I have a few queries regarding returning my Galaxy S2 for repair under warranty
Background
I bought the phone in August 2011 from eBay without a receipt and it has been an awesome phone but I have recently had a problem with the phone as discussed here which basically has made it unusable as a phone. As the phone is within the warranty period of 24 months I was looking at sending the phone back to Samsung. The phone was originally locked to O2 but was unlocked by myself for use with my T-Mobile sim. It has been restored back to the latest T-Mobile original firmware, unrooted and the download mode counter reset.
Issues
I went to register my phone but unfortunately I do not have the date of purchase of the phone which is a mandatory field when registering. With this in mind I have decided to get in touch with the eBay seller to see if he can provide me with a receipt or at least a date of purchase.
My queries are:
Will I be able to send the phone back without receipt of purchase?
I not, is there any other proof of purchase I can use without a receipt?
As far as Im aware only the original owner has warranty-not you.You can go to samsung site and it tells you when the phone was made.
Also email and ask them if you have warranty or not.
My wife sent her phone back and had to supply a few things including proof of purchase.
And all that hassle for them to fix crashes/overheating.........what did one of em mugs do.....,..reinstall 4.0.4 which I could have done myself!
Your example proves that buying 2nd hand can be/is a false economy. It shouldnt matter who owns the phone for samsung to honour their warranty, but since they are a shower of useless pri**s.......there you go.

Hi,
Just went through this same thing. I brought my S2 from ebay and the phone was fine other than it would not get recognised by my laptops or desktops no matter what I tried it always came up with 'unknow device'. The phone was stock but just over a year old. I registered it with Samsung using the purchase date as the one when I brought it form ebay and it registered fine.
I used their service center email facility a couple of times to see what they would suggest but after exhausting all other options and their suggestions I rang them up and asked them to take it back and resolve the issue. They checked the serial number confirmed it was still covered under the 24 month warranty and sent me a returns envelope. They then fixed the phone and have put it in the post just yesterday I should get it back today or tomorrow.
I did explain to them that I was the second owner having just brought it from ebay and they asked when it was originally purchased and I told them I think it must have been July'ish 2011 and they said fine. As the original owner didn't have their receipt anymore I could send them the ebay/paypal receipt from when I purchased it and that would be fine...so I did...job done.

How long has it taken for the phone to be fixed since you sent it?

Basically I handed the parcel into the post office on Thursday 6th Sept in the morning and it was delivery to them on Friday they then had the device repaired and back in the post by yesterday morning.

