Problem Case On Samsung Galaxy S2 GT-I900 - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

The cellphone suddenly can't make a call, neither receives incoming. I have already uninstalled the battery while it's on, took the SIM out as well. After installing them back, I switched the phone on again. Still, my Samsung Galaxy S II I9100 won't work on calls, though, its wifi signal works fine and I can still go online.
Problem Sypnosis:
The Flight Mode icon displays on top bar even the flight mode is actually off. Every time I make a call, a prompt box says "Mobile network not available". In Phone Options, once I tap the Flight Mode and it becomes on, turning it off (Flight Mode) becomes unresponsive, meaning tapping it again to turn Flight Mode off wont even give a flash. That's why I needed to take the battery and SIM card out, and as I've said, FLIGHT MODE is off now but the airplane icon still on the top bar. Have tried this also: SETTINGS -> WIRELESS & NETWORK -> MOBILE NETWORKS in which a prompt box appears with this message: "INSERT SIM CARD: Insert sim card to access network services". Obviously, I can't check the APN because of that. Along with these, the battery suddenly drains fast. I have also tried other SIM cards, they won't work as well and I tried my original SIM to other phones, it's working on them. Yesterday, the problem was fix when I had it taken to my service provided. They said that they only took the battery and SIM card out, returned them back, and they "RESTARTED" the phone, and the phone worked back to normal for a while. They didn't do "factory reset", they used the term "restarted" and in my understanding, they had only switched on the phone after putting back the battery and SIM card. Now, back home, the problem repeated itself. But why doesn't it work at my end?
Can anyone please help? Let's learn from this glitch. Thank you very much to all of you.

Are you rooted? No? Okay here you go, in layman's term:
-Download siyah 4.1beta6 from WWW.gokhanmoral.com.
-Download Odin(please search!) And Samsung kies.
-Open Samsung kies and install, including USB drivers(it will automatically install with the installation wizard don't worry). Then, make sure kies can detect your phone when you connect your phone to your com. Then UNINSTALL kies.
-Fire up Odin and make sure it can recognise your phone. You will see "added" at the bottom left of Odin.
-Turn off your phone. Now press and hold both volume down and home button. Then without releasing them, press and hold power button until download mode appears.
-Connect your phone back to the com and it will install drivers automatically. Then you will see added again at the bottom left of Odin.
-Remember you downloaded siyahbeta6? Make sure you downloaded the .TAR version.
-Check. Open up the file. If you see zimage or boot.img of anything other than another zip/tar/md5 file, LEAVE it do not extract. If you see a zip/tar/md5 inside the file, extract once to desktop. You should get something ending with .tar/.md5
-Go back to Odin, click in PDA. Browse to desktop and select the extracted .tar/.md5
-Do not touch any other buttons.
-Click on the start button.
-Your phone will reboot and you are now running siyah kernel.
-Search for any ROM in the forums and follow instructions to flash it.
Congratz, you have a custom firmware on your phone.
Please press thanks I spent 30 minutes on this

Thank you very much to you MarioFan1998. Your help is very much appreciated. I will be very slow on your instructions.
But I think I need to add what came out today. I went to Samsung Touch near me. They said that the serial number and IMEI are lost and my phone is corrupted now. I was told that these problems happen while updating apps. And they pointed out that the motherboard needs to be replaced.
Do you think I can still go with your instructions above given the new findings I have? Again, thank you so much for your being so helpful.

