Maybe you disabled OTA update notification and now you have to enable it again? But you need to be rooted to do this (I think)

Try forcing an update from the tablet's Settings > About tablet > System updates. If that does not work, flash the tablet using an OTA update file. You can find links to OTA files in Stifilz's post HERE.

Yes, download the OTA update file and copy it to the tablet's external SD card, then use recovery mode to select and install the file. The links listed in Stifilz's post are valid links; security is not an issue.
Sure it is the external sd?

Yes external sd card. If you choose wrong file DW it can't flash it, only the correct file will work.
Plus you can now root ICS anyway
OR A factory reset may also do the trick. From memory all the disable OTA's does is rename the automagic.apk service (which is for system udpdate) or something like that.

i tried both versions 4.0.3 and 4.0.3 r1a and the tablet tells me that the installation of the update was prohibited due to a result of checking version or base sku. wtf?

hey,
i really appreciate your help. and i would post those files if i only knew how to do that? it starts already that i don't know where to look for them...
ha, a little research will do...
the vendor thing says this
ro.sony.update.service_id=nbx03_007
ro.sony.sku.base=nbx03_007
ro.sony.build.id=TISU0017700
ro.sony.build.incremental=111104048
the region.zip cannot be displayed here because the explorer tells me that i don't have access to the folder /configs. i shall ownload root explorer because i need root to access that folder. but guess what...
Any luck investigating?

*OTA from .368 rooted (global) fail!!!
I have just reflashed 2.3.2 global -> root with Gingerbreak 1.20 -> Update OTA 104Mb --> Successful (Rooted remain)

Maybe it's the same thing that happened before, rooted terminals will not get the update via OTA unless they have a German firmware...
I have NEO with 2.3.3 4.0.A.368 (root), but I cannot find Update software (OTA update) in Settings menus. If I update via OTA will I loose root?

Fail .
I'm also getting the Failed after Failed message... already attempted 5 or 6 times.
I do have a backup of the /system/app files I modified after rooting the last version, so I'm going to restore them to the phone and retry one more time.
I'm trying not to lose all my settings and stuff I did with a complete wipe in order to maintain root...
EDIT:
meh, I backed up all my stuff with titanium and I'm going the old way of flashing back to a rootable version, use gingerbreak and then updating.
I guess a clean install never hurt anyone

So we need to re-flash the 2.3.2 (global? german?), use gingerbreak and then search for the OTA, as we did with the 2.3.3???

Just like what happened when the 2.3.3 got released: if you messed up (replaced) any of the apk in the /system/app, then my guess is that you need to reflash it. The OTA fails (not sure if it's doing some checksum of the apk files).
I'm in the process of updating to the 2.3.4 (downloading right now) from the 2.3.2 Global that I just flashed and rooted with gingerbreak.
Regarding user data, apart from a couple of settings that Titanium might miss, a restore from that app will take only a couple of minutes and all apps and data will be back. (I'll take the chance to keep my system clean and not restoring some apps that I used only once or twice and were sitting there wasting space).
It's probably the safest and fastest method if the OTA fails.

I can confirm that an OTA-update from rooted 4.0.A.2.368 to the new 4.0.1.A.0.283 can be done successfully.
Did it just now and now I have 2.3.4 with root permissions.
Have not touched any of my apps in /system/apps folder.

Well thanks for the explanation! I didn't erase anything from /system/app, just uninstall some pre-installed things (only the few that appeared in the uninstall panel), so tomorrow I will try with OTA and see what happens, elsewise I will made a backup with Titanium and reflash the 2.3.2...

And I guess that's the trick, not to touch the /system/apps. I changed some system apps (maps, facebook, etc) and also the framework files to install other themes. I couldn't make the update OTA.
So let me get this straight if you mess with any apps in the /system/apps folder the update won't show up at all or will it just fail? I have generic trade german and it says my phone is already up to date when I check for OTA updates.

