I have always wondered if improved anything but it seems the same speeds and battery. Is this actually working at all?

I think it forces the gpu to do all the rendering and takes some of the load off of the cpu. It can make a lot of apps quicker and your home screen transitions are generally smoother, that i have noticed. but i would think that if any of the apps you use don't support hardware acceleration it will cause them to glitch.
i dont know to much, but after i was having some issues and using this seemed to fix them i looked around to see what it actaully does. i can see it more used for developers so they can force the GPU when testing apps and settings.
I have not had problem with any app using gpu
What matters here is if user is able to tell the difference. I've never noticed difference. Probably is only related to developers when they test their apps.
Forced GPU tends to keep the CPU at lower frequences and thus save power while reacting qicker.
However it gobs up an additional MB or so per App, which causes unused apps to be removed even quicker from the cache - if you are one of the people complaining about multitasking you should turn it off.

just discovered this app (was preinstalled w/ Aloysius V11) and it seems to make a huge difference in speed.
I used the aggressive preset and immediately saw a huge inscrease in page loading, changing between apps etc.
anyone else mess around with this and anything to be cautious of?
There have been dozens of arguments whether a task killer is beneficial or not. For everyone that says that it ruins their phones, there is someone like you that loves it. If it works for you, awesome! It really depends on the phone and the rom you are using. Many others of have tried this and had results ranging from the best thing since sliced bread to this drains my phone like a vampire. Doesn't hurt to try it, so have at it. If it doesn't work, then uninstall it and be happy, if it does, then keep it and be the same. This might or might not make sense, depending on how much I (or you) have already drank this evening. heh...
Autokiller = pulling ram data into cpu = more cpu usage = less battery = less cpu downtime
But hey if you like it go for it. I think you should stick to agressive. You always want the least setting possible while still increasing speed.
The only suggestion that I can make is some programs you may want to exclude from auto kill. Example, if you look at the running programs, one of them is called people. If it is killed, then any custom ringtones you assigned will not function and everyone will have the default ringtone although it shows a ringtone assigned to them. Another example is if you run Live wallpaper, that specific wallpaper has to be excluded from the auto kill list because when auto kill is ran, the live wall paper will shut off.
I could be mistaken, but I was under the assumption that autokiller did not actually kill apps, but that it only modified the way that the system manages the free ram. Is this not so?
I have noticed no battery decrease when using it, and have noticed an increase in speed. I have it set to optimum.
Thoughts?
It changes the min settings on android, which is when android decides when to kill an app. This doesn't mean that it won't pull it into the cpu, which will use battery. It's better than a regular task manager though.
I'm running stock 2.1 with JIT v2 enabled and SetCPU, but i've noticed an increase in Lag lately.
Is there a minimum of free space recommended for Android to run better? I've checked a few similar threads across xda and others but i couldn't find much useful information. My main memory currently has 100 MB and the sdcard 1,14 GB of free space.
Or maybe it's a cache issue? Never cleaned cache files before, can they actually cause lag? Hopefully is not the first signs of an incoming hardware fault.
Try using CacheMate and see...

Laggy after JIT enabled?
Normaly, the phone will just lag for the first 30s-1 min after the booting.
After that, the phone would work like a charm.
Also, remember to maintain enough ram for you phone, kill unneccessery apps.
Also, check you SetCPU settings,I used the performance and set to highest frequency(not to worried the battery,my phone usually drops 2-3% for one light)
If problem continues, just reflash and problem should be solved.
cheers,
L
I have no idea what happened, phone was very slow for the last couple of days, but out of nowhere it simply got back to it's normal behaviour.
Since JIT my x10 has been working very smoothly, hence my surprise when things started stuttering like crazy, the only thing that made it lag like that was a beta for Fennec/Firefox i've tested, but that app was already uninstalled when the problem started.
My noob knowledge of the Android OS led to a conclusion that some app in the background was misbehaving and the system itself shut it down eventually. Does it make sense? Watchdog's last alert accused Pulse News, but nothing looked out of the ordinary.
It started again yesterday, this time i've got random boots as well. Uninstalled a bunch of apps and the difference in performance was instantly noticeable. I've removed Beautiful Widgets and Lookout, but the former is more likely to be the naughty app.
too bad i've payed for that crap.
I think moderator should pin this at the top of the board.
I fixed a lot of stability/flickering issue on my Prime by disabling "Force GPU Rendering". By default, it's set to OFF, but you knows users like us wants to try everything and since this feature looks cool and make us think it will boost performance in some applications it's tempting to enable it.
I didn't realised until this morning it was the cause of many bugs I had. Once I disabled it and rebooted my Prime I re-run a couple of apps that would crash and they do not crash anymore.
I wanted to share this with you. And this will save you a lot of trouble.
IMO, Google should either disable this or put a BIG WARNING sign on it.
Oh really? Thanks for sharing. Let me try.
Well actually there is a pretty big warning sign when you enter the development settings that performance can be reduced if changing those settings
Slowing down is not the same thing as making unstable. GPU rendering makes the OS (at least some applications) unstable.
ROFL well it is under the Developer Options section which gives you a pop up warning that should make that obvious.
I am tempted to turn it on to see how well it works in practice, but only a few apps are sluggish enough that I'd consider it for more than curiosity.

