Hello,
I hear nothing but great things about custom ROMS, especially DCD and would like to try one. I have spent the last few weeks reading all the threads located here on XDA-Developers and on PPCGeeks regarding upgrading an OEM Verizon XV6800 to a custom ROM.
Below are the instructions I have come up with. I would appreciate it if this wonderful community could provide any suggestions or corrections to my steps. Based on your responses I will create a finalized guide for other users to follow.
I have received very mixed results regarding the overall procedure. Some say you must first flash the Sprint ROM and then flash DCD (To upgrade the radio). Others say you can just flash radio 3.39 and then flash DCD 3.1.6. My below steps are going on the assumption you can just flash the radio 3.39 and then flash DCD 3.1.6.
Phone has
Software Version: 2.09.605.8 (I believe this is the ROM version)
Firmware Version: 1.30.60 (I believe this is the radio version)
I have doccumented my
NAM, SCM, ESN (Hex & Decimal) and MSID.
1. Backup everything
2. Connect the phone to the computer using USB cable and ensure it can establish an active sync connection.
3. While the phone is connected to the computer and running Windows Mobile 6.0 run titan_SPL_2.40-olipro.exe to unlock the phone.
4. Reboot the phone and put it in to bootloader mode (Hold down Power button, camera button and press the soft reset button with the stylus until the multi color bootloader screen appears).
5. While in bootloader mode flash the radio to 3.39
6. While in bootloader mode flash the DCD 3.1.6 ROM
7. After reboot install the Verizon carrier cab. Call verizon and let them know you have hard reset your phone so it can be re-authorized with their network.
everything looks good, what i would do though is flash the 3.39 sprint rom to get the radio. and you may not have to call verizon i just got a replacement phone and flashed up did the *22899 and everything worked with out having to call and get a a key.

another suggestion i've seen somewhere else is to turn the phone into flight mode prior to flashing... not sure if it works but would be interested to know
also: DO NOT FORGET to soft reset just beforethe customizations run (when you are finished flashing and the phone reboots itself for the first time..)... you do NOT want the sprint customizations to run, on your Verizon device.

if it's your first time you won't know when the sprint customizations are running. so just don't hit the screen or anything until AFTER you flash a DCD rom

