Youtube on 3G: Connection to server lost. Tap to retry - Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE

All of a sudden I started getting this error the other day.. no idea what the issue is. Videos worked fine before on this phone and all my others before it. It stopped working on my one EVO LTE and then it just didnt work at all on my replacement. I don't buy that its a tower issue as other gingerbread phones in the household work.. any ideas? Anyone else experiencing this?

I started to have the same issue since last week. I havent called sprint yet (as they are no help). The youtube app works fine when on a wifi connection, but as soon i get on 3G ...nothing. I also dont have 4G coverage in my area either (next spring).

I also got the same issue after I did the OTA update on EVO LTE.
YouTube app works fine over wifi connection but when using 3G it gives this error.

Mine works fine on 3g but on wifi I get the Connection to server lost. Tap to retry WTH it happens on both my phones

Evo 3D just stopped connecting to "Mobile Network."

Just sitting here at work, and I noticed my battery was unusually low for my usage today... when I noticed that my 3G icon was missing. I thought that was weird, because less than an hour ago, I had it for sure. I was getting email updates for work on a regular basis.
When I checked my quick settings, my mobile network just kept saying "Turning On," and would sometimes flash between that and 'ON' but never actually brought up a 3G, (or any data icon for that matter.) Texts are still getting through, but are about 2-3 minutes behind Google Voice popups on my laptop.
Has anyone else seen this before? I have rebooted, and tried Airplane mode, and disabling/renabling all the radios individually, and nothing has worked... Guess I should yank the battery now. Really bizarre. I usually get pretty good 3G service over here.
If it continues, exchange it.

Mine did the exact same thing this afternoon in Lubbock Tx. I rebooted, turned off and on and data always showed turning on but never connected. For some reason I ended up in the Sprint Zone and it then connected. It went into spring zone as I tried to connect to *2.
Don't have a good explanation of why it started working but try going to the spring zone and check data on.
The same exact thing happened to me too on my 3d today.

Did you do the "speedup 3D" trick that was posted where you removed the proxies after typing in your MSL password? If so, undo it, because that's your problem.
I haven't messed with any settings. I pondered it, but I haven't received my MSL code yet.
I did just find out that my coworker lost his 3G on his Epic. I think this is a Sprint issue, and not any of the devices... Scary though.

im experiencing the same issue right now here in north austin, tx. im getting basic phone services but no network (market/FB/web/etc.)
and no I did not use the speed up internet fix.

well seeing how there are 3 texas people here experiencing this issue it might just be issue with sprint
Maybe they are upgrading the equipment of the "node".

Well I just came back from BestBuy and picked up the 3D here in Michigan. Everyone in mobile just about had Sprint and no one could connect to 3g. My Evo 4g had a very limited connection. As soon as I got the 3D, it couldn't update the weather. So it is definitely something going on with Sprint right now and not your phone.
Just came back for me... Ben White / I-35 area. That was weird.
Are you sure your power saver settings aren't disabling your data connection due to your phone being below the % you set it at?
I don't think it's a 3d problem. I've had trouble connecting to 3g here and there with my og evo about 2 weeks before the 3d came out. I seriously think sprint has some serious network problems.
Man what is going on with Sprint? It's been happening a bit today as well.
I installed golflogix and it gave me an error message and forced closed the program and also put the 3d into airport mode.
However, golflogix will work on 4g.
There seems to be some problems with the sprint network or the 3d.
I had this same issue over the weekend. Rebooting the phone never worked so I did a factory reset and havent had the problem since. but it does make me a little apprehensive.
Perhaps the network is experiencing outages as they roll out an upgrade to their data network to proactively detect unauthorized tethering activity so that when HTC imminently unlocks the Evo 3D, they can charge backdoor tetherers appropriately.

Connected to 4g but not able to access internet

So , my problem started yesterday and whenever I connect to 4g I'm not actually able to connect to anything online. Everything works fine over 3g and WiFi but everytime I'm ok 4g , I get nothing . I live in Philadelphia , and in a 4g service area. I've tried a master reset and still nothing. Does anyone have a way to fix it . I tried a search but wasn't able to fond any info for my problem . Thanks in advance for all your help.

