Lazy Panda Brick=Lazy Mac - Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE

Ended up bricking my phone using Lazy Panda, and could not even get it to power on. It was taking too long to d/l Ubuntu, so, I decided that in the time it would take me to get it all going, I could jump over to BB and utilize my black tie protection and swap it out, lol. And now, a new Evo to play with. Guess I'll wait for a safer s-off method.

Windows? Mac? What were you using? Were you S-On or S-off? Unlocked by HTC or another method.
I was Htc unlocked, S-On and used lazy panda for Windows and had zero issues. Took all of about 8 mins and i was S-off. really simple.

Why would you run the Regaw unlocker before running LazyPanda?? LazyPanda doesn't void ur warranty like the Regaw HTC method....

Feed Panda with VM
I completed the s-off proceedure using an ubuntu vm in vmware on my Mac. If you are going to do this make sure you set the USB setting for the ubuntu vm to Always connect USB devices to it (the vm) instead of the host.
The only other thing that happened was after the panda was fed I started getting an error 16 when making phone calls and people could not call me. A quick call to Sprint, telling them after a hard reset I started getting the error they put me back on the network and everything is good.
One more bit of info, I tried to feed the panda on my old mac mini g4 that is running linux instead of OSX and received an expected ( error. Which points to not having the right libraries installed, 64 vs 32 but I think it has to do more with the processor architecture (g4 vs i386).

[Q] New Evo 3D owner need advice

Hello all,
I traded that sorry BB Playbook for a lovely Evo 3D. Now I want to root 2.3.5 and I have Hboot 1.5. There is a lot of information that I have combed through but its really confusing. I have a Nexus S and an Evo 4g rooted without issue, but EVO 3D appears to have too many ways to root and I'm not sure where to start. If someone can point me in the right direction it would be appreciated.

I would recommend htcdev.com for the official 1.5 unlock. Its easier and safer than downgrading your boot loader.

Dude please go back to sucking on your mothers nipple as you have no Idea what you are talking about.
@OP stay away from HTCdev.com do the downgrade it is well worth it in the end yes it does sound scary that you have to brick your phone to achieve h-boot 1.4 with s-off but it works 100% I have done the method and now sitting with an evo3d with h-boot 1.4 s-off running Meanrom with the Anthrax kernel.

Seeing as you HAVE to use the HTCDev method to unlock it in the first place, I would say you have failed. Massively.

I recently had my EVO 3D replaced by sprint, kept rebooting randomly even after superwipe and flashing completely back to stock. Received a replacement with 1.5 hboot. I downgraded it just fine, never used HTCDev method.

If you are new to rooting and not very computer savy I would recommend htc's unlock method it will give you root albeit with s-on. But if you understand Linux and are good on a computer. I say go ahead with the down grade by unknownforce. I'm gonna do it this weekend. It'll be nice to have s-off.

Now, now guys. Let's give our neighbor across the pond the benefit of the doubt as he is on GSM and cannot downgrade boot using unknownforce's method.

Bricked Evo?

So I was doing all the downgrade stuff..
Downgraded, got as far as the Revolutionary S-Off part, then when I was gonna update my radios I ****ed up and copied the wrong zip and flashed the first 2.11 RUU and it took me back to 1.5 locked.
I was so tired had been at it for hours so I'm like **** I'll just start again I guess this time will be easy, I bricked my phone through the method but then I read if you were already s-off that was perma brick?
I read that after I tried running the live cd tool and it wouldn't recognize the phone, please tell me my 2 week old baby isn't gone...
I do get the red dim light still idk if that matters but I can't turn it on or go into the bootloader
The last I heard if you do the downgrade with S-off your phone becomes a paper weight.
I got frustrated at what I did and was so tired I didn't re-read I just repeated the process then I read I had bricked it since it was already s-off..
is it gone?
As far as I know its gone! on the bright side you now have a nice expensive paper weight!
Sorry for your loss. Its a hard lesson learned.
Your best bet is to take it back to Sprint and tell them it stopped working, and see if they trade it in for you. I've read that a guy on this forum did that and they charged him like $35
for new device. Time to use your communication skills. I just sent mine to HTC for repair because I don't have a Sprint account, I'm using Google Voice for the moment. Just tell the Sprint rep how much you love them and their service and how you'd recommend them to family & friends and all that, they might just help you out. I'm missing my E3D already:'(

