So, I have a dead phone wth a cracked screen. Was running what is in my sig. No CWM.
NO INSURANCE.
It happened on my way to work, I suspect the battery was drained. I thought it was charging in the car but the charger was loose from the car adapter and I can't see it easily because of the way my car is made. So it rebooted itself - which it always did periodically - when I parked so I put it in my purse as I walked to my office. When I pulled it out it was stuck on the boot animation screen. So I pulled the battery and rebooted. It got to the HTC white screen and I think that's as far as it got then it died.
Have tried all the various battery pull / plug in / adb / power+vol down orders and nothing gets it going. There is absolutely no orange light showing up at all when it gets plugged in. I left it plugged into the wall overnight and still nothing.
Took battery to Verizon, they got it charging in another phone and said it read around 40-50% charged. (I had left the phone plugged in several hours at work to see if eventually something would happen.) So I don't think it's the battery since I'm pretty certain it was dead and now has a charge. Don't know if it was able to charge through my phone or not, but I doubt it was charged that high when all this happened and I'm sure it didn't get charged that much in the Verizon employee's phone.
Ordered a battery + charger from Amazon. Got the battery and tried that but no go. I don't know if the battery has any charge or not. When I get the charger I'm going to attempt to charge both batteries to 100% and hopefully one of them works. I've read several posts here about how it seems to be a matter of voodoo. Several people with the same symptoms just popped in a different battery and then it was fine.
So...
OPTION 1 - This all happened Monday, Aug. 6. Does anyone think there is any chance that if I show that I had the cracked screen before that and my phone was working fine that I can get a warranty replacement? I would think that they will blame it on my dropping it and will not give it to me but I'm wondering if anyone has been in this situation before. As of now I have not let Verizon know that my screen is cracked.
OPTION 2 - My other alternative was to fix the screen then try for the replacement and blame the ICS update. However, in the repair thread there is mention of little tabs that are not on the replacement and that the capacitive button lights are messed up because of that. So I don't think that will fly.
OPTION 3 - Buy a phone from someone. I found a listing claiming they can get Rezounds for $100 even if you're not eligible for an upgrade yet, that they can "get one". Is this most likely a scam? If not, I'll just go this route since I can also add insurance this time.
Also, if I did somehow manage to get a warranty replacement, does anyone know if I can then get insurance on that phone?
TIA for any advice.
:crying:

verizon is pretty strict on insurance. If you don't add it when you first get a new phone, they usually won't let you add it. You can always try online and see what happens.
I doubt they will warranty your phone with a cracked screen. They will send you a phone, but you will be charged on your account.
As far as the 100 dollar rezound, that sounds too good to be true.
i, and the other employees at my store, will not even waste our time trying to warranty a phone with any crack in the screen, even if there's a good explanation for it. you can warranty it if you want, but you'll see a $300 charge on your next bill because of that crack. no physical damage would ever be covered unfortunately, even if you have a really good story
Even if you can prove the crack was there before the issue it won't matter. The crack supersedes any other issue.

if its only 300 to get a refurb, might be worth it depending on what you can find locally...

Hm. really only $300? I thought if I did it through them it would be $600+. Maybe I'll just do that considering I got the phone for 1 penny initially.
But I do have some GREAT stories!!! Didn't you notice my text?
If buying off Craig's List, how do I check the ESN or whatever... I don't know what it's called.
What else does one look for? I can check the unlock/relock... what if they did the s-off trick, would they be able to relock it without me being able to tell? I think I remember reading that that's possible after s-off.
I might rather just spend $300 for the peace of mind. jayochs... if I did that through Verizon, since it's now a new phone for me can I add insurance on it? Or will they not care or worse, consider me a high insurance risk and blacklist me?!?! =:0
call and double check.....usually it's $300 but maybe that's only for basic phones.
and i don't think they'll let you add it
Man if you going to pay 300 for a rezound look around a little bit and check for cheaper on here or craiglist.

What other phones should I consider? I picked the Rezound over the Nexus. Since I've had it I don't know what other phones have come out. I really like the Rezound though, except for the fact that it no longer works. heh.

