Hi hope someone can help or point me in the right direction. Ive already unlocked/rooted, haved CWM installed on my phone and S-on. I want to S-off but revolutionary program says my device isn't supported. I have a Evo 3D GSM European Hboot 1.49.0018. How can i get the S-off? I tried to flash infected eternity Rom and bootlooped each time i tried. I wiped dalvik, data, cache etc...i was wondering if S-on has anything to do with me bootlooping? Thanks for your advice.
ROMS that are not using stock kernel (Please correct me if I'm wrong, I only been here on the EVO 3D forums for 2 weeks ), can't be flashed with S-ON.
I believe you can downgrade your hboot and go S-Off. How that exactly works, I have no clue unfortunately.
Okay....i've tried to flash 2 different Roms now and all i get is a boot loop. I just tried to flash shooter beats but with no luck. Can anyone else shed some light on this issue? Does anyone know how to downgrade Hboot to turn S-off? Or point me in the right direction please?
I had that same hboot and was able to downgrade it using Flashmaniac's tool in the Dev section. Just follow his instructions, it worked for me. It does state, however, you must have one of the listed cid numbers (which I had, you'll need to check yours). There's a free app on the market called cid checker, it will find this info for you.
Once you've downgraded your hboot you can follow the normal procedure to s-off with Revolutionary.
Hope this helps
By the way, I've heard you can still flash roms if you're S-on if you extract the boot.img from the zip file of the rom and flash this first through fastboot. I'm not sure exactly what the procedure is but there are threads about it in the Dev section. Please don't try it without reading up first though, as I don't know much about the risks involved, if any.
Mine was 0018, but I downgraded it to 0007 using this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1495657&highlight=vodaphone+hboot

Please give thanks if i've helped you!
Thanks for your responses friends. I managed to flash a rom with a stock kernel through CWM as was indicated in one of the posts. Thanks for that. I'm going to give the other options to S-off and downgrade a try tonight. I think the Evo is a lot harder to manage than the atrix and razr! I modded them phones no problem! I'll feedback to you tonight and let you know how it went.
Okay...i've downloaded flashmaniac tool for downgrading Hboot. I put my phone in USB debug mode, charge only, extract and run step 1, but nothing happens! I even tried step 2 but nothing! It seems that the program isn't seeing my phone. I don't have HTC sync installed, and i have the HTC drivers. So, i cant figure out whats wrong. I've even allowed install of unknown sources on my phone. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance.
Did you make sure usb debugging was checked in settings??

hello i had problems with my unlocked, rooted but S ON evo with 0018 Hboot...
if you are S ON and want to flash a rom, here's the way :
1 Be near your PC.
2 extract boot.img from the zip you want to flash
3 flash the rom into recovery
4 DON'T REBOOT !!!
5 Power Off
6 go to fasbtoot USB
7 fastboot flash boot boot.img
8 reboot
9 done, worked for me
Hey,
My 3VO is not possible to S-OFF atm so I'm stuck with S-ON. To install ROMS that require S-OFF its easier to just enter recovery via fastboot. But that requires a computer.
The other solution is HTC Dumlock: http://teamw.in/project/htcdumlock
Using that method you can install roms on your phone without a computer.

Also it is a lot easier to just enter recovery from fastboot and install the ROM normally. Doing all that is just unnecessary to my knowledge.

your right, i remember back in the days, the first flash of my n1...
i applied this method after a normal flash and being stuck on withe htc screen... and someone on another thread told me to flash into recovery then flash the boo.img.
but yes do the whole flashing via fastboot is OK but in some roms like leedroid you cant choose some elements via aroma installer.
I myself can't say if aroma Installer works threw recovery via fastboot because I simply haven't tried it. I personally use HTC Dumlock and used it the other day to install LeeDroid. Aroma installer worked fine, everything worked except for the touch screen interface on the installer, had to use volume buttons, no big deal though.
I also have this Hboot and it can't be temporary rooted.
Is there any way to just root device with this Hboot? I don't want S-off.
Thanx for all your responses. After 8 hours today, i finally managed to s-off my evo. It wasn't easy. I finally changed my Hboot to 1.49.0007, using official firmware with European Hboot (PG86IMG.zip), xvi32.rar hex editor, adb, and fastboot. I had to relock my device through the process, and then use HTCDEV to unlock it once again. Once unlocked, i used revolutionary to gain root, recovery, and to S-off. There were a few tweaks which i had to make to get it to work. If anyone needs help please message me and i'm more than willing to help! I'm currently running Infected Rom Eternity 3.5 Nightly with no problems.