I just wanted to know if anyone had exchanged thier g-tablet through Woot.com so that I could see what the process is. I've been trying to get my gtab repaired\replaced all week since it stopped charging. I've gotten absolutely nowhere with viewsonic, unless you count empty promises as getting somewhere, and in fact I forgot that I had sent an email to Woot.com seeing if I should go through them to get the device repaired\replaced.
Then out of nowhere, about 15 minutes ago, I got an email from Woot that a replacement was being shipped to me, and it's already in transit from texas!
I was just wondering, am I being sent an actual replacement device, and I'll return the malfunctioning one, or are they sending me a self addressed box so that I can send my g-tab in and wait for a replacement?
The shipping weight of the package they're sending me is about 3.6 lbs, so it seems like they may actually be sending me a real replacement, and then I'll send them the broken one...which would be totally badace.
Anyone had any experience with exchanging goods from Woot.com?
My WootTab arrived on Marth 30th, DOA. I looked on the woot.com faq and it said many times, they run out of stock so the most times, a refund was the only option. Because of what I read on the FAQ, I decided to just RMA it through Viewsonic. At the time, they still had the 800 number support and the CS guy I talked to was American and the office was located in Texas.
Yesterday, I tried calling to find out where my replacement was and found they had changed the number to non-toll-free number located in Beverly Hills, CA. and everyone (except for a lady named Sue) spoke with a foriegn accent, some very hard to understand. Sue actually did call me back and gave me my fedex tracking number and said it was in transit.
So, I do not know if I got lucky or not, but RMAing it through Viewsonic was not too painful. Just had to pay to ship it back, but I shipped it USPS so it was pretty cheap.
Mine arrived with a dead pixel, so I contacted ViewSonic to see if they would take it back. They directed me to send an email to [email protected] with my order number and why I needed an exchange. I did so, and received back an email a day or two later with a link to print out a FedEx Ground label for my return package. Sometime after I dropped it off at FedEx, I had confirmation that Woot had mailed me a new Gtab. Nothing was said regarding cross-shipping, but I am sure they get a notice when the barcode from the return package is scanned in.
The new Gtab arrived pristine and working, however I could not get the OTA update. I'm waiting for their server to come back online so I may get the official update, and begin the process of rooting.
I too got a replacement through Woot. Was really painless and the new one arrived within a week. I actually haven't even send the first one back yet.... You have a few weeks to print out the Fedex label.
Has anyone experienced AT&T warranty service? Due to a problem with the camera, they said they would ship a refurbished device. Has anyone experienced a refurbished device? I'm wondering if it would be better to send it to Samsung so they repair it?
the at&t warranty service is pretty good, the phone is pretty much brand new and in perfect working condition most of the time. I personally prefer the warranty service over a repair from samsung
I'll have to find out how long I have before they expect my device to ship back to them. I'd like to run it through the paces first for a week or so..
I've not had to have my SGSII replaced, but I did have to replace the Captivate due to random shutdowns. The replacement refurbished phone is still going strong and has never had a problem. It looked like brand new when it came. It's the wife's now, since last October.
Well, I've had to replace mine twice. First one had an issue with the USB port, they sent me what appeared to be a "new" device; that is, it had a full sticker under the battery, and all the warning plastics were on it, but it came in an envelope. I warranty'd that one because the headphone jack died after a week.
The second one is a normal refurb unit. Have not had any issues with the second refurb, and that was almost two months ago.
Had to replace 2 infuses, tho one was insurance, and one GSII. Warranty's were due to the stupid USB port issue, wonder if they fixed that in newer phones?
I never had a refurbished phone sent to me. all 3 were brand new devices. GSII was done fairly soon after it was released. but on the infuse Im not sure why i didnt get a refurb.
Mine is a refurbished i777, got it back In last December and two weeks in found out that the flash didn't work. Called Samsung, and they gave me free round trip shipping and free repair because of warranty. Restored to stock and sent it in, got it back in two weeks.
Also, I called att first but they told me to call Samsung. And according to Att, I only had three months of warranty, but then Samsung said that I have one year. Don't know if that means I have two warranties or either att or Samsung was wrong.
I have three things refurbished, a Canon camera and printer, then this phone. So far only the phone has ever had a problem, but it was easy to get it fixed, so no big deal. I personally like to buy refurbished things, but I will only buy the ones with warranties.

Any reason you didn't use ATT's warranty service instead of Samsung, to avoid the 2 weeks without the device?

I called ATT first too see what options I would have, they offered to replace my refurbished i777 with skyrocket but I have to pay the difference. I didn't take that of course, then I think it was ATT suggested me to call Samsung, I might have gotten the idea my own, don't remember much about this part. then sent the phone to Texas and tracked the update on my phone everyday nervously cus my phone was root then restored to stock, afraid that Samsug might find out. But I guess they didn't. got my i777 back in 2 weeks. Since then flash and reflash like an addict, and nothing is wrong with this phone so far.
I recently had to get my device repaired or replaced. Samsung Communication was clear and the turn-around was fairly quick. I prefer Samsung repair over getting an AT&T refurbished device; I've had bad experiences in the past with refurbished quality. It was a while ago, so other's opinions about refurbished service may be more accurate. I'll always prefer Samsung over AT&T though.
Funny this thread came up. The power button went out on my phone. Would not work at all. Made it quite difficult to do all the nonsense at&t wanted me to do to "troubleshoot" a hardware problem. Anyways after 3 calls to them in a matter of 12 hours they finally shipped my second replacement that I've had of the S2. What pissed me off is I am currently without a phone and they said it would be 6 days before they got it to be or for 14.95 they would ship it next day. If anything they should be paying me for the fact that I cant use their service but it is what it is. /rant. Can't wait till my phone comes in so I can get some jelly bean going on though.

