Hi, I have the Galaxy Note i717 and had to replace my charging port as it had stopped charging reliably. I bought one of the many on ebay for around 8 bucks. I proceeded to put it in when I received it but to my dismay I no longer could get service at all, just wifi. So just to verify it was nothing I broke I put the old pcb back in and service returned. At that time I believed it was just a defective unit, so second try at it same thing no service old one works fine. Is this a problem anyone has ran into before? Any help I would appreciate.

It is quite possible that either your new port is the wrong part, or is damaged.
The port wiring is different between models ...I.E. SGH-I717, N7000, and other note models.
Even the charge cables are different part numbers between models, but visually look identical.
It just sounds like the port wiring is different to me ..
I suggest getting the port directly from samsung...even though it will cost a bit more.
At least then you have a fall back if the port won't function.
Or perhaps have the port repaired by Samsung directly ....
I'm sorry I can't offer more help .g

Well both pcb boards that they sent me have the same markings as the one I removed. They also say on them SGH_I717_SUB_REV1.0_1107
So I do believe it to be the correct part. Just to clarify the new boards do charge the phone just cellular service stops. Maybe by some crazy luck I got two faulty boards. I wasn't sure they were going to send me a replacement so I ordered from another company as well so I guess I will have to see if that one works,
Interesting ....
The part seems okay ...
And the odds of two bad ports in a row is remote at best ....
Some time ago I saw a thread about an extra wire that traveled down from the antenna to the charging port....
And users were reporting that this very small wire was being damaged or missed when the port was serviced.
I've never seen this wire or connection ......but I figured I'd bring it up ..
Try a general search on the topic ...and see if it yields a result.....
I just remember it being a big deal ....g
Just wanted to update the post in case this happens to anyone else. After getting the free replacement for the first part I believed to be defective I also ordered from another company as it took more than a month for my replacement, so I believed them to had stood me up. Well the one from the other company arrived today, and worked. Maybe the others were for different networks or something. I don't know if that is possible Rogers vs ATT frequencies and what not but it worked and all is well.

I am having issues as well...
My phone has a Rev1.0_1107 part, and I cannot charge unless I play with the cable, so i decided to replace this port.
1st was from China (ebay) and received no signal, only wifi. Rev1.0_1107
2nd was a replacement from the same company, same issue. Rev1.0_1107
3rd was from a place in CA (ebay) and is Rev2.0_1206 and same issues.
I can put my original part in there, and I get signal just fine... anybody have any ideas on this matter? It's frustrating to have to keep battery swapping and would like to get this fixed.

Noted... thanks. I have searched them out and they only appear to have the cable for the N7000. Can anyone else recommend a place to buy these from?
Just noticed that when it's near my window, I get 1 bar of service... So it's like my signal strength is uber weak. I have a microcell in my home, and it is functioning properly (other ATT phones are connecting just fine) and works again as soon I put the original cable back.
Hi,I have a samsung Note N7000.
I'm have a similar issue, start with high power charging issue every 5seconds.I bought a replacement from ebay company in New Jerse it fixed that problem.but it created a problem when I make a call the other end can not hear me.I email the company and they sent #2 replacement.after
the charging port board was installed now I dont have any signal for service.the pcb# N7000/i9220_sub_Rev1.0.
I'm going try different company.what should I be looking for?I'm wasting too much time on this.

Sorry to bring up an old thread but I wanted to bring this to others attention. What Gregsarg said about a white wire running down from the antenna is correct, or at least it is on an i717. It runs down from the right hand side of the board, behind where the flex board connects and onto the little round connector on the flex board, it's probably that that's been missed off of some phones as would be noticed by only getting 1 bar of signal! I've also noticed that the UK version of the note only has 4 brass connectors on the flex board 2 for the antenna and 2 for the speaker whereas the i717 has 5, 3 for the antenna and 2 for the speaker. I'm not sure what the difference is between a white or black i717 to be honest, i'd have thought it would only be the outer casing that had changed, I can't see them changing parts too, that just sounds stupid!
Anyway, the reason I'm posting is not just because of the above, it's because i'm in the middle of fixing an i717 for someone and was searching to see if a N7000 part would fit and although it looks as though it would I'm not willing to test that theory! I will say though that the missing brass connector is also connected to brass connector 2 on the Ariel/speaker module but on the flex board that connector also has a resistor above it which would likely cause an issue!
The part that i'm ordering is from a company in the UK but is a Rev 2.0 board and not the rev 1.0 that is in it already so i'm hoping that's not an issue else i'm gonna have to buy from China which is cheaper but will likely take an age to get here and the customer wants it done ASAP so what they want they get! I will update this thread once i've fitted the part and got it running along with a link to where I got it from.

When getting the part, Revision usually does matter. Also the serial number under the revision number (Usually starting with DRC or DRG) can also matter. Getting the identical one is usually the best bet (albeit not the easiest considering people on ebay use stock images and don't show you the ACTUAL part you're getting.)