Yes there is, you have to unlock it with the HTC unlock tool (This will wipe your device so backup your phone, it will not wipe your SD card though):
http://htcdev.com/bootloader/
Download this onto your SD card:
http://downloads.androidsu.com/superuser/Superuser-3.0.7-efghi-signed.zip
Then download this pack of files onto your computer:
http://www.mediafire.com/?49156dz8d36xva3
After you have unlocked your bootloader with the HTC Tool.
Reboot into bootloader > fastboot and plug in a USB
Double click Open cmd in the pack of files you downloaded and type in "fastboot flash recovery recovery-GSM.img" (or recovery-CDMA.img if you have a CDMA phone)
When that is all done, boot into recovery mode and do a full backup. (nice to have a backup of complete unmodified stock ROM).
Last step, while staying in Recovery press install from zip file and find
Superuser-3.0.7-efghi-signed.zip
When thats all finished just reboot and you should have a rooted stock ROM with S-ON

I agree, the E3D is a nightmare to mod compared to other Android phones! Glad you got there in the end
I'm lost as to where to begin. I'm currently looking for sprints ics ota zip to try and flash and can't find it.
My phone is currently on Hboot 1.58 with S-on and no Rom installed. I can't install any old roms because of the hboot. Any direction would be helpful

Sounds like you're in a pickle. I don't think the ruu is out yet.
I can only think of 1 thing that'll work, although their might be other options. Try to downgrade your hboot using unknownforces method. I don't think you have to be in the android system for it to work.
Not sure if it works on hboot 1.58 but I don't see why it wouldn't.

i can't attempt unknownforces method because i can't flash a .zip. It'll give an error about older/newer hboot before it starts updating.
also i've already tried using HTC's dev unlock, but it gives another error regarding older/newer hboot
Just install one of the new ROMs and do the wire trick to S-Off. Then you can downgrade your Hboot. Virus has a stock rooted ROM in the dev section. I used that ROM when I did the wire trick. Now I'm back on Devil Toast with eng 1.04 Hboot.
Edit- Just noticed you said you tried to do HTC unlock but can't. So you're saying you are S-On Locked without a ROM? How is that even possible?

As long as your LOCKED S-ON, and not RELOCKED S-ON, take that thing to a repair center. If they don't have the Sprint ICS RUU (which I doubt they do) to restore your phone, they'll give you a new one.

Same situation but I am unlocked hboot, s-on, 1.58, 4ext recovery... tried PG86IMG.zip into sdcard: a) with twr 1.1, it says older version b) with newer zip, it boots to hboot then loads then it goes back to hboot with no "press power" option.
I need help my EVO 3D is stuck on the second screen that comes up as it boots. It has been unlocked (HTC dev) flashed (4ext) and has a custom rom (Shooter Sense 3.6) on it. I can get it into the bootloader, and into the recovery, but cleverly i forgot to make a stock backup and can't revert from where im at.
Hboot- 1.49.0012

the reason its not booting is probably because you didnt flash the boot.img using fastboot. that is required to get roms to boot when you are s-on.
first install the rom from recovery.
then extract the boot.img from the rom zip file(probably in the kernel/shooteru folder) then place it in the folder where you have adb, fastboot and AdbWinApi.dll which you used to unlock.
then open cmd. change directory to the folder containing adb/fastboot.
Connect your phone in bootloader mode and make your it says "fastboot usb"
then type in cmd "fastboot flash boot boot.img"
it should do a process and show that it completed.
then reboot and it should boot up.

go to recovery. do factory reset in 4ext and wipe cache+delvik
then install rom.
then flash boot.img in bootloader mode
Its still not working. stuck on the boot screen still. after manually booting with fast boot.
you could make your life so much easier by doing s-off. the rom you are trying to flash requires a newer firmware(which requires s-off).
I think you can update your firmware using an ICS RUU. or you could take the OTA update if its available

Last time i flashed BiParanoid JB ROM. It wasn't a good ROM for me, because for ex. videos on YT hasn't appeared. After that I decided to change the ROM to Cool ICS. And that's the point. The phone stucks on hTC logo and then restarts and so on. I tried to flash another ROM - mwakious and the result was the same. So what is the problem and what I have to do ?

