Hi everyone, this is my first post at this forum and the first post is regarding a problem
The problem started when I started to get the "TWLanucher stoped" message and couldn't do anything so I did a factory restore but that didn't solve the problem, tried to download Go launcher ex and that didn't help so I decided to flash a custom ROM, namely the "[ROM][27/08][4.1.1][AOKP/CM10]X-TremE JB AOKP 1.1 & CM10 1.2 Pure [Aroma-OTA-HSPA+]" and now the phone freezes at the green android "guy" and grey "android" text, the only thing I can do is tapping the "home" button so it changes color, that's it nothing else. I also tried "[ROM][27/08][4.1.1][AOKP/CM10]X-TremE JB AOKP 1.0 & CM10 1.2 Pure [Aroma-OTA-HSPA+]" (version 1.0) with no prevail and now getting desperate so please help. Some facts
GT-I900I
Rooted, but still official samsung
flashed via "install zip from sdcard"
I hade XXLPQ
I live in Sweden (if it matters)
Did you do a factory reset after flashing the ROM?

No I didn't and now my problem is even worse I tried flash the official samsung ROM via Odin and that failed and when I start the phone I get "Firmware upgrade encountered an issu. Please select recovery mode in Kies and try again". Kies cannot connect to phone anymore and the only thing that works is Volume down + home + power button to enter odin mode but odin cannot flash anymore and I'm getting MD5 hash is invalid
Have I messed it up big time?

Why can't Odin flash any more? Is it because your phone doesn't show up as connected or..? And where does it say MD5 hash is invalid?

Re-download the firmware, preferably from a mirror, - that ones corrupt. Or download & flash a different firmware.

You're right! it was corrupt so I downloaded "I9100XXLQ5_I9100OXALQ5_OXA" and odin fixed it but in some strange way the phone shows that it has "I9100XXLPQ_I9100OXALPQ_XEO" which is strange I thing BUT that's no problem, as a matter of fact, that IS the one I wanted to download first so thank you very much okmijnlp you saved my day! I have another question if it's OK: what custom ROM can I have on my phone? are there and conditions or restrictions or requirements for using the various ROMs?

You're very welcome please add "(SOLVED)" to this threads title . You can use any from the Galaxy SII original Android development & Galaxy SII Android development sections. Be sure to do a nandroid backup before flashing any ROMs and do a full wipe after flashing them so you don't run into any more problems .

I rooted my Bell-variant GS2, purely for wiping all the bloatware off. I played around with ROMs but I found they were a bit too buggy for every day use.
Anyways, today I decided to open up Kies and see if there was a firmware update, and lo and behold there was.
Anyways, I backed up the data, etc. etc. and began updating the phone through Kies. There was an unspecified error during the update however, and now my phone just says "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again."
The thing is, Emergency Recovery in Kies doesn't work, IT gives me an error too.
I'm screwed, what am I supposed to do now??
UPDATE : I try to switch the phone to recovery mode (Home + Vol Up + Home) but it doesn't work. It just goes to the red screen asking to switch to recovery mode in Kies.
UPDATE 2 : Every time I try to switch the phone off via the power button, it just starts back up automatically to the red screen again.

So kilometers4, not only did your suggestion work, but I managed to update to 4.0.4 with no issues (so far).
I honestly think it has something to do with using the stock Samsung Micro-USB cable. Everything seemed to work almost flawlessly once I got the original cable.

If you haven't shut off the phone you should be able to load it back up in Odin desktop and start over. Can you get into download mode?

The problem wasn't your phone. It was a kies / driver / USB port problem, lots of people are experiencing the same thing. But I agree with the above poster, please don't modify the new one. If THIS was something you're willing to return it for, imagine if u had an actual problem.

Try installing Samsung Kies http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=...Hsxw4ptEdLDgjmDtA&sig2=s2Ik_zAvbYl1EZ28DFGk_A
then pop off your battery and get your Model and serial (NOT IMEI!) numbers and write them down.
in kies click on tools>emergency firmaware recovery a window should popup
boot your device into download mode
on the "emergency fw recovery window" should show your device... it will ask for your SN and model, input them as it shows on the back of your device. It will then install the latest Samsung FW (ICS).
worked for me when i got mine to the point odin wasnt working.
Stock SGH-I777 "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue"
My phone froze and when I tried to boot it back up it showed "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue". I'm running a stock jellybean rom so I tried emergency recovery with kies and it gets stuck at "Proceed to firmware emergency recovery" at 0%. I have tried using different usb cables, ports and even different pc's. I also reinstalled all the drivers properly. I tried flashing a stock rom using odin but it always fails. I can go into download mode but not recovery mode. I looked at many threads and the common course of action is to flash with odin. I have tried numerous times with different methods and it still won't get fixed. Please help. Thanks in advance and I apologise if this question is getting old but I am stumped.
note: before this happened the phone was working perfectly fine. I was running a stock rom and no root

Flashing the kernel
Thanks @cyril279. I tried it again with no luck. Flashing the kernel failed. And now it shows that the current binary is now custom. It was official before. And also the binary counter went from 1 to 3. IDK if that helps at all
The increased binary counter is likely the result of attempts to flash the Siyah (non-stock) kernel. I was unaware that it would notch the counter if the flash was NOT successful.
Assuming that you followed the steps thoroughly, in their correct order, and using the correct firmware for the exercise, (siyah kernel and SBL.bin) then I am left to assume, as the post states, that your eMMC memory is damaged.
I have not had much experience with damaged eMMC memory, so perhaps our peers can chime in with other options that may be available to verify the condition of the device.
creepyncrawly said:
Try the following, just in case the problem is nand r/w corruption.
[...the six steps...]
If you are unable to get any of these to flash successfully, first you should assume a bad port, or bad cable, and try other ports, other cables, even another pc. If you can get no flash to succeed, then you may have damaged eMMC memory.
In case it is damaged memory, see this post from Mobile Tech Videos.