Thank you ksilver89. Is there a danger there? You see, in addition to what I was told at Samsung Touch which I consulted to MarioFan1998 on my reply to his last message, technicians there also told me that there's a possibility that my Samsung Galaxy S2 would go dead if I try to factory-reset it.
Can you please give me some advice? Again, thank you so much.

hey, have you tried flashing a stock firmware? just to make sure try to flash Gingerbread although it is quite outdated, it's more stable than that of ICS.. you can search here on XDA how to flash firmwares, read the instructions carefully and don't mess it up do not forget to wipe dalvik cache! and i think factory reset can do good at this

"Call not sent" problem

I've been having this problem for quite a while now. Halfway through a call, it disconnects, and I can't end the call, I'll hit the home button, and have to roll down notification screen, and end it from there. After that if I try to make a call, it just gives the error "call not sent". And I can't receive calls too. Only way to get it to work again, is by rebooting.
I've tried diff roms, flash to stock, wipe, etc problem still there.
I'm now on superatmos 3.0 with galaxy RC4.1.
Its a long shot but try taking out sim card or try a different sim.

Hi ad_ek,

Same issue in Sgs2GT9100G 4.1.2
I also face this issue of "call not sent" in my stock SGS2 Gt9100G 4.1.2, this happens infrequently, have changed SIMS, cleared cache, cleared all data before flashing but not luck, is is got to do something with memory full?
I have a similar issue for about 2 months on the SGS2. This is how it goes:
I first had CyanogenMod 10.1 with no problems at all until i installed total recall for the s2 (for legal purposes). Bad luck with that because after i installed it the phone didn't have any sound at all (music, calls, microphone, headset). I didn't have a backup so i had to reflash CM 10.1. Ok, for a while until i got reports that i don't receive phone calls, i was told that my phone was closed (even though it wasn't). Luckily i have a second phone. So, i restarted the phone, and it got back to normal. Next day, similar issue, and so on for a week until i decided to change the baseband. Did that, worked like a charm for a week and then it got back to not receiving phone calls. Decided to change to AOKP (06.15 - i later updated to 06.30 but had to downgrade to 06.15 again because android keyboard kept giving errors). No problems for a week, but finally the problem came back and persisted. Changed about 3 or 4 basebands with no luck. I sometimes check if i can send or receive calls with my other phone, and if i don't, i restart the phone and comes back to normal for a few hours or a day or two. Signal bars are full even when it doesn't work.
I got in huge trouble with this problem and i would really like a suggestion. Please help...

After having wiped, rewiped, changed ROM, changed modem... Another ROM switch+EFS restore (altough my IMEI was correct) calls are working again.

This fixed the issue for me.
Thanks very much!
I'm having a similar issue. Each time I go to make a phone call, It gives me the CALL NOT SENT error on the first try. Then I try a second time and it goes through just fine. I've contacted TMO support and here is what they said after troubleshooting: "Alright. Upon checking here, I can see that we already exhausted all our basic troubleshooting on your phone, and I do apologize for the inconvenience. Please do contact out Technical Care at 1-800-937-8997 or 611 on your phone."
I'm wondering if any of you have a suggestion other than new sim card or factory reset. I'm going to definitely stop by a TMO store to ask them about the issue, but I figured I'd try here before going out there.
Here's a video to show you what happens: go to my youtube channel to view the call not sent error. My User account is DeSaaD37. This forum wont allow me to post the link to the video since I haven't posted ten posts yet. So stupid!
Solution
What seems to be happening is the WiFi calling bake in is struggling to activate properly against the chipset structure of Samsung. I watched error codes pop up when the phone first wakes up. Calling is not available right away. When Wifi calling is turned off completely this issue goes away. Not sure what needs to be done to fix the problem so you can leave this on.

it only shows up during first lock screen when i reboot the phone

I have the same problem and no answer. I'm running Dillidroid ROM, but the issue also appeared on other roms i installed so they are not the problem
Nobody knows?
At a complete wild guess, I would say the ROM is expecting a data connection and then can't get one so it flashes up that notification.
I would suggest trying another modem from the modem thread in Android development, maybe one for your network specifically.
Of course, I have not seen this before so just guesses and suggestions

I would Suggest you to Flash another Modem..
Also try Settings > More > Mobile Network > Network Selection
Try setting it to Automatic.
If nothing Happens try option 1

The "automatic" solution didn't work for me.
But after I set the device to "WCDMA only" I have not seen the notification.
Try that.
I believe this happens when you drop from 3G to 2G network.
I have this happen regularly since my providers 3G connection is ****.
This error is shown when the fone dearched for ur carrier. If it's both gsm/cdma, u'll always see this error. Choose CDMA or GSM only.
This may affect the battery life of the fone sometimes..

