Stuck In Cyanogenmod 7 Bootloop - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hi i need help with my cm7 installation cause i never got running cm7 on my device and i really dont know why, so here's the deal:
1.i flashed a stock carrier branded rom that matches my country and carrier (Cellcom, israel) (KJ1)
2.then i flashed a CF-Root kernel that matches my current kernel (CF-Root-SGS2_XW_LUX_KJ1-v5.0-CWM5.zip) (link to the cf-root thread on xda:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399).
3.i downloaded the cm7 zip file (update-cm-7.1.0-GalaxyS2-signed.zip) and moved it to the root of my sd card ( i tried to install from internal & external too and i still got stuck in a bootloop)
4.i rebooted to cwm recovery with 3 button combo
5.and then i did the following:
wipe data/factory
wipe cache partition
advanced-->wipe delvik cache
install zip from sd card--->choose zip from sd card--->update-cm-7.1.0-GalaxyS2-signed.zip
reboot device.
notes:i have done this proccess on other devices for a thousand times and it worked and i also wanted to mention that i flashed the zip twice sometimes and i also tried to reboot straight into recovery from the advanced tab and it also didnt work.
so i really need help.

Problem could be with the file you flashed...
Anyways give me full info of Your rom and CWM Recovery
And recheck that u have downloaded compatible CM Rom
Peace
Hit Thanks & It will Disappear

Whenever i install a custom rom my sgs2 bootloops

Whenever i install a custom rom my sgs2 bootloops, it runs fine on the ones i flash with odin, but when i try to flash a custom rom it bootloops the i9100 screen and i can't even get into recovery, only download mode...
Name a ROM that's not flashing for you and list your install procedure.
Which other ROMs have you tried to install? What recovery do you currently have?
latest clockworkmod recovery...i reboot into it i wipe data and dalvick, then i install the rom and reboot(i am not a newbie) i have tried with cyanogenmod 7 and 9 , and some custom roms here in the forums...MIUI also...

CM7 (and CM7 based ROMs) has to be flashed twice from recovery, and often won't flash from a CF Root kernel; instructions in the Nightly thread, post 1.
I had no issue flashing CM9 but I came to it from CM7 so I had CWMR 5.0.2.7 already. I'm unsure if people flashing from a CF Root kernel have issue moving to CM9 directly or not.
i am on latest recovery i told you and i tried with other roms 2

What's your latest recovery? I have 5.5....
Did you flash twice from recovery like I asked? Did you flash from a cf root kernel?
Since you're not giving useful info I'll unsubscribe from this thread now.
Miui = cm7 based

sorry, i am on cwm recovery 5.0.2.7
And did you flash cm7 TWICE from recovery? It won't install otherwise.
Sent from a Phone
yes i flashed it twice, also when i chose the zip it finishes installing in like 2-3 seconds, from what i know a rom takes about 30 seconds to install at least, and then it bootloopes from the samsung galaxy s i9100 screen with the yellow triangle and it keeps restarting and i can't even get into recovery after that, i have to flash cf-root kernel again in recovery then i install simple and clean 2.4(only rom that works besides stock) and i do it all again:|...also when i try to install cm7 with rom manager, when it reboots to install the rom it boots into the stoock recovery and gives me an error, does the battery level count?
Downgrade CWM to an older version.
Flash cfroot KK5 or something like that via Odin and see if that makes a difference.
Also intratech has the old bootloader in his thread to flash via Odin. Might help also.