Hey guys, thanks for taking the time to read this thread!
So my friend came to me last night explaining that her i9100 failed during a stock firmware upgrade through kies. Her device was completely stock. Powering up the device showed the 'Kies encountered a firmware error, please plug into Kies and select recovery' message or something similar. The device was purchased directly from 3 UK.
So I downloaded firmware package I9100XWLPY for UK H3G from samfirmware.com, which came as a single .tar.md5. Put this into the PDA section of odin, left the tickboxes default (No repartition etc.), put the phone in download mode, waited for drivers to install and hit start. Odin started, flashed the kernel but failed on a *.bin file (I can't remember the exact file). It then showed a NAND write fail.
I repeated the process with different cables & usb ports, always with the same outcome. I also noticed the flash counter was increasing, I thought this shouldn't happen with official firmwares??
Anyway can anyone shed some light on the issue, is it fixable (given I do not want to flash any pit files onto a device that isn't mine) and why was the flash counter going up using official firmware? The device boots (showing the 'firmware encountered an error' message' and I can get into Download Mode but I haven't tried recovery. I can also confirm its a i9100 and not i9100/p/g/whatever.
Edit: To whoever voted this thread 1 star, would you mind explaining why? Have I not included all relevant information and done as much as possible before asking for help? This i9100 forum seems a lot harsher than other ones on xda, with a lot less help....
Seriously guys? Over 75 views but not a single reply? Is there anyone who has experience with Odin that can explain whats happened / what I did wrong / how to rectify?
Hi have you tried an emergency firmware update via kies?
Also can you get into recovery mode and so what errors are you getting from odin?
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
Hi, thanks for replying.
I don't have Kies installed on my machine, I installed the Samsung USB Drivers as a separate package. I haven't tried recovery mode and can't as the device isn't to hand. I could however get into Download mode and connect to Odin. Odin would fail after flashing the kernel, it gave the error message "Complete(Write) operation failed". I can't remember what file it failed on, but its was a .bin file.
In addition to looking for a solution I'd also like confirmation that the firmware package I9100XWLPY is correct for a UK i9100 on 3UK network, and an explanation as to why flashing this package caused the custom binary counter to go up.
Try this guide.

Hi guys, i got a little issue with my galaxy i9300 international version, let me tell you what I did and the results to that.
1. Flashed with Cyanomogen 10.1. Working fine.
2. Then, afer a few days, flashed with Paranoid.
3. Phone starts to freeze, so as I didn't know was going on, and tried to flash with another ROM.
4. Flashed several times with ODIN and tried to stabilize it with stock room XELLA.
5. Flashed with Ultima ROM, still freeze sometimes.
6. Phone stops boots, if I turn on normally, shows a screen like an old tv, white with stripes.... also shows it when I plug it to charge it.
7. Only enters to download mode.
8. Tried to flash it, however says partition failed, there is no pit partition.
9. Tried with every single PIT partition mx that i found, and nothing, every time it says, Re-Partition failed.
10. Tried with a different computer, USB cable, everything... and nothing!..
11. Also tried with the rescue korean rom, and nothing.
12. Also tried with the single file from samfirmeware and the pit file, and nothing!
Any thoughts??? I'm desperate!

And the roms I flashed, in this order: 1. CyanogenMod 10.1, Paranoid, CyanogenMod again, and Ultima ROM.
After the installation of Paranoid, the device started to freeze, over and over again, and continue to do it over the other ROMs.
Also, I went to a so called "technician", and the guy says the mainboard must be replace, because i damage the bootloader.

Use only the mx.pit in the pit rar.
If you manage to flash the pit but the 3 file firmware doesn't work, download speedmod kernel and flag the kernel only. Then go to cwm and then mounts and storage. Format system, data and cache. Then go back to download mode after a battery pull. And then flash the 3 file firmware again. Do not select a pit file and make sure re partition is unchecked.
This should work.

Is that because he didn't do a factory reset before flashing?

Flashing a pit will usually hard brick the phone. If odin is correct version, phone is connected properly and you are flashing the right rom for your phone then the worst had already happened, nand failure.
You are missing a lot of information in your post, what does the screen say in download mode and how did you arrive at needing to flash back to stock?

Flashing a pit will usually hard brick the phone. If odin is correct version, phone is connected properly and you are flashing the right rom for your phone then the worst had already happened, nand failure.

Write out exactly what the phone screen says when in download mode.
Did you disable Kies before the flash, sounds to me like kies interrupted the flash
I can't contact him right now.Is it sure that the phone won't go back to download mode if the pit file was passed without firm ? If not is it possible to recover it with Jtag ?

Doesn't sound good to me. I would have thought it was a send for repair job.
As you've already flashed a pit I think you have a hard brick, all I can suggest is try this thread:
