Android for dummies example problem - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am new to the android programming and I am studying it through "Android Application Development for dummies ". In the book there is an example of Task Reminder app. The problem I am facing is that it is not showing the built in image ic_menu _add when run on the emulator. I am using Android 4.1.
I have tried everything that I could possibly do. I have run this code with Android 2.2, 2.1 as well but found same problem.
many thanks in advance

[Q] Android on HD2 Q's

After installing Android 2.2 on my HD2 i restarteed the device, and it booted back to Winmob. I found an application that was supposed to relaunch Android on start up, but it stuffs up and the only way to get Android again is to delete the Android folder in the root of my SDcard.
How can i get Android on startup?
Are there any updates or apps i should install on Android to fix any bugs or anything???
in the android folder there should be a program called haret
haret is used to launch Android
Maybe you can give the name of the launch app for android, some launch programa's need a reg change to make em work
Thanks, and i forgot to ask.
My contacts dont appear in the contact book on Android, is there a fix for that?
If your build requires it you should run clrcad first to enable sound. And check if you need to run from Android folder or root of men card.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App

[Q] Android Commander - "No JDK found"

Hi,
I'm running RaduG's TastyGinger 2.0 on my Hero. Since NAVIGON Select isn't working with Android 2.3 ROMs, i've been trying to apply the libmedia.so - Patch which I found around here (sry don't know wo did it, think it was gauner).
Problem now is, libmedia.so has to be replaced - which I am, although my Hero is fully rooted - too stupid for
Tried several "root explorers" (except for Root Explorer itself which isn't free), none worked. So I searched for some pc-based solution, found Android Commander.
This requires Android SDK, no problem, downloaded... "This programm requires Java Development Kit"
okay, downloaded JDK 6 update 24, installed.
Started Android SDK setup again - "This programm requires Java Development Kit".
WTF? didn't I just install it?
Reboot PC - no effect, still same problem.
Does anyone know a solution to my problem? Am kind of desperate cause I want to get NAVIGON working, got no data flat so Google maps is becoming expensive.
Does not matter to me if this solution is PC- or handheld-based, just want to get navigon working
Thank You!
Just hit back and then next again.
tried this, didn't work. also rebooted system several times, but no luck ...
LOL ...this works! I had JDK, but thougth that my version is maybe old (it was't though). So I downloaded update 25 (was 18), installed it and faced the same message "not found" ...it was very funny that that it woks only if you go back and forth but this really works for me!!!
solved, with new version i was able to install without problems. thread may be closed.

[Q] basics of application developement

Hello, I am just a new kid. I want to develop some android apps. I have Basic knowledge of Java. I own a laptop and LG P500 handet.
I have downloaded Eclipse, Android sdk, sdk tools and ADT plugin and API 2.3.3. I have some sample codes which I have studied. but when I try to compile them, it gives error R.java can not be resolved to a variable. I tried building my own codes, but whenever "R.layout .main" is used, it encounters error. I tried many times, googled a lot, but didn't work. need assistance.
Try to clean your project doing

[APP][MOD] Remove device/OS check

Hi i've been browsing the forum trying to find a solution but however i'm limited by my knowledge.
Basicly there is an Game/app made built by GameMaker but the target system was not meant to support AndroidTV. I'm trying to run this game on my nvidia shield.
I sideloaded the app and whenever i launch it i see the background of the game as if it was going to work and then the app crash and i get the following error message :
Incorrect android target. This executable targets android TV devices. This build is for android".
I've download Apk Studio / Apk tool and i tried to find out in the code where would that check happen and how i can allow AndroidTv devices to run this app. However i don't see much in the manifest file that would stop the app from running in AndroidTv.
Anyone out there with more knowledge can chime in and give some ideas ?
Here is a link to the app i'm trying to modify.

Android Emulator Size Issue

Hi all, there is a size issue with my android emulator. Apparently the screen size doesn't fit the design frames. The AVD i am using now is Nexus 5X API 25. I have tried with Google Pixel 2 as well, even tablets! I am really not sure why this is happening! Stackoverflow doesn't seem to provide any useful solution as well (I've tried most of it - E.G changing emulated performance to automatic -> i cant even change as the area is greyed out, but by default it is already automatic)
Under SDK Manager > SDK Tools, my Android emulator sdk platform-tools and sdk tools are checked, also updated to its latest version.
However I have no idea why it is not working, even when i reinstall the avd, or android studio as a whole. Please help!
P.S I cant share links here but the problem can be seen at google image when you search "android emulator size issue"
