I wish I didn't have such a perfectionist mind and be crazy about the smallest imperfections, but really HTC, you need to get your **** together. I upgraded to the Evo3D because I had replaced my Evo4G screen 2 times already because of issues with dust and had my hopes very high that by upgrading to the 3D I might finally be able to avoid the problem. Little did I know, I was mistaken. I lurked for many days for some insight into the whole dust situation before even buying the Evo3D and could only find rare occurences so I figured I should be fine. 2 Months later I have one spec of dust. I said okay, its small enough that maybe I can let this one go, but then today I noticed 5 pieces total. This is a quality control issue and I have tried going to the repair center for sprint and they said it was not covered under the TEP plan. What bull****, and HTC wont fix it either. I'm in no mood to fight this issue with them again that this is a manufacturing defect so I decided I'm going to leave the HTC scene. I really regret to even resort to this but I'm very heavily contemplating an iPhone 4, mainly because of the build quality, and the fact that the screens are all on top of one another, there are no open spaces between any of the sheets of glass, therefore there is no room for dust to squeeze its way in there.
If anyone has any way to get the dust out before I jump ship, or rip my head off, please give me some insight. I really love the android community, and it's been very good to me. Thanks in advance.

I apologize that there was no question mark but I bolded this because I was asking for insight. If thats alright with you of course.
Let me rephrase this in the form of a question, Alex. (I actually am interested in the answer because I can't read my clock on sunny days due to the dust.)

I only had this problem with my HERO. Got it replaced for free, no questions asked. Had the EVO 3D since launch-day. Not a single speck of dust under my screen. I'm not sure how people are doing this, but I'm beginning to think it's the way people treat their phones. The HERO I had was bought from a friend. I take VERY good care of all my phones, and never have these problems. I don't even use a case on my phone. At most, a matte screen protector.
But in all honesty, you probably should've sprung for the TEP plan. I recommend EVERYONE getting it. And if you get an iPhone, you CAN'T get it through Sprint. You'll have to buy Apple One Care, which I think turns out to be more expensive (I may be wrong).

Lifted it out ... after getting it super hot to make the adhesive gooey, right? I've actually built an EVO 3D from parts laying around, and other parts I ordered online. I don't recommend anyone else do this, it was brutal, but it works 100%.
The other big lesson I learned from ordering on-line: While the website may say: "Brand new parts" they may arrive and you find they are brand new, but did not actually pass quality standards in the factory! The 3D I built has tiny, hair-line scratches in the digitizer! Most time you never notice, but "Brand new parts" doesn't actually give you the full story.
Sorry, ranting here.
Just my $.02

My phone has a dust spray on the bottom right corner. Been there since I bought. I'm living with it now since it's out of the way and doesn't usually bother me. But I agree that it's terrible that the phone was shipped this way. I do have Sprint TEP plan but been too lazy to go in.
I've had two HTC phones and do really like them but I'm moving to a Samsung next time for sure. Probably replace this before I buy a new one then sell it. HTC phones are beginning to all look too much the same. Time to move on.
I have the cheap $4 (not including the damage loss) TEP but:
1) I don't want to lose my 1.4 bootloader and get a lousy reman unit.
2) since a bunch of updates (thanks, freeza), it has stopped rebooting at random, which was the only reason I got TEP in the first place
I fear that blowing air in the left side (headphone jack) might move the forest (presently in the upper right) downward, not just rightward. I'm tempted to cancel the TEP and just break it open for a proper cleaning.
I think this was a qc issue. My old evo was 100% clean under the screen. This 3d, after fewer months in the same environment) looks like a freaking dryer vent.
I'm about to go trade my black note for a white one. But I've been hearing about some manufacturing defects... Such as cracks and black screen?
Can someone explain to me so I can inspect the new note while I'm at the store?

I agree with everybody else. I also have a white Note, and it's just fine. No cracls, no "black crush" (stupid name if you ask me). This is why I hate those stupid threads by people who examine their phones with a microscope, then create threads when they find the most miniscule flaws, which otherwise wouldn't be seen. Go ahead and pull the trigger on the white version.
BTW, if you look hard enough, youbwill always find a tiny imperfection. Five million Notes have shipped, and only fraction of them have had problems. No more than any other phone on the market.

