Where are all the devs for this phone? I know a couple people that have the dx2 and would love to tell them to check out the new rom on the x2 forums. Not being a troll but wtf is going on over here? I don't even see any [WIP] going. And don't say "why don't you cook something up? ". Because I don't know how... That's why I donate. This phone has been out for a while and no one is posting sh! T. Peace

Until we get the bootloader unlocked and a full system SBF file there wont be any developing going on....
I know its frustrating
My droid incredible broke earlier this year and I ended up getting an x2. Yet again motorola has disappointed me, just like the days that i had my backflip....
On another note, we should be seeing some form of gingerbread released soon because of the Droid 3 coming out!
I think I am sick of seeing the same question asked day in, day out. Once there is something to be reported it will be posted in the DEV forum.
So IMHO be patient.
This is not customer service, unfortunately you need to wait . Stop posting threads like this or posts demanding updates.
Thanks,
This my be already posted but I haven't seen it on here yet. (this is my first post and I'm realllllly scared lol)
Motorola has released an updated list of their devices scheduled for Android 4.0! And finally, we have some confirmation that us X2 owners will get a taste of that delicious ICS. Moto hasn't really laid out the details yet, but atleast we know they're thinking about us! I found the article on Androidpolice.com. Since I'm a newbie, I can't post a link to it but just go to the website and search Motorola and it's second from the top!
Sidenote: Thank you all for sharing your knowledge! You guys make me feel like I actually know what I'm doing!
****EDIT****
Y'all already know I got a little excited when I first posted this... I am sorry for making it sound like "Hey we are definitely getting ICS!" I saw that the X2 was still in the "Evaluation and Planning" phase of development and truth is it could go either way! So thank you for not destroying this freshie and sharing your knowledge!
Droid X2 w/CM7 and lovin' it.
Would that include us Milestone owners? They're essentially the same device. If so.....YAY!

As I understand it, the Milestone 3 is on the list!
I wouldn't put too much weight on the word of a company that said they'd give us unlocked bootloaders by the end of 11'.

ummm on the website it says in evaluation that means they are seeing if it works good this is NOT a certainty do NOT get your hopes up. Moto has effed us over before :/
Motorola can kiss my rump. I'm getting ready to order a Galaxy Nexus as my main phone. Droid x2 is a great phone but its just too locked down for me. I miss having a working rom manager. I'm a flash addict and miss being able to flash without being plugged into the charger.

My bet is that "under evaluation" is their way of saying no, while stringing us along..

Like I said in the other topic they best keep updating us at least onto more 2.3.? . This thing is still full of problems especially audio.

Thanks for the post, however, this does not guarantee that ics is coming to the Droid. Notice it is in the planning and evaluation mode. Note how other phones are listed at getting ics in the 3rd quarter of 2012.
I wouldn't hold your breath.
People, I understand how companies have to plan for releases. Believe me, I know as I am an architect and developer for a major utility company. What I expect from Motorola are constant updates, not some vague posting that sits there for months with NO updates what-so-ever. Kind of like how we were promised to have unlocked bootloaders by the 4th quarter of 2011 and it never happened. Motorola NEVER gave an update as to why this was nor if they were going to do it at a later date. Instead, dead silence and then the release of the Droid RAZR Developer Edition which costs $100 more than the MSP and no guarantee that it would be released by Verizon or other carriers. In fact, it's not schedule for release in the US for some time, which could turn out to be never.
So, don't take this update from Motorola sitting down. We MUST continue to hound them, tactfully, to release ICS for the X2 and other Motorola phones that are more than capable of running it. In addition, they MUST be made to come through on their promise to unlock the bootloader. Remember, do it with tact. As I've stated in another post, I've already filed my BBB complaint to Motorola which has been accepted by the BBB and forwarded on to Motorola, so the ball is in their court now. I suggest everyone else does the same. The more complaints, the more likely they respond, hopefully with a gesture that meets our wants and needs.

I got rid of my DX2 for an LTE GN and I haven't looked back since. The open world of bootloaders is amazing!