hboot 1.49.1107

BTW, I am a noob, so please don't ''bark''
Are you using 4ext recovery, If so, go to wipe and format everything except sdcard and re flash the rom
( Don't ask me for help as I couldn't care if your phone explodes, eh! )
Thx for the answer, I did that but It is still bootloopin' and rebootin'.
Before you flash the rom pull your battery and go into recovery through bootloader, after the rom flashes again pull your battery and start your phone, that's what I did when I used coolexe rom once. Btw video can be played on cm10 by 2 methods, 1 download mx player and select sw decoder 2nd developer options select disable hw overlays, bam videos play, although I prefer the first method
( Don't ask me for help as I couldn't care if your phone explodes, eh! )
But what do you mean by ''pulling battery'' ? I can't take out it, otherwise Evo won't turn on ( while it's charging, of course).
Pull the battery and put it back in, sorry I should have been more descriptive.
( Don't ask me for help as I couldn't care if your phone explodes, eh! )
It is still bootloopin'. What is the reason ? What i have to do ?
Try another hboot

Redownload the ROM then reflash
Flash the boot.IMG from the ROM via fast boot
Change hboot

Find the hboot file and and rename it PG86IMG.zip and put it on your SD card and boot into the boot loader. It will register it and ask to flash it.
So, I can flash boot.img from for ex. mwakious ROM, but where is the hboot located ? I don't have fastboot on my PC, so how can I install it ( but I have it on Evo,of course).
copy PG86IMG.zip to sdcard then go to bootloader and install the zip

Hi, I've had an Evo 3D for a while now but liked the stock features. However I then got a bit bored and decided to install a custom ROM. Here's what I have done so far:
Unlock bootloader (HTC)
Rooted
S-Off using the wire trick
I am running a GSM phone.
I then tried installing the BETA of the PACMan ROM for GSM but get stuck in the loop. It gets to the splash screen of the ROM then reboots. If I go back to my stock ROM restore it's fine. I have 4EXT installed and before installing the ROM did a full wipe except SDCARD.
Any ideas? I can't post on the Dev thread for the ROM ...

Hmm ... so I figured out why it might be boot looping, I had SmartFlash enabled in 4EXT even though I'm S-Off. Now it's not boot looping but just stuck on the slash screen for PACMan.
If I downgrade do I need to S-Off again?
---------- Post added at 04:19 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:04 PM ----------
Answered my own question ... followed the instructions in THIS THREAD and downgraded the HBOOT. Still not loading my ROM, may try reflashing it.
Another update ... it worked! I was running out of ideas and thought I would try ClockworkMod Recovery instead of 4EXT, did exactly what I did before in terms of wiping cache, etc. and hey presto it came up! So maybe worth trying if you're S-Off.
I must admit I put off doing S-Off but I wish I had done it earlier, make things so easier!
Thanks in advance for any help. I know there are a ton of posts about issues like this, but it seems the more I read the more confused I get. Anyway, if someone can help clarify my situation that would be great.
I just got a Rezound after about 18 months with a Thunderbolt and the steps to root and s-off are obviously different. I rooted using the "Scottys noob friendly guide" and that went well. Next, I attempted to get S-off using Control Bear and the wire trick. After several attempts I got the wire trick timing correct, was no longer sober! Then here is where I think things got screwed up. The Control Bear program did not ask if I wanted to install a custom hboot it just sort of started running on its own. I let it do its thing, the phone rebooted into Hboot and it now reads:
***TAMPERED***
***LOCKED***
VIGOR PUT SHIP S-OFF RL
H-BOOT-2.25.000
RADIO-1.22.10.0421r/1.22.10.0424R
OpenDSP-v13.6.0.7611.00.0104
eMMC-boot
Apr 12 2012, 16:47:46
Long story short I do not believe that Control Bear successfully installed the custom hboot. I can no longer fastboot boot or flashboot flash a revovery image (recovery-ra-vigor-3.15-gnm). I am able to boot into the stock ROM, I am still rooted, I am S-off, but without being able to flash/install a revovery image I cannot flash anything. I feel like I am stuck. I thought going S-off and rooted would give me total freedom with the phone.
When I run the command "fastboot boot recovery-ra-vigor-3.15-gnm.img" here is what I get:
downloading 'boot.img'...
OKAY [ 1.411s]
booting...
FAILED (remote: not allowed)
finished. total time: 1.413s
Before I went through these steps I did not read anywhere that going S-off would relock hboot/bootloader to a point that I would not be able to flash anything.
Where did I go wrong? What did I miss?
One solution seems to point towards manually installing the custom JB hboot, but at this point I do not want to haphazardly make any more changes that could potentially leave me with a brick.
Here are my questions:
How do I install a recovery now that I am LOCKED, S-OFF, & ROOTED?
Will flashing the custom JB hboot at this point fix my problem or leave me with a brick?
I own the the phone, it is never going in for a warranty issue, so the TAMPERED flag does not bother me. I would just like to be ale to install AR recovery and go on my happy crack-flashing way. Any help or advice would be appreciated.
Thanks!
You will have to unlock the bootloader to flash a recovery still.
Or you can flash a custom hboot that will allow you to use fastboot commands while locked. That's what the jbear hboot does. Just make sure you flash the jbear hboot version that matches your current hboot version.

