ICS system apps still there after flashing back to Gingerbread - Sony Ericsson Xperia Neo, Pro

Hi there
After switching back to gingerbread i found out that the ICS system apps, and maybe some other system files? still was left on my Neo
In system/vender/app and holds about 42,4 megabytes.
I tried to delete those files, But it seems like i have no right.
Can someone give some tip here?
How to format the whole internal phone storage?
Or how to connect to delete it?
Would be great to have those extra MB back
Edit: I tried root explorer, manage to remove the App folder inside the vendor folder. But the extra mb will not show up? Any ideas
Thanks!

You restored, flash a full ftf before restoring. Ics made some partition changes for mt15 only.

URGENT bricked mini by trying to replace framework

Just tried to replace framework-res on my phone and now its stuck in a boot loop at the two sony ericsson logos. I have the original framework file. anyway to get it back on or do a full restore in SEUS?
seus only
Unfortunately via seus only.
I got the same yesterday and had to restore all my data and apps. Fortunately I have a weekly backup running just in case...
Framework-res needs to be handled with care cause moving it restarts the phone without even getting the new file in place! E.g.
say framework-res.apk.new is the new framework and framework-res.apk the one residing in /system/framework/.
I've learned to replace it like so:
cd /system/framework
mv framework-res.apk framework-res.apk.bak && mv framework-res.apk.new framework-res.apk
what is benefit of replacing framework?

Bin4ry says to wipe userdata - otherwise phone will get stuckup in bootloop. Your opinion differs - may be under some condition! What is that ?
You only need to wipe the userdata if you are going from 1.6 to 2.1 or vice versa.

[Q] Need advice/help Xperia Go and Sony PC Companion backup (can't restore sms)

I need a bit of help. I update my Xperia Go to ICS after backing it up on Sony's PC Companion. After successfully updating, I tried restoring my stuff, almost everything was there except the sms messages, I can live with the missing apps. But the messages are very important (been moving them since 2009) and in hindsight I know I should have used an app to archive them for restoration later but it slipped my mind.
I've tried several times to restore, backup then restore and still the messages are just not getting into the phone. I opened the backups and saw there is a difference with the way the data for the messages are formatted. GB had them in individual files, ICS seems to be on a single file so transporting the contents of the old conversations to the new one did not do anything.
I was thinking of downgrading the phone to try and restore the sms and then use an app then update and transfer but
1. I couldn't find a gingerbread firmware to return to
2. Flashtool would not work, saying that it could not find the driver (am thinking the Go on ICS needs a different driver) and this was the same one I used to flash it in the first place.
Is there an easier way to move the sms files from the old pc companion backup to phone? or a gingerbread firmware i can go back to/download? and a working flashboot driver too.
Since there isnt a dedicated forum for the Go, I had to post here, sorry if this was a mistake but thank you for any help I can get.

You can download GB firmware here
For drivers, you go to drivers folder inside Flashtool and install it.
Can you please upload FTF file of ICS firmware of Go? I need it badly

Thanks, I got the file.
You can download here http://www.4shared.com/file/NDe4G08P/ST27i_611B110_CE.html
It gave the same error about not having the right driver blah blah twice. Then in my pissed off state, I kinda accidentally got it into fast boot i think (blue purple light, up volume) then took it off then put it back on back to try to flash the GB rom, it did!
After checking if the flash was alright, I tried restoring the sms only and it worked. there really is a problem with this that sony has to acknowledge between migrating from GB to ICS...
Time to install that sms app. Thank you

i belive it is prossible, we do not just find a suitable way.
some phone can use Custom MTD partition to resize, such as HTC Chacha.
i use the same way for ray, but i do not success.
i want to use another way, use a ftf fireware with resized partition, but i do not find a suitable fireware.

I don't think this will work on the ray. I seem to remember that somebody was resizing the partitions on the Arc, so you may want to check in that forum...but I am sure that messing with your partitions is one of the ways you can brick your phone. Plus, if you are ever planning on moving to jellybean, you definately want to keep the system paritiion big. If the goal is to free up space in your data partition then you probably want to set up App2SD or link2SD...you can also set up a swap and use part of your sd card as internal memory...but you need a really good SDcard or it will lag like crazy....

