[Q] Newton Rings/ Oil slick 1 week after warranty expired, diy fix? - Galaxy Tab 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
as it says in the title my galaxy tab p7510 wifi has developed the oil slick problem just after its warranty has expired. Has anybody fixed this problem themselves? What would need replacing if I do it myself the screen, digitizer or both? Thanks for any help.

Well, first of all, not trying to sound like a Samsung rep or anything, but I've heard all galaxy tabs have warranty through August because you can register to get an extra three months of warranty, so you can send it back to get the newer screen (which is what I did). I don't think there is a permanent solution, the refrigerator fix works temporarily.

[Q] Purple flash issue when turning screen on. Need some guidance :)

Hey XDA peeps
Well, by my post counts u can telll im not a active poster here but in any case, lets get started
Device i own :
S3, GT-i9300 white
Currently running stock firmware. (gave to service centre to fix an issue and they just re-flashed the rom -.- )
Issue :
At times (not always) when i turn my screen on, it flickers a purple screen (for maybe for 0.3 seconds ) before getting back to my screen.
Ive been getting thing for a long time. I thought it was nothing, but now im worried.
I had this issue on when i had my phone brand new, when i rooted, when i using roms, etc etc.
So its like once a week i would see it.
I hope im making sense here.
So im just hoping someone out there has faced this and knows what to do, or atleast someone can guide me to a solution.
Can i ask samsung whats going on? Can this mean a possible screen replacement? (would love it, my edges arnt in the best shape )

You can ask and they may well say it requires new screen and give you the cost of replacing .
jje
I shouldn't worry about it, mine has done that occasionally on and off for as long as I've had the phone, you could try Samsung, but the problem is getting it to do it when they look at it!
Could help if you still have the original bill when visiting your local dealer. This might be a repair under warranty circumstances.
Sounds like a hardware issue to me
Good luck with your phone and please report back with any news.
Cheers

I went ahead to the sc centre. They were of no help. They said thry wanted proof of the same. And I was like " how do I present a valid proof of this? " They told me record it on a camera and show them.
So what this means is that every time im turning my screen on im supposed to have a camera on? ???
Is there any way to force it? ?

Weird that you weren't allowed to post on the Q&A section cause you're already a senior member. But anyway since you got it on March then isn't it covered by warranty? Replacement screens on the internet are sometimes bogus unless your really know how to criticized the item being sold. I suggest that you bring it to Samsung for repair.

How much do you think the repairs at the Samsung centers are? I got. My. Phone off someone on kijiji and he got it from Hong Kong for dirt cheap and then I found out the pho was from France pretty sure from Orange. I'm not really the type of person that wants armatures to replace my screen... But the phone is like 300$ now and I do love my phone because no one else I know has the Grey one and I can't sell it on eBay because I have personal things in it, or should I just keep it as a decoration and buy a s4 when it's lower....
I don't know what to do... Is it really worth 200$ to fix a phone that I can get for 300$ but I wonder if they'd fix everything else because I've been having signal problems

Better go and ask them about it as I haven't really encountered bringing in a phone for repair. And if you ask me if it's really worth it to repair a phone for almost half the price when you bought it... well... I think i'll pass and just get a new one because you'll encounter more issues afterwards. Of course it's a different issue when you send it Samsung for warranty issues.

If you take it to a Samsung supported repair shop they will know its under warranty by the imei and serial number. You wont even need to have the reciept if you got it from someone else.Same happened to me once.If you want to replace the screen yourself then buy one on ebay for 140 bucks and do it yourself with a video tutorial from youtube. Its not that hard mate.
Ive changed a few screens for friends with ones from ebay and they are perfectly good and dont have any problems at all.Run perfectly and you save heaps too.

If its under waranty it should be free.Otherwise get a screen from ebay for 140 and fix it yourself and then try and sell the phone for 250.
250 + the 60 you saved will be 310 to go to an S4 at least mate.Id see if its covered first and then you will have a working phone to sell + 200 bucks.

