Strange battery life - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hello xda forum i love how everyone is awesome, thanks for this awesome forum
Look i have this problem, my battery really isn't lasting for no more than 3 hours a day, until it gets to 1%, then it gets stuck in 1% and i use it for like 2 hours and no problem, then it dies, but it is like all the power is concentrated on the 1% what can i do to fix that?
Or to show the right battery tats/Percent?

Calibrating your battery stats may help. Is your phone rooted?
If it is, install 'Battery Calibration' from the Play Store, let your phone charge to 100% (I usually let my phone charging overnight), open the app, select the 'calibrate battery' button and reboot afterwards.
Then let your phone discharge until it turns itself off, and you're good to go.

Thanks I'll try that.
Will tell if it worked.

if the problem continue ....try to install new official rom...this may help u a lot....

HOW TO: Solve Battery Life Issues

***NOTICE***
The ROM Manager version of CWM does NOT wipe battery stats properly, as with many other things. What you need is jt1134's version of CWM that is all happy and works and stuff.
You can find his happy CWM here. And here. And also here.
And here.
Big thanks to LegionTHEFecalExcretion for the heads up on that.
***END NOTICE***
NOTE: On current DL30 and EB01 ROMs, you will not see battery life like you did on DL09 with undervolted kernels. There are NO undervolted kernels as of yet, everything kernel wise with Froyo ROMs in very much stock. These steps will improve your battery life in comparison to when you flashed Froyo, but you are not going to see spectacular changes in battery life up to what you were getting with undervolted DL09, etc. It's just not possible until we get undervolted kernels and Froyo matures for our device, development wise.
Hi everyone, I've been seeing a lot of threads about bad battery life, whether switching to Kaoscinate, Vanilla, or DL30. Stop it! Just kidding. There is a simple process everyone should follow when switching between different enough ROMs, like AOSP, CM6 and TW Eclair and Froyo. This is how you retrain your battery.
1. Charge your battery to 100% (when it gets there, let it SIT there, your phone is NOT reporting correctly).
2. Reboot to Recovery and Advanced -> Wipe Battery Stats.
3. Reboot, and use your phone until it is VERY low (5-10%, you can let it die if you want).
4. Charge your phone back to 100%
5. (Optional) Power down, then power on phone. (Thanks goes to BrwnSuperman for this suggestion, give it a try!)
Your battery issues should be solved. This needs to be done every once in a while, especially when switching between different ROMs and OS versions.
User dalrym05 posted this alternate method for retraining the battery on page 4 as well, so I thought I would share it here in the OP. I'm posting this as a USE AT YOUR OWN RISK method, as I have not tested it, and am not quite sure what the *228 steps for it actually accomplish and have to do with retraining the OS battery reporting, so I'm leaving it quoted to dalrym05 for the time being.
dalrym05 said:
Here were my steps to better battery.
1.*228 option 1
2.*228 option 2
3. Run battery completely dead to 0%
4. Plug in and boot immediately into cwm
5. Wipe battery stats and dalvik cache
6. Reboot and let charge fully before unplugging
7. Completely discharge again and fully charge again.
After this you should notice a very nice increase in battery as I did. My battery life is back up to par with eclair.

NOTE: I did edit his post to make it a little more clear. I'm slightly anal retentive that way.
HybridByNature had an excellent suggestion on page 4. If people have good tips and tricks for maintaining good battery life, and they are easily reproducible, then I will gladly add them to the OP here. What works for you?
HybridByNature said:
This might also be a good place to add tips & tricks to extending battery life.
IE
-Close programs that you aren't using.
-Don't leave your camera or navigation running in the background.
-Turn off WiFi & GPS etc when you aren't using them.
-Don't run your screen at full brightness if you can help it.
-Figure out what uses more battery life than other things:
Pandora, internet browsing, downloading, camera/camcorder, Angry Birds etc.
If you are rooted, try and narrow it down to the best kernel/theme for your situation. I've found that I have better battery with a non-voodoo kernel but the performance increase is worth it so that's a trade-off that I make.
Let's hear from our readers: What is working for you?

Would not surprise me if this is all it is. I have turned my phone off at 5% for an hour and turned it back on without charging and then it showed 45%. I know when batteries are low letting them sit a little bit can help, but not that much.
It is just being reported inaccurately by the OS.
This how to has been reposted like 9001 times. But yes, this is one day to do it.