Well i had done that on my old HTC wildwire(buzz) so it aint impossible.
So what is fixed in the factory is fixed? we cant expand or shrink a partition like a hdd? just asking..
I know that on the Neo it is possible with stock files, because the twin phone Neo V has different partition size. We can just use Flashtool for it. But I wouldn't recommend it with much safer methods like link2sd available. You can also use apps like Titanium backup to batch move apps to /system.

But I am not able to install any more apps in that last 40MB. My phone acts like it is not there.

Yeah that happens when you update/install bigger apps.
Since (new) apps are installed/updated into data partition and original app (in case of update) remains in system partition, you have 2 "same" apps in 2 different places.
My advice, move apps from data/app to system/app and after that delete original apps in system/app.
Use inteks systemcleanup it's free and makes this an issue from the past.

Clear cache, it will definitely free some of the memory!

I have link2sd for moving apps to 2nd sd partition and I cleaned cache. But I am wondering why I never was able to use that last 40 MB on my phone. It says it's free but I can't save any data there. I will look into those updated system apps.

I am using link2sd to manage this for me.
Updated system apps are marked green within link2sd. It offers an option to integrate the update into system. Click it, wait and problem solved.

low internal memory question!?

Hi people, I rooted my girlfriends galaxy ace & put link2sd on it to transfer as many apps as possible to free up internal memory which left her with about 45mb to play with & 2gb external sd space, I now have a problem, last night I made the mistake of downloading an official update for it & it failed instalation because the phones rooted (obviously :crying which I stupidly forgot! The problem I now have is that the failed update @ 30.1mb is hogging up the memory again with the usual "low on internal space" error residing in status bar! I managed to delete a few unneeded apps & now have about 21mb space & no warning but the failed update is still there somewhere on the internal memory & I want to find & delete it if I can using root explorer! Can someone give me its location where it's residing to delete it, or can I only use manage applications in settings to do this & delete the data in software updates? & will that give me back the space it took!?
TIA!
Anyone??
Try clearing the cache of the programs. U can use "Apps2sd" or "Titanium Backup" to clear cache and move some of the apps to sd card to free space.

I've moved most apps to sd using link2sd as previously stated in my first post, & I've cleared the cache of most programs also
The problem lies with the update that I downloaded which failed to install because of the device being rooted, it's residing in internal memory still taking up 30.1mb of space! I just need to delete it somehow but don't know where to look for it!?

he isn't talking about updating apps, he is talking about updating firmware..
if phone is rooted, then ota update will fail..!!
if internal memory is around 30 mb then it is normal (i think, but not sure)
still u can try to wipe cache and dalvik cache through cwm..
or just simply update the firmware through odin...
and restore all app via titanium backup

Thanks for making that point yep the free internal memory that is left is around 28mb now, but only because I uninstalled some more apps after the update failed! I've cleared caches & dalvik cache but if I were to find & delete the failed update, I'd gain another 30mb (totalling 60mb free space!)
I think I'll just unroot it, install the ota update then root it again if I can't find where it's residing & delete it! I'm not too keen on using odiin although I have in the past on my S2 with no problems, I prefer ota or mobile odin (mobile odin doesn't support the galaxy ace unfortunately!) or cwm recovery firmware instalations!
Thanks for your reply! :good:

Hi
I have same problem firmware update failed and I had unrooted my phone before I started update I have now lost 50mb (app) of internal storage.
You make a good point CrackDaddy "where does firmware updates reside after downloading" I have used Link2sd and Titanium to try and find this failed download but just can't find it, knowing the firmware file name or the format that it may be would help cos I have probably seen it and did not realise.
I hope some member can help us.
There is no firmware file, the firmware is like a custom rom. So there are multiple files which atayed in /system after the failed download (correct me if I'm wrong). The solution is to flash a firmware through Odin.

I was hoping the failed download would be in one place and not multiple files.
So installing updated firmware via Odin would remove / fix failed firmware and correct the storage problem ?
And can we download and install updated firmware via Odin when phone is rooted or does the phone need to be unrooted before download / install of updated firmware ??

