I tried to update my P7510 wifi tab using the "About device" ---->"Software update"----->Update button in settings, but for some reason this button is not active; when I touch it nothing happens. It used to work till a few months ago and used to tell me there are no updates available. But for some reason it is not working anymore. I tried to update to ics using Kies but it cannot read the tablet.
I wonder if there is a solution to make the "update" button active again.

Thanks for the tip. I actually managed to install ICS on the tablet by following a convoluted semi-procedure that only works some of the times!
I read on some forum (do not remember where as I read a lot of stuff online in many forums to find a solution for this) that the trick to this is to use the wireless connection capability of Kies at the same time that the tablet is connected to the PC via the cable. It took a few trials and errors to get it right, but eventually it worked and although Kies kept saying that nothing is connected to it, it actually somehow somewhere in its program understood that the tablet is indeed connected to Kies via cable and so it gave me the permission to update the firmware and install ICS.
By the way my tablet is not rooted. I think the problem initially happened a few months a go when I uninstalled (or stopped, not sure) the "update" task of android. From then on, the tablet could not connect to its server to see if an update is available.
On a separate note, ICS seems fine to me but the lag in video/live stream issue is not good. I also hope like many others here for Samsung to come up with a fix for this soon.

So after searching the vast horizons of XDA I haven't found an answer that really helped me. Nor have I found someone with this distinct issue. I have an unlocked Samsung Vibrant. I have not rooted it. I updated to J16 with that P.O.S. Kies Mini a few months ago. I hadn't noticed this problem until the last month or so but I haven't had time to sit down and curse at my computer long enough or offer supplications to Google until now. I've just been using Awesome Drop to get what few files I wanted onto my phone. I've had enough of that now. And...I also want to update it to Froyo but I can't do that if I can't get my computer to see my phone. I'm running a Toshiba Satellite A205 with Windows Vista 32bit.
I have checked the drivers and as far as I can tell, I'm using the right ones. I downloaded Kies Mini again today (I deleted it after I was finished with J16 because I wanted it as far away from me as possible) and it seemed to say something about downloading drivers as well. I tried plugging in my phone. Nothing new. So, I went in search of drivers again. I have searched and tried a few different ones but nothing has solved my problem.
The phone charges fine from my laptop. It hooks up immediately and charges without a problem. Unfortunately, my phone seems to regard the PC as a complex wall-wart. Debugging on/off, USB Settings on Mass Storage, Kies, or Ask on connection, it doesn't matter. It doesn't give me the option to "mount" as it has in the past. It doesn't do anything except charge. I've seen some people say it's a problem with their cables (I've only got one at the moment) but since my phone charges fine, how can it be a problem with the cable?
Only thing I hadn't tried was a factory reset. So, I sucked it up and tried that. Nope. No change. At this point I'm wondering if it's a hardware problem, not a software problem.
I'm out of ideas. Anybody else?
Well you can always root it, install ROM manager from the market, install clockwork recovery, download the ROM you want to install in flashable .zip format from your phone and flash away. A new ROM might fix your USB issue.
If you don't want to root it, see if you can get into download mode, and flash a new ROM using Odin. I would check with a different cable first, just to be sure that's not the problem though. It might save you some headaches.
If it was me, I would just root it and load a custom 2.2 ROM. I would also get Titanium Backup from the market and backup my apps and would do a nandroid backup from recovery before flashing anything new just to be on the safe side.
There's some good info on how to do most of that in this sticky post.

Hello!
I'm new to the forum!
I have a galaxy tab 10.1 that is 16GB.
I recently kept hearing about KIES.
So I installed the program. However, whenever I connect my tablet to my computer, KIES wouldn't recognize my tablet.
The only way I can connect the tablet with KIES is through KIES wifi on the tablet setting, which only let's me sync and won't let me update softwares.
Am I the only one having this problem with KIES? or is it just me?
Is there certain things I have to try before trying to connect the tablet?
an answer would be greatly appreciated
p.s.
I have tried reinstalling the driver few times through the connection troubleshoot... it didn't help