Yes, but not as a thread, it gets posted in everyone else's "Why does my battery life suck ass" threads, so I made this so maybe people would see it and try it before posting another useless question thread in Development.
Definitely works though. Did it yesterday. Good post. It has been posted in other threads ... but I think we all know people don't read through everything very often.

I have the battery charger and 3 batteries, I always run my battery low and leave it in the charger for a day.
I did this last night and it didn't work too well for me.
Also, when I go to wipe battery stats in the recovery, it doesn't tell me if it wiped or not, just goes back to the advanced menu.
And also, should I be concerned that when I cold boot into the recovery, it doesn't appear to be CWM? It says Android recovery...I know I have CWM recovery installed.
Samerhing happens to me... and I just took it off the charger and I'm on 96 percent in less than 1 min

Wow same here..I just took mine off the charger bout 10 minutes ago and it's at 95% now. I guess I'm gonna let the battery run completely dead and charge it and see what happens.
I did something similar. I charged to 100% while it was on, removed from charger then powered off. When phone was off I plugged charger back in and waited til it was at 100% then unplugged again and powered on. Waited until phone was completely on then unplugged again and connected to charger. Waited til it was at 100% and while still plugged in at 100% booted into recovery and wiped battery stats. Then rebooted phone into OS and unplugged. I had tried this previously with DL09 and it helped a little. Last night I wanted to see how my battery would drain after doing this. With WiFi on and I got about 10 emails during the night, from 8:30pm to 6:00am I lost only 13%!!! Previously I would have lost from 35 to 40%. ymmv

Spare Parts says "Time spent without sleeping: 53m 15s (100%)
Wow.
If I go to Battery History and change the top dropdown to Partial Wake Usage, it says Android System at the top with a bar that's at least 75% full.

This is a proven technique, and it takes patience. Seeing the battery drop from 100% down to 95 or 96% after unplugging is normal behavior. I've done this already. Left my phone unplugged overnight and lost 1% battery. If you're too impatient to take the time to do this, that's your loss. You'll see the battery life "improve" over the course of a few days as the reporting gets more and more accurate.

I agree with supplysidejesus. This is a standard practice and should be done with each major rom or kernel install. This leak hasn't been put long enough for most of us to know what our expected battery life will be yet. Give it a few days for your phones to adjust.

[Q] Hello Everyone.

Hello everyone,
From yesterday i started facing a strange issue due to which i am experiencing serious battery draining issues.
My battery started draining 1-2% every 5 min in idle mode after i played a game named crazy fist . next day i factory resetted my phone. In idle now it is not consuming any power but when i do some work on my phone , it consumes alot of battery and it.drins like 1% every 2-2.5 min.
Charging time is normal. But discharge is pretty fast.
So i checked thr battery usage inside settings.and noticed that my display is consuming about 41% of the battery and android os arnd 13%. I am not sure qbout os usage but thr diaplay is consuming too much power. I think initially it used to consume 13-20(max)%.
Or is the usage correct? I am using sgs2 stock midel and have no intentions to root it.
Kindly assist and reply asap. Thanks in.advance,
Siddhanth
the display on the galaxy s2 does drain alot of battery if your using it for quite a while..thats what they call screen on time..my battery was draining fast and i panicked... when you do use your phone how long do you use it? say do you use to browse like for a good hour non stop?
if you was rooted i could of gave you some options but here is a link to help you read and give you some tips on battery life...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1234264
charge your phone fully and drain it without switching it off..charge it again without taking it off charger i say leave it for a good few hours...do the same thing for a few charging cycles and see what the battery like is after that..but check the link
But this strange thing happened to me aftrr 1month.
I wss never rooted.
I mean this is the first time my display is consuming 59-61% of the overall battery. is this normal and does it hsppen to u too?

i thought the same as you buddy. never realised it in the start when i had my s2 but then checking the battery usage and i panicked...its normal for the display to drain the battery alot..
change your brightness to auto and there is an option in settings and display where you can tick to have the display autoadjusted. thats for brightness..
or do what i do and have your brightness on the lowest settings and see how it goes from there...fully charge your battery let it say for 6 hours then let it drain till it dies down without any breaks and then charge it again to the max..do the same thing for a few times and check whats the battery after a few days...

when calibrated your phone you leave it on of course and charge it without any interuptions...when you let it drain with out any breaks like switching it on and off, once it dies down then plug to charge it.....it will charge and it will give you the battery icon...once its fully charged you can see by the battery when its fully green switch your phone and your good to go...