ok thank you i will report back
Have same problem after flashing KP8 rom... I believe it installed new bootloaders and it won't flash the older ones again.
Went through about 5 or 6 stock roms, some booted but had problems with google and the phone apks . Reloaded kp8 and it works perfectly... Don't have time to play around, working.... Something to do later...
CyanogenMod7
To start off a clean slate :
1. Flash XWKK5 ( Frankenstein build ) from intratech's thread via Odin
2. Flash CF-Root for XWKK5
3. Boot into CWM
4. Wipe data
5. Wipe cache
6. Advanced -> Wipe dalvik cache
7. Install zip from sdcard -> CyanogenModxxx.zip (xxx=version)
8. AGAIN Install zip from sdcard -> CyanogenModxxx.zip
9. Reboot phone
10. If your still getting a bootloop but your keys are backlit , turn off phone , remove and reinsert battery, turn it on
CyanogenMod9
You need to flash the new bootloader too ( read instructions on the CM9 thread)
MIUI
Same as CM7 , except you don't need to flash it twice
Hope i helped
EDIT : Going back from CM9 -> You CANT flash CM7 , you have to flash stock first then CM7 , also you need the old bootloader

How is your data and/or internet connection? Have you checked the md5 sums of any of the cm7 DL's?
data and internet are fine on other roms, the downloads are good i have downloaded from official site several times
So why do you see a need to have three seperate threads on the one topic

If u have searched u must have find the answer.
Whenever you are flashing any Samsung custom rom and stuck on boot screen, just flash any CFROOT kernel via odin it will boot.
and for CM7 & MIUI just flash Siyah 2.1 or Speedmod 13...it should boot.
This problem was faced by me and I did found the above solutions.
@MODERATORS kindly delete the duplicate posts....

Not true, Mine goes into boot loop constantly... If it does boot then I get error about google and phone apks and can't get past the "touch the android" page....
I believe their is a minority of sgsII's tha have this problem, might be something to do with the new bootloaders not being completely wiped but it doesn't matter how many times I install a stock rom I get problems... And yes, I always flash the cfroot kernels after... Doesn't help....
Hi.
Having come from the HTC HD2,I am a complete noob when it comes to galaxy s2 and flashing Roms etc;
I know I had problems.....until I discovered that unlike the HD2,placing a rom on the sd card means placing it into the internal memory of the phone and not the sd card you have inserted.
Hope this helps!

What I meant was:
SD card = internal memory of phone i.e. 16Gb
External SD card = the micro SD card you physically insert into the phone

The reason for your problem is becausE you flashed Cm7 on your ICS phone.
Cm7 is for gingerbread, CM9 is for ICS while CM10 is for jelly bean.
If you want to flash any CYANOGENMOD, I recommend CM9 or CM10 since you are already in ICS.

- restart the phone and go to the RECOVERY again
- Do the FACTORY RESET, wipe cash/data
- restart the phone
I had the same problem when i was installing CM7 for the first time. Ended in bootloop. If Factory reset after instaling CM7 doesnt help, i recomend you to stay with CM9 stable

What cwm and bootloader do you have installed?? you need the 6.1..... cwm and the ICS bootloader from http://droidbasement.com/db-blog/
And yes you can go back to stock ics by using odin, wipe data/cashe/dalvik and then flash the cwm in odin, the bootloader in odin, kernel isn't needed because it's a build-in kernel and then the ROM
Thanks 4 ur reply sir...i used CWM 5.8. and i didnt installed bootloader.sry i dont know sme technical terms.i updated official ics from samsung .and rooted by odin.
Can u give/post the link for 6.1cwm????whether i install any kernel separately???

For cwm 6.1, download the recovery.tar and the bootloader4_0_4, flash it on odin on the PDA section, BUT ONLY USE CM10 with THIS!!!! Also download the ROM and also flzdh this under PDA
you can find stock ics firmware on http://www.sammobile.com/firmware/ stock firmware should revert everything, unroot/unbrick

Hello people
I recently tried installing CyanogenMod 10 on my intl Galaxy Player 5.0.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2077671

I recently rooted it and i am able to enter download or recovery mode, i have the intl model and im currently running:
This ROM:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1623529
And this KERNEL:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1414565
Everytime i get an assert failed error (yes formatting does not help.....) and when installing the kernel within the thread i bricked my phone....
I was able to recover it but i dont wanna brick my phone again so any help and/or detailted instructions how to get that rom installed would be appreciated.
When i was trying to flash, thought it was with Odin. My programme crashed upon NaNDwrite....
Thanks in advance, hope someone can help me out!