I was in the exact same spot just a few weeks ago, flashing my XV6800 for the first time. I researched and prepared like you have and I think you're ready to pull the trigger.
My only advice is to use the SD method to flash the radio and OS ROMs. I wasn't able o connect via USB after upgrading the radio and the microSD method was incredibly easy and far faster than USB seemed.
Dialing *228 was all I needed after the process was complete, no new A-Key needed or manual entry of provisioning data.
Just remember, when in the process of flashing your phone, keep calm & carry on.
VX6800 upgrade procedures please
I too have read all the post on this and PPCGEEKS and have issues within myself. I start out with a high confidence level and after you get through a page or two of; yes, but do this instead ..... you are left with nothing but total confusion and contradictions. My confidence level is then well down the ladder.
I (we) would all like to hear from a VERIZON VX6800 owner (no sprinters please, sorry) who has actually done this with step by step instructions. Please don't assume we know anything, many like myself are knowledgeable in technical fields but not with PPC's.
This is my most serious concern. I ONLY have access to machines running Vista. I have heard that something, don't know what, will stop at 11% some people say not. What might stop and why? Ive also been told that there are new drivers for 'mobile device center' that fix this problem but no driver dates or version No's are posted anywhere. Any advice here would be helpfully also.
I know several folks who are also waiting for me (the guinea pig) to do this and they will follow.
Thanks for the time all have put into this effort.
All of the instructions and options for flashing are up-to-date in the Wiki.
I own and operate an xv6800, I used the methods listed in every sticky to flash my first time, never had a problem.
I have always used DCD's ROMS and used whatever he had posted in whatever thread for every ROM/kitchen. The man is thorough in putting the necessities in his threads.
Now I just flash whenever, no problems. I run 32 bit vista and xp on my machines and neither gives a headache.
The wiki is your guide to a successful upgrade. Study it.
Nonetheless, for those wanting VZW-specific instructions, here's how I upgraded my XV6800 to radio 3.39.10 and dcd's 3.1.2 a couple weeks ago.
I take no responsibility for anything you do to your device.
Code:
I. Upgrade bootloader
A. Establish an ActiveSync connection via USB
B. Execute Hard-SPL-MFG.exe to upgrade the bootloader to 2.40
[url]ftp://up.ppcgeeks.com/Titan/Users/ImCoKeMaN/roms/Hard-SPL-MFG.exe[/url]
Follow the steps in the command window closely - they are very clear
II. Format a microSD card for installing radio and OS ROMs
A. Using a card reader attached to your computer, format a microSD card into FAT32 with an allocation unit/cluster size of 1024
1. Open a command prompt and type
format ?: /FS:FAT32 /A:1024
where ? is the drive letter assigned to the microSD
III. Use microSD to install Radio ROM
A. Download radio 3.39.10
[url]http://rapidshare.com/files/113794877/radio339.rar[/url]
B. Un-rar
C. Copy RUU_signed.nbh to your microSD card
D. Rename RUU_signed.nbh to TITAIMG.nbh
E. Insert microSD card into phone
F. Force into bootloader by pressing POWER+CAMERA+RESET
G. Bootloader will load and begin loading the ROM on the microSD
F. When radio upgrade is complete, reset phone and force into bootloader
IV. Use microSD to install OS ROM
A. Download the OS ROM (e.g. dcd_titan_3.1.2)
B. OS ROM will be .exe file. Use WinRAR to extract files, one of which will have an .nbh extension
C. Copy *.nbh (e.g. dcd_titan_3.1.2.nbh) to your microSD card
D. Rename *.nbh to TITAIMG.nbh
E. Insert microSD card into phone
F. If not in bootloader, force into bootloader by pressing POWER+CAMERA+RESET
G. Bootloader will load and begin loading the ROM on the microSD
F. When OS upgrade is complete reset phone, eject the card, reset the phone
You will more than likely need your USB-headphone dongle/adapter that came with the phone.
After I upgraded my phone, resetting the phone caused the bootloader to appear instead of
loading the OS. For whatever reason, with the 11-pin USB dongle this doesn't happen
and the OS ROM boots without a problem.
V. Follow on screen instructions and allow customizations to run. Phone will reset when complete.
VI. Install Verizon carrier cab, reset when complete.
[url]http://www.lifesnotsogood.com/dcd1182/titan/carriers/dcd%20Titan%20Carrier%20-%20Verizon.cab[/url]
VI. Dial *228, reset when complete
VII. From your phone, browse to [url]http://ota.wsync.com/[/url] to download, install the XV6800 Over The Air sync client
After I upgraded the radio I wasn't able to load the stock OS and was unable to establish an ActiveSync connection via USB, thus was unable to use the RUU method. Using a card reader and microSD method to flash the new OS ROM saved my ass. I won't flash any other way now.

Can you explain this more? Are you saying everytime i reboot my phone i will need the USB/Headphone adapter plugged in? Or just the first boot?
Also, I dont have a SD reader. Can i just copy the files to my SD card with the SD in the phone and connected via USB?
Thanks,
Mitchell

For me, only about 1 in 3 reboots do NOT require the USB dongle. I have no idea why that is, I think it's an issue with the bootloader, but there are some threads on this board with more technical info. (I work in IT and carry a whole mess of cables in my bag, so it wasn't a huge concern of mine to tote the USB-headphone adapter around.)

Nope. You can read/write to the card but I don't think you can change the file system of the card while it's in the phone. Card readers are cheap, less than $20, and very handy to have.

Also, when getting the required info before i start i dont see a key for security when i do a ##778. Is this ok/normal for verizon?
Thanks again!

After the entire process was complete you are able to sync with the PC? Just not prior to doing the ROM update? Syncing is essential to me for backups etc.
Thanks for all the advice guys!!
wow, so i just remember i had a SD reader on my linux server. I went down and loaded up my VM of XP. Started to format my SD card and it blue screened and now I cant get my SD card to reconize in my computer or phone. I guess that a worthless piece of plastic now.. Ill try the USB method.

That was the same for me when I checked my EPST before upgrading. That's a good thing: you don't have an A-Key (security) now so you won't need one after flashing.

Correct. However, now when I sync I have to use the USB/Headphone dongle. I can also sync via Bluetooth.
I just want to say thank you to everyone. I was able to get DCD 3.1.6 running by flashing the Sprint ROM and then flashing DCD 3.1.6. The only problem I'm having is getting Radio 3.39 to load. It will get to 8% and then the phone reboots.
If anyone is near newport news VA and wouldnt mind helping me out with upgrading my 6800 let me know. Ill provide the beer
Before you start, backup anything on your phone you might want to keep after the new Rom has been flashed as all contacts, emails, texts, notes, Internet BookMarks/ ect. WILL be lost!!
PimBackup is good and free (copy any mms attachments to your storage card or computer seperately)

** FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS AND HELP WHEN FLASHING **
1. What the benifits are of flashing a new rom?
Flashing a New Rom basically gets rid of all the garbage thats included on Stock Roms and Flashes a Clean, Optimized, Fully loaded Rom that will squeeze every ounce of speed and stability from your phone. Chefs usually include all the programs you are ever likely to need and because the Rom has been cleaned out you are left with more memory to play around with.
2. What are the different types of Unlock? (answer by DaveShaw)
The three stages of unlock are:
SIM: Allows you to use SIM's from another carrier. Can be done using codes or unlocker programs on xda-devs.
Security: Allows you to flash radios from another device (i.e. Raphael) - It does other stuff, but this is all the casual user will use it for
CID: CID unlocking is an old concept, nowadays you flash Hard SPL instead. This lets you flash any ROM, Splash or Radio (depending on sec unlock) to your device. N.B. the CID is the carrier ID (e.g. HTC__001). The stock SPL's only let you flash ROM's that match the CID in the ROM image with the CID on your device.
Also, SuperCID is an even older concept no longer valid on newer devices.
Wow, Great job Mskip!
Just wat i was looking for.
A couple questions though...
1. These instructions will also work on the Fuze, right?
2. Once the phone is done flashing and it is booting up, we are sopposed to HARD RESET when we get to the Stylus Config part?...I didnt know that...ive read some other tutorials, and this step isnt included? ?
Fuze, yes. Sprint, no. There's no Hard-SPL for CDMA phones yet I believe.
Thanks a lot! just what I was looking for (the bit about not needing CID unlock to flash roms.. just hardspl).
gj, mskip, but shouldn't you be clear that your instructions and links are only for GSM Raphaels???? As of the past few weeks the flood gates are now open among 5 North American carriers for the CDMA version of the Raphael. No sense in encouraging confusion and hassles from those less in the know.
There is a release for an unlocker for the CDMA phones, but after a quick search some may mistakenly find themselves to your links and info here.

might sound stupid, but I think you should say what RUU means and what it is...
first time I flashed hardSPL I couldnt find what this RUU means (while reading steps before flashing).
I started flashing without knowing what it was, when I opened the .exe its title was self-explaining, but its hard to know before starting... because the .exe name is not RUU or something like that
Sorry for bad english!

Bricked Fuze?
I was using OliPro Rapheal Unlocker and seemed to have bricked myself. (my fault, I understand the risk) I'm not a total newbee, but first time I ran into this. Any ideas how to get past a Upgrade ROM code error? Updated from 8525 to Fuze.

Can you explain exactly what you have done to your phone and when you bricked it please. Also can you load your Rom up or does it get stuck.
Have you tried flashing the HardSPL from Step1?

If you flashed the hardspl, then you should be fine and should not have done any lasting damage. You didn't read the part of the instructions that tell you that you must first flash a 1.01 version of the att radio. You can get that here:
http://www.rapidspread.com/file.jsp?id=v3q7csfizy
If you don't then you get the rom upgrade error. Just put your phone into bootloader (tri-color screen), and flash that radio. Also, as always, questions about specific roms, apps, etc should be posted in the thread they came from. That is where all the people most knowledgable about the subject are most likely to read it.
@Mskip, i think that SPL is for his 8525 not his fuze.

I did know and realize that, and your walkthrough doesn't give instructions for that either, but rather for flashing a ROM using the mSD method.
I was referring to flashing a new ROM from the MicroSD card and getting this error message in the HardSPL Bootloader screen. The ROM image has the proper name (RAPHIMG.nbh) but isn't seen by the OliNex bootloader.
Hi there... I bought my T-Mobile Touch Plus from UK a year ago, and have been trying to follow this forum ever since... but have had trouble understanding most of it, due to my limited understand of hardspls, roms, and all that stuff.
The phone has been very disappointing, as I had a much faster and reliable experience on my Magician.
Been to lazy to do anything about it until now...
My phone is still 100% stock standard from T-Mobile UK and its model is a NIKI200.
Can someone tell me what I need to do to make it a half decent phone?
I have also tried to get the official 6.1 OS update... but have been unable to due to my serial number not being right or something. Will it matter if I try upgrading it anyway with those files?
Thanks

1. download the spl files (flash-uspl-niki.zip & sspl-1.16-nike).
2. REMOVE SIM and SD CARDS !!
3. connect usb cable
4. copy sspl-1.16-nike.exe to your device and run it (usb cable must be connected!)
5. after a few seconds "USB" appears on the display
6. unplug and replug the usb cable
8. you can now flash the USPL by running ROMUpdateUtility.exe from flash-uspl-niki
9. after installing the uspl the phone will reboot
10. after that you can flash the new HTC rom update.
Download the HTC rom update from the following location:

Hi
I've just tried to flash my phone to run Android but I think I've made a bit of a bodge of it.
I got it to SPL-1.66.0000 then it was showing that it was running that HSPL on the Bootloader now it's just showing SPL-1.66.0000.
I cannot start the phone I get a purple circle that's it like I always did just before starting the phone and it usually goes past that and into Windows.
I can get into Bootloader but I've no idea what to flash, what to flash it to and how to do it.
If there is anymore information you want to know then please do ask It'd be very greatful if someone can lend us a hand getting this running.
Thanks
I've now actually read the instructions and found out that it wipes the phone, however I've got Magldr installed but I cannot open it I'm running SPL-2.08.HSPL
However, again I get the Purple Circle, I've tried pressing the "Phone" button to get into Magldr as I was told, I've found another one which told me to press both UP/DOWN Volume which sent me to another Recovery place.
Any help would be great.
What exactly is your target?
What ROM was originally on your device (branded or non-branded)?
I bought the HTC HD2 today - It WAS locked to T-Mobile now unlocked, however unlike other T-Mobile HD2's I've seen it hasn't got branding on the top BUT did have Branding on the boot up.
So
Non-Branded Casing
Branded Software
My Target
To run Android 2.3
I think a good start for you is here: Klick!
You will have to decide if you want to run Android from SD card or NAND.
Running Android from SD card means you don´t have to delete the Windows Mobile ROM, many people like the "dual boot" option. In this case, you should read the instructions of the ROM chef how to install.
In short, if you want to install Android in NAND memory, you must do this:
1) Install HSPL (if not already done)
2) Install Radio ROM 2.15.50.04
3) Install MAGLDR 1.3
4) Install your Android ROM
If you follow the link, you´ll find more links to step-by-step instructions.
Ok, half bricked it while trying to update SPL to 2.05 with goldcard...
I understand that a half brick is when you hold both volume buttons down on boot and neither serial nor usb show up in the spl screen. Between this and my inability to flash the SPL 2.05 (gets stuck at "Loading..." and takes several minutes to even get past "Load USB Host". I've left it at "Loading..." for an hour, no progess...)... I'm stuck and need help.
When I hold the volume down button at boot and connect to Zune, I get this error: c101002e
I've read that this can be solved with the windows phone support tools... but MS's page also says not to use this on versions higher than 7.0.7something. Unfortunately I forced the update to 8107, so I don't want to find out what happens when you ignore the warning.
Basically everything is stock ATT except the forced update;
Radio:16.23.02.26_A_16.27.00.23U
SPL 1.10
Is there anything I can do to fix this? Please help
Update 1;
Tried to flash the SPL2.6 update from HTC using goldcard, no dice, gets stuck at "Loading..."
Tried to flash the Eternity cingular stock rom, once again, stuck at "Loading..."
I think I'm beginning to see a pattern; USB host works as far as reading the SD card, but beyond that it fails...
Update 2;
I wonder if I can reapply the firmware through cab sender? I would need firmware cabs for the htc titan, preferably ones that are compatible with the new hspl! I can't find any, been searching for hours...
Was the HSPL process successfully completed? Have you tried to put the phone back into USB com mode (camera + vol down + power) and putting the OSPL back on?
You're the first I've heard having this problem. Since you're using the Gold Card Method, I assume that your phone is a US AT&T Titan.
I hope you get it going.