Yeah, I've checked the L.A. CL for Rezounds, anywhere from $100 (possible scam) to $250.. But bledstol (sp?) made it sound like he didn't think the Rezound in particular was worth it so just wanted to know what he thought was. iirc though, he went to a Nexus which I def do not want.
Rezound is still a top phone. Maybe the razr maxx if you need battery life. I doubt you could find the new incredible lte for a decent price.

Could always try to call in and try to add insurance. Say that you bought it off Amazon and added insurance at the check out and you thought it was on your account. Playing dumb can get things done haha. If they do let you add insurance to your line, hit up Asurion and pay the deductible, get your phone and you're g2g. I know Asurion isn't as good as protect cell, but this could be one of your best options.
The video mentions that you can glue the tabs onto the digitizer. I'm not familiar with the part but if it's not that expensive perhaps you can go this direction. Since you need it perfect perhaps make a template with a dremel(if you can borrow one from someone) and a piece of aluminum?

Still have 15 days to return it. Can I say "Ehh its not for me", get my upgrade back, and use it at another sprint store? Or are there any better ideas than that? I want to do this before HTC comes out with another update. Thanks for reading

First pay the deductible then return it within 30 your 30 days
At my store phones need to be in like new condition to be eligible for returns or swaps. So good luck on that.

It's just two little scratches, but to me its devestating. Especially on a gorgeous qHD screen.
Ha oh gosh, not another one of these...Be prepared for people to come out of the woodwork telling you how bad of a person you are..I don't give a damn, but I also try to think about karma and what not..
But to answer your question, yes. Don't go to the all-star Super sprint employee who looks like he/she will bust your balls..go when it is busy, and you can probably get away with returning it or getting it swapped for some other B.S issue you can make up. Such as software or random reboots, and hope they do not notice. If they do notice, worse they will do is turn you away and say we can't take it back, and in that case just use your phone insurance if you have any.

Actually sometimes I do have problems with the phone itself, once in a while since i listen to my music with it, the screen would go ape**** and start making calls on its own, going to the app drawer, tracks keep skipping on it's own, etc
Last week I was reading threads about how we don't need screen protectors. This week im reading threads about scratched screens from lighters and whatnot.

I gotta ask, if scratches are that devastating to you, why weren't you using a screen protector in the first place? A quality screen protector doesn't detract from the screen's beauty, scratches do.
My car has a couple scratches on it. I wonder if the dealer will take it back...
Where does personally responsibility begin? With or without a screen protector, how long do you think your going to keep the scratch & dent gods at bay? You will replace this phone in 1 year or less; is it such an inconvenience now that you would potentially "sell your soul" and do something dishonest?
By the way, I have (2) scratches on my 3D and have no intentions of replacing it. It still works perfectly fine albeit a few hiccups from time to time. Nothing that I dont expect from a device of this type...

I bought the Otter cell phone case which comes with the screen protected and so far I've dropped my phone 3 times accidentally put it in the same pocket as my keys. Open it up to do a little clean up from the dust and the thing looks like I bought it the same day.
It maybe bulky but I know when It is time for me to upgrade I'll get full value for this hotness at radio shack.
When you think of this stuff, you shouldn't tell everyone. Just get some buffer and buff it out. You openly admitted to causing the scratches. If you had a child and he fell on his head... would you return it to your baby momma's vagina and ask for a refund to impregnate another women?

When I got my hero, I put it in a case with a built in screen protector for about 4 months, then someone gave me an otterbox defender where it stayed for 1 year and 4 months. When I swapped out my Hero they told me that they had never seen a screen that was that old, look that beautiful.
It's not too hard to take care of the things you own. I don't necessarily think about karma or anything, but I just know how I want to be dealt with and try to not be a hypocrite by doing the opposite to others. This is why I didn't sell it on Craigslist. The battery was crapping out and I don't think I could have gotten any more from a person on CL than I was offered by Best Buy if I was completely honest with the buyer.
I was just asking for ideas to help, people. No need for "If you dropped a baby, blah blah blah. I'm a douchebag". I get it. I rarely do dumb **** like this, and the scratches piss me off. Anyways, I'll just see if I can get used to it for the next couple of days. If not, I'll probably return it and try to get another one. Thanks for replying.