Would somebody be so kind and try to keep the update.zip for those of us who have problems getting back to stock?
ICS is now released and my Springboard is downloading the update!
Here is the ZIP file update for anyone that want to grab it to extract and play...
http://www.gamefront.com/files/22180781/Springboard-ics-update.zip
Update:
OTA failed for me right away. I got the update to manually install with the following steps:
1) Created a folder on root of my SDcard, dload
2) Copied the update ZIP file above into dload and renamed it to update.zip
3) Created a zero length file unlmt.cfg in the dload folder
Rebooted with normal VOL+ key held down to start a SD install.
Note: After upgrade completed the Launcher would not start and kept repeating "Unfortunately Launcher has stopped".
To fix, click Ok and quickly bring up the Statusbar menu by swiping it at the bottom of the screen and click on the clock/date, next enter Settings->Apps->All->Launcher, then clear data.
Looks like a full update So everyone who flashed the Springboard to MediaPad could go back now, if wanted.
Best feature in this update for me is, the startup T-mobile sound is about 1/4 the old volume!
:fingers-crossed:
Does this T-mobile ICS seem to support the phone function?

I'm downloading it now. I think I might try to flash just the radio files and see if that improves things for me. I'm otherwise satisfied with the international ICS firmware.

/cust/tmobile/us/media/animationsounds/bootSound.ogg

Have you actually got this root method to work for the non-Mediapad Springboard with the T-Mobile firmware? I run Linux and so the command script in this package will not exactly execute on my machine. I tried manually sequentially entering the adb commands contained in the command script, and got stuck at a 'permission denied' error within the first several commands. If this does work for the Springboard, and not just the Mediapad, then there might be something about the embedded windows drivers and software for the device that allows it to work...because I sure can't get it to fly on Ubuntu.

I actually used the below method to install root again on ICS. I believe there is a fastboot for Linux if you cannot find a DOS/Windows machine.
Only issue I was my Springboard was recovery booting off of "recovery2" partition so I needed to flashboot that partition to get CWM recovery to boot. Since the Official Springboard ICS zip package contains the stock recovery.img file you really can flash both recovery/recovery2 partitions and revert back later if needed.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1850367
And to clarify, for booting into Fastboot, you hold the power button and the VOL closest to it down at the same time.
To boot recovery/CWM hold the power button and VOL key furthur away from the power button (its VOL Up) for some reason.
Also, don't try to use the Touch recovery (TWM) package, it froze up on me when trying to run the root zip installer, but luckily reverting to the basic CWM recovery, I was able to re-install and fix my boot looping.
Why wont the device update to .18? I downloaded the firmware from their site and get error 22 every time I try to update my device. This is bullcrap, first I couldn't OTA now I can't even manually update.
Says this exactly:
The system update failed. (22)
The application is not compatible with the device ROM.
The system is restored to previous configuration.

OK guys, I got it sorted - at least for the US version. The b$£@%ds still haven't got the correct downloads on all of the ftp sites!!! Only the smaller one (319,948KB extracted) from the Global site (that's the one you don't use the akmai downloader) will work.
Looks like they realised this yesterday, pulled the wrong files but some drongo uploaded the wrong ones again!
Hope this helps at least some of you to get updated.
Thanks Asus for wasting all my time.
EDIT: Be careful guys. In all the excitement I didn't realise I have lost root. Voodoo Rootkeeper backup folders seem to have been wiped . Pretty sure I did everything right but it's all been wiped :crying:.

Hey,
I've tried multiple times to update to V8.2.5.0 via OTA. Download goes fine and installation seem to be fine also, but after rebooting it says "update failed, please download full ROM".
Same thing happened in the previous OTA update but when I pressed "update again" on the pop-up fail notification it switched to a larger ROM download. This time, however, it doesn't.
Can I force it to download the ROM via OTA? If not, is there an official ROM file somewhere that I can download and install manually?
Thanks.
