Problem with Voda Aus ICS 4.0.3 ROOT - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, I looked around but can't find a thread similar enough to mine to be helpful.
I have a Galaxy S2 i9100T with Vodafone Australia running 4.0.3 ICS
Earlier, I did a lot of research and absorbed a lot of knowledge, and attempted my first root.
Off to a bad start, as it is not working, and my phone will not boot.
My aim was to root, and root only. Not flash any custom firmware etc.
My kernal version was i9100TDULPB, so I downloaded a modded kernal version, which was CF-Root-SGS2_XX_OXX_LPB-v5.2-CWM5
from Chainfire's thread > http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399
and Flashed it on the phone using Odin, the process went well and Odin gave me a 'success'.
However, the phone started up and showed the typical Samsung Galaxy SII boot page, with the yellow triangle down bottom, but then just turned off. I tried booting again, same thing. Vice verca, I could not get the phone to boot past that page.
I can get into Download mode and CWM recovery, I tried booting from CWM recovery to no luck.
So I downloaded another similar kernal from Chainfire, this time it was called > CF-Root-SGS2_XX_OXX_LPB-v5.2-CWM5-PROPER
Which still gave me the same problem. And that is the kernal which is currently on the phone.
And that brings you up to scratch, I'm unsure of what to do now and don't want to risk screwing up my phone any further.
Please explain (Noob friendly ) On what I can do to fix this, I am still interested in having the phone rooted, is there a different kernal you can reccomend I flash? Or a quick fix from CWM recovery? I am new to this, and any advice is helpful.
Thankyou in advance

I think Cf-root is intended only for i9100, not i9100T.
Anyway, try this.

If you want just root then flash back your stock ROM and use method 1 from guide in my signature.

[Q] Kernel Panic Help

Hi all, I have been reading for an hour or so, searching here and google but I am a bit stuck.
Basically I was trying to install one of the 4.03 roms and I hit kernel panic, no problem I thought, I would just flash back to stock and go from there!.
The situation I am in now is that I only have access to download mode, which is recognised by odin, but it doesn't matter what I flash, I get the gs2 boot screen (no triangle) and then a black screen.
Download mode shows that my binary is samsung official, but I just cant get any room to boot passed the initial boot screen.
Anyone have any ideas what I can do? My phone is a UK unbranded i9100, on t-mobile network.
Originally I tried flashing the 4.03 rom through recovery, I can no longer access recovery.
Did you try to flash stock rom or cf root kernel? I saw here one guy from germany had same problem and he solved. If you have a look on Siyah kernel thread, he posted there a posts about this 2 days ago, you can check, you'll find it. Good luck
Thanks! Reinstalled CF-root and then another rom, all good!

[Q] SG2 will not get past boot screen after first root attempt.

Hi,
Yes I'm noob, yes tried searching and saw a similar thread though the phone model is different.
I tried to root Galaxy S2 i9100 in Gingerbread (2.3.6 I believe) from Bell Canada for my cousin using the method from (oh I hope this forum is okay with outside links) galaxys2root.com
Launched ODIN 1.85 and clicked PDA with file "CF-Root-SGS2_XX_XEO_LPQ-v5.3-CWM5.tar"
Saw the COM box highlighted in yellow before doing anything.
Clicked start and everything was ok saying everything was successful.
So the phone rebooted showing me a the logo screen and a yellow triangle only to give me a blank screen afterwards.
I can still go into Download mode try rooting again, I already have 4 attempts logged into the phone.
Is the phone just soft-bricked or is it un-salvageable? It already has a big crack running though the home button so I'd guess so
All helpful posts are appreciated!
You've used the wrong kernel. You've used an ICS kernel on GB.
Find the correct kernel here.
You should have made sure you had the right kernel to start with. Just knowing it's 2.3.6 isn't enough (and tbh you don't seem too sure about that). You can't just flash any kernel to any firmware. You might need to flash a new firmware just to be sure which one you have now.
If you flash an ICS firmware you can clear the triangle and the custom binary counter with triangle away.
Yeah I was actually looking around for the triangle issue and DL'ed Traingle Away from another thread in the forum.
How am I to find my kernel version if the phone won't get past the logo screen?
Thanks again for the response.
go into dl mode and flash a gb kernel to go with your gb rom.

Ok looking at Chainfire's 8th post I see kernels for GB. Would it matter to which one I choose?
Well that was easy, I used CF-Root-SGS2_XW_INU_KL1-v5.0-CWM5.zip in Odin and everything is back in order.
Thanks guys, I appreciate it alot. Then again this has to be a noob mistake :0

[Q] changed font, now bricked

okay, i tried to do some reset things but they didn't work.
I've got an s2 skyrocket from AT&T.
I rooted it several months ago with odin using a recovery file that was linked online.
last night my friend changed the font, which I've done before, and now it wont boot past the AT&T logo.
i tried reloading the recovery thru odin, but it still is frozen.
so how would i go about unbricking my phone?
can you not just wipe and re flash a clean stock ROM, but make sure you only wipe if you have 4.0.3 or 4.0.4 with a safe custom kernal, if you use stock 4.0.4 you will be permanently bricked. i suggest flashing a clean 4.0.3 stock, from here you can use kies to updat 4.0.4 and root using the guide on xda.
You're in the wrong forum. This forum is for Gt-i9100 International version. You have Skyrocket which a different device and flashing anything from this forum onto you phone will break it. Go to to Skyrocket forum and ask there. Good luck.

[Q] Can i get 4.04 back?

Hi all.
The usb connector broke on my galasy s2 and had to take it to service.
All i asked them not to change my 4.04 version. But they did it anyway! Jeesh!
They put the 4.12 on it, which doesnt suit me.
Is there a way to get 4.04 back?
Can i just flash my previous 4.04 back with odin?
Or use stock recovery or CWM recovery to install the whole package?
When i had 4.04 i did a full backup with CWM recovery, but the file size is so small so it cannot contain the whole OS.
I come from Nokia world where downgrading was not possible so thats why im asking before trying things on my own and breaking it.
Please help.
Thank you.
Yes you can use Odin to go back to 4.0.4......but I'd advise you go to 4.0.3 instead.......4.0.4 stock firmwares are affected by the emmc brickbug which has turned *some* S2s into irrecoverable paperweights.
Whether your phone is one of them or not.....I don't know (you can check this)
For the firmware, go to www.sammobile.com/firmwares to find the correct firmware for your phone/carrier, download, unzip to tar and flash via Odin......simples
sent from either my Alliance powered S2 or my ArcoCM powered W via XDA Developers App
Find which variant you have first. Go to about phone in settings and see if you have I9100G or I9100, if you have I9100G we have all stock firmwares on our development forum, i advise you to go there, i don't know if our variant has emmc brickbug but you can search it.
Thank you for the replies.
I once ran the emmc brick bug check and it said i dont have the bug
My phone is I9100.
Is there anything i need to know about odin, or just connect, click PDA, choose the Firmware and hit start?
I downloaded the correct stock FW from sammobile.
Thanks again.

Yes, if you get bootloop wipe data from recovery.
Just to report back.
I flashed the old 4.04 stock firmware with odin.
Flashing went fine, but when rebooting the phone got stuck at the samsung logo and didnt go further.
Removed battery, put it back, booted stock recovery and wiped everything and phone worked.
So all went just great :=)
This was my first android flash and after this success i might wanna concider some custom ROM:s like cyanogen, but thats another story.
Thanks for the tips peeps.

[Q] New to rooting and i need serious help

I recently acquired a Samsung Galaxy S2 (AT&T - SGH-i777, upgraded to ICS via Kies), my first Android.
After a bit of root researching, I installed Odin (1.85) and then the Siyah kernel
I proceeded to follow the steps listed on a walk through website and everything went smoothly, however when the phone rebooted, the Samsung screen loaded first, followed by the Siyah ICS logo screen, and then blackness.
I can boot into the recovery and want to just erase everything and start over. Yet, because of my noobness, I'd rather ask experts before I go off and really fudge this phone up. WHAT SHOULD I DO NOW?!

Your problem is not clear. What are you facing after rebooting.
Also, what rom specifically did you install? It could be something as simple as an incompatible kernel, in which case it's an easy fix. But we do need a bit more information, please.

It sounds like he didn't install a rom, just a kernel. Yes, I think it is an incompatible kernel.
@dimintia,
My guess is that you tried to install a Jelly Bean version of the siyah kernel, and maybe one that is not built for the SGH-I777. To recover, you can flash an ICS kernel built for the SGH-I777. Or the easiest way to recover would be to use Odin to flash stock Jelly Bean, UCMD8, which you can download from the Download Repository at the bottom of the page. You can then use the Framaroot application with the Aragorn exploit to root.