Not exactly, you can take any update you want to with s-off, and s-off will stick. I've run the 2.17 RUU with s-off and it put on hboot 1.5 locked, but since I still had s-off, I just flashed a custom recovery and then flashed hboot 1.4 without ever unlocking, the s-off overrides the lock.
I wouldn't do fastboot oem writesecureflag 3 unless I absolutely had to, like if I was selling my phone and they didn't want s-off. The op only has problems because he was s-off and then did unknowns brick method.

i do not have a windows computer so i cant get s off.
which means i cant get ICS on my amaze.
this made me sad but then i thought that once flashable roms come out i will be able to just do that but i heard that i still need to be s off.

You dont need s-off to flash the ics ruu. Countless people with stock none s-off, none rooted amaze have flashed the ruu perfectly fine through hboot.
Read through the ics ruu thread, they have alot of explenations there.

The only part is, it can prevent from doing S-Off if you flash it without it. Also, if you have to send the phone in to T-Mobile for warranty, it'll void it.
well...
would i still be able to retain root after flashing with s-on
also on a side note, even if i am rooted, will i be able to send my phone in for repairs and still have it under warranty because i still have like another year and a half with this phone and part of the phones screen doesnt work anymore.

they will make it compatible with Amaze ICS, they did it for the sensation and Rezound, so there will always be a way to get S-OFF when the official release is available
so the only disadvantages of not having s off and getting ics is
because so many people had made it sound like your phone will explode if its not s off
thanks everybody for the help, thanks button will be clicked!

S-Off can be reflagged to S-On. HTC keeps a record of unlocked, which does void your warranty if they prove used, which they can't and it is not in the fine print that they have the right to find out if used. So, in theory, you're pretty much safe for warranty which has been proved in Rezound and Sensation forums for unlocked users. The only problem is if you crash before it is able to get S-On through ADB. If they actually check, you may end up with an insurance claim instead. Its not as bad or harsh as they make it sound. We make up maybe 1% of Android users and a slightly larger percent of HTC users.
Edit: An HBOOT can be edit to remove tampered, show locked and then device reflagged to be proper.

You s-off by reading the directions on the sites that have been referenced many times on this forum.
I got the wire trick on a bootcamped macbook pro running windows 7 32bit
took me like 30 minutes though.
Also worth noting that in this culture of Jailbreaking, S-Off, and Rooting, usually multiple developer teams start hacking the next generation devices, but only one vulnerability method is promoted and published at a time.
Why?
Because the OEMs are simultaneously trying to patch any security loopholes the community finds and locate more overlooked loopholes themselves.
If the public hack gets fixed on next round of software, there is a good possibility other unpublished methods will still be successful.
Gotta keep aces in the hole...
Hopefully the next OTA won't 'fix' this exploit. We shall see. I S-OFF'd with my HP laptop. Took me a little while and a couple tries. I had the video with the wire trick up to help me with the timing on it.
I never could get s-off I have a Mac and I couldn't get the wire timing right the few times I have had access to a pc... To be fair I used a rather short paper clip... Im still s-on :-(

My understanding was because of the physical nature of the phone a hardware change is required to prevent s-off.
Also when the OTA comes out if you are s-off it wont turn you s-on anyway. Once s-off always s-off unless you fasboot secure writeflag your bootloader...

For me, the only difficult part of getting S-OFF was the timing. I kept moving my wire from one contact to the other and getting the "STILL SOBER" message on the CMD window. But I found it works more easily for me if I had the wire held onto the pin 1 contact and then tapped ground twice instead of the other way around like the video shows.
I also got S-OFF using my desktop, with Windows 7 Professional 64-bit and an 1100W PSU.

Yesterday I did the deed, and got S-OFF. I was running a 1.12 hboot after downgrading several months earlier. Had to RUU up to a 1.19 hboot for the Racun to do it's thing. Otherwise it was a quick, and painless operation. If you need help go the #unlimited IRC channel on freenode.net.

DirtyRacun will work on 3.16 but you have to use Linux (windows is no longer supported)