That's probably your headphones doing that. I had the same problem with 1 pair. They would randomly skip songs in Pandora, make calls, and basically lock up the phone. These were just plain headphones...no mic, etc. I ordered some newer ones with a mic and they've worked find (plus my old ipod ones would work ok as well).
There's plenty of people that screw over Sprint (getting 'work' discounts when you really shouldn't, using insurance to upgrade phones..hello TP2 for 'broken' TP1, etc.). You certainly wouldn't be the first nor the last .
I think the problem is that Sprint won't fix it for a small fee.
Oh wait they used to do that and suddenly stopped. I guess you should just return the whole thing then.

update 1: the first use 50% of battery after full charge. I think this battery has at least 4500mAh.
50% battery for 3 hours of screen time and ~ 20 hours standby. WOW. My stock battery 3:15 - 3:45hours with RootDim and Juice Defender.
So i receive it today. looks sturdy, nice matte black cover. Fits PERFECTLY to my ATT Note also my wall charger. I'll review the battery life later after my first drain, charging now
i am afraid if i buy them under $10 may causes my phone damage.

Welp, I caved in and ordered it. Thanks for the Free Ship code!
I'll report back when I get this.
I know it's ridiculous but I know I'll have some use for this if this works as they claim. Most people tell me to just get a 2nd battery, but for my use, that is not an option. We go on 100mi. bike rides where we track our routes via GPS and the AllSport app to see how we do. Swapping batteries will kill the recording so hopefully this extra 5000maH carries my phone from start to finish and actually record a whole ride.
I went ahead and pulled the trigger. Going camping for a week in Colorado next month and this will be great. Although I am somewhat worried about this causing damage to my phone. Kind of. Don't really know what to think. But hey, it was $10.....

Just ordered 5 seconds ago. For $10, can't go wrong. This bat is at least = or better than stock 2500mah. Summer time coming, extra juice for the phone.
I seriously think other brand battery cost ~ $90. This should be a winner.
For $10 I couldnt help it, went ahead and bit the bullet myself!

I rather not take that chance just to save $10. I got Samsung Original Note battery from AT&T for $20.
If later the quality of the battery has been proven, sure I'll buy. Just like when NewTrent first came out a couple of years ago. No one heard of them but look at the reviews in Amazon now. HUNDREDS of 4.5 stars review.

Anyone order this and get it in yet? Mine should be here Friday. I can't wait to get it and then take off the plastic/covering to see what size battery is actually in it.
I have the 3030 MAh Gold Battery atm, this one is 1/3 the price and sounds promising. The only thing I'm skeptical about, is what the construct is like.
Apparantly there are a few others out there who opened a battery (claiming to have more than 5000mah) and finding out that it was actually two 1500mah batteries taped together, hence the cheap price?
Someone post an update on the battery, and let us know how it works!

That was the Hyperion battery you are talking about. I'm hoping this one isn't the same way.
I got my 2 pack of Anker 2500 mah and they "seem" to be true 2500mah.
Got it in! Pictures
So today I got home from worked, checked the mail, and wooohooo! Manila envelope in the mailbox!
So I opened this bad boy up and immediately started peeling the sticker off. I got the sticker peeled all the way off around and come to find out it is 3 batteries stuck together(with no markings on them). Like an idiot I started to push them out of the little plastic cage-type thing they are held together in and *SPARK* / *ZAP* I got shocked/burnt. It didn't hurt, just a little burn mark on my finger.
So I was reluctant to try it out my phone, but curiosity got the best of me and I put it in and the phone wouldn't even turn on. So I'm sure I fried it.
What is worse, I try to see how the back cover fits, and look what I find...
Its cracked!
So I called up the company, waited on hold for about five minutes.
Talked to a CSR and she said they would be getting a new shipment next week and they would ship a new one out along with a return address label to ship this one back. We'll see how this one fares.
Anyways, here are some more pics -Notice it DOES has the NFC Antenna
Hope this helps someone!
Yup, received it today, update some pix on my 1 post, review battery life later, really sturdy and promising. battery kinda heavy too
Got mine a few days ago. So far so good except for the same issues as above post. The back cover for me was cracked down in the bottom corner where the s-pen slot would be! Cover doesn't properly lock into the phone itself so that one corner hangs lose.
I called the company I ordered it from. The customer service was very good. They did notify me that the shipment is currently sold out and that they'll send me a new cover as soon as new shipments come in.

