[Q] Liquid ICS MR2V7 - Thunderbolt Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys, I have a radio related question.
I'm running [SP]Jester and Liquids ROM. (Found in Newsworthy Post)
I can't seem to hold a signal.
It says 3G but its grey, rather than lit up in blue and things either load slowly or not at all.
If I turn on Wi-Fi, the Wi-Fi bars light up blue and so do the 3G bars... but it goes back grey when I turn Wi-Fi back off.
I'm running the OTA radio that is recommended in the OP, which is the 2.11.605.19 radio.
Also, I've checked my settings and mobile data is turned on.
Any help, pretty please with a beard and stache on top?
Sent from my Thunderbolt using xda premium

Update, it dropped to 1x and lit up in blue. Now its up to 3G lit up in blue.
Wtf?

Does your area have regular signal issues?
I'm not sure if they ate related but I was messing with some toggles and somehow switched my phone to cdma only mode. I just went into the 4g toggle app and switched it back to lte/cdma auto prl and that got me back to 4g.

Nah, normally its fine. I maintain 2 to 3 bars of 3G in my area.
That setting was correct in my phone.
Its working for now... I just hope it stays that way.

I'm having the same issue. I'm new to this, and don't know much about radios. I'm running the I've only flashed roms never a radio, so I guess I'm running stock. Is it safe to flash the radio after the ROM is installed, or do I need to start with a radio flash and then flash the ROM again?

Flash the ROM first.
If your signal isn't affected after flashing a new ROM, there is usually no need to flash another radio.
Is the baseband version 1.49.00.0406w_1, 0.01.79.0331w_1?
What ROM are you running?

Yeah, that's the baseband version I have. I'm running liquid ics know mr2v7. My signal has been ok today, but I have noticed quite a few data drops, and times where the icon says I have data, but no app can get online...

That's exactly what I am experiencing.
Also that is the 2.11.605.19 radio that has been tested with this, so I don't THINK any other radio will be worth trying.
Some people have had better luck running this ROM with the combo radio found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1864157
I have yet to try the combo radio though since I haven't updated to the newest release for this ROM. I'm still running the public test... just too lazy to reset my settings right now. Lol.
If you are going to try out the combo radio, remember to take the current radio off of the root of your SD card before flashing to the new one. Either just delete it right then and there from the root, or move it into another folder off of the root.
Also, if you do try it out, let me know how it comes out for you.

Actually, if you've NEVER flashed a radio before, you most likely won't have a radio (PG05IMG.zip) file on the root of your SD card.
But if for whatever reason you do, move that file somewhere else and off of the root.
Download the new one and place it on the root.
Rename that file to PG05IMG.zip
Turn off your device.
Hold volume down and power until the bootloader loads up.
It should automatically scan for updates.
It will prompt you that there is an update.
Press volume up to update.
DO NOT POWER OFF THE DEVICE UNTIL THE UPDATE HAS COMPLETED!!
Once it has completed successfully, reboot your device and enjoy you're new radio.
[Posted directions in case you needed them]

Thanks! I was just about to post that I didn't have the zip file on my sd card. My battery is about to go, so I will try this tomorrow!

No problem.
Let me know how the combo radio works for you.
If the combo radio doesn't work as well as the current radio you have now, you can always revert back to it.
The current radio you're running is found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1605557
Just follow the same steps that I gave you above.
Only difference is that you WILL have a PG05IMG.zip file on the root of your SD.
Just be sure to move it into another location that is off of the root before you change radios again.
Then follow the steps to flashing a radio that I gave you in the above post.
Good luck!

It's a good idea to move the zip to another folder or rename it after flashing the radio. Saves you from getting stuck if you can't get to recovery

I usually delete the radios .zip file once it has been flashed and tested.
That way I know it won't mess me up later.

At the first few replies: I had the same issues on .19, the combo leak fixed it all but takes a while to first acquire a signal. It's solid after that.

[Q] No Service after Flashing ROM

My Thunderbolt is rooted, but no matter what ROM I flash i can't get service. This happened after installing CM7. I have tried flashing different ROMs, updating radios, and returning to stock. But no dice. I can get the phone into HBOOT and Recovery, and the phone will boot, but when it says to select language, and then goes to the Activation screen, it just says "Activating..." and does nothing else. Any ideas, or a fix would be very helpful! Thanks!
EDIT: Problem was fixed by flashing most recent Radio. When i flashed CM7 for some reason it deleted my radio files.. hmm
Sounds like something mighta broke after flashing. I'd flash 605.9 and give big red a call. I know not much help, but sounds like you tried everything else. Good luck
I know you said different Roms, but you try a sense ROM?
i know its basic but you have the backplate attached right its needed to get signal
Sent from my HTC ThunderBolt using xda premium
Lol yes backplate is on. I just checked "about phone" and it says "baseband unknown" I think I have the wrong radio. I am going to search for the MR1 radio and install. I am running CM7, any idea on most recent radio?

