If you follow the instructions very well, it cannot fail.
And if it fails, the risks depends on where and how it failed!

Or just connect to USB, andd flash the firmware via Odin like it says in the Guide?

I just flashed the I9100XWLPG firmware and I did not do any factory reset. All the apps and everything is the same as before.
I stillhavent encoutered the wifi problem though, as it doesnt happen all the time, but it happens sometimes, so I still don't know if its fixed ir not.
What should I do now? Do a factory reset and flash the firmware again?
I guess i will reflash the firmware again if I encounter the problem again, and I will not forget the factory reset.
By the way here is how my Settings > About phone looks now after flashing the firmware via Odin.

If you are already rooted using CF-ROOT kernel, then trying to use a non-kernel method again, is both hilarious and time wasting.
If flashing Siyah kernel is your priority, in order to overclock, then let's go straight to the point

I assume from the information given above:
1. You are presently on ICS 4.0.3 xxlpj firmware.
2. You rooted your phone via non-kernel method and your phone was rooted.
3. You did not ROOT your phone by flashing CF-ROOT kernel, contrary to what you claimed in your first and second posts
3. Anytime you flash Siyah kernel image via mobile Odin, your phone is stucked on boot.
Please correct me if I'm wrong or missed anything

Hi, i just got a new s2 on orange, plugged it into kies and it updated to 4.0.4. I want to root this phone to get rid of all oranges annoying bloatware but have just read somewhere about the latest update causing phones to hard brick. There are some safe kernels you can flash over stock that will root without the brick bug. Using Odin you can flash siyah, neek, speed mod and probably others without breaking your new phone!

[Q] Need help, sim disappeared and system strangely behaving

Hello, my first post here. In february I modified my phone (swedish) and it has all been working ok up until yesterday. Well actually for the last couple of weeks the battery has started running hot and draining fast. But yesterday the sim disappeared and I can get no connection, it even gets stuck when I put it in flight mode.
So I figured I should update things in the best way, but how to go about it. I used guides to get it done last time but I have forgotten most of that and I would be very grateful for help to proceed. I need a stable system only, no clocking etc.
Greetings/ Roger

Baseband version Unknown

Jokesy, the phone is now working so thanks. One question, is it a good idea to update it to latest version via Kies now? And then root it?Because this is a standard samsung flash right? Again thanks!

if ur rooting ur phone and trying to install a custom rom then there is no point in updating to the latest stock version
if u want to continue with stock, then its good to update it to the latest version
To clarify, I see a 4.0.4 for nordic countries at the same place where the 4.0.3 was. So would it be safe to upgrade it to 4.0.4 using Odin?Or is 4.0.4 a whole different matter? Cheers

Ok, so I can update to 4.0.4 using Odin or Kies and then Root it then? I need that to unlock the carrier.
Would upgrading mean a full swipe?
Regards

no upgrading is not fullwipe, but in order to have stability u have to do a factory reset after upgrading
before doing factory reset u can backup ur phone with KIES
Dont upgrade to 4.0.4, until you aren't aware of emmc Superbrick Bug
Peace
Hit Thanks & It will Disappear

Automatic root?

Ages ago, I rooted my phone using an automatic rooter, but now I can't seem to find it. Can someone help me please?
If u are on GB then download Siyah 2.6.14.TAR and use Odin Method as described in other Threads.
If u are on ICS download latest Siyah 4.1.5.Tar same method as above.

ROM or firmware are not different so just post what I asked you to do. It's very simple
