Hey all,
After doing the OTA update from verizon for droid razr max none of the apps that I could previously freeze/uninstall during the first leak can be frozen now. These include apps like mog video surf etc. I wanted to give out a heads up. Also, if anyone has any info on how to resume freezing the apps please let me know
if you go to manage apps, all, then pick the app you want to freeze, then tap uninstall updates, then you have the option to disable the app. i think this is as good a freezing. all of you disabled apps will be at the bottom of the all apps list. hope this helps.

any one know a way to stop my mopho from updating it's self? i'm on the version of the SW that lets me keep my FB contacts synced and i would like to stay there. i have root, no custom rom/boot.
Any ideas?
You should be able to use Titanium Backup's app "freeze" feature to freeze "updater".
I'm just curious: can built-in bloatware-esque apps be frozen, disabled, or uninstalled in Motorola's ICS build as they can on the VZW Galaxy Nexus? I'm talking about for normal users, without root.
Just wondering whether the immediate future of Motorola/VZW phones will be a bit bloat less bloated for normal (non-hacker) users.
Yes and no. The soak test is great but has a few very small bugs.
Yes you can disable almost any app installed. Its great...but of you go into manage apps/ all and try to manually disable it will not let you disable many. A workaround is to grab the app from the app drawer, drag to the top of the home screen to" app info" and it will let you disable as many as you want. I think o disabled 25 apps. The only problem is 3 apps reenable themselves after a reboot. Google+, play movies, and something else. Slight bug. Not major. I kept root and you can use titanium to really freeze if you want
You'll probably need root to fully rid you're self of the apps, they reside in /system/app in the root file system which auto installs at boot, where as downloaded apps and updates reside in /data/apps, you may be able to regain a small amount of space by un installing updates, and possibly keep them from loading in memory, but i doubt anything will last through a reboot

I tried to search but its hard to come up with anything specific to my question.
I have had the prime for about a week and a half. Just upgraded to JB but noticed this in both JB and ICS.
When I look at the built in task manager widget I see random apps loaded. For instance Titanium backup will show up when I never launched it. Then later Google search partner (or something like that) and the music app, google play etc.. etc...
This all happens if its been on and I did the "One touch clean" showing zero apps or after a fresh reboot. I assume this is the bloatware everyone is not happy about? Is there a way to get rid of these random launches? Is it auto updates or what?

Apps can launch themselves if they have the permissions depending on a trigger (like system startup, widgets updating etc.) This is so they can autoupdate etc. (Like fetching the news at a certain time and updating your email)
I use an app called autostarts https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.elsdoerfer.android.autostarts&feature=search_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwyLDEsImNvbS5lbHNkb2VyZmVyLmFuZHJvaWQuYXV0b3N0YXJ0cyJd to disable whatever I don't want launching on its own.
I'm not sure if there is an equivalent free version.

Excellant! Thanks.
Something that is catching my attention as i mess with roms, is whenever I first sign into google services the google talk app is immediatly alerting me i have invite requests etc. meaning that app seems to be sitting in the background running and probing for network access. Clearly a battery drain, but I cant find a way to disable this behaviour short of freezing the app in titanium backup.
Have google really been this silly and put an social chat app on the OS that is forcefully always running unless removed?
On GB roms there is an option to not auto sign in, on ICS/JB roms (and also on GB if you update it to hangout app) there is no way to avoid auto signing in.
So am I right the app cannot be turned off, and is there any known ill affects to freezing the app?
Freeze it. It's always the first thing I freeze when I do a clean install.
Hello,
is there any way I can prevent specific application update and especially its update notification? Of course I don't want prevent ANY apps to notify updates available or update, but just some I like in their previous forms. Specifically, I'm talking about QuickPic, as I don't like new editing form. I have previous app backup of version 2.9 and I set in Google Play not to update automatically but it still gives me notifications that updates are available. I want to get rid of certain apps notifications and updates. Does anyone know any tool for that?
Titanium backup gives you the option to 'unlink apps from market' I'm sure there are other non paid apps that will do this too but I don't know what they are.......