Radio wont turn on!?! HELPPPP!!

ok so I was running viper 4g 1.0.0.0 and everything was working fine. I then decided to flash cm10, the 8.20.2012 build, and I ran that for a few hours, everything worked great and I loved how fast the Rom was. Long story short I was browsing the web this morning and suddenly my radio shuts off, I wait a moment and then it turns back on, then shuts off and turns on intermittently. I get annoyed after 20-30mins of this so I restore my backed up viper Rom. Well now the radio on this isn't working either....someone help me please!! I also know sprint is doing work on towers and I live in the san antonio area, but I know its not them cause I'm posting this from my girlfriends EVO 3d! HELPPPPPPPPPPPPPP!!!!!!!!!!

Restore your phone from a backup you do have a backup.

Forgive me if I am wrong but it doesn't work that way when going to cm10 or back
I thought it was a mandatory deal to flash the cm10 boot IMG prior to flashing cm10 and flashing sense Rome boot IMG prior to going back to a sense Rom
Like I said...highly possible I am wrong but I recall reading that

My 3g has been cutting out alot too. Sometimes I have to go to settings and turn off the radio and turn it back on. I'm not on cm10. Could be network rather than phone.

[Q] Radio Question

I'm having terrible 4g issues. i got a replacement thunderbolt a little while back and flashed eternity which im not too happy with on there. but i never flashed a new rom because i was told that the new radios on the most current hardware would supprt it. sure enough it did but the 4g doesnt work like its supposed to. just goes in and out and stuff
since i'm not too good with radios i need to know which one would be the best to flash. and why if someone doesnt mind explaining it to me. thanks!

Are you currently running the most updated 605.19 stock radios?
You ARE if you go to settings, about phone, software information, more, and the baseband version reads 1.49.00.0406w_1, 0.01.79.0331w_1
If these are not the numbers you see, flash these radios from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=24992678
If these are the numbers you see, then it should be working properly. If not, you may have installed an older version of Eternity. Check to make sure you flashed the most updated one.
Or the 4G in your area may be simply going in and out. Try flashing another ROM to verify this.

I'm pretty sure the LTE radios they used were from the 2.11.605.19 OTA. They may have flashed a different CDMA radio, but Idk. The leaked LTE radio causes most phones to reboot a lot.
Here's a link to the combo radios though. I suppose it never hurts to try them out... the outcome varies by phone.

But it is still recommended to use the 2.11.605.19 radios... which I posted a link for them above.

I've even had luck with the old 2.11.605.9 radios.
Try them if you'd like.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1396408
Just be careful flashing different radios. If you flash a bad radio, it can brick you.
Also, I was always told to never flash the same radio that is already installed. So if you flash the .9 radios and they are currently installed, don't flash them again until you flashed a different radio.

No data connection on miui

I flashed miui and at first the WiFi didn't work but 3G did. Now its the opposite and its not just with this rom its every rom I install. I tried to return it to stock with the ruu but it gives me an error every time. Whats wrong with it and what do I need to do?

Ok you have the latest firmware. 1.09.000.0706 is the latest. Also if you downloaded the jb muiu the dev states that wifi and camera are borked, then he released another update today with all that fixed. So when you get a chance download it and see if it works for you.

I played with different roms lately so see which one I prefer most, and at some point, unfortunately cannot remember which one I was installing, I encountered this problem, and it has remained even though I have tried other roms... Anyone have any suggestions, please?
Fixed it. I forgot to relock bootloader before I applied the ruu. After I got stock I had to update my profile to get 3g working again.

Help Not Sure What I Did

I have an Note i717M from Bell Canada that I have unlocked and using t-mobile radios to work with Wind.
For the last two weeks I had nothing but great reception and no black outs. I recently installed Black Star since I tried that ROM I have had almost no connection. I re-flashed ICS Blaze radio which I was using on Stock and CM10 with no issues.
Now no matter what ROM I flash I can't get connected for more then two minutes.
Not sure if anyone can think of anything that might cause this.
I am convinced it's not the radio because it works with my rogers account just fine when I flash the stock radio back to the phone.
Also I can connect to Wind Away on the stock radio no problem and stay connected with full bars.
Could it be the kernel?
Got it working I had to do the full flash in odin each of the partitions. Something must have been corrupted pretty bad. As soon as i flashed all the stock partitions and booted up and got the ics ota. Flashed icsblaze and back to full connectivity.
Sent from my SGH-I717M using xda app-developers app
It sounds like you just needed to add the right APN settings to the rom for it to work. If you decide to try blackstar again makesure to copy down your APN settings you are currently using.

I guess he used this rom to back to stock.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1657279
By the way, It's 2.3 stock.. not ICS.
Yeah I went back to bone stock.
Here is the funny thing I have 2 notes, 1 rogers, 1 bell. When I use the rogers phone on darkstar absolutely no issues.
The bell version, it completely knocks out the AWS radio that I use and I am not able to restore it for some reason.
I had to reflash all the partitions to restore it. Tried 3 times same result on the bell version.
Wonder what's different in the i717M vs the i717R

Unless you have a keen understanding of how to partition a device, dont try.
Rather, use Odin or kies to push the factory image to the device, and let it run the partition mapping for you. Otherwise, you can damage the device and brick yourself.
Read up on all things note, in the general section at the top. Use the "super thread" and find the issue you are looking for.
Also, you can general search for the answers, as they are covered in many threads in this section.....g