Having the same problem in the same area. I called Sprint just now, the rep said it wasn't the towers. I have a OG EVO, I'm about to power up and test out. If it works fine, I'm returning the 3D until they issue a fix. This one was a replacement for one that was running hot, but I noticed weak 4G speeds on that one also.
I actually went through your same ordeal on TWO 3vo's.....third one was a charm.. nothing will fix it, so you'll have to take it back to Sprint for a new one.

Thanks I'll stop in a store tomorrow. Hope 3 is the charm for me too, or I will go back to my OG for awhile. I need my 4G hotspot.
The rep mentioned there was a (bad batch) that was having problems. I was honestly almost going to cancel service and go back to sprint. Once you get a 3vo with no issues you're going to LOVE the phone. And just wait ti'll we have an unlocked bootloader....lol

Thanks for the update. I'm from the philly area as well. I'm going to keep mine on 4g all day to see if i also get the intermittent connection. Sometimes it will work then sometimes it won't
I was having the same issues yesterday. I spent like 2 hours talking with Sprint doing ##3282# data profile restores until the 5th rep says it’s a nationwide issue. The connection showed full reception on my 3D and my wife's OG EVO, but the connection to the internet or any other data services was intermittent. Seems to be fine today.
this was working fine today but stopped working about an hour ago. anyone else have this issue???

sadly this is not only a evo 3d problem...i have an epic 4g and have been experiencing the same problems, the 4g connects yet no webpages will load and apps wont connect to the internet. 4g sometimes starts working again but then it stops again. If anyone can find out what the hell is going on it'll be a great help.
I've had issues where certain apps don't get internet access while on 4G but the web browser always seems to work. I know Scrabble from EA didn't like the 4G, and Google Music didn't either.

everyone is honestly too quick to jump the gun and return their phones. It's quite silly and alarmist.
Just reset it or wait it out; that usually solves most problems.
This is my second evo 3d, this one works fine till today, i work at Bethesda ,MD, the 3g works fine, my 4g no way this evening, they need to solve this problem asap, or else they are going to loose customer, evo 4g has good reputation, E3D please don't destroy that reputation.
They responded to me on their Facebook wall, Wimax cell sites are down (intermittent data issue on 4G). They're working to bring them up.

Yesterday (Monday), I had connection problems from Noon to 4 (in Center City), but could connect to SpeedTest around 5:50 pm in Mt Airy.
If it is just the wimax cell sites being down, as opposed to a bad 4G attenca in my phone, does anyone know of a way to check besides calling Sprint? Their reps vary wildly in competence (or at the least, some suck at reading their memos/emails), and I don't want to have to call 80 of them to get a straight answer :/

LOL if you noticed, I'm in your area, its not the phone.
Yeah, I noticed Someone had mentioned in this thread that he'd had two 3vos with busted antennas, so I'm a little worried (I've had an amazing streak of non-defective electronics purchases, and I'd hate for this phone to end my streak LOL).
As of 10:40 Am EST in downtown Philly, with 1 bar of 4G and 4 bars of signal strength, I have Wimax data transfer (3.20 Down and 0.07 up, 115ms ping). That's after updating my PRL then my profile while 4G was on. I'm guess they're currently working on getting the WImax cells up.

Pandora won't work on 3G

For some reason Pandora has just stopped working when I'm on my 3G connection.
It will sit there and say "Buffering 1%" or "Loading" then just keep skipping to a different song. The application worked fine yesterday, and I can still use it on WiFi with out a problem. I'm on Sprint with the unlimited data plan so I know that cannot be it.
I don't mean to sound like a smartass, but did you restart your phone? If that fails to work, I would clear its application Data and reopen it. If that still doesn't work, try uninstalling the app and re-installing it from Google Play.
Also, ensure that your mobile broadband is enabled under settings. Good luck.

I usually can't stream Pandora when I'm on the Now Network either, but that's because it's too slow. Maybe Sprint's network is taking a siesta today and it will work better for you tomorrow.

YOU CAN'T DO ANYTHING ON THE SPRINT NETWORK. lmao! go get AT&T... at least their 3G actually works. hahhahaa. or get verizon since their 4G is the best in the country. 50+M down. 12+M up. other than that. restart your phone. there is a know software issue with our phones.. maybe it'll get fixed on the next update. That IS the problem. You can't stream music with Sprint's dial-up speeds. Download the Speedtest.net app, and run it a couple of times. If you aren't getting at least 300kbps, which you probably won't with Sprint, then you won't be able to stream music.
Download the SpeedTest app from Google Play. See what kind of up and down speeds you get. Pandora requiere atleast 150Kbps constant to work.

I know I don't have the same phone, but its worth pointing out that I'm seeing this exact same problem with my Epic 4G running CM9 RC1... Pandora won't play anymore from either 3G or 4G sprint... Works just fine from wifi though... Won't play from pandora's flash player in the browser either... I'm actually starting to think that Sprint has decided to filter some traffic off their network, and Pandora is one of the lucky winners. Please tell me I'm wrong... :/

No, Sprint's data network just plain sucks, and has for 2 years. I haven't gotten above 150kbps in over 2 years.
I've run speed tests. I get more than enough data for the high quality stream (192kbps). Attached is the photo of the tests.
Still looking for a solution.

I recently used closeone's HBOOT Downgrade toolkit to take my Sprint EVO 3D from HBOOT 1.50 to 1.40. I then used freeza's firmware update to update to 2.17. I was running mikeyxda's ICS MeanRom, and everything seemed to be working until I tried out Pandora. When I select a station, it gives me the "Buffering 1%" message, then says "Loading", and sometimes it will say "Buffering 2%", but it hardly gets past that. This is only on 3G. 4G and wi-fi work fine.
This guy seems to be having the issue as well.

Wow, so the only thing I can add here is: My wife's EVO 3D (S-ON, flashed to OMJ's ROM) actually streams Pandora quite well on 1XRTT. That's right - not 3G but 1X. Turns out a glitchy radio keeps things away from 3G yet the tunes flow half decent.
Same issue here too. It has worked fine for me up until 2 days ago. And I would listen to it everyday to and from work.
I have a rooted HTC EVO 4G LTE still running the stock rom.
I can stream fine over wifi and I can surf just fine. The only thing that I can tell has changed is pandora just sits at loading indefinitely.
Fixed. This is an issue with the pandora client. The fix is to roll back to an older version. 1.5.13 worked for me.

Lol at the ignorant Sprint haters. Our data connection is fine. I watch netflix over 3g at work and play pandora over 1x while hiking. Other carriers can't even make calls.

I've dropped on average 10 calls a week in the past few months.
Tested my connection tonight in central Illinois.
i WISH i were getting these kinds of 3G speeds.
i'm lucky to pull 300-500 on a great day

I had that problem with my sprint m9. Had it for a week with no problem then suddenly no data connect. No 3g or LTE for a couple days. Just Wi-Fi. I took it to a local corporate store and the best tech there eventually swapped out the sim and it's been connecting since. She told me sometimes the cards are bad from the start. Of all the phone's I've had that was a first for me.
Hmmm, mine seemed spotty today. A couple times I showed good 3G or LTE signal, but couldn't get data through.
Toggling airplane mode seemed to help.

so i had the same issue and when i got the new OTA the other day which has a new radio I think the data issues are even worse..
Try a profile update. I activated my phone in a non-sprint area and got really terrible 3g and NO 4g in known LTE saturated areas. Once I returned to my hometown I updated the profile and PRL and I instantly got LTE and the spark logo.

Yep I've had those issues since day 1. Occasionally the mobile data will disconnect, yet is switched on. Only toggling airplane will fix it.

I'm having similar issues.
So far, I tracked it down to this...
If I am on WiFi and then switch off, it will connect to LTE. At that time, some items such as Mail, Facebook, talking to Google, etc. quit working. It just times out. However, I can still browse the web and perform other functions. It will work if I switch back to WiFi or 3G, but so far it appears that I have to restart the phone to get everything working under LTE at that point.
Can others confirm this?

I have come across this as well, it's usually when I use more than 4 GB of data over sprints network. I sent a message to sprint telling them their service is shotty at times, never heard anything back yet but haven't run into data connect issues (since then). Also I've heard you can complain about signal strength and if you put in the time (going to supervisor to supervisor) they will send you a device to boost your signal. Or you can just pay for the signal booster device. This is just my opinion and what I have heard, don't quote Bubba

my data drops numours times a day and its getting pretty annoying, the phone constantly tells me i have lte but nothing works, browser, facebook, pandora, snapchat. Toggling airplane mode does nothing same with turning mobile data off and back on, sometimes updating the profile will work but man its driving me crazy!
Definitely a radio issue. We need a radio update bc this is killing the battery as well.

