[Q] changed font, now bricked - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

okay, i tried to do some reset things but they didn't work.
I've got an s2 skyrocket from AT&T.
I rooted it several months ago with odin using a recovery file that was linked online.
last night my friend changed the font, which I've done before, and now it wont boot past the AT&T logo.
i tried reloading the recovery thru odin, but it still is frozen.
so how would i go about unbricking my phone?

can you not just wipe and re flash a clean stock ROM, but make sure you only wipe if you have 4.0.3 or 4.0.4 with a safe custom kernal, if you use stock 4.0.4 you will be permanently bricked. i suggest flashing a clean 4.0.3 stock, from here you can use kies to updat 4.0.4 and root using the guide on xda.

You're in the wrong forum. This forum is for Gt-i9100 International version. You have Skyrocket which a different device and flashing anything from this forum onto you phone will break it. Go to to Skyrocket forum and ask there. Good luck.

[Q] Restore Samsung Galaxy S2

I've looked at many posts and I still can't fathom it out.
I have the Samsung Galaxy S2 with Talkmobile. I believe it uses the Vodafone network. Not sure if that means my phone is branded.
When I first got the phone, I used Odin to root it with "CF-Root-SGS2_XW_XEU_KE7-v4.0-CWM4.tar".
I then put on Lite'ning ROM V1.5 on with Odin. Everything worked great and I then updated to the other versions of Lite'ning ROM. Currently on 3.2.
I have done a backup of that (with CWM) as a wanted to reset my phone back to it's original state. I booted up in recovery and selected to wipe the data/factory reset then wiped the cache also.
After that I rebooted into download mode opened Odin again and loaded up "Kernel_GT-I9100_I9100XXKG2" which I beleive to be my original kernel. Plugged in the usb and flashed it.
Started the phone and it still says Lite'ning ROM 3.2. Why?
I Also don't have access to 3G either. Weird. I no longer have my backup for CWM either.
How would flashing a kernel restore the original rom?
Are the APN settings correct?
Wow, more and more people turning up with phones they flash without any result. What is happening here? New SGS2 models or something??

No-one has flashed a ROM correctly and found it not to have flashed. Don't spread rumours or you'll be labelled a troll
Where can I find a stock ROM?

Problem with Voda Aus ICS 4.0.3 ROOT

Hi, I looked around but can't find a thread similar enough to mine to be helpful.
I have a Galaxy S2 i9100T with Vodafone Australia running 4.0.3 ICS
Earlier, I did a lot of research and absorbed a lot of knowledge, and attempted my first root.
Off to a bad start, as it is not working, and my phone will not boot.
My aim was to root, and root only. Not flash any custom firmware etc.
My kernal version was i9100TDULPB, so I downloaded a modded kernal version, which was CF-Root-SGS2_XX_OXX_LPB-v5.2-CWM5
from Chainfire's thread > http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399
and Flashed it on the phone using Odin, the process went well and Odin gave me a 'success'.
However, the phone started up and showed the typical Samsung Galaxy SII boot page, with the yellow triangle down bottom, but then just turned off. I tried booting again, same thing. Vice verca, I could not get the phone to boot past that page.
I can get into Download mode and CWM recovery, I tried booting from CWM recovery to no luck.
So I downloaded another similar kernal from Chainfire, this time it was called > CF-Root-SGS2_XX_OXX_LPB-v5.2-CWM5-PROPER
Which still gave me the same problem. And that is the kernal which is currently on the phone.
And that brings you up to scratch, I'm unsure of what to do now and don't want to risk screwing up my phone any further.
Please explain (Noob friendly ) On what I can do to fix this, I am still interested in having the phone rooted, is there a different kernal you can reccomend I flash? Or a quick fix from CWM recovery? I am new to this, and any advice is helpful.
Thankyou in advance
I think Cf-root is intended only for i9100, not i9100T.
Anyway, try this.

If you want just root then flash back your stock ROM and use method 1 from guide in my signature.

