I guess you have the wrong software installed for the country or region you live in.
Where do you live?
Look in 2 of my signature for the correct software and in 3 how to flash it.

Look on www.sammobile.com/firmware for your rom? With the wrong software you will get no Kies or OTA update.

I had the same problem. Just follow these steps to resolve it. Before following there steps, change your CSC to something other than 'KOR'.
1) Root the phone.
2) Run the triangle away application to reset the counter.
3) After that's done, wipe the data on the phone (volume up+home+power button) and select the options:
a) wipe data/factory reset
b)wipe cache partition
c) advanced - wipe dalvik cache
4) Remove battery.
5) Put the battery back in and hold (volume down+home+power button).
6)Start ODIN and restore to the firmware that was ON THE PHONE.
7)Reset the phone to default after thats done.

You could download the UK Unbranded Firmware (BTU). Flash it the same way as you did and then change the CSC to BTU and follow the steps above to get KIES working again.

One question: the CSC from *#1234# on my phone displays I9300DBTALF4 where DBT is from a Germany firmware, and and the CSC from *#272*IMEI displays BOG (France)? Or there is no connection between these 2 names?
No need to root...
Use step 2 and 3 in @gee2012's signature..he made the second post.
go to samfirmware.com, register and search for galaxy s3 Romanian firmware.
Download rom to your PC and extract the zip.(password is samfirmware.com)
Then follow the guide in gee2012's step 3 on how to flash with Odin..
Sorry for double but I need an opinion:

Are you trying to use Odin to get back to stock? If so, you can't have Kies running at the same time. You've got to kill the Kies process in order to use Odin.

It's normal that Kies says your phone can't be update. The real solution to getting back to stock is NOT Kies... It's Odin.
If you have Odin installed, you can simply download the stock ROM of your choice and use Odin to select it via PDA, NO REPARTITION, NO PIT (or you'll brick your phone!) and just flash and reboot. Do a factory reset via the dialer by entering *2767*3855# when you get rebooted, and everything should be fine.
Kies might fail to recognize when updates are available for your phone. It will say that your phone cannot be updated. It lies, in a sense, because it can be updated, but just not through Kies, which is what it actually means when it says this. The most current ROM versions usually drop here weeks before they show up in Kies, so don't trust what it says.
When I got my phone about 3 days ago, it came with a carrier specific ROM based on KH2, and Kies told me the same thing. I flashed to KH3 via Odin, which removed all the junk that the carrier installed and I didn't want.
I want to return an S2 to stock...I'm in the UK, will XWLPD be the right firmware? I must admit I'm a bit confused as to the second link there : XWLPD Stock Kernel....do I need to flash both these things?
Essentially I want to sell the phone and have it as much back to original as possible. It is rooted and has CWM on it. It's currently running CyanogenMod 9.
I can't get any Phone / PDA / CSC info, because *#1234# doesn't work.
Use CheckFus to download whatever is the proper and latest ROM for your country and operator.
CheckFus is here: http://fus.nanzen.se/
Then using Odin flash the ROM to your phone, reboot, wipe everything and the phone will be as good as new.
If that answered you, click "Thanks".
Flash just the tar.md5, its the whole package

No. The full package is the first link, which has the stock kernel contained within already. The stock kernel in the second link is provided as a separate package just in case you need it, in the event you want to flash the stock kernel back after you've either flashed an insecure kernel to root, or flashed a custom kernel.
Dont forget to format the internal sd-card

I'm thinking of reverting back to stock as well, what are your reasons? I love the customisation of the AOKP ROMs but im really picky and some features dont work such as WiFi direct which is putting me off. Non AOKP ROMs dont have this issue but they dont support live lock screens so there is always something
Very minor but I am just that picky..lol Saying that I might go back to RR 9.6 as that seemed to work well for me. I am trying FOXHOUND atm and it seems good also.
B4 you go back to stock pls try Omega v13, there is stock, ICS or Black&Blue. I use v13 Ics as it's beautiful, truly. Everything just works. If you want AOKP, he even has an Omega v3.0 AOKP that I've heard is good too

Thanks for this. I've done this - how long should it take to reboot? Its gone to the SG2 boot screen and pretty much has stayed there for the last 10 minutes.
EDIT : No worries, went into recovery and erased cache/wipe data - now booting.
If your trying to get to original firmware, there are a few things we need to know.
1.. What carrier/provider are you with.
2.. What original firmware did you have, ie 2.3.3, 2.3.4
Download the original firmware from Samfirmware.com
Because you were on ICS; and you are selling the phone, you need to do more than just factory reset.
1 enter recovery
2 data/factory reset.
3 ( Advanced ), wipe dalvik cache
4 ( mounts & storage ), format system. format data. Format internal storage.
Unzip original firmware once only.
Put the firmware into PDA in Odin
turn off phone and enter download mode.
Connect usb cable to phone/PC
Click start on Odin once you see yellow connection in Odin.
If I was doing this and it was my phone, I would also put the pit file in too. But i shall leave that up to you.
Wait for phone to reboot.
On dial pad phone *2767*3588#
Phone will reset then reboot.
Done.
PS.. do not install custom rom.
If the new owner then wants to upgrade via Kies, he/she can.

I've reinstalled a stock firmware, it all works. It wasn't ever branded and was unlocked when I got it, so to all intents and purposes, it looks like an unlocked, generic S2 now(with UK presets). There was no pit file on what I downloaded -but thanks for your input.....what I didn't do was format all before I tried to install. Once it had gotten stuck, went back into recovery and wiped all these things - now working fine.
For future ref. The pit file, you get from samfirmware.com. Its under flashprograms.
Hope you get a good price for it.

I got a Galaxy S3 around a week back. The CSC was set to COA and it was running the old firmware. KIES used to show the current and latest firmware.
I have updated to the XXALF2 using ODIN and also set the CSC to BTU. However KIES does not show the lastest firmware anymore. Just the current firmware. Does that mean, KIES wont be able to update my phone?
i have done exactly the same & getting the same result in kies, i think you have to be on unmodified rom without flash count triggered? i could be wrong though
Right after the flash. My CSC was set to KOR. However I changed it to BTU using *#1234*IMEI*. I was getting the message that KIES cannot update the firmware when it was on KOR. That message seems to have gone.
This problem is quite confusing.
i flashed mine with stock LF2 BTU but kies states "your device does not support upgrading via kies"
and my CSC shows "CSC:LF2 (H3G)" is this normal?
Hmm. I had that message on KIES when my CSC changed to KOR. After changing it to BTU, that message was gone.
Initially - XXALE8 -COA (KIES showed the version the phone and the latest version).
After flashing - XXALF2 -KOR (KIES states that it wont be able to update firmware).
Now - XXALF2 - BTU (KIES does not show the latest firmware. Just the one on the phone).
I got this problem too i think it`s bcuz i rooted my phone..i have stock firmware btw
I have seen that on a few forums that rooting might trigger that. However I am on the stock firmware only. I haven't rooted my phone.
sry for double post but i fixed my problem
the only thing i had to do was to reset the counter with triangle away
Where is this triangle located?
anyone with rooting experience explain what the problem is or is this normal after rooting?
should i have only flashed PDA & not PHONE & CSC or is that not possible?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1494114
here u can find triangle away all u have to do is install the app and then press reset counter after u open the app
then it will reboot and then u have to press the volume up button to reset the counter
sry for my english
Do I need to root my phone. If so, how and how can I unroot it after using the application?
if ur not rooted u dont need to run triangle away bcuz ur counter is set to 0 by default
there must be another solution for you...just wait to somebody else answer..
i thought even flashing stock with odin without root still bumps up the flash counter?
So I have managed to fix the problem. Here's my solution.
I did that and now KIES is back to normal for me. And now it show XXALF2 (BTU).
How do you fix it & keep root?

Ive rooted using cfroot and kies is still recognising my phone for updates
Although i have not done anything but root
Kies upgrade depends onan actual upgrade for the firmware being on the server .Also the phone codes you present it matching firmware on the server.Root may or may not alter such codes.
Solution ignore Kies join XDA and learn how to flash or download stock firmware .

Try repeating these steps in order..
1. Use Triangle away and reset your counter
2. Download the latest BTU firmware which I think is LG8
3. Flash via Odin
4. Dial *#1234# and check whether all the 3 AP, CP and CSC are the same
5. otherwise change it to BTU
6. Then connect to kies and check whether it detects your phone correctly

I have done this by mistake in the past using odin but I can't understand why it didn't work.
I have now a phone from Australia apparently and kies is not very helpful. I already have the BTU ELLA update but I'm not sure if it would work flashing that with odin. In the past it didn't work and I had to reflash the correct update.
Am I supposed to flash more than just the PDA?

No, just place the correct rom in PDA and flash it. The phone however has a specific sales code and if the installed firmware differs from the device`s country code Kies will not support updates. Only if you have the correct regional rom for your S3.
Thanks.
In the past I had used a BTU Tom instead of the vodafone specific on a i9300 and it had lost the notification bar and touzhwiz crashed.
Once I installed the vodafone specific rom it went back to normal.
I have now come across the ELLA update on a Australian import s3 and just flashed it with kies. Trouble I have with that now is that the bottom shortcuts somehow are stuck and wont be replaced. I will try and reflash the rom tomorrow with odin and if it doesn't work I'd like to try the international version of 4.1.2.
Did you wipe your device after flashing the firmware?
Some carriers do only than little modifications to the device and may cause incompatibilites with the standard roms.
How do I do a complete wipe?

Go to settings, backup and restore and do a data facory reset.
Ah you mean a factory data reset.
When I do that the australian version adds 2 apps which are easily removed and I cannot see anything else there. I also have another issue.
Odin 3.04 does not see my phone. Only odin 1.85 can.
But even that version says that the md5 file I downloaded from sammobile is invalid.
I am going to try this with mobile odin
Right
Tried the btu version with mobile odin and again have the same issue. Notification panel is gone and the touchwiz doesn't work properly.