That's funny because my power button just died too... Except I was able to turn on my phone but that was about it. I couldn't get it to wake up or go to sleep unless I plugged in the phone. I'm debating whether to send it to Samsung or go to the AT&T but if it looks like AT&T is just going to replace it with the Skyrocket, I may just send it in to Samsung. Though 2 weeks without a phone will be crazy =P.

When I spoke to ATT'S warranty people, they mentioned that the refurbished devices are done by the manufacturer. Not sure if that's a bunch of hooey, but I'll give it a shot rather than sending it off to Sammy
To those about to deal with ATT: I spoke to them today and the rep gave me some "good news" that they're out of the S2 but can send me the skyrocket. I said forget it, I'll send it to Samsung. So the rep says hold on, I put it on speaker for a few minutes, and she comes back to tell me she "found" a supposedly new S2 at another warehouse they can ship to me. So refusing the skyrocket is what needs to be done. So now with 14 days to return the device, it gives time to put the replacement through the paces
I just called about the camera not focusing and making that buzz sound. They said the i777 was backordered and would be replaced with a skyrocket. I said no, and asked if I could early upgrade or get anything else. They said no. I asked if a service center might have one, they said they can't verify the stock, but I could try. I really pushed for anything other than the skyrocket, politely, and they said no. It would be free, but my only option. I guess if the service center doesn't have one I'll call back and try again. I really want an S III, in red, but I could live until may when I qualify for upgrade with a One X.

I guess I was lucky. My replacement S2 is supposed to arrive tomorrow. But if they had stonewalled me like that I was prepared to send it to Samsung. Why not go wit that? Btw they also offered to allow me out of the contract early with an S3,but at $299...a little too much imo

My power button stopped working and after finally getting back to stock with difficulty, I took it in to AT&T's Device Warranty Service Center (they have a few of those in most states) and they replaced it on the spot with a refurbished unit. This was yesterday so only time will tell if the refurbished one will hold up.

I've heard that the refurbs are sometimes more reliable than ones out of the box because they have replaced parts that they know people have had regular problems with (i.e. usb port, power button). I bought mine brand new last December with no problems, so I hope I didn't just jinx myself for saying that.
Just wondering if anyone could give me an idea about whats happening with my s2
Sent it away to samsung for repair, the screen under the gorilla glass has cracked for a 2nd time (the phone had never been dropped)
I used the prepaid service to send my phone to them just after new year, i tracked it by royal mail and it arrived and got signed for.
I had been keeping an eye on the service request online and today it changed to say canceled under the status, i have tried phone samsung about what this meant for my repair, the guy on the phone told me he had to send an email to the correct department to get me an update on what is happening and have to wait 24hrs for their reply.
Just curious if anyone here has used this service before? is this a normal thing to happen or has something gone wrong
The first time i had to get a repair i went though phones4u (uk) so i dont know what the correct practice is here.
Just a bit worrying not knowing whats going on ;/
Thanks
alright guys in need of some help getting my phone replaced. My phone no longer charges
seems others are having the same issue here: http://forums.androidcentral.com/samsung-galaxy-s4/275276-galaxy-s4-wont-charge-4.html
anyhow, ordered the phone through newegg and they only have a 14-day return policy, saying they cant replace it even defective.
Verizon says I'll get a refurb?
Does samsung offer some kind of 30day?
thanks
(ive had the phone for about 22 days now)

Unfortunately after the 14 day mark, you are pretty much getting a refurb. I was also a victim of the no charging issue but got lucky as it happened on my 12th day and was able to just swap out in store for a new one.
On the plus side, I think Verizon will replace for any hardware issue such as this with a refurb for a year. At this point the phone is new enough where a refurb may not be all that bad(obviously no way to know for sure) as it may just be customer returns they are using for replacements.
Anyway, that's about as much as I can pass along from my experiences.
Good Luck
After the initial 14 days, Verizon will replace with a CLNR, assuming one is available. If not, they'll sacrifice a new phone as a replacement.
The manufacturer warranties the phone for one year. They will repair or replace the phone at their discretion. The problem is that it may take weeks for then to repair the phone and ship it back to you.

ahh thanks guys. looks like ill be going CLNR route
I just issued a replacement for my device. I have had it for more than 14 days - however when they issued my replacement device I asked about if it was a refurbished phone or not. She said that it is either a brand new phone - or its a phone someone returned within 14 days due to them not liking it.

