[Q] Where is the water damage indicator on Photon? - Motorola Photon 4G

Not the one on the battery. I mean like the actual one INSIDE the phone.
Here is an attached picture, are these it? The red dots?
Also, as a second question, if my phone is on stock 2.3.5 via RSD flash(sunfire sbf file), does this count as stock to the manufacture? My bootloader is locked still, can they tell I've modified my phone in the past(such as ROM's or rooting)?
Thanks!

Those would be your liquid damage indicators. Looks like it took a swim. As for the bootloader I'm not sure maybe someone can chime in.

as long as you're running a stock os and stock recovery you're probably good. some people don't even have problems turning it in while it's rooted.

But what is considered stock OS? I flashed it via RSD(the sunfire sbf file)....
And if i do a phone exchange do you think they'll send it back if they look at those indicators? There is no corrosion on the mobo or anything..:good:

sbf'ing is making it stock. aka the os made by moto for the phone.
i'm not entirely sure what they'll do. i don't think they'll send it back, but they might charge you more for a replacement. i hope you have insurance on it!

If the technician knows what they are doing, they will make you go through Asurion (the insurance company). As a former sprint service manager, I'd make ya go through the insurance. That's Sprint's policy.

what color are those dots supposed to be if there wasnt water damage?
Couldnt the op just "paint" it that color?

They are supposed to be white. Yes, theoretically you could paint them white, that's called fraud. Especially if you're dealing with the insurance company, also, I believe you can order new dots online.....Might look into that :hurr:

looks like this one: http://www.cellulardr.com/motorola-...-3mm-x-26-free-first-class-mail-shipping.html

Well if you do that you're going to want to take it in ASAP. Because if that phone was on after it got wet, the board will start to oxidize and the water markings will turn white or whitish. And they usually know what to look for. As for putting down new ones ya got make sure there's no adhesive or water around where the stickers were.

It's been 3 months since I got water on it.
Also, as for those dots, I ordered some and i'll replace the two dots on my mobo asap. Anybody know of any other locations these things are hiding? Under the mobo maybe?
And where can I order the screw warranty stickers? (they go ontop of screws so you can't open the phone).

Ummm that's fraud and if you take it into a shop that knows what they are doing they will flag your account and mark the phone DBR. I know as I've done it a number of times to people trying to do the exact same thing you are doing.

HA HA, this is unlawful Mate.
The desicant filters, react to the amount of moisture resulting in the color. If they were a pinkish color, you could argue a point. Lavender color mea.ns ok. The fact they are a dark red, indicates severe water contamination. It's military technology. Been around for 50 yrs.
Bright red, well, you have been swimming with it. More or less.
Please don't ask us to do or say something illegal. There are other less scruptulous places that will tell you how to replace the 11 filters.
Just suck it up, and tell them you messed up. Pay the money, and be done with it.

"TXTING AND DRIVING - - - IT CAN WAIT" permanent imprint on my screen.

I was so happy with my Note. Great battery life, fast response, minimal/no black crush... and then something caught my eye when I loaded up the Google Play app. For a split second while the background was changing, I noticed the faint imprint of the "Texting and driving it can wait" sticker that comes affixed to the phone when I first bought it. I thought I was seeing things.
Then I loaded up the S-Memo app where it has a tan background and is easy to see screen damage. I deleted my s-memos to get a clear picture of the screen, and sure enough I clearly see the entire imprint of the sticker that comes affixed to the phone. I tried cleaning it, rubbing it, yelling at it, and nothing made it go away, It's permanent. I don't even drive!
What the hell?! Has anyone else noticed this? Try it -- go into your S-memo app and delete enough of your picture memos so the tan background is showing. Anyone else have screen damage?
I apologize for the tone of my first post -- this is already my first replacement Note as the first had a dead/hot pixel cluster that was instantly visible upon powering up the phone.
Off to Best Buy tomorrow to get a replacement.
Edited to include a photo of the issue.
Wow just checked mine and its not there go return it thats beat

No inprint here.
Easy solution to this though, just take it back and get a new one. At least I hope it didnt take you more than 30 days to notice this.
im sorry.. that is HILARIOUS
you can get a new one though. do it up man. this phone is GREAT.
Lol.
Sent via tapatalk using the Samsung Galaxy Note
How does that even happen?
It's not residue on the screen is it?
Guess they were trying to get there point across lol. I would try Goo Gone before returning it.
Goo gone is sone amazing stuff, but I personally try to not use chemicals on any electronics anymore... too many companies are using exotic films on the glass these days. If your return wont be that hard, i'd just do that.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using XDA
wtf? How would that even happen? It's just a vinyl sticker!
Naw man, that's whack - go exchange it. I can't even imagine what that phone went through to get a permanent imprint from the sticker on it.
Er.... have you removed the sticker..???

You know your note is a really Smart phone if its trying to tell you something. On a serious note, hope you got an exchange from BB.
-Once you go NOTE, you'd say 4 inches a Joke
How could this possibly happen? Because it's not like it's stencil letters, it comes on one vinyl strip
Only way I could see this happening is if you left the sticker on and set it outside in the sun for days
Exchange it!
Or try Mr. Clean's Magic Eraser
I would just replace it. Using any form of chemical or magic eraser could potentially cause damage, which could void your warranty. My experience with Best Buy exchanges, they are really good about it, as long as there is no damage to the device. It's not worth the risk. It sucks that this happned to you, but you have to admit, of all the possible flaws on a phone, you got the king of them all.

After seeing this thread I had to check mine (doesn't appear on mine).. That is one freakish issue and definitely should be exchanged.
Keep us informed on how you make out.
No way would I even attempt to clean it, just return it.
To answer some questions: Yes, I took the sticker off, but only after using it with it on for a couple days until my screen protector arrived. I was very careful about using it and, this may not show in the picture, but the ENTIRE protector is imprinted on the screen INCLUDING the border.
I truly have no idea what caused this, my only guess is a manufacturing defect. Off to Best Buy now. I'll report back with my non-cursed Note *knocks on wood*
Also, thanks to you all for the many lulz this thread has provided me in my "fist-world sorrow."

You're joking right? You used the phone with it on there for a couple of days and are wondering why the image is burned into your phone?? Even going as far as saying your not is cursed?
My guess: You left the TXT & Drive sticker on there while using it, and the heat generated from the phone on the screen made it rub off. (like iron on graphics on a shirt). To make it worse, you put a screen protector on it further locking in the imprint for several more uses.
Mystery solved?

Replacement Evo 3d Motherboard to fix 4G

My Evo 3D has been having weird 4G problems lately (goes into a connect cycle where it tries to connect, then turns off and on, and never really connects), and after taking it down to the Sprint store to have them look at it, there is apparently water damage inside the phone which instantly means no warranty repair, and I would either need to qualify for an upgrade($200), buy a new phone ($500 or more), or file a claim ($100).
They did show me the inside of the phone while explaining the water damage, and as everything else is working just fine on the phone, I'm wondering if I could just order the replacement part needed to fix the 4G and fix it myself.
It looks like there is only one logic board in the phone, so I assume that it's the motherboard, and I would probably have to replace that.
Does anyone know of any place that sells replacement motherboards, and how much they cost?

Water damage? Where was the "water damage"? Were any of the red stickers activated? Was it just the USB port that was 'water damaged'? More info please bud
Note: "Water damage" can be from condensation.. like if you leave the phone in a glove box or something, or go running with it strapped to you.. or even just coming in from the cold and into a hot house.

The water indicators were activated, as far as I could see. The USB port wasn't water damaged, but the sales person pointed out the water damage on the grey padding on the inside of the phone housing, and also there apparently was a small puddle of water in the phone? I'm not entirely sure how that was possible, but this is what he said to me.
As for where it was, it was on the grey padding on the inside of the back housing. Most of it seemed to be spread out from there.
Also, I usually have my phone by the sink when I take a shower, and did answer it in the rain a couple times, so water damage isn't out of the question.

You could replace the mother board but it's expensive.... Not sure if you can find it cheaper elsewhere. I would just file a insurance claim if you have the insurance..... Or buy one from Craigs list.
Also I am not sure but I think if you change the mother board you imei changes as well?
Surely if you are doing it under insurance, you could actually get a different phone? (i.e. a newer model.. like the One X.)

I don't think Sprint's phone insurance works like that. Phone exchanges are for comparable models, and even then, I think the only reason they wouldn't send you back the same phone is if they didn't have it for some reason.
Not only that, I don't think there's anyway to request a different model.
Oh I see, it's insured with sprint. Sorry I was thinking you were going to claim on your house insurance lol. Apologies, I made an assumption without thinking it through.

I would surf ebay for parts... Also it would be cheaper to go 100 claim route....
changing the motherboard most likely would change your HEX/IMEI number also, in effect you have a new phone. ebay for a phone with a broken screen but otherwise working is a possible option, not sure the cost

That would run him about 120 ish or alil more.
Yeah, it's beginning to look like replacing the board is going to be even more expensive then the claim. I may hold on sending my phone in on a claim until it actually has some serious issues. As of right now, even though 3G is slow as hell, it really doesn't interfere with the rest of the phone to not have 4G.
Also, I'm wondering if water damage is what caused the 4G to break in the first place. Might have been where the repair guys at Sprint stopped because they had a good excuse at that point, and that isn't actually the real problem.

Burn in (or whatever to call it) from sticker!!! :(

So I just got a new Galaxy S3.
It hasn't been a day and i've noticed a kind of a shade that looks like the "super amoled" logo that's on the sticker that you peel off.
I really hadn't noticed it at first but now it's really annoying on white background.
I've found a picture on the web so that you guys can see my problem.
http://img41.imageshack.us/img41/3724/img2689su.jpg
Is there any way to get rid of this? I've tried running so called burn in fix apps but none of them worked.
I've also tried using wet wipes but it didn't remove it.. so It's not stains or anything and it appears like its burnt on the screen
Everything else is great about this phone but it's just this shade that looks like "c" that annoys me!
I have 6 months warranty but my dad bought it in Japan and he just returned from there and it's not like he's there every month so it's a bit of a problem.
If you have any solutions or if anyone here encountered the same thing please please share your experience.
Thanks in advance!

no alcohol is not dangerous (or any other liquid), as long as you do not let it seep through the sides of the phone.
I don't think that mark is inside, the plastic cover is outside and I don't imagine ever seeing a screen saver image of that type unless you have used one...
Hmmmm, its not only the c, you can see inside of the c the word amoled and on the top you can see the word galaxy s3

Probably a display unit (which you would not want to have).

I will contact them and I will also add pictures of the phone and all of the receipts..
And I see that when you ship the item to them you need to fill an RMA form so that no additional customs will be charged.

OK, If you're not insured then you need to look at this video by Erica Griffin. Yes, this is for the GS3 but it really shouldn't be any different for the GS4. Her Vid on YouTube shows you how to replace the screen with digitizer and using all of the other parts from your current phone. It's actually a good video to see just so you know how easy this stuff is to do. The screen w/digitizer seems to run around $200 which is way better then $500-600 to buy a new phone outright. Just remember, I'm just giving you a cheaper option to fix it if you don't have insurance.

They claim that as long as they can't prove that the cracks were from impact there shouldn't be a problem. I'm afraid they might screw me over. But i mean the glass is completely fine and my sides have small nicks from previous small drops. im gonna try to unroot and wipe tomorrpw after school
My screen blacked out a week ago but been too busy to deal with it. Display comes through MHL onto my TV display so wonder do I need all parts mentioned? There's no crack in my display, but to my surprise the "moisture detector" sticker is tainted red (the big visible one, as I understand there are multiple stickers -- can someone confirm this to be correct?).
I may just take a risk and request replacement over the phone. Once or more in the past, I've had a warranty period issue replaced with the warning "...if its determined to be your fault, we will charge you the full retail price" and I've sent them bootloader unlocked, watermarked phones and they let it slide. There truly was no submersion or even open case exposure to water, I'm not sure how sensitive this particular sensor is to humidity or moisture through an enclosed back.
Anybody else surprised to see their "watermark" turn red when they feel it should not have been? From past experience having phones replaced via phone support, I'd wager they take my rooted, broken-display phone and never charge me for it.........................I been with VZW a decade and a half and then Bell Atlantic Mobile and planned in about 220-250 consistently for nearly a decade.........I'm not saying VZW is prone to show courtesy for longevity, but this could be 3-4 such instances in the smartphone era of questionable watermarks of rooted and flashed-to-hell Blackberries including blatant cracks...............

How Does Verizon Insurance Check For Tamper Evidence?

I am sending mine in for a replacement under warranty but I wanted to check if there was any water damage inside my Verizon Galaxy S4.
The outer water damage indicators on the phone and the battery are fine, but I am aware there is another indicator inside the phone next to the camera when I open it up.
I always take my phone into the bathroom with me when I shower and I have heard the steam from the shower could set that off, so I wanted to open up the phone and check to make sure everything is okay before sending it in.
Your insights will be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
I don't exactly know, but I think you'll be fine.

Haha, well I think I'll be fine too, but I was always curious to find out how, if at all, the insurance companies check for "tamper evidence" cuz I want to open up the phone and understand how it works, but I also don't want to void my warranty .
There are more than one "tamper" indicators in the S4. The one you ask about is not for tampering, it shows possible water damage. The spot will turn a solid pink or red when exposed to excess moisture. Not sure about steam from in the shower but if it gets wet (dropped in water, etc) it will turn the spot.
There is also the Knox counter that will tell if the software has been modified.
I was asking about tamper indicators cuz I want to open up my phone.