[GUIDE] FIX your phone's POOR BATTERY after flashing a new ROM

FOR THOSE WITH BATTERY PROBLEMS:
1. After flashing your phone with a new ROM, install this software:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...ibration&hl=en
BATTERY CALIBRATOR - 47 KB size
2. Then, charge your phone to 100%.
3. IMPORTANT. Remove CHARGER first.
3. IMMEDIATELY hit "Battery Calibration" (1 or 2 seconds delay is fine, wait for BATTERY voltage to drop and be stable)
4. Use your phone normally (don't charge in between) till it hits 1%.
5. Then charge your phone UNINTERRUPTED (leave it for charging all night) till 100%.
6. Unplug and start using. You should be having as little as 2-3% battery drain for 6-8 hours of IDLING now. That's the optimization of a calibrated battery.
ENJOY! Hope this helps!
Even Google confirmed that deleting that one file has nothing to do with battery drain, its just place where phone saves battery using from apps.

Letting Lithium Ion get to low charges then charging it will decrease battery life, you can leave them plugged in a charger and it will be fine, just like when you leave your laptop plugged in or leaving a UPS plugged in.

actually what battery calibration really do is it makes battery percentage display on status bar more "accurate".
when you flash a new rom, old battery data is not deleted so it will be inaccurate (ex: showing 52% on status bar when your battery is at 30%)
therefore, calibration doesn't improve battery life
Ive heard of it before. keeping your battery level between 60% and 80% help prolong your battery's lifespan.

It kinda does improve your battery life, because for instance your phone is reading 10% while the phone actually have 30% then the phone may shut down anytime because it think it has low power.

[Q] Very fast battery draining!

Hello! I bought this phone last month. Since I got it, I've never experienced any problem with it. For four days, I noticed that the battery drains very quickly, without any logical explanation for this. The data connection is turned off, Wi-Fi is turned off. Last evening, I charge it to 100%. This morning,I found it turned off, with 0% battery. What solutions do you have to solve this problem? Have you encountered this problem?

Can you please provide some more details on this?
I.E. What is it plugged into to charge? Laptop, Desktop, AC, etc etc.
- I ask this because I had a phone that would actually consume more power than a USB port could put out. when turning off the laptop, it actually allowed a back drain for some reason, and the next morning the device was dead. (Not this phone)
Also, what applications are running? Any?
Finally, you can try to retrain your battery... Wiping stats does not work, ever. So despite what anyone tells you, don't do it. You're just wasting time. SOURCE
So, how do you retrain your battery? Let it die completely. Then plug it in to charge. Don't use it while it's charging if you can help it. DO NOT remove it from the charger until it's at 100%. Once this is done, use it til it dies on it's own. Then yet again, charge it fully and then go back to your normal use.
In some cases, these batteries can go bad, for various reasons. A quick test, but is not always trustworthy is to spin your battery on either side. If it makes more than 2 full rotations, it's swelling and going out. Replace it.
The best alternative is to take it to a battery shop, and let them put it on a Cadex machine. (Pronounced Kay-Dex) ... This machine will charge and discharge the battery several times over a few hours and truly test the current life -vs- the life it should be. Anything rated less than 80% remaining life should be replaced.
SOURCE: I work here
I charge it only from power outlet, with stock charger.

6 hours 40 minutes from 100% to 10%, and the phone in stand by! Cell standby - 45%, Phone idle - 48%, Screen - 7%
And all this after a hard reset and retrain battery! The battery is almost new (aprox 1 month)!
I want it to make a screen shot of battery drain, but I have no clue how to do that on LG L9...