IMHO the people that are getting cracks in their screens are the people that think they are taking good care of their phones but in reality are not taking care of them. I had my first cell in the late 90s and broke my antenna taking it out of my pocket so I learned never ever to put my cell back in my pocket under any circumstances. Pants do get looser and tighter as you sit and stand and pressure is put on the screen which is probably causing these cracks. Get the white note just take care of it and you will be fine. No pockets! No bags! Don't sleep with it! Don't set it near your drink! Dont put in the glove compartment so it will rattle around! Don't lay on your dash while driving!

These cracks aren't in the screens...
You don't need to be so anal with your phone... It's not a cheap toy these are built solid. First two weeks with my phone I had it completely naked and pocketed it. now I have a leather pouch and glas.t screen protector. Just remember that it'll cost you 800 for a new one and I'm sure you won't break it.

Your right they are not cheap toys but they sometimes get cracked screens if they are dropped from pocket level onto asphalt, but they are pretty well built. I'm not anal about my phone but I know no matter what if it breaks I either get my retired device of shell out $750 for a new one so I am very cautious. People can do what they want with their phones I was just giving advice based on my experience. I don't even take my phone outta the house, too much could happen and its really not that important to always have my cell with me. I don't have a text plan so I don't need it for texting and I would never walk/drive and text/talk. Nobody knows what is causing the so called flaws on the Notes but if mine get a scratch, chip or crack in it I will know exactly how it happened and won't have to sit and wonder whether its a defect or if I did it. I can keep a cell for 18 month till I upgrade and it still looks new but I too have scratched and even shattered phones so it happens to all of us. All I was sayin was if you know exactly where your phone is at all times it might not get a scratch or get broke.

Mobile phones are exactly that, *mobile* phones. 99% of the people with cell phones use them when they are mobile. If you never take your's out of the house why spend so much for a cell plan? Just get a land line.

I haven't dropped my Evo LTE yet, well, because my preorder is in lala land.
But a month ago. I was canoeing at a lake, taking pictures with my OG Evo. I put the sucker in my lap! My fuggin lap! on a boat! Then while I got close to the dock, I stood up and all of sudden the world around me turned into the Matrix. The phone in slow motion went from my lap to about a three inch gap between the dock and boat. Helpless. Ofcourse it couldn't go into the boat or hit the dock. And it sunk like a dead hookers body.
Now I've had no (real) phone for a month, while I wait for my stupid preorder. Does that make you feel any better?

Ouch and to think I am sitting here frustrated until I get a new one since Google Wallet crapped out and I won't even use it that much. Guess I can't get too upset.
I dropped mine while I was doing a exchange at Best Buy for a dead pixel. I was inspecting it for flaws and it slipped out my hand Lucky I was sitting down and it landed on desk-counter and nothing happen to it
Not a drop so much as it flew out of my shirt pocket, skidded across a bar floor and smacked into a wall. Picked it up and not a single scratch at all. I was beyond shocked.
My OG EVO went off a 2nd story deck.... Luckily I had siedio case (seidioonline.com/htc-evo-4g-convert-extended-value-pack-black-p/bd5-hkr5hev4x.htm) and zagg screen protector.... No damage..... Still crazy though

1) Dropping your brand new EVO LTE.....or
2) Preordering your EVO LTE not knowing when you'll recieve it.
Better to have loved and dropped than never to have loved at all?

I couldn't tell you. I got mine last week. Once its in your hands its all better. Sorry.
I dropped mine yesterday while getting out of the car. Thank God i put on that ugly case they sent. i nearly **** my pants. but with the silicone case it nothing appears to have happened to it. i miss having a lanyard. But this case will do for now.
WHY DID THEY STOP PUTTING LANYARD HOLES ON PHONES!!!?!?!?!?!
i dont care if most people in the states dont use them, i always did!!! everyone in asia still uses them!!!!!
during pre-order, sites had HTC LANYARDS in their accessory sections, i was so excited, but after i got the phone, NO LANYARD HOLES. JUST A BIG TEASE
Dropped mine when it was in the blue gel HTC case onto brick. No damage.

