Actually tethering as we speak, using this: http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/
for the profile set it to generic ics

I read FoxFi from Amazon App Market works w/out root, but I haven't tried it yet so I can't confirm this.
Anyone tried it?

i've used FoxFi on my transform and it worked like a dream though i was rooted. have a buddy uses it on his bionic unrooted.
it's interesting how it works though. it actually activated the hotspot app on my transform though it wasn't reporting it to the carrier at all.
i'm also curious if it works on the LTEvo

Works great on mine unrooted. Tethered old evo and ipad no problem. For some reason you can't change the SSID or use any encryption though.

for android-wifi-tether i think i remember reading that you should have wifi-driver reload, MSS Clamping as well as routing fix checked. The device profile should be Generic-ICS. With those settings on it works with mine on PKMN rom as well as when i was running stock rooted.

I use FoxFi, works like a dream. Changed SSID and password... all works for me

Hotspot is working with newest tether beta (5). This needs to be moved to General.
barnacle wifi works
Hot Spot Capability After Root
The only wifi tether app that works after root is wifi_tether_v3_1-beta5.apk. I can't remember where I found it but it's out there.

It doesn't work when you want to tether it to a Touchpad. The touchpad cannot detect the wifi connection coming from the phone.

apparently neither does ps3... which idk why it won't work with my photon when it was working with no additional apps or changed settings on my rooted evo 4g... but life goes on and we deal with stuff that just doesn't work... =\
Because the evo actually used infrastructure network with wireless tether

Has to be implemented for the Photon. If you get mad and want to sell your Touchpad to me for $99 just let me know.
Rooted with One-click AIO MoPho root from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1217416
Then downloaded latest (beta6) WiFi Tether from here:
http://android-wifi-tether.googlecode.com/files/wifi_tether_v3_1-beta6.apk
Changed the SSID but left everything else off (encryption, etc) to help with the speed. The work laptop anyway connects over VPN. Set up WiFi connection manually in work laptop (XP) as ad-hoc.
Worked like a champ! It's slow as hell ... but a champ! Let's hope it works a little better when on the road. I just need to show that I'm logged on (Sametime).

How do you set the Type to Net D. I get everything else but that. Thanks
Also if you are using an Android Tablet you can tether via Bluetooth rather easily.
For those who have gotten this to work with the TouchPad , what channel are you using? Thx

After you set the profile to Samsung Galaxy S, get back to the options menu and select "Change Setup-Method" (next one down) and then select "Netd (master)" and that should be it. Hope this works out for you.

Tether your Touchpad

OK... After sacrificing my ability to tether by moving from CM7 xronified to ICS, I have tried all kinds of combinations to tether my Epic 4G Touch to my TP on ICS (currently running CM9 alpha 2).
I came across the app foxfi in the market and it WORKS. I am still on cloud 9 at the moment, but has anyone heard anything bad about this app? It doesn't behave like open garden or wifi tether, but its freaking working. I am posting from the tethered connection right now.

What tethering app are you using?
I must be missing something, how is it possible that what version of Android your TouchPad is running effects your phones ability to be a wifi hotspot?
I have never had an issue with using the built in wifi portable hotspot in Android to tether my TouchPad. If you enabled that on your phone when you were running CM7 on your TP, how would ICS affect that.

Touchpad doesn't play so nicely with all tethers. Consider yourself lucky. Alot of people dumped their TPs because they couldn't get tethering to work. It is very buggy. All 3 of my TPs don't tether at will. In the past, there have been different protocols to get each to work. My hotspot could be seen by every other device I own, but my TPs couldn't see it. There are tons of bug threads relating to wifi, but nothing really talking about tethering. I saw a few other threads in forums for phones addressing touch pad, but why not have a place in the touch pad forum to bring it all to one spot?
Now Foxfi works with all three TPs and no ceremonial switches and reboots are required to get it to go.
Mine tethers from my Atrix perfectly with the built in setting. didn't know people were dumping their tp cuz of tether.