So I dropped my Galaxy Note and it got a bruise on the corner and that plastic that surrounds the glass. The plastic that surrounds the glass broke off about the size of the character in the brackets (|)... because of this the microphone stopped working so i setup warranty exchange through AT&T and they sent me a new phone.
Well after I sent my old phone back to them they declared it has having physical damage and charged me $599!! I called them and told them in that case just send me my damaged phone back, they said they can't and I can't do anything about it either. They said I have my new phone and should be happy with it. I pointed out that I could have just sold my damaged phone on eBay for at least $200.00 and then got a brand new phone from eBay for less than $599.00 but instead I'm now OUT of the $200 I would've made from selling the damaged phone AND just ended up paying $600 for a "new" phone.. (which is most likely a refurbished).. man I am pissed. Had this ever happened to anyone? AT&T is ripping people off big time!

You're not entitled to return a phone broken. OP dropped the phone and damaged it. Careless damage = not AT&T's fault.
The OP I leaving out the part where they TELL YOU that there will be a $599 charge after they ask you MULTIPLE questions about physical damage on the phone...including the bezel and screen and such....
I work at&t and will be the first to defend a customer especially one from XDA but the OP is wrong in this case...

Yeah, the 14 day return only counts if the phone is in the same condition they sold it in. I was told this by a Rep so it may not be completely correct but this is just from personal experiences.

Ok, thanks for clearing that up. After my post and the comment that followed I was wondering where you send a phone that did get broken from operator error?
Repairs are usually less than replacement.
Now....according to my insurance through ATT, although not from ATT directly, but offered by ATT, I have damage coverage to include water, drop, explosion, zombie world domination etc.
So am I to assume that my insurance is not going to help me ??
(gently setting my phone down on a pillow, in a climate controlled space)......g
ATT is great...got my GNote FREE!!!
Moral of the story....dont drop your phone...

I run into this at work ALL the time. The end consumer does something dumb, and damanges their product, brings it back expecting us to lose money and give them another for free.
If you want coverage, you pay for coverage. Use this as a life lesson that black tie is the way to go.
I had a bad day took a bath and...i fell asleep so the phones corner (were headset plug is) got dipped into the warm tub. Luckly the phone still responds there is no major damage and I see...NO damage or proof water got inside. All waterseals were not voided... it just glitches out on screen and it scares me.
unfortunately its on 4.4.2 kitkatkiller & 0x1 does anyone know if samsung will still fix it or replace it?

One thing you can try is unplugging the battery and leaving the phone in a jar of rice overnight. That has been known to suck the water out of electronics and may help with the glitchy screen. I doubt it'll solve the problem, but it's worth a shot.
As a rule of thumb, I don't recommend that people try to do the Samsung Warranty on their own mess-ups. To quote their warranty website:
Warranty Conditions
...
2. SAMSUNG will repair during its warranty period any product that malfunctions under normal operation, used according to the user manual instructions and the purpose they were designed for.
...
Situations that void this Warranty Coverage
...
6. Damage to the product caused by improper operation or use, by not following user manual instructions or defects caused by external sources, impact, paint cosmetic damage in general, scratches, fissures, evidence of residues of water, sweat or food inside the unit.
...
9. Damage to the product caused by loss or accident such as fire, voltage fluctuations, vandalism, water, sand insects or similar.
...

The warranty doesn't cover water damage or user error. It only covers manufacturer defects or repairs caused by "normal" activities.
Yes, your water stickers aren't betraying the fact that your phone has water damage, but the fact of the matter is that you are, effectively, trying to cheat your way into a free, refurbished phone (on Samsung's dime).
I could go on and on about these types of practices (in fact, I have), but I'm not going to today. I'll just end with a quote that I find applicable to this situation:

I was not hoping to get a fix on samsungs dime since I am well aware its in BER status now, it would be a costly fix but maybe worth it over a new N3 though sometimes BER status devices do go over the MSRP for repair cost...I also heard sprint can do repairs though and charges a fee ontop of it for convenience...but I have no idea if anything else is damaged with the phone.