I have the exact same problem, have you found a solution yet?
Kies is a POS
I have been busy for almost a year on getting Kies to recognise my tablet. And even though quite a few people have got it working, none of the mentioned solutions work for my situation, except for the factory reset (i.e. wipe your tablet into factory status).
But alas, whenever I reinstall my software Kies will no longer recognise my tablet, and the software is run-of-the-mill stuff, all from Google Play.
So, I just bear it, and wait until the OTA gods are smiling down on me. Once in a while I update/upgrade Kies, re-test that it still does not work, and put Kies in the freezer.
If you try all solutions found in these fora (and not just xda) you might be lucky and find one that works for you, but lower your expectations.
So, probably best is to make backups, wipe to factory reset, get Kies to update and reinstall/restore your backup.
Just out of principle I myself will not be doing that as I will not let Kies dictate my actions. But that is just me.

i know this is super late, i'm sorry >.<;;.
So I didn't have to reset my tablet. Once the ICS update for my tablet was finally released, Kies started working too!
I hope you already figured it out..

ICS by itself worked momentarily on KIES, but 'lost it' again. But the latest KIES release seems to have solved most of the problems. The only problem left for me is that KIES forgets my tablet after I connect another tablet... So connect one P7510 and it recognises it, connect a second P7510 and it recognises that one, but then connecting the first one again and KIES will not recognise it anymore.
Independent of Firmware version (ICS on both) and KIES version... Tried to install an old version of KIES: no luck. Did al the bells and whistles (connect over Wifi and USB at same time and remove Wifi, USB debugging, re-install drivers, KIES, complete cleanup and reinstall) but nothing works anymore. Only a complete Windows factory recovery and install KIES works fine. Not a solution!
Eagerly awaiting JB update for my unlocked, stock I9300 (UK BTU).
Trying to do things "by the book" and using KIES to check for updates.
Yesterday KIES announced that it needed to do some kind of update related to firmware...
Now, whenever I try to connect it reports "failed to retrieve device information" and doesn't connect.
I've tried re-installing KIES, and it managed to connect once, after which I get the same message whenever I try again.
I've tried disabling antivirus etc and using their connection troubleshooter, all to no avail.
NOT HAPPY; very bad time for this to happen.
OS is windows 7 64 bit.
Anyone else with the same problem? Ideas?
Thanks

same think happened to me with KIES. I managed to fix it by couple of times applying that fix connectivity problems thingy from the menu. I've had to reboot the phone too.
You might also want to try re-installing samsung drivers for

Thanks for the advice. I tried re-installing KIES and the drivers but it only connected once after their "necessary update"
I'm sure that it's this latest KIES update that has screwed it; was fine until today.
When I tried the troubleshooting wizard, it then told me it was an incompatible phone ;-(
Hopefully if it's a common problem, Samsung might eventually recognise and fix it.
I heard KIES was flakey, now I know
OK, I think that I have hopefully found a solution.
I started KIES by right-clicking the icon and chosing "run as administrator" instead of the usual way.
Now everything seems back to normal.
I suspect that their "update" may have messed up access rights in some way beyond my understanding:laugh:
Now it apparently connects consistently OK in the usual way.
I have the same problem driving me mad!
For some reason I can't update OTA I get this message
So I thought hey might try that program kies heard the updates are better too because they do a clean install of them. But it is horrendous!!
I want my update!
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
After much struggle I tried the run as admin a few times. And it worked once! Just got the update I am blown away how good it is soo far!
I hope everyone gets it soon