The airave signal booster is 3G and voice, had 1 for 4 years, hasn't worked reliably for the past 2 years and with these issues its not gonna help when the phone is able to get and hold the lte signal.

The issue is either hardware related, or possibly a radio handoff issue.
Has anyone swapped phones yet with a newer batch to see if it still occurs?

Yup doesn't matter, had a 1st day release and also a 1st day store release. Both have the issue for me.

I'm constantly having the issue, and I've been advised to swap for a later release. My local stores are sold out, so I will advise once I have it swapped.
Any other possible solutions?
I did a swap myself and is not a hardware issues, I believe is the radio. I downloaded this signal check app to see what type of network connection is always on. I notice when connected on LTE, I have no problem. When it connects to 3g is where I have the issues especially indoors. It kinda tells me is connected in notification bar, but the network connection is stuck on 1xrtt.

My problem, and what I have read from most others is on LTE. It works on 3G and WiFi.
Would this affect Hangouts messages from not coming through? If I'm not on WiFi, I'm on LTE, and message notifications won't come through when off of WiFi. They of course come in fine on WiFi....
It's weird...I was sitting at my desk and my phone was jumping back and forth between Sprint 25 and 41 every few seconds...I did the profile update and now I'm solidly on 25 steady.
I've also seen jumps to Verizon LTE which is sort of my blowing.
Hoping this also solves the issue in a spot near my house that I was dropping data completely where before I at least had a useable 3G signal.

Hey everyone, my wife and I just got new M9's on sprint last Monday. Thought everything was going fine but then I noticed that whenever I was on LTE a lot bof my apps wouldn't work. I can watch Netflix and use tweetcaster, but a lot of other apps won't work(facebook,Pandora, and google now I can search but if i try voice recognition it says it can't connect to the server). Everything works fine on 3g and Wi-Fi. I have done speed tests of the LTE and they are always at least 7mbps down and 2 up. Have tried clearing data/cache and uninstall/reinstall of apps and still nothing. But it's not just my phone it's my wife this is happening on also. Any help would be appreciated cause I can't figure it out. Thanks everyone!
Try toggling airplane mode or mobile data on/off.
It sounds like the "data drop" issue some of us are having.
I am having the same problem i called sprint and they couldn't help at all i think is a phone defect

Try updating your profile or PRL , that's helped me in the past with data issues

I also have run into this issue, it happened with my evo LTE until I unlocked/rooted my phone and could install custom ROMs and now with my M9 , which is completely stock with just the OTA I only have one single bar and LTE constantly switches to 3G and I run into data transfer issues even when it says its connected.

Already tried updating the profile and prl. didnt help. i tried airplane mode and back on and i can now get facebook to load new stuff but no pictures or video will load. still have a better than average connection. im gonna try pandora to see if it works here soon. this is frustrating to have to do this. hopefully a fix can come soon.

Nevermind still doesn't work after airplane mode toggle I was wrong. Speed tests say I'm getting around 14mbps download speeds. This is super frustrating. I don't understand.works fine on Wi-Fi and pretty sure 3g too. Could it be the apps themselves? Cause it's just some. But they are major apps like Pandora and facebook. Should be ready for this.

I've had the exact same problem since day 1 with my phone two weeks ago. You probably also have the issue where you are typically only at 1 signal bar when on LTE but full bars when on 3g. I've also noticed it hits certain apps but not others. Usually toggling airplane mode and/or mobile data will fix it for me, but sometimes i have to completely reboot. even after the OTA update last week, the problem persisted. i brought my phone into a sprint store on sunday and they replicated the problem but had no idea the cause, so they swapped the phone out. same problem with the replacement, so i'd imagine we're stuck waiting for a software/radio/firmware update before this is resolved

Thank you for this. Feels good just to hear someone else describe my problems exactly. Wonder if it s all sprint m9 or just maybe ones people got early cause I got mine the Monday before release. Same on both my wife and my phone. I can't understand why some work and some don't. Now that you say it my LTE does most of the time just say one bar. And 3g is usually full. Hope a fix comes soon. Wish we could get conformation that ots a known issue. Facebook isn't a huge deal ask I can just use the mobile site but Pandora ducks to not have it.
Did yours come with headphones? The sprint site said no when we ordered and I asked customer care on twitter. Both said no headphones but ours both came with them.

