Cannot receive calls when GPRS is on

During the past several months I've tried several WM6 ROMs - mostly PDAViet's. Currently I have the following:
ROM version: 7.7.7.7 WWE
ROM Date: 9/08/07
Radio version: 1_02.20.21
Protocol Version 4.1.13.9
ExtROM version: Mystrerious 1.0
The device is Imate's Jamin (Prophet G3). Since I started to use WM6, I am often having the problem when I cannot receive the incoming calls from time to time - my friends have to leave the voice messages in my mailbox even when my phone is on and the cell coverage is great. It seems that it is related to GPRS activity - I have GPRS/EDGE internet connection always on and I have my email synchronized with an Exchange server over the air. What is even worse, I have no way of knowing if someone has called me - even if they leave a voice message I am getting no notification on the PDA. I started to call my own cell number often trying to understand the pattern and I noticed that when I cannot get through, I can disable the GPRS and after that the call gets through.
I don't remember having such problems with original WM5 ROM when I purchased my Prophet, so I assume it is related to WM6.
As I said, I tried different ROMs and different RadioROMs (now I rolled back to the original RadioROM originally provided by Imate, since I saw no improvement with newer RadioROMs).
I have T-Mobile USA mobile service with Total Internet plan if it makes any difference...
The questions:
is anyone else experiencing problems like this? any workarounds?
is phone line is supposed to work simultaneously with GPRS? Could it be caused by a difference between [GPRS simply connected and no internet activity] and [GPRS connected and sending/receiving data]?
could it be related to the settings of activesync (how often it syncs with Exchange or be continuously connected)?
Any help is greatly appreciated...
Incase there is any data transfer happening at the time of the call coming in (pls note even while polling there is some data being transfered) the call will not go thru.
I have been using WM6 roms for the past six months... from my signature you can see how many i have treid, in each of the roms.. I also use push mail, hence I am always connected thru edge....I get phone calls even when connected to GPRS.. however if there is any data transfer happening at that point in time the call goes into my voice mail.
i think it is problem of your service provider, try another radio rom?
I am having the same problem, any solutions?
It happens to my device roughly once a month, and my GPRS is always off. So IMHO it is related to WM6. It did not happened on WM5.
My gprs (edge) connection is always on and I have the same problems on the radio rom 2.41.21. Try to use the radio 2.61.21 - no problems with incoming calls...
Korand, thanks for the suggestion. I actually tried 2.61.21 a couple of months ago - it didn't fix this problem
For now, I've changed my Activesync settings so that it will sync data via GPRS every 30 mins (before it was "stay connected all the time") - hopefully it will decrease the probability of getting the incoming call at the time of data transfer.

lol... this is no problem.. this is wht is supposd to happen on GSm.. because it works on a single FM frequency n not a band like CDMA or TDMA.. this is normal.. its jus like whne ur using ur dialup internet n ur phone line gets busy.. soo no solution unless u switch to TDMA
hahahha, you don't know what are you talking about, what FM frequency, this is not Benefon Delta lol

ok.. then can u tell me the kind of modulation is used in GSM.. go wikipedia ur ass n u will see wht im talkin.. ur such a n00b
it is Gaussian minimum shift keying (GMSK).. jus a modified version of FM to use support multiple communications on a single frequency.. talk to me when u got ur engineering degree..
No calls reception - no calls outgoing
I have a TYTNII who suddently has the same problem of incoming calls directly to mailbox, for each calls, and also I can't call anymore.
Does anyone solve this problem?
With the Sim card in my Qtek 8300 WM5 I don't have the problem.
HTC support say they don't know this problem and ask to make a hard reset...
ROM 1.56.406.5 (30/8/2007)
Radio 1.27.12.32

seems then its a common problem since tytnII has it may be there is something written in registry to divert call to voicemail while data traffic is going ON to avoid bad colliding accidents of voice and data packets on the same highway
to avoid dirty signals..thats all..
btw,all i know is that GPRS+receive calls = bandwidth bottleneck...see? how "cheap" the GSM is
so,the solution is to disable one of them...

Unable to recieve calls while browsing

Is anyone having a problem where calls go straight to voicemail when data is in use?
This is a serious flaw if its by design!
I'm on o2 with the latest rooted rom. Not the custom modaco one.
Well I've just found out this is a feature of 2g rather than a phone problem. You can only take calls and browse if you have 3g signal.
Maybe on O2, but I get calls coming in no matter what I am doing on my Hero with a 2G signal.
I'm on Orange.
Same on my Nokia's too.
We only have 2G at home so I know its not a 2G / 3G thing (for me at least).
Perhaps I need some different APN settings. Could someone else on o2 UK confirm whether this is a problem or not? Also if you could post your apn details?
My apologies.
You are right and i am wrong.
If browsing on 2G the call is routed to voicemail. Even if you press Home and stop browsing, the call is routed to voicemail.
It seems that only until you have tried to make an outgoing call will it kill something and accept incoming calls again.
No wonder I keep getting missed call texts from Orange.
It would appear that if the Hero is doing anything on GPRS (Weather, Mail, RSS etc) it will not accept calls.
Thats pretty crap.
My old Nokia's were not affected like this I'm sure... maybe they were and I never noticed.
if you can open a Browser window while on a call it will tell you that there is no data connection or to use WiFi.
So is this a 'feature' of the Hero or the 2G network ?
From further investigation it seems to apply to all 2g networks. I've done a bit of googling and there are a few posts about the iphone and similar issues.
I wouldn't mind if I could get a 3g signal in most places. I really hope that radio firmware gets better. Seeing as I can get 3g on o2 in a different phone at home.
Sigh, oh well... looks like people need to learn to SMS me or actually leave a message
This also explains why my TomTom used to crap out whenever I was on the phone (Nokia) sometimes... when it worked I must have been in a 3G area.
it's both phone and network dependent.
many phones do this on 2G, as there is no 2G device in the world that i am aware of that will do voice AND data at the same time.
However, due to this limitation, many networks have set up their network to forcibly terminate a data connection when a call is waiting to be routed to that phone. I don't know if it is a command that is sent to the phone that the phone has to interpret and support, or if it is simply killed from the network end.
some network/phone combos do it, some dont. it just depends on the combination of the two i think.
similar things happen on HSDPA, yet you can see the same HTC phone get forced down from HSDPA to 3G on t-mobile to accept an incoming call, but do nothing and get a voicemail on Vodafone!
Thanks for the response rhedgehog. I think if nothing else its good that people are made aware, I had no idea!
I would be interested to know whether other networks disconnect the data on the hero in order to receive calls. It would also be interesting to know whether other android handsets do the same.
My data habits have now changed. No more exchange push email - only check every 15 mins.

Data Blocking Calls?

Hi,
Anyone aware of incoming calls not getting through, e.g. going straight to voicemail, when you're browsing the web or whatever? Or is thi to be expected?
Thanks

GPRS/EDGE will drop calls. 3G and HSDPA, to my knowledge, won't.
Maybe you were not in the 3G coverage?

Its a known issue where 2g networks cant cope with active data connections and a voice call and divert straight to voicemail. 3G doesnt with the capacity.

the problem is that I could expect this when I am actually browsing or something but most annoying is that this does happen even when the phone is on the standby not doing anything (it must be downloading some data in the background though)
and frequency with which it drops 3g and changes to 2g and back doesn't help it in anyway... connection is very very unstable...
I guess its down to sensitivity or buggy radio rom.
i have the same problem here with eplus in germany. the normal behaviour would be, that the data flow is interrupted on incoming call and the call gets routed through. after the call ends the data connection will be set to active again. this is how my WM Phone handled calls during an active data connection. there are a lot of people with similar problems in a german forum. i thought that this is a network issue but it seems that it is a htc here related issue. If so, that would be very a major issue as the android OS and hero are build for beeing online most of the time. Anybody tried a different radio version?

Its not a phone issue, its a network issue. Its to do with NOM1 and NOM2 and how the network prioritises calls/data.
The network should either send a request to the phone (only some phones can handle the request though) to terminate the data or the network should cancel it on their end first and then route the call through. Most networks don't seem to do this.
Changing radio version will not rectify this issue
but obviously there is something that has to be done because it potentially will affect ALL android devices if they use so much background data.
Seriously it cannot be acceptable that phone will simply not ring just because it was checking email or updating weather...

[Q] Call divert conditions

Hi all,
I have a HD2 on O2. I have a really poor signal in my house and was wondering if it is at all possible to setup a call divert to my landline when my mobile is connected to a particular cell and cacel when registered to a different cell?
I have Ageye's G-Profile which enable me to run / close an app when registered with a cell but nothing to do with call diverts. I have googled my ass off on this so any hints / tips would be greatly appreciated.

Mate 10 tethering doesnt work while on active call

Anyone else face this issue? if you tether the phone internet to your laptop, it works as expected but once you make/receive a call, the internet on the laptop will stop working. I also note that the phone signal will drop from 4G to 3G/H+ on the phone once you make/receive a call.
I have tried to reach out to Huawei for support but not getting any resolution from them.
Issue can be reproduce as below:
1. Tether your phone to your laptop and check that internet is available on your laptop.
2. Have someone call your phone or make an outgoing call, you will notice your mobile signal drop from 4G to 3G/H+. Keep the call ongoing and dont hang up.
3. Check your laptop to confirm that internet has stop working.
Not surprising at all, it's by design and not linked to the fact you're tethering the smartphone's data connection.
Without tethering, use a hands free kit or earphones, make a call or simply call your voicemail and now on the smartphone try browsing or any connected app, they'll fail: data connection is lost during voice call.
In order to keep your (4G) data connection, your mobile provider has to support VoLTE and you must activate related option on your phone. I did it, it's working, didn't try calling while tethering but I'm quite sure it's the same case =)
Still no internet with either VoLTE on and off. And I dont think this is to be expected as my previous phone, Xiaomi Mi Max has no issue and can do both call and tethering at the same time. And my colleague just did a test with his new Samsung Note9 and also didnt face this issue. Not sure if this is a software bug or a hardware design flaw/limitation
I use tethering/hotspot every few days and didn't notice any problem. Signal drops from 4G to 3G because Mate 10 doesn't support VoLTE but internet works fine for me.

Please test tethering while on call, not just tethering alone. Tethering alone works fine for me as well.
Internet will pause during phone call unless your network is VoLTE. My phone network signal will change from 4G to H+ during phone call.

As I said, it works fine while on call. I use tethering in my second apartment, airports and in almost every caffe bar and didn't notice any network problems on my notebook if someone calls me. There is one lost packet when phone starts ringing and that's it.
The first photo is WiFi hotspot + phone call and the second photo is USB tethering + phone call.
Hi Guys,
Thanks for the input on VoLTE, base on this info, i query my telco (Starhub) regarding this, and just a few mins ago i received an SMS that "HD Voice Plus" had been activated for my number. HD voice plus is just what they call VoLTE. Now i have a VoLTE icon on the top left of my phone. I tried the same case again and sure enough it is working now. Cheers.