So for those who bought n7 from kjiji or craigslist and have no bill of sale, apparently you can email [email protected] and get a replacement for your n7. No refund unless you got a bill of sale. Has anyone tried this? I sent them an email for my n7 so we will see what happens. Here is their reply so far:

*
This will take approximately 2-3 weeks based on the agreement date.

The agreement date is reflective on the date that your device is shipped back to Samsung."
Nov 23 Update 2 got the shipping box from enr support and sent my n7 today. Let's see how long it takes for them to send me my replacment s7 edge.
Update Dec 21 got an email from Samsung that they received new stocks and will ship my replacement in couple of days. This makes it exactly a month since i sent my N7 for replacement.
that is correct as far as i know.
I have bought another note 7 aside from my own for a friend. Unfortunately was not able to unlock it.
They gave her the same email for exchange. I will wait for few more people on the unlock code if it is unsuccessful then we will have to return the device to samsung and get s7 edge+100$ gift card.
As for my personal note 7, even tho it has 60% battery im keeping this until the end.
Now as far as the program itself and whether or not you get the return, i do not know. Keep us updated if you go for it before i do.

Will do. I would have kept mine too and don't mind the 60% battery cap but i hate the annoying popups. Plus sooner or later they will blacklist and I can't afford to buy another phone.
I bought one off of Kijiji, and I want to return it to Samsung for an exchange since Rogers won't let me return it to them - but what if the guy who sold it to me already returned the original one to Samsung? Mine has a green battery, so I know it's a replacement device.
I'm just worried about sending my $1000 phone to Samsung and having them say that they already sent the other guy an S7!

Send them email and they will determine whether you are eligible for a replacement or not only then they will send you a box to return the device. Im waiting for my confirmation email atm to see if they will qualify me for replacement or not. If no then f them lol i wont send them my n7 ?
P. S mine is the original n7 not the replacement
If you guys get the 60% battery capp downgrade your firmware to the original one i do it all the time you can get the firmware from sammoible website

Yeah ofcousre under normal conditions lol. Not in this case.
Imho you're lucky to have received an answer that quickly. Or maybe I'm just unlucky. Here is a list of my interactions with Samsung Customer support so far:
-Chat support saying she will transmit my information to the exchange team and I should receive an email from them "as soon as possible"
-Phoning Samsung Canada, who said (at the time) they couldn't do anything if I bought the phone on Kijiji.
-Phoning the Note 7 Return number, who took my infos and said they would transmit it to Samsung Canada exchange team (even if I said chat support had already done so).
-After two weeks, having another chat support who did the same thing but was unable to tell me if I had a support ticket ongoing.
-Samsung Office of the President customer support complain, received a confirmation email saying they would answer the next business day... 10 business days later, they still haven't.
-Another chat support who FINALLY informed me of the existence of the enrsupport email adress for Note 7 exchange. Sent them an email the same day as you (except in the morning). Didn't get an answer yet.
Any tips? Should I just wait? They never wanted to say how long was "as soon as possible", but seeing they seem to have been more reactive with other people... I just dunno what to do.

It took awhile for me too to get a reply from them... 3days. But the first email was right away... Asking for info...automatic. Just wait a bit they will get to you. I think the enrsupport devision was created newly to deal with cases like ours and perhaps that is why Samsung online chat nd phone had no clue what to do.
Is there a way to just exchange in person to avoid the headache of waiting a crazy 2 to 3 weeks?

No they didn't give me any option like that. Yess i hatw the wait times too. I changed my mind i m not sending mine for exchange now that i fixed the 60% battery cap.
4 weeks? This is not as bad as my friend has it right now.
She has sent an email to the number Smasung provided to her. With all her info and the cellphone info. Tomorrow will be One Week since she sent that email to them. No One has gotten back to her yet.
I don't even think it went though yet
"delivery delayed"

Damn i m lucky then. But the funny thing is i changed my mind i don't want to exchange my n7 for s7 edge unless they start black listing it. I will keep their return box safe for now . I only considered it because of 60% battery cap but that is not an issue anymore.

I restored to original Rom for my phone in odin nd then used package disabler pro to permanently disable updates.
E-mailed them 4 days ago with all the info they requested in their auto-reply, no reply from Samsung...