I'm experiencing sudden freezing of Walkman app on my LWW (running stock ICS 4.0.4), and it sounds to me like some background process/application is hogging the CPU, causing Walkman to sound like a scratched cd. It does not happen often, but when it happens, it's really annoying. I never had those kind of problems before, when i used Winamp (back on Gingerbread).
Does anyone know some 'quick fix', or maybe a way to change thread priority to 'high' (if such thing exists on android ? - i'm still fairly noobish on that matter) for a Walkman app ?
Thanks
Wrong section man...
That's because you have many running background apps. Check your running apps, n close the unused user app.

FYI Android is based on Linux.
Something is running in background, go check it from Settings-Apps-Running. It will show you what is running at the moment. You can also close some of these.
Yeah, i know Android is based on Linux, i'm just not considering myself as advanced Linux user.
There aren't many backround processes running, i'm using task killer. I also removed most of bloatware. I haven't noticed any application behaving in simmilar manners. None of the games lag or suddenly freeze like this application does, and i'm sure they are much more demanding on CPU/GPU and RAM.
I'm suspecting memory leakage...
Get rid of the taskkiller.
If an app starts, it needs more resources, so more memory and CPU.
Android is built to kill apps itself when it needs memory.
are you using a powersave or some other lower freq governor in lockscreen?
that has a tendency to break up the music when governor has a slow scaling.

It's not an auto app-killer, it kills app only when i want them to.

Nope, nothing of that sort.

try a different codec, like mp3,wav,aac whatever.. maybe the songs you have have a broken codec.. this is a very long shot though

first,
app killer is nonsense,
why?
mostly no android apps are actually larger than the ram itself, so multiple apps may be cached in the ram. so it actually helps in loading the app faster from the ram than from the flash memory.
so an app killer is utterly useless since you will just be starting the thing from flash instead of using the cached one thus using more cpu and in turn will also take more time to load.
thus each time you kill something, it's service will try to restart it, using more cpu than your actual intention which was to save it.
Yeah, i guess you're right about the app killer.
I just compaired stock media player CPU usage vs. Winamp, and it does not look good ~35-40% vs. ~8-15%
I think something is broken in Walkman app :S Can anyone check out and tell me how much does your Walkman app uses CPU %?
have you a other Music app installed ?
yeah, like i said, i have winamp installed, which uses much less cpu than the stock player, and never had those kind of issues before.
try clearing data and cache of walkman app.
Didn't help. Cpu usage is still too high. Even tried turning equalizer off.
OK I have a milestone x2 on eclipse 2.2.1 that has started to lag alot lately RANDOMLY. It's mostly when I wake the phone it's like a complete crawl can hardly do anything an if a app does open it force closes. Something times it will get so bad until it reboots. Is there anything to look for? I clean the cache daily an it just started this bad lag
If if it is just unbearable, sbf. Then take it and run.
And btw- who????? MIKE JONES!!!!!!
Couple of things.
1, You might be overclocked too much which can cause instability or have the wrong governor choice or CPU speed settings.
2. You might be low on memory or have too many apps or active widgets, or a mis-behaving app. Try removing a few things.
cant overclock x2.. and how do i find out if i have misbehaving apps? i only have one screen with widgets. and memory sometimes is in the 80mb range is that too bad?? and how would i help with that problem?
Have you tried running the v6 supercharger or the mashup? And about the apps, what did you install right before this started happening?
Edit: also check your RAM status... go to settings --> applications --> running services and it will tell you at the bottom how much is used and how much is free.
