine on for a bit longer and it seems to help..even though charge light is green..I leave it longer on.
If your phone is rooted get a app called battery calibrator from the google store as it is free and install it and just before you shut down the phone to charge wipe the battery stats with this app and then shutdown phone and fully charge and then see how the battery works after the battery stats wipe as that can usually help.

Thanks for the tip. Installed the app you recommend, now I understand better. With the stock Samsung USB charger I get 420 readings. With the other 2 chargers I get 500 and 540. However, with the Sony External Power Pack I get 1900!..no wonder it charges super fast with it! My question now is what's up with all the USB chargers I have? I even tried my old Galaxy Tab 7 charger (strongest rated charger I have) and still only feeds 480. This is all so bizarre. So, where to get a super strong charger for the Mega?

Usually when this happens there is something wrong with the USB cable not necessarily the charger. Is the sony cable a USB type cable or a hard wired one? If it is USB type try using it with the other chargers and see what your results are.

Yes indeed I notice the Sony Power Pack cable is short and thick. The Samsung cable is long and thin. I get much higher charging power using the thick short cable. Maybe I need go shop for a proper longer/thicker cable.

I've certainly found the USB cable makes a big difference to the charging speed. I got a couple of 2m cables off Ebay and they're hopelessly slow, but the stock Samsung cable is fast. I just wish it was a bit longer!
I have the same issue
I have the Sprint Mega. Not refurbished and original factory state but I have horrific charge/discharge issues. Right now, my phone just got to 100% charge which I then unplugged the charge cable. Within 5 mins, I went from 100% to 96% and it is losing battery even quicker.
VeEuzUKY: It's been a while but do you still have this phone? Any updates? I should prob invest in a thicker USB cable like you've describe. It has the most charge rate.
I got my mega 6.3 last week. Since then it has said 100% charged... even when charging or dead. So I got a new battery thinking it was the battery but its obviously not and im not sure what it is that could be the problem. Im not sure if its crucial for my phone, if it can be fixed easily and cheaply, or if I need to return my phone to the place I bought it from.