I ran down the stairs FAST! and when I got outside it was still in tact I checked I have no marks at all just a few scuff marks that wiped right off it landed on the screen too! I have a d30 duo shock case, (which now I will. Have on every phone I buy!) and a zag screen protector! I'm amazed and soo happy

You people are clumsy. I haven't dropped mine yet and won't.
Ok I have over no joke over 40 different phones over a ten year span. I use to work at a retail store that sells sprint and since the HTC touch I been a Htc fan. Only once have I dropped my phone into a bucket of mop water that was freaky. I also buy good cases and have insurance. It's the be safe then sorry feeling. Ever since the windows PDA that I recall buying for 500 bucks have I did the insurance. Since then these phones are fragile.

Dropped mine yesterday.
I got out of the car and it slipped out of my hands onto the parking lot asphalt.
Just two small notches in the metal lining on the very left bottom corner of the phone is all the damage it took.
A friend said they bet my heart jumped. I said, "Nah, Its just a phone."
I'm lucky that there were no scratches on the back casings or glass.
I've had cell phones for a long time, and I stopped dropping them when I got my i860 Nextel. I've always had phones that are delicate, and I'm careful about my electronics. Unless they're marketed as such, THEY'RE NOT SHOCK RESISTANT, and they will break.
My philosophy, if you're a klutz in your day-to-day life, you should have a case.
I have an otterbox case and i hate it. So big and bulky. but it works until i find something slimmer.
It's not always about being clumsy, sometimes sh!t just happens. I live in NYC and at any moment someone can walk or run into my hand while im walking down the street and send my phone flying. Let us also not even bring up a crowded bar with drunken people who like to zig zag unpredictably.
Truth is, if my insurance was still $100 then i wouldnt even bother, but at a $200 deductible i feel forced to rock a case.
Hey All,
Before going any further, I just wanted to acknowledge that there are other threads out there regarding this issue. However, none of them have indicated any contact with HTC. That said, I called HTC today because I noticed that I too have a slight bend to my phone. I have never dropped this thing and always keep it in my front pocket. I feel that our phones should hold up to everyday things..... like being in front pockets or in small backpack compartments. For the EVO LTE, this seems to not be the case.
When I called HTC, I spoke to a floor supervisor who told me this was the first he has ever heard of this issue. I think it behooves us to let HTC know that although not all are having issues with their phones bending, there are members of the community who, through very little fault of their own, have bent phones. In order to have HTC rectify this matter, it may be best for all of us to contact HTC and file reports/complaints. I had my issue escalated today, but the representative told me that not much may come out of it since this was the first he has heard of this.
Let me know what you guys think.
Good call on contacting them. I have no issue with this yet, but certainly would contact them if I did.
Maybe change the thread title to something that indicates you want people to contact HTC, or many will groan and not even open this thread.

So you have no case on it? The phone does seem very fragile and bendable. I have had an Otterbox defender on mine since day 1 so I haven't experienced any bending myself.

I have a case on it. I understand why you would ask, but the product shouldn't bend just because it doesn't have a case. Scratches without a case, definitely. Bending? Definitely a design flaw.

I for one had it bend. But I know that if I were to call up HTC and say hey you guys shoulda known this issue and addressed it, they would either laugh at me and say have a nice day or, act like they've never ever had the issue nor heard of it and say its just your imagination or see to your doctor to change pills, or even say nothing we can do as its all how you as the customer treated your device. I would be shocked to ever hear anything come out of HTC as saying oops were sorry. Especially since the on going battle of source is still ensuing. Best case scenario, just buy a good case and move on with life.

The wheels on one of my cars are more susceptible to bending than others. I can't imagine ever having the self-entitled thought of being owed compensation due to my negligence as the owner and operator.
But I haven't bent any wheels because I know they need a smidge more care than others just like you knew the Evo does.

That's a horrible analogy. He stated in the main post that he has never dropped the thing AND he has a case on it. He takes care of it just as you do your non-forged wheels, and yet it's still bent. This translates to manufacturers defect, and he is owed a replacement. Bending is not wear and tear, that's design flaw.