AT&T Note - have full bar - can make call - but no data

I have AT&T Note, stock ICS, rooted. I have been having problem with inconsistent data connection, even though I have good AT&T signal. For example:
1). Signal is 4-5 bars
2). I CAN make phone call
3). Open browser, Gmail, etc - the "4G" icon shows it's trying to connect, but nothing happened. All the application will timed out.
I tried this in different locations (home, work, airport, etc.) and same problem.
I didn't change the APN or install custom ROM. I am trying to figure out if this is just my phone (bad radio, etc.) or a widespread, known problem for AT&T stock ICS.
Please chime in if you have the same problem.
Did you try powering down.... Then a battery pull..... Battery back in.... Reboot..... Turn off wifi... Make sure data is turned on..
Write back.... Good luck

I did try those, specifically:
1). Power down and battery pull out
2). Airplane Mode
3). Disable WiFi and BT - leave only cellular signal
The only thing I have not done is hard reset.. But before doing that (it'll take me a long time to re-configure everything), I want to get feedbacks from other first..
BTW, the ONLY thing I can think off that MAY mess up with the connection is Avast! Anti-Virus. It has a built-in firewall (root required) to prevent select apps from accessing the Internet. However, with WiFi, I have no data connection issue even with Avast! firewall running.
Un install avast and see if that helps.

I can't reset the default APN...check I can't even edit it. I think AT&T blocked it.
Did you just get the note or did this just start happening? If you just got the phone did you buy it new or used?

you are right.. you cannot edit and change the default ATT APN....
BUT!!!
You can create a new one.... and choose the new one over the default...
you are allowed more than one APN...
Modem .....and APN settings are the most likely causes.
APN settings first of course.....g
Thanks for the suggestions.
The original APN cannot be edited, so I created a new APN and select that. When I press the "back" button and go back to the list of APN, the phone AUTOMATICALLY selected the original APN, not mine.
I selected that again, press back button and waited for 5 minutes (in case the phone trying to update whatever it needs with the new APN). Went back to the list of APN and the original APN was selected again! (???).
So I think something went awry with my phone (I already uninstalled pretty much everything), and just for a test, installed a new ROM (Padawan v7). So far so good, but I haven't done extensive testing (at home, not traveling) yet.

It's got a good 4G signal and data works, but the "CDMA (3g) Signal Info" in the Advanced Signal Status application is 0%.
I don't know if that zero CDMA signal is normal if you're on 4G, so maybe this is a red herring.
I'm considering trying to ODIN the MK2 Modem onto it. Any other ideas?
You're probably on LTE only mode use an app like phone info to change the radio bands back to lte/CDMA (prl) auto mode.

Flashing the MK2 modem leaves me at state "No Service". This is not an improvement.
It's now asking me to switch to Global mode.
I tried using "Phone Info",
Network Type is 13 (LTE).
Phone Type is 2 (CDMA).
SIM State is 5 (Ready),
OK, any other ideas?
Damn wish I could help this is a weird one. Do you think you did anything before hand that might have affected it?
Just to be clear, when you go to mobile networks settings your network mode is set to CDMA/LTE?