Yeah mate all warranty coverage is free if its something like a hardware issue. If you drop it and they can tell then its up to them but if you dont have any marks on the side that makes it look like it has been dropped then just say that it wont start for some reason.
The bad thing is if it has been rooted and flashed and you havent reset the binary counter. Then if they see that they will most likely send you a letter asking you to pay cos that will mean you have lost the warranty.

Replacing the screen wont do anything to the touch at all.Ive changed screens on the S2,S3,Note2 and iphone4S with ones Ive got from ebay to save money by not paying store labour rates and none of them have any problems or screen issues.

Yeah mate if they know its the screen from an accident then they wont fix it.If you want to purposely brick your phone and say it has SDS (sudden desth syndrome) thats up to you but you may want to just fix it yourself if you cant find a non-samsung store that will do it for cheap..meaning screen + labour maybe 200 bucks.
Better to start looking at youtube videos.

Turn in a insurance claim with sprint or buy a new screen off eBay make sure its a real Samsung one and replace it. Its very easy lots of videos showing you how.

Turned phone on and noticed what looks like screen burn/issue

I hadn't turned the phone on lately since I'm waiting for the lollipop update. Screen was perfect a couple weeks prior then when I turned on I see an irritating defect. Has anyone seen this. Do I need to shake it or something? I run my finger over it and it doesn't seem to go away. I didn't drop it or anything.
It's probably actually a broken or damaged LCD, a lot of the initial runs of HAM2 units had a problem with warped or misshapen LCD panels. You can tell if yours is affected because if you push gently on the screen the areas where it's damaged will become quite visible. This usually gets worse over time, too. My own HAM2 purchased in August of 2014 has similar issues but I've learned to just live with it.
Here's a video that someone else did which described the issues to a tee:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rH9OH4GCBYA
Thanks for that video. When I push on my it seems to make it go away more. It was perfect for 9 months then when I don't use it appears but maybe that's the problem. If I was using maybe it wouldn't have happened.
I have the exact same issue on my phone at the same location and shape also. Did you try contacting them for warranty claim?

Thank you for reminding me. It never even occurred to me. Just got off phone with them. They will take care of it. I'm going to mail in the unit asap while I'm under warranty. Hopefully the lollipop update will be fully released by the time I get it back.
Guess i will get mine replaced when it starts bothering me.

Touchscreen Issues Patched?

I have the Snapdragon factory unlocked US model. 2nd day of owning the device. I notice the phone has touchscreen issues since it will not register my taps right away. Does that issue get solved in the March 2018 software patch update? Or would I need to just return my device? No deadzones and it passed the secret menu test multiple times.

After 17 days of ownership (S9 plus) I had deadspots. After much effort to try to get a new replacement, Samsung offered warranty repair service, which would take 2 weeks. They suggested I might try a repair service in the Phoenix area called Ubreakifix. I brought the phone to them, they transferred the repair ticket to them and they repaired it in 3 hours. It's as good as new now (hopefully).
Ubreakifix confirmed that the touchscreen was defective. Definitely not a software issue.
I'm surprised that I'm not seeing more postings about this problem...

I am not getting dead spots like others, but my screen requires multiple touches to get stuff work. Is it true once you replace the screen, the phone's water resistance may not be as trust worthy?
My touchscreen is driving me insane. No deadspots but if my finger slides even the slightest bit when I tap the screen - it doesn't register. I have bad arthritis which must be aggravating the situation. I've tried everything I can think of with no help. I also have a new samsung tablet I have to use at work that behaves exactly the same way.
Out of curiosity do any of you have dry hands? Or very calloused fingers? I've experienced touch issues but on multiple devices and it seems more prevalent when my hands are dried out. When I moisturize them I get much better response from the touch screen

Some say it is a software issue and the Exynos patch solved it. I hope this is the case with the unlocked USA Snapdragon model once the patch comes out. I only have about 2 weeks to decide if I want to keep the device.

Haven't used a Samsung tablet in ages. I own an iPad myself, so I stay away from Android tablets. I only like Android phones haha. I have 14 days left to return the device, so the ball is in Samsung's court.
