Essentially. It is always looking for a better signal, which, in turn, eats more battery.

please post screengrabs of your battery usage... i'm just really wondering what times you people are getting and what is the main battery drainer on different phone...i know it's probably pointless anyway...but still
i will post another one after normal usage during the day...
im running villain rom 1.4...
thanks to all those who'll (<-??) upload a screenie!
If you want more battery life check this thread:

I was just looking through it.
I don't have the Galaxy S 2 but am considering it.
On your screen shot where on earth is that are that shows the graph for wi fi etc or is that an app you have added?

yeah i saw that thread...i just wanted to see how other people batteries are drained...just to have an idea if my battery usage is more or less normal...
Mine's getting very good these days. Admittedly, I've hardly touched it today cos I've been very busy, but still..... 11% in nearly 7.5 hours is pretty impressive! That's with full background synching and wifi on all day.
Fully stock (KE2) and rooted. Other than that all I've done is disable fast dormancy, the wifi sharing app and frozen every app with "sams" in the title.

Go to settings, about, battery usage and click the graph at the top. See my previous post for the same type of info.
hey guys, I'm running CM7 and I have tested several different radios and they were all pretty bad. Does anyone have any recommendations on what I should use? Thanks!
Define "bad."
Speed test are not always accurate, if that's what you're getting at.
Used mr2 and was good. Every upgrade seems to be better. And the newest 802 is ridiculously fast with nice switchovers between Gs and no issues.
I used 2.5 when I was running AO5PTH3ORY... it worked great. I had no issues connecting to 3g and 4g.
+1 802 working great for me. I've been running DroidTh3ory's AO5P roms, based on cm7.

Sorry, by bad i meant terrible battery life. Maybe its my area. No matter what radio I have ever used my 4g and 3g would always switch back and forth and I think that drains battery pretty quick..

Try recalibrating your battery if you have not. I would also stay off LTE as much as possible unless you need it. LTE just drains your battery like a thirsty man does a glass of water.

I only do it when I feel my battery life is degrading. That could happen any time you so a lot of updating.
When i was using 2G the battery life was good for a whole day. How i have switched my connection to 3G, the main problem is the battery life as it drains in a half day. How can i control this ? which application is draining my battery life? what are the other systems that can save the battery life and extend it to a day time when using 3G????

How on Earth should we know? lol
have a read round the many many many battery threads

Thats becoz I really need to have a solution for this problem as I am not able to use my mobile effectively...
Its MOST URGENT
Desperately looking for a solution ....
Help me if u can really do it
learn to manage your phone better, is it rooted? either way try this, Unless you actually use 3G (I assume most of us use wifi) go to..
Settings > Wireless and network > Mobile networks and switch network mode to "GSM only"
Not only will you get better battery life, but you'll get a stronger signal too.
hope this helps your problem.

I recently switched phones and would like to use my Vibrant as a WIFI only/MP3 player device. I went back to Fishman's Bionix because I figured this would be as good as any for battery life. I deselected "use packet data" but the device still seems to be searching for a signal (perhaps just a signal for phone?). In 6 hours of not using the phone, the battery goes from 100% to 94% (I have charged and recharged many times so this is not a calibration issue), which seems excessive for no use with this setup. Battery usage shows "cell standby" as the biggest drainer. I tried airplane mode and get similar results. Is there something I'm missing, such as an additional setting to prevent radio use entirely or an apk to delete? Thanks very much, guys!
ETA: There are no unusual apps in running services or partial wakelocks in betterbatterystats. I also considered installing an ICS ROM without gapps but that seemed excessive.
Try this, its a ROM made for what you want

wow, can't believe i never noticed that before. I'll check it out for sure. Thank you. Of course, I'd still like to hear suggestions about how to work with traditional ROMs, too
Well I checked out Moschiach but no working bluetooth and no google apps. I would like to use google play store at least. Any other ideas?

Well, can you not use a normal ROM with airplane mode on, then toggle wifi to be on? Didn't just test it, but I'm nearly positive that you can.

I tried using airplane mode but the drain is the same. I've stripped down the ROM quite a bit. Barely any apps. Not sure why the standby life isn't better with no use.

Don't know if it will work but worth a try, flash a 2.2.x gapps zip on top of it.

Guys is this true that modem on ur phone also affects the battery life on ur phone ?
I don't know for sure, but I'd guess that it would because different modems affect signal strength and signal strength directly affects battery life.
That's how I see it anyway.
I'm a product of the system I was born to destroy!

No.
Only if it has no signal and is constantly searching i would think but could be wrong!

Yes, it does.
Are we talking about an amount of juice similar to what the screen uses ? Of course not.
But if the modem you're running means the phone is struggling to get/keep a strong connection to a nearby tower or constantly has to search for one, you're going to use more juice.
How much juice ? I'd be surprised if it amounted to more than a few % over a day, but I can't recall anyone on here claiming to have measured it.