Hello,
I have a very big problem with my Samsung Galaxy S3 I9300.
The problem started when my battery ran down very very fast. I can use my phone for no longer than maybe 6 hours, and that is in stand by. If I want to charge my phone till it's completely full it might take two days on the charger as well, even when my phone is off. I tried to reset my phone to factory defaults, but that didn't fix the problem. I even bought a new battery, hoping that would solve the problem, but even no luck with that. The phone also becomes hot in the bottom. Now I wanted to bring it back to the store for warrenty but there lies the next problem, my phone is rooted.
I know it is possible to unroot the phone, and it's nog too hard to do. But every time I connect my phone with USB to my computer, my computer doesn't recognize it. I get the next error message "USB device not recognized". I tried different cables, I tried on an other computer, but still I get the same error. I also tried the S3 of a friend on my computer and with his phone I do get a connection. So I know there is nothing wrong with the drivers on my computer or something like that. There must be something wrong with my phone.
Now the problems won't stop here because there is even a third problem. Like I said before I have rooted my phone, but I can't use SuperUser. When I start SuperUser it says "The SU Binary needs to be updated. Continue?". Then when I press continue I get the message "Installation failed !". I can't use CWM as well. I wanted to use Triangle Away before bringing it back for warrenty, but I can't use it because I can't use SuperUser.
If some one would have an idea to unroot my phone without using USB so I can bring it in for warrenty. Or find a way to get my USB port running again, I think that would fix my problems.
I spend a few hours trying to fix these problems, but now I've come to a point I don't know what to do anymore, I hope anyone of you is willing to help me. I'll be for ever gratefull.
Grtz Nathan...
Hi.
If i was you, i would try to install a official version, using Odin.
Also, my advice is not to use the original charger, Even chinese have better one´s...
Did you install Kies and drivers on your PC? Check that too.
Consider install leaked 4.2.2 version of Rom, since it uses Odin to do it.
I hope i gave at least some clues....

Thanks for your reply,
I forgot to mention that I have the official ROM installed, I only rooted it. But even if I would want to install a new ROM, my computer doesn't recognize my phone throug USB. So I can't install a ROM using Odin unless my USB port is running again.
I tried several chargers already, I don't think the problem lies in the charger because the battery drains very fast when it's of the charger.
I did install Kies and drivers, I even uninstalled them and reinstalled them again a couple of times. I even tried it on different computers. And the Galaxy S3 of a friend of mine does make a connection. So I don't think the problem lies there.

In setup did you check optinos like USB debugging?
At this moment im out of options....maybe a poweruser can help you better:highfive:

What exactly do you mean with hard reset? If you mean powering on with home button and volume up button pushed, and then select "wipe data/factory reset". Then yes, I tried that.
In setup I did check USB debugging. The thing is, when I power on with home button and volume down button, I enter download mode. But even in download mode my computer does not recognize my phone. I'm not sure, but I think the computer should.
I'm really stuck here :crying:
I'm Fairly New To The Android Concept, And I See Its A Little Bit More To Trying To Jailbreak It Vs. One click root not working XDA. Someone needs to go back in and put the fix in for ERROR: No partition with identifier "60" exists in the specified PIT
Ive tried everything so far, even uninstalling the phone driver driver to allow samsung driver to reinstall, even manually installed the dev driver. I even tried to use odin3 to install via xda instructions. Odin can detect device if I just plug the phone in but if I put the phone in down load mode and connect, nothing. I checked device mgr and it shows the device in usb connections. WTF, XDA is verizon winning??????
Update:
Well I did discover after all this that I am rooted but I think that s all. When I plugged my phone into the computer Casuals usb showed in the Device Mgr screen instead of Samsung. To confirm I downloaded root checker from the play store and I am rooted via super user. Theres an issue though with putting the phone in download mode and odin detecting.
Update 2
Well it finally just worked and I was able to get odin to detect the phone while in download mode. I am now on root66 !! Help for others: Be persistent, I think it took time for my pc to accept and activate the changes IE: the casual driver replacing the samsung. It literally just happened after about 5 or 6 failed attempts of running the one click root. And it happened after a couple of samsung driver deletions. When the phone was plugged in, I went to device manager on the pc , usb devices and deleted the samsung drivers. I wound up doing this about 3 times. I restarted my computer after this to. Then I plugged the phone in again and there was casual usb controller appearing in device manager, replacing samsung. That was when I discovered I was rooted even though I had gotten the error message that started this post. Later, I went ahead and was able to install root66 by following the xda directions. wow......it was an all day affair but hopefully this will take some of the grey area out for others with this problem.
Thank you XDA for working to [email protected]^! this phone that verizon and google so graciously shoved up our #$% with a warm smile. The wi fi button for the notification bar is not available, I believe this is due to verizon when they put their stink on the phone. I would like to get that back if possible. Also the google search popping up when you plug the headset jack in is still there, but you can go into settings/task mgr/ all aps and scroll down to google search and disable it. The annoying pop up voice search hasnt showed up since I did this.
