[Q] PIN without factory reset - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all, I bought an i9100 on ebay, but there is a pin on it, I know you can remove it by factory resetting, but I have no idea if it is using ICS and I don't want to brick it, is there any way to either find out what its running, or to remove the PIN in another way? I tried looking at it through kies to see if it was using GB or ICS but keis just asks for the PIN to be entered

Get the seller to tell you or youll send it back for a refund.

Why not flash speedmod kernel which doesn't have hard brick bug and then factory reset
~Sent from my Galaxy S2

factory resetting !
factory reset !! wil not brick your phone !!!if you have a original firmwere !
TRY ODIN ! Put a original s2 rom on it !
Don't be afraid !
OR
Use siyah kernel ! Very good !

If the ROM is 4.0.4, It might brick, but he can simply flash a new kernel and then wipe Or flash another ROM

Hi guys, thanks for your help, just to update what I did in the end, I flashed speedmod-kernel-s2-k2-21-Odin.tar using odin, which left me with a hung phone, then I flashed Siyah-s2-v4.1.5.tar, which made it work again, did a wipe/factory reset and it didn't brick my phone, then it asked me if i wanted to fix root which I said yes to and all is good, PIN lock gone and am using the phone, turned out it had 4.0.3 on it, anyway thanks again everybody

FYI,
SpeedMod K2 is for Gingerbread. (2.3.x)
SpeedMod K3 is for ICS. (4.0.x)
Which is why flashing K2-21 hung your phone.

Hi all, I've got a follow up question, after doing the above, my jig wasn't working on it so I had to install an older bootstrap, then I downloaded and installed the original vodaphone kernel that would have been on there before I changed it, but I still have root, my question is if I sell the phone will the next person be able to update it using Kies, Kies does show that an update is available and does start downloading it, but I cancelled it, is it safe or will it brick the phone? also I was thinking about debranding the phone, would that just involve flashing an official unbranded package such as I9100XWLP7_I9100XEULP5 or is there more to it than that? and if I did would Kies then work on that and update with the unbranded updates in future rather then vodaphone updates?

I recommend to flash a stock/official ROM to your phone.
Then root will be lost.
You can download Official ROMs from SamMobile, but you will need to register before.
Or you can have a look into Intratech's Offical Firmware thread here => http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
Please read his first post carefully.
Then decide which ROM to flash.
As you want to bring it back to "normal", you should use a ROM from the second post "Official Firmwares".
Just flash the ROM using Odin - like described by Intratech.
Nothing special.
Maybe you want to wipe everything to go back to factory settings.
Then you should do a hard reset after flashing by dialing *2767*3855# into your phone's dial pad.
But you can alternatively do a factory reset in recovery mode - also after flashing the stock ROM.
Good luck !
Hey mate thanks for the reply, i backed up my original rom using rom manager flashed back to it....but i still have root and i want to remove it. Can i just flash the insecure kernel and using super one click do the job???/.....NOTE I HAVE clock work mod recovery flashed already........

Cannot unlock SGS2 after flashing ROM

Hey guys,
I am using an Australian Vodafone Samsung Galaxy S2 I9100GT. I just flashed my phone from Gingerbread 2.3.3 to ICS LP7 ("GT-I9100_XTC_I9100DXLP7_I9100OLBLP7_I9100DXLP7"). The flash went well but on booting up the phone, it will not unlock!! It comes up with a pattern code (which I wasn't using previously) and I can't do anything about it.
On a side note I still have Android Recovery System v3e. I remember every time I used to try to upgrade using this recovery system, I would receive error messages with no clear solutions on the forums.
I want to get to PureICS but cannot figure out how to do so.
I would greatly appreciate any advice.
Thanks,
Jack.
Have you tried factory resetting from recovery?

Help! SGS2 will not power on, charge, or do anything

I got a brand new BELL SGS2HDLTE yesterday model SGH757 and flashed CWM, everything was ok. This morning I decided I wanted to flash a samsung based ICS rom specifically this on here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1569686). I booted into CWM Recovery, wipe/factory reset wiped cache and dalvik cache and installed the ROM. The setup show up and eventually said complete please reboot. I pressed reboot and the phone turned off and refuses to turn on anymore. The battery was at 44% when I was flashing, even if I plug the phone in via usb nothing happens. I've tried taking out the battery for a few second and putting it back in but nothing happens. I can't boot into CWM or DL mode either, its as if the phone is completely dead... Can someone tell me whats going on here??? I never had an issue like this on my old SGS.. Thanks in advance!
I'm guessing the infamous brick bug is responsible.
What was your configuration before flashing the new ROM?
What ROM and kernel?

I'm sorry bro but you might have suffered from the infamous super brick bug and your inability to read.
Solution:
Package the phone and send it to Samsung repair center
Swyped from Samsung Galaxy SII

No offense to the two responders above me, but you can ignore them.
The problem is that you attempted to flash a firmware not meant for your phone.
You yourself said you have an SGH-I757. Well, that ICS ROM you linked that you tried to flash is for the GT-i9100. The two models have different hardware, so firmwares, kernels, and ROMs are NOT compatible between them.
This probably screwed up the bootloader. Your only course of action at this point will probably be either JTag repair, or sending it to Samsung for repair.

