Hello everyone,
I am a new user of galaxy s2 i777. I have been trying to connect the phone in usb mass storage mode.
I have gone through a lot of threads in this forum, none of them give a clear idea as to what to do.
some say install kies some say something else... I have tried many things. all of them dont seem to work.
Can anyone please guide me in a clear cut was as to what to do?
Thanks guys.
Out of the box, by the default, when plugging, usb icon will and should be displayed on the notification; pull the notification down then tap to connect the usb mass storage mode. Your PC should recognize it now.
Note: try more than one usb port.
Go to settings->wireless and network->usb utilities follow instructions
I ran into that problem after using one my sisters chargers when i was visiting my parents house. Apparently the usb cable bent the connector in my phones port. I ended up bending it back and it has worked like a charm since then
Or enable USB DEBUGGING option. If you do that as soon as you plug into any computer, the option to transfer files will automatically show in your notification/status bar.

To clarify:
The Galaxy S II defaults to MTP mode (media mode, similar to iPhone).
Unlike said iPhone however, we can change ours back to the UMS (USB Mass Storage) mode by enabling USB debugging.
I never found it documented anywhere, I just ran into by accident when enabling USB debugging for TB and MTP stopped working.
It took me a while to figure out why.
I actually like MTP mode (it's faster and easier to use, except in linux as I understand).
The "USB Utilities" option seems to be a per-use setting (not 100% sure, never used it). However USB debugging is a "set and forget" option.
Use steps I quoted above to enable it.
After that when you plug it in, you can select to mount it to the PC via the notification bar.
Hope that helps.
EDIT: It looks like this option was posted by at least one other person on here before: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=20204599&postcount=12
Tried everything
Guys,
I have enabled USB debugging mode as you have recommended and and it still does not work. I am always getting the notification on windows as "USB device not recognized".
I have tried everything. i have installed the USB driver for I777 from the samsung website. That did not work.
Another strange thing. I tried "Wireless and Network>USB utilities>Connect storage to PC" on my FRIENDS computers(Windows 7), it works.! My phone connects in mass storage mode and I am able to transfer files as usual. I did not install any software on my friends computers.
But when i do the same thing on my WINDOWS 7 PC, it does not work. I use a Lenovo T420i with factory software installed.
I am a noob in the drivers department. Can anyone please tell me what to do.
Thank you.
Help appreciated.
you say "new user" which implies stock rom. if what they are asking you to do is not working, then i believe you might need to exchange the phone. if you have an ICS rom on it, then i think that you might be stuck with MTP until you switch back to Gingerbread. i might be wrong.
Is Anti-virus disabled on your computer? Seems I've heard that it should be, but can't find where... Also, there may be different drivers for a 64-bit machine (W7?) vs. 32-bit.
Have u tried a different USB port or cable on your PC?

Firstly, it's how amazing you are. You asked a question and only returns to it TWO months after? Obviously, it doesn't bother you that much.
Secondly, however, we're here to help.
About your friend computer, a. maybe he did install the Samsung USB driver already or b. maybe, at that time, you are using MTP mode.
Anyway, forget about his computer, let's get it work on yours.
I personally think the USB driver that you've downloaded from their website WOULD NOT work. I don't know why but I can tell you that it did not work for me. Give me some times to dig into my files or search again on this site for the CORRECT driver. You can also help me and yourself by continue to search for this on this xda site since I got it from here too.
Thirdly, along side with the 2nd above, do try different usb cables, do try on different usb ports
I can enable the USB mode on my note, but when browsing the phone with my computer (Mac & PC) I can not see the contents of the SD card?
EDIT: nevermind, rebooted phone and is working now.

First of all I appreciate the help you are giving me.
I am sorry if I offended you by not returning for quite a long time to post.
I have now resolved the problem and would like to share for everyone's benefit over here.
The problem was not with the software, it was with the hardware. I followed all the suggestions given over here and was in the end convinced that there should be a problem with my motherboard. This is surprising because my Flash Drive and USB mouse all work with my laptop without any glitches. But my phone(i777) and any other android phone would not connect to the computer. It would say device not recognized.
My nook e-reader which used to work perfectly started acting strange, it would be detected but i would not be able to transfer files onto the nook. So now I ws convinced that this was a hardware problem.
So I called up lenovo and showed them this problem via some software where i could share my screen with them. They asked me if a USB flash drive was working and I said yes. They reply saying that everything is perfect with your laptop and cut the call. I was offended , these lenovo support guys would not understand that it was a complex problem.
So I went to a local MicroCentre which had support for lenovo servicing and showed this problem to a technician. He was convinced that there was some problem and got my motherboard replaced . And voila there connects my android to my computer in USB mode..!
I would like to thank everyone for their help and taking time out to post here.
My laptop: Lenovo T420i with i3. looks like this was a case with my laptop only. a person i know has a t420(i5) in which my phone connected without any glitches.
Thank you for your help everyone. Hope to be helpful in return in the near future.
Hi,
I just came out of the Hyundai shop driving my new ix35 1.7 CRDi Gold+ version. Truly a fantastic car.
However, I seem to have problems connecting it with my Samsung Galaxy S III smartphone (running Android 4.0.3). When I connect it via USB, it says "Reading USB" and after about 15 seconds or so it says "Reading failed" or "error reading" (honestly can't remember exactly, but something along those lines).
I'm thinking it may be due to the new MTP implementation in Android? Does anyone know of ix35 supports MTP?
Thanks,
Deusdies
Did you ever figure this out? I'm on the same boat......
To disable MTP mode and go back to normal disk use like in your past phones, turn on debugging mode. But I doubt a car will read an Android off USB.

Tried that, but I still get the same error unfortunately.

Android Debugging enabled ADB mode (Android Debug bridge) and has nothing to do with USB masst storage (UMS) mode.
Currently it's only possible to use the external SDcard as mass storage device, and you need to be rooted.
If both is acceptable to you, try the Easy UMS apk here on Xda.
Does your car support Bluetooth connection? Most do and it should allow everything you wanted + the ability to use the car stereo for calls.
Having recently up-dated my Lumia 800 to the latest "Tango" version (officially via Zune, no custom ROM used), I have found that the following sensors are no longer available to me: Accelerometer, Magnetometer and Proximity. When I run Nokia Diagnostics, it tells me these sensors are not available on my phone .
So, I thought that I would roll-back to the previous "Mango" version and either stay with it or then re-install "Tango". Lumia and PC connected, check. Zune running, check. Zune and phone chatting to each other, check. All good to go. Start the roll-back and........ nothing. On the screen of my phone is the graphic showing that I need to connect PC to phone, which remains in that state for about 10 mins. And when it changes to "Do not disconnect" status, Zune then chimes in and says the roll-back failed and gives me the code 801812E0.
As a last resort, I also did a factory reset. Bye bye all my data (thank God for Re-installer and SkyDrive!!). As you can guess, the sensors are still non-functional. Damn it!
OS version: 7.10.8773.98
Firmware : 1750.0805.8773.12220
Bootloader: 7.41.0.0
Has anyone else had this happen or am I on my own? I've searched several forums but so far seem to be the only one that has had this happen. Just for info, all apps are loaded ONLY from the MarketPlace and all up-dates in firmware are the official versions loaded via Zune. Not unlocked or any Homebrew apps, just bog-standard out-of-the-box Nokia Lumia 800.
Any ideas and thoughts on the matter greatly appreciated :good:

Are the sensors present in different apps? For instance, does the compass work in mapping apps, does Photosynth work? Easiest thing would be to visit a nearby Nokia Care Point and ask for a reflash of the firmware.
@ChrisKringel.... Sadly the sensors are totally missing (can't view photos or internet, etc in landscape), the screen remains active when I make phone calls and the compass is missing too, which I first noticed in the update of Nokia City Lens. When I use the Nokia Diagnostics, it says that none of these sensors are present.
Anyway, had a mail from Nokia Support suggesting that I take the steps I had ALREADY told them I had taken. So went to my local Nokia dealer and asked them to make my toy better. Long and the short of it, it has to be sent back to Nokia and will probably be replaced. So for the next 10 days or so I am Lumia-less. Back to my HTC HD2 (which you just can't kill, even after diverse WM, WP7 and Android ROMs). But I so much more prefere WP7 on a native device and the Lumia is a great phone!!
I got incompatible message when my friend sent a picture from an android phone (Samsung S III )to my phone with NFC feature. I tap-sent a picture to my friends' android Samsung S III in which a series of graphic characters displayed after a new tap collected. Is it due to incompatible encrypted code? If so, the device with NFC could only be compatible with the same kind of device with NFC. Any suggestion or comment to resolve this problem
I had same misfortune. Only thing I was able to send to gs3 was a url.
bluetooth and nfc must be on for both phones
i was able to send pix to my nephew's s3 fine on my lumia 920

Indeed bluetoothes of both devices were on otherwiese they would not receive the new files with notification messages. Lumia 920 also popped up a message of reminding the user to turn on the bluetooth for both device(s). I shall try my friend's S3 and also S Note 2 again in a few days. I shall report the result. Thank you.
Update:
I tried my friend's Galaxy Note 2 with my Lumia 920 with tap-send (NFC), Galaxy Note 2 indicates a new tag collected and displayed an url: windows.com/SD which could not be accessed, and my Lumia 920 indicates a message of "could not open the file" after the Galaxy Note 2 tap-sent a picture to my Lumia 920. I do not have an extra Lumia 920 for pairing both Lumia 920 devices, therefore I could not say if tap-send in Lumia 920 only works with windows phone 8.
I tried bluetooth only. They both could accept and open a file. Only bluetooth function works well on pairing these 2 devices but not NFC.
Even though, it is kind of disappointing, I am not Nokia fan nor Microsoft windows fan. I still keep the Lumia 920 instead of returning it. I hope Nokia or Microsoft could resolve this problem for the next update. [If a lot of people still buy some expensive phones despite some issues such as navigation and others, Nokia Lumia 920 is not a bad device, I should wait for the corrections made from both Nokia and Microsoft.]
Therefore, I could say that Lumia 920 tap-send does not work on any NFC enabled device.
I google searched with "windows.com/SD"; I got this link " http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/wdk/thread/bd82a522-3c53-4453-a653-967a3427c8fb/ " which points some interesting information related to NFC.
Does it mean that Lumia NFC is not ready yet?
Updated on December 26, 2012. (on writing/reading NDEF formatted NFC tags)
According to a review of Lumi 920, NFC in Lumia 920 only works with NFC enabled windows device. I launched an NFC Interactor app, I could write/read on NDEF formatted tags. I have tried the list of some the features in that app (the list of full features in this app: Smart Poster, URI, Telephone call, Mailto, SMS (which required NFCsms), Social Network, Windows Phone 8 Settings, Launch App, Nokia Accessories, Android Application Record, Geo Ta, Near Speak (requiring NearSpeak app?), Text and Custom). I could SMS to a group of people, and access to some settings of my Lumia 920 but I need to manually turn those settings(eg. bluetooth, airmode and etc) on/off. It was due to the Windows 8 not allowing automatically to turn those on/off.
Hello. When I connect LeEco Max 2 on my computer, it does not come out USB computer connection and immediately begins to charge. He does not give me a choice – Media device MTP, Camera PTP or Charge only. I suspect I may have chosen Dont’show this interface again. How can I fix this?

This could be an issue with the cable. You should be able to find the MTP options in the developers settings if that helps you.
I tried three different cables and I did not find MTP options in the developers settings. Where else do I search for them?

Are you using Android 8? If so the notification is just under the clock when you open the quick settings. Its really easy to miss it. If you're on Android 7 or 6 I don't know why it doesn't show you.
Android 6.0.1
Heyyo, if you're using Windows 10 it probably screwed up the drivers. Happens with TWRP as well.
You'll need to change it like this
https://photos.app.goo.gl/nRYfpAZ0i50GuM512
Otherwise? Try a different PC or USB port to see what happens
I've the same issue, did someone find any solution?
