This is not right.Go to the store and get a replacement.
But s... happens and 20 mil units sold in less than 2 month some of them will be faulty
I've seen about 20 phones and pretty much all have that problem to some degree. I had a 16gb blue and now a 32gb blue and both gathered dust around the edges and home button. Yours seems to be slightly worse on the side.
Anyway, although I love the phone I can't believe samsung's build quality can be so bad. I also own an iphone and after 2 years it still hasn't gathered any dust anywhere. Shame such a good phone is spoilt by crap build quality.

You obviously have a white model which is why the dust doesn't show up as much as on the blue. Even then it mostly shows in bright light / sunlight.
BTW, my preference of phone is none of your business. Just stating facts. I sell phones for a living and haven't seen 1 yet that had a perfect fit along the edges and back cover for that matter. For a phone with such a big price tag that is pretty **** on samsungs part.
FWIW, I've owned the S1, S2 and now S3 and the galaxy series is my preferred phone. But Apple build quality is miles ahead, and that includes the 3gs iPhone which had a rubber seal between the screen and edging to avoid dust buildup.

I like my iPhone for a couple of reasons. The apps are all designed for the screen size and everything runs smooth. My S3 has issues with VLC remote running slow but other then that I love it. My iPhone 4S is used for making business calls and that's it. LONG LIVE ANDROID!

You have a white one and since the dust on mine shows as white, it obviously wont stand out on yours.
You can do a quick test. Rip a small piece of paper and run the pointy bit along the edges, front and back. If it can go in, then it will gather dust.
As for your friends blue one, check it while sitting indoors with sunlight shining through a window onto the phone. He will likely see dust around the edges. That's how I noticed mine.

Lol. What part of my comments are based on emotion? Stating that I have physically seen 20 or so units and all had a gap to some degree has nothing to do with emotion. But since you've seen 2 perfect phones means that you are fully informed. My apologies sir.

believe me i tried your suggestion because i know it's a good thing to clean the edges once in a while so that the dust won't accumulate, but using a thin piece of paper and trying to insert the right angle edge did not go in.
so there are no gaps.
btw this is a white gs3.

Thanks for testing. Well its good to know that there are ones out there with no gaps. Pity mine has a small gap at the bottom. Not really noticeable but in certain lighting conditions the dust does show.
After selling my 16gb to buy a 32gb model, was hoping the second one was better but it was just the same. Small gap or not, I wouldn't give up my phone for anything out there. The S3 is pure beauty.

I had the same problem, cleaned it out with a toothbrush, then put clear silicon rubber and wiped it of before it dryed, problem now gone and you do not see the silicon, but the space is filled. But you should not have to do this with a top of the range phone.

I just noticed on my phone that the whole silver casing on my white S3 is cracking in atleast 10 places. I have not dropped the phone at all and it just started doing this. I took it to sprint and they said they have no idea whats happening so I called customer service and they're sending me a new one.
Sooo has this happened to anyone else?? Look at the sides real carefully and please reply!
Unfortunately, this has been happening with numerous S3s in Europe prior to our US release. No clue there why either.
I checked mine carefully and I have what looks like 4 seams, one in each corner. Almost positive they came with the phone tho.

Holy Hell.. well can't argue Samsung isn't using cheap plastic build quality. I thought they were on top of it. The sgs3 seems so Damn fragile with the weaker screen and plastic compared to my s2.
It's like pick your poison. Get an s3 that has great specs and software/hardware enhancements but it'll crumble in your hands.
Or evo that has great specs and camera but it has sense 4, resource hungry and will die without warning.

Some software problems, drops with broken screens. Was planning on getting the DNA on my upgrade in a couple months. My TB will be antique, 2 years old in April and I have a zag screen cover Sence day one and only a silicone cover with the back cut out for extended battery. Have dropped it more times than I can remember. No dents, chips or broken screen. So the DNA is really that fragile? Some problems I expected hopefully less than TB, but broken screens that easy with gorilla glass is starting to scare me. Should I really be concerned about this or is the DNAs performance that good to overlook the easy screen breaks. Some advice please. Thanks.
Sent from my ADR6400L using Tapatalk 2
The screen doesn't break easily, but its glass. Its harder to break than the tb. But A lot of people run their DNA with no case, and if you drop it and the glass hits something solid there's a good chancecof it breaking.

I don't know how many DNA's have been sold, but my guess is quite a few. You saw literally a few post about people who DROPPED their phone most likely without any kind of case, and that's enough you persuade you? This is one of, if not the best phone money can buy right now, you wont regret buying it.
Dropped 20+ times with screen protector and stepped on minor scratches only .. now if u face palm a phone from getting out the car etc most will take a ding or even crack. The DNA to me was togher than I thought it would screen included ..

Pretty much this.
This is a great phone, arguably the best device on the market right now. Get a protector, that way you can drop your device at leisure.
Just wait a few months until the new line of phones come out... This is the best phone out now..

I would guess the DNA is only marginally more vulnerable than the TB. The glass on the DNA covers all the front and a little of the sides. That means if you drop it on the side it could crack, unlike the TB.
If you drop both flat on the glass screen then probably both shatter equally.
They need to come out with those flexible screens soon!
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using Tapatalk 2
My DNA has lived through:
1. Being dropped flat on the screen from a standing height
2. Sitting in the passenger seat with no cover/holder/case during a car crash that totaled my car
3. Being dropped in the parking lot from me forgetting it was in my lap when I got out of the car
The first 2 had literally no effect on it; the 3rd case a scratch on the side.. but the screen is still perfectly fine. So.. call me lucky, but I'm pretty impressed with the DNA's durability.
Exactly why I went with the DNA. This phone has display technology that other companies are scrambling to replicate with their respective display manufacturers. Soon there will be tons of apps and game that will require 1080p resolution to run properly.
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using Tapatalk 2
Thanks everyone for the feedback. After having a TB I don't believe newer HTC products could handle the bad rap and still leave HTC in the competition. I am impressed with all the comments on the 1080 screen and to run JB out of the box has to be worth it, as my Moto Zoom wifi has been running JB for a while, and I love it. I'm glad to know that I don't have to bubble wrap it now. I'm not crazy about full cover cases but will definitely find something to protect the edges of the glass. I'm sure there may be something out soon that will help. Everyone seems impressed with how it runs, looks and fits to hold. PS I played with the Samsung s3 in the Verizon store felt like a cheap plastic toy that would break if held to tight. Lol wasn't impressed left with my clunky heavy extended battery TB. Will be spoiled to not have a phone with an extended battery along with carrying the charger to. Lol. Thanks again for the good feedback. Will be hard to wait for my tax refund

Yes. Yes it is.
Only dropped it twice from knee height. But it was in an OB case due to the type of job I have... And the tendency of dropping my phone often.
Side note (somewhat off topic) - dropped my DX quite literally over 100 times with no screen protector or case, only came out with little knicks all around the metal and no screen dmg. Amazing

Can't find any on mine. I've kept it in a Seidio ACTIVE case pretty much the whole time I had it. However. It has seen about 3 drops from 1-2 feet up. 2 of the drops were in the case, the last one was naked. Took a nasty fall while testing out my navigation mount suction cupped to my hardwood desk.
Note to all - the Samsung mount does not suction cup to hardwood desks.

No cracks on mine and I take my cover off on a daily basis to replace my battery; I never recharge my phone but swap batteries. It could be much, much worst because the door is the cheapest part to replace. Some of those carbon fiber and leather backs look much better than the Verizon branded stock ones. Funny part is that I have a spare NFC chip from the free flip cover Samsung sent me a few weeks ago.
It would be a different story if I heard or experienced a crack in the housing. Then I would be pissed.

I looked at one in an ATT store, and the plastic bezel was terrible. Didn't line up, gaps, looked like it was cut with a stake knife. Made me not want the phone. Then went to wal-mart, and looked at a t-mobile phone. It was perfect, so I bought it.
I still would like to see a picture. I'm pretty sure I have one but I just want to confirm. Maybe I'm just too anal.
If you want to subject yourself to the OCD torture of the gap issues, there us a thread in the international One forum that has many pictures of the gap.
Also in the at+t forum there is s thread called gapgate. You'll find more pics there as well.
Some I would say are valid while a lot are being really OCD and nitpicking.

I'm not sure if the gap does affect the seal, but all phones have some sort of seal even if they're not intended to be in or around a liquid substance. Sudden changes in climate cause moisture to form, and all manufacturers use measures to prevent it from going beneath the screen. I doubt the gaps affect this, so my rambling on was basically to say that I understand where the concern comes from.

There must be ABSOLUTELY NO GAP between the chamfered metal edge and the plastic.
HTC themselves have claimed this, most recently a few days back in a video that they put up themselves boasting of its ZERO-GAP CONSTRUCTION!!!
Those who do not see it or understand the gap in your phone, please see the videos below.
Here you can clearly see the gap:

And as you can see in the video below, just press your phone at the edge and you can clearly see the gap "closing" (what a shame),
Try it and you will most likely see it on your phone. This is really a shame.

Folks this is serious.
I am having this gap too. (I went to the T-Mobile store and even their demo unit had this issue and they said that most of the phones in the batches so far have this issue.)
I am quite surprised by the responses from most of those who responded so far in this thread. Hope I have helped to make aware that these are indeed defective devices that we have got.
You paid a premium price for an expensive device that is supposed to be zero-gap construction and has been been advertised as such by HTC: unibody, precision-cut, diamond-cut, zero-gap construction.
(Here: http://www.htc.com/us/smartphones/htc-one/ and most recently here:

This is a serious build quality issue in the batches of phones that have come out so far.
The sad thing is I showed this to the manager at my local Tmobile store and they said that they are not recognizing this as a defect and will be charging restock fees to exchange.
Hi everyone,
I'm considering moving from a Note 2 to an S3. I love my note but it feels a bit large and cumbersome.
On researching the S3 I noticed a number of threads (mainly from last year) about the prevalence of the bezel on the S3 cracking in various places (under the volume and power buttons, by the micro usb port etc.)
I was wondering how widespread these issues were. Do all S3's inevitably suffer from them or are there people out there who have had their S3 from release day with no issues?
Thanks all.
Shouldve asked in those threads, and in the correct section not to clutter up the forum
Mine isn't cracked but my gfs couisins is in 3 places but I think that's from being dropped

Its a common problem. Its purely cosmetic.

How long have you had yours for?
@rootSU I appreciate it's only cosmetic but seeing as the only straightforward way to replace the bezel is by replacing the screen too it's not really something I'd take a risk with. On the note 2 the bezel can be unclipped and replaced for ~£10.
You know the problem exists and now you know its fairly common. If this is a concern, avoid the s3

About 8 months til my crack appeared at a guess btw. Its annoying and means I'll probably never be able to sell. I would avoid now if I'd have expected this problem

Get one of those silver pens and see if it masks it....keep meaning to try it myself!

all depends on the price
Mine is cracked near volume racker. It is only cosmetic. Don'n think it is selling problem for those want to sell it and those want to buy used device.

I wouldn't buy one with a cracked bezel. I can only ever judge a situation by my own standards. So if you would buy one, then I guess you're the same

what about a dented/scuffed bezel? (i have the same thought process as you regarding re-selling)
Anything that clearly makes it look damaged really.

A lot of people buy damaged phones like this to save money

Selling a damaged phone gets me less money than a phone is worth to me. You may aswell give up. You'll never get me to sell my phone cheap to you.
But who would buy a phone knowing that there's a chance its resale value will half due to cosmetic faults? They don't get it cheap on the off chance it breaks.
If I knew I could only resell this phone at half its second hand value, I would never have bought it

I'm with you to be honest. I cannot stand buying something that is already visibly damaged and before buying anything second hand I scour the device looking for marks and scratches - even the lightest ones.
I'm still sat on the fence at the moment wrt the bezel. Does anyone thing newer s3's might be better constructed, and I assume there are people who have had their s3 from launch and have had no issues with bezel cracking whatsoever?
For those that use cases what kind of cases cover the bezel? I'm not a huge fan of cases particularly because of the bulk they add, but if there is a slim case available it would at least be a solution of sorts should the bezel ever crack for me.
I recently bought an alu case. Its the only one that covers the crack. It wont prevent the cracking though

2 SGS I9300 here and both of them have about 2-3 cracks on the bezel.
My white S3 is still perfect, I keep it in official Samsung Protective Cover or the Slim one.
I am very careful when I insert headphones or usb charger not to scratch the phone.
Its more to do with expansion and contraction than not being careful