Thanks for not being a douche bag in your response, much appreciated. Thanks for the info BTW, I just got myself a new one and I'll be more careful now. My biggest annoyance with native ICS on this phone is one is looks like gingerbread and two it comes with a tonne of bloatware that you can't remove without rooting ect. At this point should I flash CWM again since it installed successfully last time, root, and use that as a method to remove the unwanted bloatware. I'm so hesitant to flash this phone now, it seems it was much ease on my SGS1.

Just make sure you stick to flashing things meant for your model. Those things compatible with your device will be clearly labeled with the model number.
Problem is the SGH-i757 doesn't have its own forum, so stuff for it gets posted in here.

Yup, I've found a few but I also have a few questions maybe you can help me with. According to this thread ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1756242) only stock ICS v 4.0.4 is effected by this superbrick. The SGS2 I hardbricked earlier today was updated to this version via keys to 4.0.4 before installing the custom ROM. So provided I stick to ROMS such as lets say the one here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1740188) and avoid upgrading to 4.0.4 I should be able to CWM + Flash + Root correct? I should also be able to do the standard factory reset / wipe cache / wipe dalvik? I also used the eMMC Brickbug Check app in the first post I liked under how to AVOID the superbrick and it came up saying my chip was sane. Thanks in advance and also I pressed the thank you button

The brick bug may not affect you at all. The most common Galaxy S2 affected is the i9100, which we have established is NOT your device. And you already used the app that said your chip is "sane", so it's confirmed you don't have to worry about it.
Again, you bricked the device by flashing a ROM meant for a different device. Had nothing to do with the brick bug.

Thanks, I wasn't aware flashing a rom not meant for your device can cause a hard brick to the point where you cant turn anything on and no buttons are responsive ect. Thanks for the help.

[Q] Downgrading from Jelly Bean to ICS

Hello,
I'm planning to downgrade my S2 from Jelly Bean 4.1.2 to ICS 4.0.4 or 4.0.3 after suffering from restart issue. Before I downgrade I want to know about the eMMC/ Brick issue of Android 4.0.4. Please anybody can help me out what steps to follow to secure my phone rather turning it into brick?? or for even secure side I should get back to ginger bread??
Thanks
.............or 4.0.3.
Don't worry. You can downgrade safely but later if you want to flash another firmware and where factory reseting the phone is required, don't factory reset it when using the stock 4.0.4 kernel because you will hard brick the phone.Use a custom kernel instead like siyah.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
Well as i have read you shouldn't dowgrade to 4.0.4. I read about it here
Although it says here that you SHOULDN'T flash 4.0.4 many members/senior/contributers have said that you can do it safely but that you shouldn't wipe recovery. although my paranoia gets the best of me so i flash 4.0.3
I was in the same situation, and i flashed 4.0.3. All works great but when i get enough comments that say i can flash 4.0.4 safely, ill do it.
If you flash 4.0.4 please do consider to tell me Unless you wnat 4.0.3 instead..all up to you.
I have never used Odin.
I have never flashed any Rom on my Galaxy S2 i9100 using anything else other than OTA or Samsung Kies.
Yesterday I got an OTA update for the Trinidad & Tobago JellyBean firmware.
So I flashed it by just hitting "Update Now" on the phone.
Everything went well. I got no issues at all with the Update. Everything works and works well.
However for general knowledge sakes, if I were to downgrade using Odin and the previous 4.0.3 firmware, would I need the PIT file as well? I only ask this despite reading everywhere that PIT and repartition should NOT be checked or used. However I heard Jelly Bean update does indeed repartition space on the Galaxy S2. Please enlighten me guys.

Strange thing about that warning with factory reset and using stock ICS 4.0.4 with stock kernel, i did factory reset on my SGS2 with stock ICS, and stock kernel (i had some problems with freezing at enabled wireless, so wanted to try factory reset), but i used factory reset directly on phone, not with some tools like CWM recovery, busybox, etc. , and fortunately didn't brick my SGS2 ICS 4.0.4, but i'll not do that again, until i move to JB, i totally forgot about that thing...
So, was this danger, could i brick my SGS2 ICS 4.0.4 stock with this factory reset, and why it's not bricked, if there is warning for this? Or maybe factory reset and bricking is related with using some other tool for factory reset and wipe memory?
get got brick bug from play store.
Should show "sane chip".

Yes gasto, i know it, i used that app, and my phone is with brick bug, but even that, i did factory reset directly from settings on phone, and didn't brick my phone with ICS 4.0.4 and stock kernel, phone was rooted with this method,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1501719
You didn't wipe in recovery, wise.
Sent from the little guy
Right that , that's main point, to no wipe memory in recovery , tnx for confirming this issue!
Dont do wipe data/factory reset from recovery after you flash 4.0.4.
Do it from the phone settings.

[Q] SGS 3 Downgrade problem

Hi there! I have an gs3 4.3, rooted with a custom rom on it, when I flashed this rom I lost the original backup of the phone. So now I'm stuck with this rom on 4.3 and I would like to go back to 4.1.2 stock rom, cuz my phone works like s*it since I updated it to 4.3. I heard that if I downgrade I can risk to brick the phone. My GS3 is International, RO Orange. Any advices ?

Here is the firmware for Romania Orange http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/3/?download=17122,download ODIN v3.09 and in the AP/PDA put the file that you download, connect your phone to PC and go to download mode(Power+vol down+home),in odin DON'T tick Re-Partition option, then just press START.
This will WIPE all your data, including INTERNAL STORAGE,better make a backup of photos, music and all personal stuff.
PS : All you need to know about flashing with ODIN,in case you don't undestand what I wrote above ,Multa bafta !!