Not sure if you visited this page or not, but here are the instructions for flashing the HSPL. Further down the 1st post you'll find how to un-install it. I would try that since it doesn't sound as if your flash was successful.
Here is the link to the actual gold card method, if you haven't seen that as well.
No, didn't even get to HSPL. The instructions say to flash SPL 2.05 first, which isn't working. I'm stuck on the stock 1.10 SPL.
No matter what I try, any combination of flashing the original stock ROM, the HTC SPL update, etc, goldcard always gets stuck at "Loading..." so I think it's safe to say goldcard is broken as well, unless someone knows a foolproof fix.
Camera + Volume Down + Power... I assume you mean USB Host mode which is just Camera + Volume Down at bootup (holding the power button causes the phone to reboot). USB Host mode is how you use gold card, and like I said, it gets stuck at "Loading...". It does in fact read my SD cards because I saw the blinking LED that signals activity on one of the USB to microSD readers I tried.
Moreover there is nothing to uninstall since I am unable to install anything. I can use the WP7 cab sender, if I could just get the bootloader in cab form I think this would solve my problems; I think the stock SPL became corrupted somehow and needs to be reflashed... and I do not know anything about JTAG
When you made your Gold Card, did it say success or give you a problem?
Are you using a multi card reader or a single card reader for your gold card?
it says success.
I've tried two microSD cards, and three different card readers. I have gotten the CID for each card and properly applied the CID to each card, and properly formatted each in fat32 several times...
I've tried using the HD2 in Magldr usb mass storage mode, HD2 in android mass storage mode, HD2 in windows mobile mass storage mode... they all appear to work as it gets as far as "Loading..."
Moreover I have a single card reader and a multi card reader.. each making no difference; stuck at "Loading..."
I have tried a hundred different combinations which all appear to be successful if not for the fact that I'm pretty sure my SPL is corrupted.
Wow, that really sucks! Sorry I can't help. I haven't even done it myself yet. My y-cable will be here hopefully Friday.
The only other thing I would make sure of if I were in your situation is looking at the pics in gold card method post, I see that the gold card is to be placed in the female end at the bottom of the Y. You never said whether you made your own cables or not, but if you did, maybe make certain that it is correctly done.
Damn, while I'm sorry for your situation, I sure hope that I'm not right there with ya when I attempt it. Keep us up-to-date and good luck.
Yeah I bought a new Titan off ebay already XD
However before I open it I'm going to see if I can convince HTC that it was pre existing (it probably was) and that I found out while I was trying to do the official SPL update from HTC using the tool on HTC's site (which is more or less true as well XD). I think I'm still under warranty.
And I was using this Y cable http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000JIOHDE/ref=oh_details_o03_s00_i01
It works, I've tried it in various setups. It's actually really nice; the grey cable doesn't carry data so you can use your computer or laptop for power without worry. But I did in fact use a wall USB charger for goldcard, just in case.
But don't worry, I'm almost sure that this was pre existing; gold card/USB host mode behaved exactly the same from the start, the only thing that has changed is the fact that I can't get Serial / USB connections to show up in SPL anymore (nor can I hard reset from SPL). It worked correctly at least twice...
hey everyone, I fixed it.
USB host mode / gold card works; if you're stuck at "Loading" then your SD card is no good. I went around and tried every mass storage device in my house and found one that works, use the generic goldcard image from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=24809318#post24809318
To get rid of f400 error you need to flash cotulla's ROM, the cingular stock rom did not fix it.
Goldcard SPL up to 2.05, USB worked.
Install HSPL via USB, if that doesn't work, install the stock ROM via USB and start over.
Once HSPL'd at 2.05 USB will NOT work, so you'll need to goldcard cotulla's ROM (remember to rename it from FINAL.nbh to ETERIMG.nbh)
profit.

It's been months since anybody has posted on this thread. There are two ROMs that set this process up. Depending on whether you have the x310a (American brand) or x310e (European). When this process is all said and done it reads x310e regardless where it came from. There is a Cingular 1.09 and an European 1.10...the key here is to downgrade the SPL from 2.05 to 1.09/1.10. Some Titans have lower SPLs depending where you're at. HTC's SPL update to 2.6 complicates this process. Think of as 3 major steps...one, downgrade to one of these ROMs, two, return to SPL205 via Goldcard and then apply DFT's HSPL. Step 2 took me forever to get right and the process is sneaky long...you think you failed but patience will be rewarded. There has been quite a lot of discussion in regards to "newer" Titan (Eternity) which the internal drive is set up in such a way that one is lead to believe it is corrupted or they've been setup like the Titan II (Radiant) which to date remains impossible to HSPL. You're better off using one of the older Titans (Eternity). A few of the links no longer get you the files you need and if they do I would encourage you to download everything that is there and read every tutorial carefully and then again; this isn't for the faint of heart. It's way, way harder than the HD2 or older HTC devices. Nor am I aware any device since the Eternities is HSPL capable other than maybe the Nokia Lumia 920 Developer Edition.

i managed to downgrade to official att rom,and got rid of f400 error, but the spl didn't downgrade...
I installed the rom 3 times with no luck with the spl...
Afterwards i renamed the eu rom from ETERNIMG to ETERDIAG and it installed.
but still the spl is :
PI39100 MFG
SPL-2.5.160015.3(137079)
eMMC SND 15188MB
TOUCH A1(F:81, ID:1,V11,B:F8)
Radio-16.23.02.09_A
I tried to install spl2.05 again (I don't remember but I think it failed), then spl2.6 with no luck, then hspl without results...
Finally I upgraded to 7.8 via cab installer and thats the best I managed to accomplish...
So I can't install any spl or hspl...
when I bought the device ,it had spl 1.09, not 2.6, so I think it's possible to hspl...