Can you please tell us what applications you have running in the background?
Also deactivate google now.(or the google services in google maps). download and install GSam Battery Monitor and after a cycle tell us what applications are eating your battery the most. It's clear that you either use yout phone(screen on time) allot or there is/are some applications that prevent your phone from going to sleep.
I use battery widget reborn and it shows me wneh the phone woke up,when the phone had the screen on,wi-fi on,gps on. Try it as well.
I also had battery issues when on JB. I downgraded back to ics. It's much more reliable when it comes to battery life. And the performance is about the same.
I don't have any app installed. After i replace the battery, i made a hard reset and I did not installed any app. I will install cpuspy and betterbatterystats for more results. I will back tomorrow. Until than, maybe you can provide me more advices. It can be from a damage sim card?

I removed the sim card, but in flight mode is the same problem... The last solution is to change the rom with a custom one. Any recomandation?
It's not that. Not the signal. It's the firmware. JB has these problems. In ICS Display is the major consumer followed by Phone Idle and Cell Standby.
I also had these problems in JB and reverted back to ICS .
I would advise you to install CM 10.1 on the phone. The battery life is better than stock. I get around 12-16 hours normally. The latest RC4 has fixed almost all the bugs present in older CM 10.1 variations. Give it a try.
I will root the phone and I will give a try with CM 10.1 or I revert to 4.0.4. If all this will be for nothing, I will sell the phone!

On ICS you will get great battery life Telling from my experience as i have reverted back to ICS after trying JB and CM 10.1( both have very poor battery life ) . So instead of wasting time just flash ICS and forget about battery issue :good:

I have the p769, and I offline flashed up to V20D (and rooted). Removed some tmobile bloat, and I have pretty decent battery life. I guess I'm lucky.

[Q][SOLVED] HELP Sudden Battery Drain

This is what happened...
yesterday at 7:00 AM my phone was at 98% Battery
Only Flight mod and Power saver mod was enabled,
Every thing else was disabled
Then i left home without taking my phone ( It was on my bed i forgot to take)
Later i returned home at 2:00 PM
And found my phone very hot.
Now the battery is at 14%
It says 88% of Battery was used for Android OS
Then i turned off my phone
After some time heat went off...
Then i turned on and plugged in for Charging
It Took 4 hours to charge 24% :crying::crying::crying::crying::crying:
Can anyone please explain whats happening ???
It sounds like something is keeping the cpu running, which is why android is is so high and explain the battery loss and heat. You could go into your settings and look at the running apps in applications manager, and see if anything is out of the ordinary.

Could be something like mediascanner scanning the sdcard if you hve one. GSAM and BBS are good apps to check wakelocks. The latter is better but it's a pay for app.

1. what rom are you using? 2. slow charging may be due to cable. change the cable and check the result. :good:
Remove new installed apps, check cable, restart your phone...
Now its working fine
Is there any way to find out which app was using my Battery ?
I'm On I9300XXUFME7 – Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean leaked firmware

I have the exact same problem but mine hasn't gone away. I can charge it all night and in the morning it will be at like 40%.
It only started after I flashed that leaked firmware. I have since rooted it and frozen out all the bloatware to no avail.
I'd love to hear any suggestions on how to solve this?

Well theres 2 things...
1) Like Laura, drain so excessive that when charging it is slow
2) No drain, just slow charging
Different answers for both situations. Are you 1 or 2?

It was in my pocket for like 30 mints or 45 mints..
Later i found my Ass on fire..:crying:
When i checked, both my phone and my ass was red hot..
Then i pulled out my battery
After some time re inserted it...
Now its working fine...

The best app IMHO is BetterBattery Stats. It's not free though, but it's a great asset. I have the widget on my home screen at all times. If you're not in a position to pay for an app, try GSAM, but BBS IS better. This will only be good until you pull the battery though so you need to ensure you check before rebooting. It will show you which apps are keeping the phone awake etc.

Does your phone gets over heated during the charging time ?
Have you tried another cable for charging ?

I'm ready to Pay for BetterBattery Stats..
I don't mind if its a paid app or not as long as it servers me good...
After installing that app do I have to remove my battery and re-insert it ?
What rootSU meant is the app will record data till the time you pull out your battery.

Yep. Best way to get good stats is to charge the phone full, unplug it and go about your business. Try not to reboot. At the end of the day lets see those stats and what we can find out.
Here is the list of apps on my Phone...
I don't have many apps...
I have Flashed my phone just a week ago..
And I haven't got time to restore all my apps again..
So, this is all the apps that i pretty much use now...