Dumb ?
Read what was here, but question:
Do I need to root my phone? I have the HTC Incredible 2, and am not trying to root that and just trying to connect my Touchpad (wifi-only) to my phone and be able to use internet, market, etc.
What apps and instructions would I need?
I thinking only people on Sprint (or Verizon?) have that issue....I tether my tp with my Samsung captivate on ATT all the time...so does my Sister from HTC sensation on Tmobile....
@Salvation27/: u csn try this app Clockworkmode tether

As far as I know, without rooting, you will have to pay for the hotspot service by your provider in order to tether. I would say try PDAnet, but I haven't heard of anyone successfully tethering via BT.

That could be the issue too. I will test it with some of my friends phones and report back (might be a day or two). I didn't think about a possible conflict with carrier specific phones.

According to the info on the Market, Foxfi does not require rooting. But you will need to check to see if it is compatible with your phone.

I use freetether on my pre2 to tether-via-wifi with my touchpad, works great.
You're right about the bluetooth. The option is there, and I can get everything to link up, but it still doesn't seem to be actually sharing the internet connection. I thought it'd be brilliant to get bluetooth tethering going (it should use a bit less energy to tether, giving me better battery life), but it doesn't seem to work in all the testing and fiddling I've done...

Actually the one in the market won't work at all.
Goto the SOURCE and get the Beta (it's not in the Market)

Set Generic ICS, Router Fix and MSS Clamping
This assumes your rooted.
FoxFi works on stock. Free in the Play Store.
The market wifi tether works just fine if you change your device profile to generic ics. That's the only change i made and I've used it with a kindle fire and a Dell vostro 1500.
Getting ready to try these tips. Thanks you guyz.
Thanks. The settings above worked!

Fox-fi works great. A little tip though, if you use Chrome as a browser on your laptop or whatever you'll still get service messages and blocks use safari or Firefox if you're tethering. This may not be the case for everyone but that was the case for me when I was tethered on my mac book.
I also got the paid version of foxfi don't know if that matters or not.

what i did for quite a while was, i got foxfi, and i purchased the key. (it was a lot cheaper when paid key first came out).
the biggest thing you need to remember is, with a tablet, t mobile doesn't detect it. on a laptop, use chrome, and download the "user agent switcher" extension for it. use an Android browser, and you can slip past the guards.
Fox-Fi is a excellent choice, i have used it non stop with no interuptions

[Q] SM-N900P Wifi Tether

I have rooted my Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note 3, mainly so I can tether. However, upon installing Wifi Tether (I tried regular as well as TrevE Mod), and entering the usual settings, I found that it does not work with this phone. Does anyone know of a way to use wifi tethering on this phone? Is TrevE going to update his app to work with the Note 3? Developers, if you are seeing this, such an app would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Wife Tether Router is working for me after rooting my note 3. Had to play around with the settings at first. Ad hoc mode works, but none of the other modes would work.

Confirmed. Wifi Tether Router works for me too. $1.95 on the Google Play store. Configure as Method 3 Ad-Hoc.

I used Chainfire's easy root method the day I got the phone and it works with no problem. Wifi Tether Router does require root, but it is confirmed working where the Trevemod that most people use does not currently work until the dev updates support.

They seem to suspect that TWRP is causing the boot loop (I haven't installed recovery yet) but I'm rooted using chainfire method and haven't had any issues with booting. But yes, rooting would be required to get around sprint's official wireless tether.

I bought Wifi Tether Router, and it works, but there are a few things I cannot stand about it. A security passcode cannot be set on an ad-hoc connection, so anyone can connect. Also, even after I tap disable, the ad-hoc connection is still active! New devices can still see the hotspot until I turn on my wifi and connect to a network.
Does this work with 4g as well?

Look like I'll be holding off until there's a secure connection. Can't stand open network.
It may not be wifi hotspot, but for a good workaround for now I'm using Pdanet+ on my Note 3 and Bluetooth tethering to my tablets using Pdanet Tablet. This creates a secure VPN connection to the tablet and all my streaming apps work fine on it. Haven't tested it with LTE yet but going to try that tomorrow.

I'm using Barnacle as well It seems to work well in ad hoc however, plugged in, it works on tether and leaves no vacant Wifi network. Seems to be a good workaround until the encrypted app is available.

The native hot spot works now also.
Would seem the best option to me.
The only real caveat at the moment seems to be there is no odex version so must be running a deodex rom.
Which is simple enough and an odex version should be along shortly