I'm not sure what BER status is, but if you're willing to pay for the repairs, then my last post was not applicable.
Also, if you're willing to pay for the repairs, Samsung (or Sprint) will be able to fix your phone, regardless of what ROM you have. As far as if it'll be less costly than a new phone, I would expect so, but I can't say how much it'd be.
I still recommend the rice trick and see if that helps.

BER status is what samsung marks devices that have been repaired by 3rd party companies or opened by the user = Beyond Economic Repair. Which means you pay a huge out of pocket premium to the fix versus normal servicing.
I did not have TEP on sprint but the lady added it for me even though I was 35 days into plan and i purchased this phone off swappa, so repair will be free (i think?) unless it needs to be claimed which is 50~200 apparently...either way cheaper then BER service from sammy itself.
and to be a good girl, I wet a cotton swab and activated the water damage indicator on battery so they know its water damaged, even though I wasnt about to because they threw me to curb over intl. use...

Just do a claim on http://phoneclaim.com/sprint the deductible would be 200 just say you dropped it in water and don't say anything about it being rooted to them. And they will send you a new one next day no problem

I took it to local store instead. Phone decided to be perfectly functional, even the guy was like "oh nice rom but how do you see stuff?" but right when I was walking out the phones vibrator turned on. and did not stop, you tap it it turns off you tap it again it turns back on....so they have it at the moment.
edit: they called me said there was no internal damage, etc only some "debris?" and he blew it out and the phones been working fine. So my butt got saved on this one....maybe.

My biggest fear of the G3's thin screen glass happened 12hrs after I received the phone. I didn't hardly even get to use the damn thing. Now I'm just sending it to LG for repair. Yes I could purchase the digitizer and do the repair myself but I honestly don't have the time.

By the looks of the damage...does the little frame dent change everything when it comes to LG just replacing the screen itself? Or do you think they will charge for a refurbished?
huh, I would just be more careful.

Just bad luck on my part. All that damage from a fall from about 2ft. I was talking on the phone with the wife and went to tie my shoe and the rest was history.

They are going to send you what they have in Stock, I damaged my G3 in the rain, the week that it came out.
I paid the $150 deductible, and they sent me a brand new G3 in the box, through Asurion.
Could be refurbished, or it could be new, depending on what they have in stock at the moment.
I would recommend a TPU case, and tempered glass.
You can get both on ebay 2-3 day shipping for less than $20.

I had intended to get the case and tempered glass this friday when I got paid. Dumb luck just couldn't wait till then. lol

Lol. I tried and all but dove on the damn ground to grab it but yeah...didn't work out.
These phones are slicker than the g2..
I got a cheap bump case as soon as I felt the back of this phone
Almost as though grip is the last thing these manufacturers want you to have. Think about it. We have octocore now. And still we have metal frame and plastic backs or soft grip backs with slippery ass metal frame. Makes no logical sense other than looks and money in damges are a sure business ...lol. Remember that time when most phones had that rubberized metal? Hmmmm. Lol

I was more pissed that I didn't listen to myself and get a damn case and glass screen protector. Just wish the damn glass wouldn't of shattered. I could of lived with a little dent in the frame but the whole thing going out just poured salt into the wound.
Yup, did the same. Fell 2 feet, exploded. My replacement is in an Otterbox
lol, i was afraid of this happening when the wife had hers hit the ground. she had it stuffed under her leg in the seat and when she got out, lol, yeah it went flying. luckily it just put a small ding in the frame. she was REAL lucky.
I wish that was all I got....ending up with both really hurt.
Consumers vote with their wallets for thin phone with thinner bezels. Unfortunately, that translates to more fragile phones, too.

yeah, she was extremely lucky..no money to replace/ fix it. but we have cases and the hard glass protectors in route and should see them by Christmas, as well as my replacement phone. (radio went dead, sprint tech said its a common thing. who knows, just glad my is being replaced.)

Common? I doubt it. I don't think I've read another post here, or on the other big Android forums, about the radios dying. I'm sure it happens, but I don't think it's common.

Sure, most cell phone owners aren't on these forums. But many people do join when they have a problem. I actually think we see more problems on the forums than the population in general.