Umm, if I'm understanding correctly, you installed the ROM- CM10, that is- and/or kernel via Odin. CM10 and the Mercurius kernel are zip files (.tar, .pit and the like are for Odin, not zips...if I understood correctly).
You want to place the ROM and the GAPPS zips on your actual SD card. Make sure the SD card is working properly. Reset and go to CWM (Power+Vol up).
Then, accd to the instructions on the CM10 page:
"Installation:
Reboot to CWM
Make a Nandroid (optional, but recommended)
Format /system if you had a different GApps package installed
Install ROM
Install GAPPS if you just formatted /system
Wipe data/factory reset if you are coming from Gingerbread
Reboot
??? (wait a while...)
Profit"
I'd say make a backup before doing any of this, but I'm assuming you're beyond that point....But before going on to CM10, it might be a good idea to recover your device first and back it up. Maybe flash a GB rom via CWM or Odin before proceeding to CM10, making a backup just in case...
Ok

Just flash CM10 kernel zip
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2109674
from CWM5 and then reboot CMW and you will have CWM6..then just install CM10 rom.

would he have to flash the kernel first, though? I'm unfamiliar with rjs, but am assuming that rjs version of CWM would be identical to entropys version of CWM, which means that he could just flash the CM10 ROM since it has the kernel baked in.
When I upgraded from Chip -> CM10, I just flashed via CWM, upgrading both the ROM and CWM in the process.

I remember Dkonzig mentioning this, that the path to JB was through ICS, but for my US device, I just flashed directly to GB. I remember another Int'l GB user who flashed directly to JB and was fine. this is peculiar.
so two methods to choose from, I suppose.

[Q]cant install the 4.3 latest update!!!!

hi guys i would appreciate help concerning my gt i9300..new android user n am not a pro yet but am following intructions over here and upgraded my phone from 4.1 to 4.3 via odin[as said in different threads]..works wonderful but later i noticed huge battery drain.i googled for the matter and i came to know that the issue was in the firmware itself..
i then downloaded another 4.3 [updated and latest].
now i cant update to the latest 4.3 iv just downloaded..my present kernel version is dated nov 29 and it remained wen i try flashing it to the latest???
did i skipped somthing??
what should i do??
i read lots of threads n still dnt kno wat to do.
please..........
Your description of what you've done is no help.
Download the latest firmware for your country from Sammobile.com, flash using odin then factory reset.
Follow the guide in general forum, sticky threads.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk
Are you just wanting stock 4.3 for your I9300 or are you wanting a custom rom for the I9300?
If its just stock then yes as @boomboomer says you need to download latest firmware via sammobile or alternative site (there is even a collection on xda i believe) and flash this via odin.
If you want to go the custom rom root however to get the most from your device then all you would need to do is to download the rom of your choice and put on your phone, from there get latest TWRP or CWM recovery (depending on your preference) flash this via odin (in pda), then boot into recovery and flash the rom as per the Dev's instructions
Hope you get your phone to the rom/firmware you want

Seems Like uve Followed the instructions correctly but the recovery you are using is outdated OR The .zip Rom file that u have downloaded is corrupted. Try The Following:
1) Enter CWM and flash this recovery, Its the latest Philz Touch Edition of CWM
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3/orig-development/i93xx-philz-touch-t2002953
As u said Phone isnt booting then u can place the zip file of philz externally in ur external sd and flash from there.
After u flash Philz touch REINSTALL the rom following the same steps as u did earlier or as some of the members suggested u and see what happens.
2) IF 1 Doesnt work den redownload the rom put it in ur SD and Reflash
I'm Sure one of the Above 2 has to work