Actually he doesn't mention having a case on it and he also insinuates that he put the phone in his back pocket. Regardless it doesn't hurt to contact HTC.
I think HTC needs to hear about this as much as possible, after reading all the threads about this, and noticing that mine is "warped" (twisted a little from corner to corner) it seems like a huge design flaw. Hopefully they take it into account when designing their next phone.
"We're coming from a pure power source"
Mine is no longer straight when sighted lengthwise in the same axis as volume buttons. It has a bend right between the red stripe and the volume buttons. The bend is also present on the opposite side of the phone. I have a case on it and never put it in my back pocket.
I have applied a very small amount of force using my fingers after noticing this and can make the phone flex quite easily.

I totally understand that we are cynical. However, this doesn't make it right. The relationship between a consumer and a producer is based somewhat off of reputation. We bought these phones, and not a cheap iphone clone or a knockoff of some other brand because we expected these to be reliable. I don't expect HTC to bend to our will, but they should at the very least look into this.

I think HTC needs to hear about this as much as possible, after reading all the threads about this, and noticing that mine is "warped" (twisted a little from corner to corner) it seems like a huge design flaw. Hopefully they take it into account when designing their next phone.

Thanks to all of you who actually took the time to read the post and not just jump to conclusion. If this is actually something you care about, call HTC and let them know whats up. Have the issue escalated and get a case number. They will not do ANYTHING about this flaw for us, or for future phones if they are not aware it exists.

Good job Ralph.

I'm wondering if some of these phones were built with a weak spot while others were not. I have never dropped my phone or put it in my back pocket, bit I do keep it cased (tpu) in a separate zippered compartment in my purse. I take it in and out of there all the time. I would think this is worse than a man's front shirt pocket, yet mine is not bent at all. I've had it since launch. I absolutely think HTC should be contacted and I would argue that it is a manufacturing defect.

How tight are you guy's pants? I have had this phone since it released. Very seldom use my case since I love the slim design and I haven't had this issue. I keep the phone in my front pocket. I honestly don't see how this is possible with no user influence.

So I wear really tight skinny jeans and am about to get this phone, is it a bad idea?

Getting the phone or wearing tight skinny jeans?

I just forgot my phone on the bed and was asked to hang out the bed covers...
Phone dropped out of the bed covers on the brick terrace, one story down.
There you stand watching your phone in pieces downstairs, unsure what to do, do you want to go down and look? Or stay and imagine it didn't happen?
It must have fallen flat on its back, as the phone is completely fine except some minor scratches on the back cover. The back cover and battery had fallen off (Korean model)
So remember kids, if you drop it, drop it flat on its back!

Dropped my phone from 4 feet onto a tiled floor a few hours ago, screen side first,
Guess what? Not even a scratch, props g2

Lucky... I dropped mine on the corner from my waist on concrete. Shattered the screen and killed the digitizer....

Mine literally fell less then two feet from sliding off my lap when I got out of my car to pump gas. Landed on the top left corner and the screen shattered there and two line cracks through the rest. The digitizer was pretty much useless, touch screen was pretty much unresponsive and possessed.
I paid full retail without insurance at best buy. So I had to sneakily return it without them noticing the cracks.

Maybe, but these big corporates way over charge for products that should not have exceptions to their returns for at least 30 days. All they do is send them back for credit anyway. At least walmart gets that concept and has their beautiful 90 day no questions asked guarantee that they've yet to not honor in my experience. I've spent thousands of my dollars on supporting these businesses, I could care less if I get mine's every once in a while, when they certainly get there's over on us with stipulations.

Maybe, but it doesn't make it any more right. This is part of the reason they, in your opinion, may be over charging.
Another example of people not holding themselves accountable for their actions.
Thanks Devs. From my VZW G2.

And this is why you buy cases. It is times like this where you need that extra protection from an accidental fall.
My daughter's 5 year old Dell Studio finally died last night so I took her to Best Buy and grabbed a Chrome Book which she hates and we are returning tomorrow but anyway I had to check out the phone area and on display front and center is the LG Optimus G going for $700.00, they didn't even carry the G2 or Optimus G Pro. I mean how can they charge 700.00 for the G when the G2 retails for 600.00? Guess thats why I stopped shopping in big box retailers years ago and always buy on Amazon among other web stores.

That's really sad. The Optimus G sells for $450 at AT&T...
