NFC and Google Wallet at&t - Galaxy S III Q&A, (US Carriers)

"Not supported"
"Unfortunately, Google Wallet is not yet available for your device or mobile network"
Perhaps I should have done a little better research in this but this was one of the selling features for me i loved the idea of NFC. Anyone else experiencing this? Or is it just something on my end? Any help would be greatly appreciated:good:

Perhaps this is naive, but I wonder if we will get the option, or if they are just going to close it off altogether. I want my DAMN Google Wallet......is that so much to ask! lol....I use Google for every other thing why not just let me have this!

Google/ISIS Wallet for AT&T Galaxy Note

Does anyone know if Google Wallet can be used on AT&T's Galaxy Note? I have the NFC chip enabled and Google Wallet is installed but something - I'm guessing AT&T - is blocking it... Is there any way to get this running?
Alternatively, if Google Wallet cannot be run, does anyone know where to get a version of the ISIS (PayWithISIS) Mobile Wallet? They were testing it at SXSW and both TX and UT are test markets. Just wondering if anyone knows where to get the apk.
Thanks
Does any one have working Google Wallet for AT&T Galaxy Note?
If yes please let me know..
Yah our Note is not yet being supported for GW. My guess is that we will have to wait once the official ICS OTA is out from at&t.

Are you rooted? In that case it won't work. I also read we're missing a "secure element" chip, whatever that is. At&t basically set it so you will have to go through their Isis system... or so I've read

No more root?

I think it means that the play store will be selling many more devices. Makes me wonder if they helped it go that direction, I'm sure the big phone companies did.
I think if it is enforced then the phone manufacturers will have to start standing up to the phone companies. I think samsung has made it easier to root there devices and have been rewarded. HTC let verizon push them around and have paid.
I don't know tho. Those are my first thoughts.

According to that article, rooting on phones is fine. Rooting on tablets without consent isn't. Unlocking your phone to use on another network which doesn't specifically allow it will be illegal.
Basically, the companies aren't obligated to help you take control of your device anymore. We're likely to be forced into going to Google Nexus branded devices to be able to retain control.
I wonder if Google will eventually be fed up with carriers and they'll start being a carrier of sorts. You can already use Google voice to text and with groove ip you can make calls connected to Wi-Fi.

That's been rumored for years. With this new ruling, I don't doubt something like it will happen. They've already started offering Google Fiber, which is super-fast internet and television in Kansas City.
Who cares what the ruling is? They can't really stop you from rooting your phone OR tablet...
I just hope google doesnt go the way of skynet :/

They can't stop you, no. But if they enact the tools to detect it on their networks, they can take action. Will they, probably not. But legally they can now.

Well phones are safe. And as for tablets I'm sure people will ALWAYS find a way to not get caught.

i think the big point of the article was that theyre cracking down on say...att sims on verizon phones. but doesnt that mean that carriers can see the state of your phone at anytime?? its already been confirmed that verizon is selling customer data (length of phone calls, # of texts, etc)

Google Wallet

I know people have asked questions similar to this before, but all of those threads seem to be from a while ago.
Does anyone know if there is anyway to get google wallet? We have NFC, why can't we use it?
Is there any other option to pay with NFC?
Thanks
Both Google and VZW say it's not our fault or we don't know, I asked a rep why they listed Google wallet as an advantage of having a smart phone but it wasn't offered and I got a non answer.
For other NFC VZW is part of IRIS which just launched but only in Salt Lake City and maybe one other place and it should be active on Inc 4G's there I think, it was part of the last update.

Isis tells me my device isn't comparable, I got the otb update at the beginning of the month. But it says I might need a new SIM card for it to work.
For anyone who wants to store gift cards like on google wallet or apple passbook, pass wallet does a great job.

You will need a new SIM, there is an encryption method used by Isis stored on the SIM.

[Q] sph-d710 Text-Now Rooting?

Hi guys,
I just signed up with a phone plan with a company called TextNow. They basically allocate you an amount of data at a cheap price to make calls, texts, etc. They use Sprint phones and towers when you're not on a WiFi network.
The model of the phone is sph-d710. I'm wondering if anyone has been able to root this TextNow phone and still got the TextNow service on the phone to work? Thanks!
So textnow got back to me saying it should be fine to flash your SPH-D710 as long as you install the apk from
Textnow APK
I did make sure to ask them again to reiterate "Will calls still work over the sprint data network?" and they confirmed that it would. Hope to give it a shot soon!
Any updates? I just purchased one of these.

Yup, following up on my second post.. you can root and custom rom but you need to reinstall the apk shown in the second post. I found it to work best with a 4.1 version rom, because 4.2+ I would just get textnot app crashes all the time.
It works fine now except checking voicemail from the textnow app causes it to crash. But no big deal since you can check it online
Thanks for the update. I'll have to give this a try this weekend.

Quick question, Is there a way to go backwards from here?
I have a nexus s textnow phone and I was wondering if I can get rid of the textnow portion of it and take the phone over to sprint to use it. Any ideas how I can do this?
thanks

I don't see why not, I haven't tested it but these are already Sprint phones. TextNow just functions via the app which you can always uninstall

Question Can anybody please help me get carrier unlocked? (Sprint)

I'm trying to do a carrier unlock. I've been getting jerked around by their tech support who appears knows even less than I do. The device is fully paid off, the model is unlockable, I've got a stable version of android 13. Their tech support keeps transferring me or I get mysteriously disconnected. Even had a woman tell me I needed to remove my line from the phone account to make it free. I asked for clarification and she then said I basically need to remove the phone and line and service from the account first.
Please can anyone take pity on this noob? I'd really appreciate it.

Have you tried physically going to a Sprint store? I've had issues with AT&T in the past and the only thing that worked was going to one of their stores and talking in person.

No I haven't. I was kinda hoping that it wouldn't be necessary. I'm going to try again today. If all else fails then I suppose I'll have to take your advice.