There is a link in this thread with an hboot flashable zip of amon ra. You didn't do anything wrong. The juopunutbear method has a locked hboot, so fastboot flashing is a no go. You can use a hex edited 2.27 hboot by vinyl freak so you can regain fastboot flashing, but it's pretty unnecessary once you s-off.

By the way, you really should look into running a newer RUU. You still have GB radios, and they're pretty dated.

Hey Thanks everybody for responding so quickly!
OK, just so I understand things correctly:
1) I can put the latest amon ra PH98IMG.zip on the root of my sd card, boot into bootloader, let it do its thing, then I will then have a working recovery that I can use to flash, backup, etc?
2) I do not need to update a custom hboot, but I can if I want and should cause no ill effects to my phone? For example follow the direction on the Unlimited.IO website for flashing thier custom hboot?
3) My radios are outdated? That stinks. Assurion just sent me this Rezound brand new and in the box a few days ago to replace a replacement Tbolt that went bad. It was running ICS, but you say the radios are old. Hmm, could you suggest an RUU that I should run and do I simply rename the RUU PH98IMG.zip, but it on the root of my SD card, bootloader and let it update? Seems straight forward enough. The way i understand it flashing an RUU will not remove S-off, but will it remove root and will I then have to unlock again through HTCdev?
Thanks agaiin for helping this new Rezound owner out!

1) yes
2) yes
3) yes your radios are old, but you can stay that way..alot of rezounds out there are running old firmware.
here is a website that has all the RUU for the rezound http://shipped-roms.com/index.php?category=android&model=Vigor
yes, the ones with zip in the title can been put on the SD card as "PH98IMG.zip" and it will update everything. The ones listed on that website as "EXE" are run through windows while your computer is tethered to phone.
yes flash a RUU will not remove S-off, but will remove root and replace Hboot and recovery with stock

Or you can flash a custom hboot that will allow you to use fastboot commands while locked. That's what the jbear hboot does. Just make sure you flash the jbear hboot version that matches your current hboot version.

Would you please clarify one more question?
My current hboot version is HBOOT-2.25.000 and my firmware version is 3.14.605.12 71ORD. Does this mean I would need to to install JB ICS 3.14.605.5 HBOOT - 2.25.2525?
Thanks again.

1. Yes. However, I would recommend TWRP recovery. Amon Ra is also great though, so if you have any doubts about using a different recovery, stay with AR for now.
2. Here are some hboots based on the latest release. The only difference between them and stock is that they say different things at the top instead of Locked. After you flash the RUU, flash the one you choose as PH98IMG.zip through bootloader, just like you flashed the RUU.
3. Here is the latest RUU. The method you described for flashing it is correct, but to be safe, you can do it twice. The RUU will replace your hboot and your recovery, and thereby remove root. It will also wipe your internal memory, so back it up if you keep anything there. You will not need to unlock with HTCDev - you will never need to do that once you're S-Off. After you flash the RUU, you will only need to flash the unlocked hboot to re-unlock your bootloader (step 2), and then flash the recovery (step 1). Then, from recovery, you can flash ROMs, kernels, mods, etc.

Yes that is the right JuopunutBear HBOOT if you want to install it. But you dont really need it.
And after a second look of your radio and firmware, you do have the latest over the air release, only thing newer is the Global RUU...PH98IMG_ICS_4.03.605.2.zip
If I was you, I would just flash the recovery, to get root
Thanks for the help folks. I have succesfully reinstalled AR recovery now going to try to flash my first ROM as S-Off!

You're absolutely right. The radios that he has are from the ICS ota. That was my fault. The newest radios are from the unofficial global leak.

Glad you got it working. Happy flashing!
Yeah, All is good. Recovery installed and a newly flashed CM9! Had been waiting forever for ICS to come to my old Tbolt and now that I have the Rezound this is sweet sweet butter... I am really looking forward to learning what this phone is all about and flashing all of these ROMS, that may be old news for a lot of you all, but are brand new to me!
Thanks again.