Yes, does installing new firmware overwrite or add to the system file storage space problem
After all, I'm not as concerned about having new firmware custom or official on the phone, as I am about gaining the space back, ( it's not my phone ) so potentiality all I have to do is partition the sd card to fix the space problem, although the failed update files wiould still remain in the system!
Ok so I am in the exactly the same boat; rooted my GT-S5830i on stock rom and stupidly yesterday I downloaded a 30.14mb update which failed after installing 25% of it and now my internal memory is 30mb less!!! =( (if only I had known before hand you can't update a rooted phone!!)
Researching told me that OTA updates where stored in the cache so I tried wiping the cache in recovery and no joy. Using my ES File Explorer app the following folders show...
/data/cache/ is empty!
/cache/lost+found/ is empty!
/cache/recovery/ has a file called "last_log" which is only 7.23KB not 30mb! =(
So it would seem the failed update installed and as said above is in the system folders, so I guess unless I was told every single file/folder name and went and deleted them all all,. the only other way to get back the 30mb of internal memory would be to flash my phone back to the stock rom correct?
I really didn't want to muck about with flashing, I'm a total noob and tbh it scares me in case I muck it up and also then there is warranty issues, doesn't flashing make the bootload value increase each time, thus voiding your warranty if the value is not at the stock value of 0?! I decided to root my phone with the understanding that if I did need to do a warranty claim I could reload the bloatware apps, factory reset the phone and then unroot it thus putting it back to stock mode and more importantly the bootload value will remain the same as the phone has not been flashed!
So I am put off tbh if the only way for me to get my 30mb of internal space back is to flash it with the stock rom! =(
Does anyone know where the 30mb of files are and what they are called? Maybe it is just one file and not a lot because I understand now that when you do an OTA update it downloads the update but before installing checks the system's files and folders to check every is 100% stock and that the stock apps are there before installing the update. Well surely because this check failed on my phone then it didn't install the update and with any luck the 30mb download is still in one file?!
lol sorry to go on, this has really annoyed me, especially the fact that since it has happened yesterday I have literally spent about 7 hours on and off researching this on the net etc! =(
Thanks for your help,
James =)

Firstly if you flash through CWM recovery & not odin your flash/binary count remains at 0, & you can easily reset the binary counter with a single click anyway if you ever needed your warranty, right here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1647703
Secondly as Android-fany has stated in his post, a failed update resides in the /system as multiple files & not a single file, so unless you flash either an official or custom rom/firmware, then you have no other options available, other than partitioning your sd card to make more space on internal memory!
& thirdly flashing roms/firmware REALLY isn't that difficult, look in the dev section & read the tutorials to the letter, then you should have no worries! (just remember to flash the CORRECT rom/firmware) official or custom for your particular device/model!)

If you did a factory reset then you should have rooted & partitioned your sd card before you put everything back on mate
as you're only gonna be in the same predicament sometime soon, either through apps, msg's, media or yet another failed update taking your space!
Unfortunately the internal memory on the galaxy ace sucks period!
You can't have many apps on it then, or anything else for that matter!

Yeah I need to get round to partitioning my 16gb SD card (10gb is free) so all my apps are installed on that, don't suppose you know any simple guides? At the mo I am still forcing apps to install the majority part of it on the sd card from this guide I used when I first got my phone before I rooted.... http://androidforums.com/samsung-ga...-force-install-apps-sd-card-without-root.html
I must admit it is very annoying that my apps positions change from what I want every time I turn my mob on and off or connect it to the PC with a cable (ie. every time it mounts and unmounts the SD card!)
Yea the galaxy ace internal memory sucks, but mine is a hell of a lot better than stock which was only about 85mb free out of the box which is quickly taken up by user apps/data etc, but I have 115mb free at the mo and I have about 25 user apps, which is fine for my use, One day I will partion my SD card though, I hope lol.

Hi All, not been on here for a while to give update to my failed FW update cos was on holiday.
Anyway I have done nothing to my phone cos I was away and obviously been getting reminder regards FW update from Samsung but just keep postponing it because of problem.
I have read all the postings here since (some interesting and good points) but just a little bit confused because some members say use CWM and others say use Odin mmm, what is the best to use and do you require to have phone unrooted for both ??
Also where would I get this new FW update from because the last time I was on Sammobile (2wks ago) and I looked again when I got back from holiday it was not there.
Because I am a nooby I am just a little apprehensive lol
Just another point / if the binary counter on a phone was not at "0" would this cause new FW to fail when trying to install ??
