Hello all, I'm just wondering, if once you root via HTC's method (since my phone is 651.3 there's no other way that I know of) can you make your bootloader say *Locked* (NOT relocked) in case you need to get service at a sprint store? I know you can remove the yellow triangle on certain Samsung devices so I figured I'd see if you could do something similar on the EVO. Thanks guys.

No, you can only modify the hboot text with s-off. If you really wanted, you could actually relock it using fastboot but I think even then it says relocked instead. I don't think there's much reason to...it sounds like Sprint doesn't really care. Especially since you unlocked using a method provided by HTC.

Ok thank you. Now, I know with the EVO 3D, and using htcs unlock method, you had to use fastboot to flash kernels and recoveries, is this still true on the new EVO?

Nope, HTC wants to make sure they know

Yes, if you've taken any OTAs. If you havent taken any OTA's you can flash anything with S-ON
Thanks for taking this one rx

Cool.
Looks promising although since I've already unlocked via HTC dev what's the advantage of s off..as I understand we can already flash radios etc..also it requires root..how is that possible if u didn't unlock with HTC dev
I'm rooted but not unlocked with HTCdev. They are 2 different things.

So does this essentially unlock the bootloader and give s-off?
So can I run this with an unrooted phone? I was reading the pre requisite and said you needed to be rooted/temp, which doesn't that mean htcdev unlocked?
I want to avoid htcdev unlock...

Its basically what every has already done except your phone will say S-off instead of S-on....no additional features. U can do everything u were able to do before.

Cool. Once someone has a write up or script to relock, unroot, unlock again with s-off and reroot so i don't get that red text on boot let me know. That would be the only reason i care about this.
Hopefully the devs didn't waste a good exploit that could have been used on a phone that needed it.
so im a noob at this and i rooted my evo 4g lte and when i start the phone up the first htc startup boot screen it says on every rom i install
"This build is for developmental purposes only. Do not distribute outside of HTC without HTC's written permissions. Failure to comply may lead to legal actions."
What's Your Question?
Sent from my SGH-T769 using xda premium
Hes asking how to get rid of the red text on the screen when it boots up.
Sorry but you can't until there is an s-off for hboot 2.09. I also hate it. If your hboot is lower, you can get s-off, which is highly recommended
Btw its not the roms, no Rom will be able to take it away. Its something HTC did to be d*ckheads

Its only a message to let you know the phone is setup for development, it does not affect anything. What is the problem you are having with Cricket?
Nevermind I see the other post
took it to a flashing place to get it flashed and they could not get data and mms working only talk and text
No that dosen't have anything do do with flashing the phone to another carrier

The only real advantage I see is that it can be returned to Locked status for warranty returns. I'm S-ON and never had any problems.

I believe smartflash sometimes fails to flash properly ROMs. Also, restore ROM (boot.img particularly) doesn't work. Phone just gets stuck after reboot, so needed kernel re-flash. Also, without S-Off and SCID, for example, latest radio update can't be flashed. So, I believe that's why peeps looking for S-Off.
j-bear no longer supports windows? Hmm mind if I grab a copy myself?

So. My problem is that i cant unlock my Evo 3D GSM bootloader since i had my motherboard replaced. I got S-on 1.53. Is there any way to unlock my bootloader or i just have to stick with stock?
Thanks in advance

I prefer to s-off then unlock, I would use Unknownforce's tool.

Well if you want to try this guide out that's not dangerous its the s-off jbear wire trick ( http://androidforums.com/evo-v-4g-all-things-root/695161-s-off-root-fix-everything-all-in-one.html) go ahead I just s-offed my EVO 3d last night and it really works!! I wonder if setting S-off would help the camera problem i am having with my One. I posted the problem a few minutes ago. My question is what is S-On or S-off mean? I saw when I was rooting my phone and flashing a custom kernel....
Can I ask what the two of you are even talking about ? I don't think you know .
No htc phone requires soff it's optional thing when available .And not always easy to achieve with HTC.You must gain an unlocked bootloader before you can root once you unlock and root you then can soff if it's been achieved for the specific device that one is attempting soff with.
It has nothing to do with needing it for root or needing it at all, soff just gives us the complete total control to flash kernels roms and a ton more of tech stuff.

You can't change soff or s on the way u think .It's not anything to do with what you are thinking.
Soff is very hard to achieve it takes great minds to do so . This is why HTC is greatly difficult to hack over the Samsung devices .
You don't need soff so stop worrying about it .trust me ,cause the HTC one is like the nexus models they work the same soff isn't needed really where as any other HTC soff phone is needed to flash roms in there entirety.
Without soff on most HTC phones you have to flash roms in pieces like boot.img has to be done from a pc before flashing the rom ,whereas the One can still do all that with s On.