Stuck On Bootloop

I was trying to install the JB update using Odin but I kept getting all kinds of errors (mostly the NAND read write fail) and eventually the *update failed* yellow icon recovery mode. after endless hours of browsing and reading up on the internet, I tried installing the Clockwork recovery which *yaay* worked. so, I went on ahead and got the Slimbean ROM and installed that via Clockwork. installed fine but wouldn't boot, just got stuck at the Slimbean logo. thinking that perhaps the ROM was wrong, I got the CM 10.1 but that got stuck too. where am I getting it wrong?? any help would be really appreciated
P.S
I did not put android debugging on as I thought that since I would be installing stock firmware, that it isnt really needed.
the phone was previously on GB, never rooted or toyed with before,
I have tried deleting dalvik cache/ data wipe and factory reset
& it's the i9001gt variant.
Before we go anywhere, is it actually an i9001? Or i9100?
If it's i9001, then you're in the wrong forum.
If it's an i9100, try flashing hawkerpaul's ROMNuke script, then immediately flash Slim/CM.

its the i9100g. thought I'd post here since there's no 19100g help forum. I did try the ROMNuke script for the i9100 as I couldn't find a i9100g version and it seems to flash ok, but am still stuck at logo on both CM and Slim.
one thing I should mention, I used the PIT file that comes with Odin and chose repartition (whew!) at the very beginning of trying to flash the phone before I knew what PIT files are. could that have somehow messed things up?
I'm sorry, but I really don't know much about the i9100g. I don't know if cleaning scripts are compatible, or if that's adversely affected anything. To get the best help, post in the i9100g Q&A. Its stickied at the top of the i9100g android development section.

back to stock

I'm struggling to find the info, but it must be here.
Ready to sell wife's S3 as she's gone htc one (I'm still s3), I'm guessing I flash stock firmware through odin, but can't find a link to it, H3G UK. Would this also reset the flash counter to 0? Phone is still running one of the older 4.2 roms with the old EFS table
Go to general forum, stickies for all the guides.
No, flashing a rom will not reset the flash counter.

[Q] Can i get 4.04 back?

Hi all.
The usb connector broke on my galasy s2 and had to take it to service.
All i asked them not to change my 4.04 version. But they did it anyway! Jeesh!
They put the 4.12 on it, which doesnt suit me.
Is there a way to get 4.04 back?
Can i just flash my previous 4.04 back with odin?
Or use stock recovery or CWM recovery to install the whole package?
When i had 4.04 i did a full backup with CWM recovery, but the file size is so small so it cannot contain the whole OS.
I come from Nokia world where downgrading was not possible so thats why im asking before trying things on my own and breaking it.
Please help.
Thank you.
Yes you can use Odin to go back to 4.0.4......but I'd advise you go to 4.0.3 instead.......4.0.4 stock firmwares are affected by the emmc brickbug which has turned *some* S2s into irrecoverable paperweights.
Whether your phone is one of them or not.....I don't know (you can check this)
For the firmware, go to www.sammobile.com/firmwares to find the correct firmware for your phone/carrier, download, unzip to tar and flash via Odin......simples
sent from either my Alliance powered S2 or my ArcoCM powered W via XDA Developers App
Find which variant you have first. Go to about phone in settings and see if you have I9100G or I9100, if you have I9100G we have all stock firmwares on our development forum, i advise you to go there, i don't know if our variant has emmc brickbug but you can search it.
Thank you for the replies.
I once ran the emmc brick bug check and it said i dont have the bug
My phone is I9100.
Is there anything i need to know about odin, or just connect, click PDA, choose the Firmware and hit start?
I downloaded the correct stock FW from sammobile.
Thanks again.

Yes, if you get bootloop wipe data from recovery.
Just to report back.
I flashed the old 4.04 stock firmware with odin.
Flashing went fine, but when rebooting the phone got stuck at the samsung logo and didnt go further.
Removed battery, put it back, booted stock recovery and wiped everything and phone worked.
So all went just great :=)
This was my first android flash and after this success i might wanna concider some custom ROM:s like cyanogen, but thats another story.
Thanks for the tips peeps.