Yup, it's a strange one.
Network mode is LTE/CDMA.
More data - I just plugged in my UK SIM. It came up, asked me to switch to Global mode, and now shows coverage as AT&T UK, which is what it has done in the past. GSM is apparently working OK. Network is AT&T HSPA, Roaming mode.
Power off, re-insert the Verizon SIM. Service says "Emergency Calls Only" due to Global mode.
Switching to LTE/CDMA gives me an "Attention" box saying "Searching for LTE/CDMA" with OK and Cancel buttons.
Pressed "OK" and now, instead of "No Service" it says "Verizon Wireless".However, still no phone calls in or out.
I just decided to use Safestrap to install Hyperdrive, figuring that if it was something corrupt in the base ROM it'd be obvious.
Unfortunately, no luck - it has the same "No Service" problem, and still can't make or receive calls.
I think I've got broken hardware.
For the record: Factory data reset brought it back to life.
I haven't any idea what did this, but I don't care since it's now working and I don't need to stand in line at the vzw store.

If I'd have seen this a few hours ago, could have saved you some aggravation. I've seen on here before where a factory reset was the only thing that seemed to fix this weird issue. Glad you got it fixed. If I remember correctly that user was messing with their apn settings.

I don't mean to hijack the thread, but I had a similar (but not the same) situation yesterday, and hope that I can contribute help to anyone in the future using the search function.
I had fully-functional 4G and 3G but could not make/receive calls. I could even text. The phone showed 3 bars of signal, but when I called a number, it went to the circle with the line through it. The message said something like, "Out of network range". (I was right in the heart of my home city).
I rebooted and it said, "invalid PUK"
Anyway, I ended up taking the SIM card out and reinserting it, and the problem was fixed.
I am using the rooted/deodexed international debloated stock 4.3 rom. I wonder if my next step would be to unlock the SIM.
Anyway, I hope this helps someone....and glad to hear that you got your problem fixed!

Did you use Odin?

That should definitely work.

I booted into stock recovery and used that to perform a factory reset.
Forgot about the reset after Odin, thanks-
Unfricken believable this worked, Thank you! I suddenly had the same problem with my S4 from Verizon on MK2 I tried to make calls but I could not get a Dial Tone and it would drop the call all at the same time go to no service mode. It was actually rooted but on stock rom, worked fine for 3 months and all of a sudden I kept dropping signals, rebooting, etc didn't help. I even used Safestrap 3.71 to do a recovery of stock rom to day one stock rom. (When I first got the phone and rooted) AND I did a factory state reset in Safestrap and that did not even fix the problem. I was going to try Odin reset, but I tried the Factory reset using the phone's options by going into "Settings"-->"Accounts"-->"Backup and Reset" and I unchecked data backup and automatic restore as I already had backed up my contacts, etc. using Samsung Kies 3. I just clicked "Factory data reset" and confirmed the options when prompted and after reboot, BAM! everything is working like day one!
My only culprit maybe is that this may have occurred when I tried to do a unlock via Service Mode menu and it screwed up with the Global settings or so and from there it kept asking me if I wanted to switch to global mode. Which it still worked fine for 2 weeks after the service menu mode. What I thought my phone was unlocked, I'm still not sure if the service menu mode method unlocked my phone or not but Factory reset via phone's options works wonders! I was just about to head over to Verizon to help fix my issue.

No Mobile Network option on Samsung Galaxy S6 Sprint SM-G920P

I rooted the galaxy and unlocked it with idoneapps. It was successful, but now I can not get to Mobile network option. There is no option in the connections list. I also tried to edit quick settings and I see the option. I tick to enable it, yet it is not there either. I have tried a few random fixes like the dual view fix or whatever that is called.
Does anyone have a solution for this? Thanks.
I had a issue with the same app now my mtp will NOT work no matter what ive flashed every 5.1.1 stock firmware placed mtp apk in root folder and set permissions all i can do now i charge no matter what pc or cable. The only thing i know to do in your scenario is reflash stock firmware and re root. I know thats a long pain staking process but im 85 percent sure it will return everything to normal my advice is dont use idoneapps again.

From what ive seen that isnt related to idoneapps. Take out current sim. Go to settings click activate device or use old sim and let hands free go through the motions. Then turn off reinsert good sim. This has worked for mr on various phones