Wow! Check out this thread on the MotoDev forums:
http://community.developer.motorola...dition-Can-t-unlock-the-bootloader/td-p/23102
Apparently, a person got the Droid RAZR Dev Edition and when he tried to unlock it, it states the unlocking of the bootloader has been disabled!!!
Calling into support yields him no help other than to post into the dev forums. Doing that, he gets a response that they are in the process of updating their files to allow this.
Wow, Motorola. Way to screw the pooch AND your customers. That settles it. I'm done with them.
It is already discused here :

Buying Moto was a big mistake. Yes. I think I will now admit it. Literally NO updates and they treat you like Sh*T. Good going Moto. Not to mention the fact that the devs give it a miss. I don't blame them at all. When other major corps (HTC at least) have listened to their customers and unlocked their boot loaders and released their source code, what makes Moto so special and not follow suit. A while back they were nearly non-existent. Until Google bought 'em.
I am growing impatient as I slowly see the world progress towards faster and newer OSes and inspite of paying a bomb and buying killer hardware, have to be stuck with MotoBla and am at the mercy of Motorola. Hmmm...*checks if the logo behind isn't a bitten apple*
As if this wasn't enough, add to it CDMA/GSM confusion. Some really awesome ROMs out there for CDMA and we, the GSM lot, just helplessly watch as a third world country. No doubt the devs are working day and night on patches and ROMs...but the progress is visibly slow (for GSM that is).
On the other hand whatever brighter side is left, yes, the hardware and looks are killer. But now I think it's pointless.
Never again Moto. YES sir.
Comments welcome, positive criticism welcome too.
But if you are gonna reply, "Oh one more thread about bla bla..." I suggest you simply hit the back button and go help some noob.
This is my perspective on being with a Moto phone for less than a year.

Although all the repliers in this thread have valid points I have to agree with the op. I like the RAZR. Its got great build quality and features. The screen sucks balls and support from moto is disappointing. I am waiting until I can afford it and swapping to something else. Depending on what I can afford, anything from a nexus s to galaxy s3.
All this and I had a dell streak that I would happily have instead.

That would be the last resort, selling it. Swapping it for another phone...hmmm.

So " u mad bro" is a valid post? xD
Joke mode off
I can understand op point of view, while the rar is amazing from the hw point of view, the part of being motorola is the one that lower it's value.
Probably my next phone will be not a motorola, unless they change their behavior. Maybe losing in a quarter almost what they lost in a year can make change their idea a bit
We can only hope. My view is that they won't change. I was victim of their dext update fail and they say once bitten, twice shy. I'll change that to twice bitten, never buy.

Edit. Yes I think 'you mad bro' is valid. This is an open forum about general RAZR related chat after all

I understand the aggravation, but I don't understand why people find it necessary to post rants here. Xda is a development forum for developers, essentially your going to get a nod of agreement or flamed for littering the threads, why waste your energy? Why not voice your disappointment to the company that caused your grief. If Motorola and verizon's forums, Facebook, etc. we're filled with as many post with customer complaints as xda is they might do something about it just to shut us up.

Have you guys had phones like the DROID charge where you are left in the dust with crickets and barren desert for a dev scene and no updates at all?
You don't know how good you have it with this phone.
The phone you want is not available and it is a RAZR HD Nexus model.
I am extremely content with this phone.
Used to flash anything that came out for my Samsung phones to try and eek out a little extra performance. This phone doesn't need that.
SHVR MAXX
I have Epsilon V4 running on my gsm Razr. I have friends who have Galaxy and Nexus devices, among other premium devices. They care little about benchmarks and ROMs. They (We) worry more about email, some photo apps, social networking, some games, and business related apps. Hell I had to talk them into rooting and such. One thing they do care about is the "feel" that my razor has; its uniqueness, they grab it, fondle it, leet it rest on their hands and stare at the kevlar.
That being said, I don't think I want to buy a plastic telephone that develops cracks for no apparent reason. Furthermore, if time and business allow I am considering learning the related stuff to Android development. Not just for the challenge and fun, but for the very principle "If you want something done your way, you get to it."
Nobody forced me, or any adult for that matter, to obtain and keep this phone. If anybody is that unhappy with their device, I'd say it will be quite simple to sell it and get something one wants.
:good:
Information on these forums is really scattered, and since I'm not very into tinkering with phones, there's some terminology and processes I'm not familiar with. A lot of the posts here assume everyone reading knows what everything means, where to find certain things, and how to do certain things.
I have a Verizon/CDMA Maxx with 6.16.211, ICS 4.0.4. I want to install the Jellybean update that leaked on christmas eve. The closest bit of information I've found simply said "here's a zip file, install from external storage using moto recovery". It didn't mention how to access moto recovery, it didn't say where I need to put the files, it didn't tell me if I was going to lose all my data, etc. I just want some clearer information.
My only major question is, if I install this "accidental OTA update", what happens when the official/final Jellybean OTA update comes out?
Any help is appreciated. :good:
Thanks

Well I was in the wrong subforum.. that explains it. I didn't expect something like that to be in the development forum since it doesn't have much to do with development.