I wonder if it's a DNS issue on LTE.
3G, LTE and WIFI are all pretty separate interfaces and have their own "setup".
What you might try doing is see if you can PING the server by NAME and by IP Address on each of those interfaces.
You may have to dig a bit to figure out what servers the various apps are using.
If it pings by IP but not by NAME it's a DNS issue.
Ever since Lollipop there have been some IPV6 issues that cause DNS problems. But those have been usually on WIFI only.
There are some tools in Google Play to disable IPV6 but it only disables it on WIFI interface.
Like on Lollipop M8, MMS would not work on WIFI for some folks and disabling IPV6 would temporarily fix it.
A really nice tool to debug with is called FING that you can get from Google Play. It has built in PING, Trace Route and a bunch of other goodies.
I used it to find a rogue device on my work Network.
If some apps work and others don't it's very likely a DNS issues. Unless Sprint is now blocking some ports on LTE.
You can also test HOST name and PORT for a service, this takes some serious digging to see if the port is blocked.
There is a tool in FING for that too called TCP Connection Tester. I usually have used TELNET on Desktop PC's to do the same.
If you google that service you can often find the host and port it's using.
Here is an example: Let's say SPOTIFY won't work on LTE
Get the Port and HOST from a search I did that showed this. I searched for SPOTIFY HOST PORT

Yeah mine came with headphones, I'd imagine all the M9s come with them
I'm so happy this is happening to other people as well and not just me, was going crazy trying to figure what the hell was going on with my phone. Hopefully some update will fix this soon as it's very frustrating when I text everyone with Google voice through hangouts and my app doesn't pull in the messages

I'm happy it's not just mine either I mean it sucks but last thing I wanted was a bad radio.
Same issue here, when on LTE can't send snaps (just an example) also push notifications don't seem to come through. Though it might have been due to the rom I was using but doesn't seem to be the case. Even RUU'd it and it didn't help same exact issue. 3G just fine, wi-fi just fine. This is driving me nuts. I guess it sounds like it's a Sprint issue and not hardware which is good but calling Sprint Tech support is usually usless unless you get to the higher ups.
My friend has a pure stock locked non-rooted s-on phone he says he has been having issues as well.
We might wanna get something like this going over at Sprint Community hopefully try and get the issue moved up. I was thinking it might be a DNS issue as well.

I have yet to find or see a solution. Sprint or HTC hasn't said anything about it officially. Really sucks cause a bunch of my stuff just doesn't work right over LTE including push notifications won't come through. I have not enjoyed this phone thus far.

I've swapped for another M9, doing the same thing. I'm on the phone with Sprint now, they have escalated to a second tech. That tech claims they are not aware of any issues on the M9, but did say they heard of one S6 having such issues. The tech advised to swap it yet again.
If enough people return them they might actually look at the problem. I remember when the evo4G had an issue similar to this, you couldn't stream music Sprint's proxy would mess it up. Took them a while to release a fix. Really this isn't an acceptable problem, I'm mean half the apps are worthless cause they won't work over LTE. I'm past my return period and I'm unlocked and this appears not to be a hardware problem. I just wish they would confirm something that they are looking into it. I hate calling Sprint for tech support, it will be the usual non-sense of resetting the phone and doing data profile updates. Then they bump it up and tell you they will call you back when half the time they never do anyway and even if they do it's usually not with a fix. I remember I had a problem getting Direct Connect provisioned on the M8 when it came out. Regular CSR couldn't add the code correctly, they did end up fixing it eventually but no thanks to the techs I worked with nor did they really follow with me more than once. An issue like this needs to make it to the correct people which appears that has not happened yet.

Let me know what they say, I know Sprint has yet to acknowledge the issue. All this phone swapping business for probably no reason is gonna cost them a lot. I guess it builds a nice refurb stash.