I got the new part this morning, it was a REV 2.0 board and after putting it all back together including the white/grey ariel wire I can report that it's working perfectly, as good a signal as it had before and is now charging properly. The link to the UK based seller is here for anyone interested that needs a replacement in the UK - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/300819833823?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649 The part is £19.99 with no P&P and arrived in 1 day. Just in case the link doesn't work then the name of the supplier is gravedigga1.
EDIT:- I heard back from my customer today who has reported having problems with wifi, signal and loudspeaker! Therefore the Rev 2.0 part won't act as a decent replacement for the Rev 1.0 unfortunately. I wasn't able to fully test as the customer didn't leave his sim card in and he uses 1 of those weird networks which I don't have a sim for. I have managed to source another UK supplier on ebay for an even cheaper price of £12 and they verified that it is a Rev 1.0 board they have in stock and have put 1 aside for me. Once I know that one works for definite i'll report back again just to update the thread but this time the customer is bringing the phone when the new part is here so it can be tested fully before it goes back to him!
I just find it strange that even though the Rev 2.0 is exactly the same in every way as the Rev 1.0 board that it has these issues although i've not heard of the loudspeaker problem before so I think there's a fault with it anyway.
Yeah these notes are getting really dodgy in their old age. We've decided to basically not fix abutting except the screens anymore because getting the right parts is a nightmare.

This may be a little off key here and if I'm in the wrong thread I apologize but...
I have the i717, bought the charging port off of eBay and replaced it. After plugging in the phone the touch keys at the bottom lit up like I was in business. After allowing the phone to "charge" for about 2 hours, the touch keys were the only thing to work and light up on the phone. I could press the lock key on the side and the touch keys would come off and on like it was on the lock screen but the screen was black. Has anyone encountered this before? If so, please help!
Thank you
Btw, it seemed like the phone was charged/charging bc those touch keys were on...

Hello ,
My name is Russ and I have a Samsung Galaxy Note SGH-i717 ( AT&T ) which I love . About two months ago the charge port quit working , so I ordered one from Ebay ( Flex cable , Mic/USB board ) , installed it and my signal was weak after installing it so I reinstalled the original board and it went back to full power . I thought it was a bad board , so they sent me another , I installed board #2 and the speaker on the back had no sound , put my board back in and the speaker went back working . So I had the supplier send me another board #3 . I got it installed , and the Mic wouldn't pick up , I put my board back in everything goes back to normal . So I thought it might be the supplier , so I tried a different supplier , same thing . In total I have tried three different suppliers and I lost count on how many boards I have installed .. Every time I can reinstall the original board and it will stop whatever it's doing wrong . My board Number is SGH_I717_SUB_REV1.0_1107 , DRBL12IN BF , 69 . I am at a lost , I don't know if there's something I'm doing wrong . Thank You for your time ib6469 ( Russ )

Hi.
The mic on my phone has stopped working so no one can here me now during a phone call. I've tried a factory reset and re-installing my current rom checkrom v6. Still the problem is there.
It seems to me to be a hardware problem. My niece dropped my phone onto a dinner plate and got tomato sauce on it. Not a lot but some of it got into the speaker and micro usb port. I cleaned it immediately but looks like it's caused some damage.
Can anyone offer me a solution to this problem.
I'm thinking I'll need to replace the mic on the phone. Can anyone link me to a guide on how to do this? I'll probably replace the usb port as I've had issues with that for ages now.
Thanks
If you are not a person who is able to fix phones and such then I'd advise you to simply send the phone back to your carrier and tell them to fix it. (if you've still got your warranty)
Unlucky :/ Maybe next time don't let your niece near the phone within a 5 mile radius?
Have a good day and good luck with the phone :]

I'm on pay as you go and I bought the phone second hand about 7 month ago so sending it back not really an option.
Just to update, when I turn on the speaker function when in call the mic works fine.

I believe the part for the USB port will have the lower mic attached anyways. I think you're looking for part number GH59-10949A. You can find service manuals for various Samsung phones on www.samfirmware.com. But you'll need to register on that site (it's free) to download them. Passwords on the archive files are "samfirmware.com".

That's because the speakerphone function uses the top mic, not the bottom mic.

Glad you got it worked out.
If you're interested, to help with protecting my USB port, I ordered some of these. They come 3 covers per order.
(I am in no way affiliated with this company...)
I decided it was prudent after reading all the horror stories on the forums about USB ports failing/overvoltage warnings/computers not detecting/chargers not registering.
Hi ,
My galaxy S2 is have a problem .... whenever i connect it to a power out / computer the power supply starts fluctuating because of which i cannot use my usb port on my phone to charge so i take out the batter and charge it with an external charger.
Is there any way i can root my phone without connecting it to my computer ?
And one more thing is there anyway i can get my USB port to work ?
I bought this phone when i was in USA but after i shifted back to India this problem started occurring.
The service center people cannot repair or replace it as its the USA version and not the International version. Some parts of International version are not compatible with this US version according to the service center guys. They also said that its IC is short circuited but i think when IC is short circuited the phone does not give display but its working all fine.
Please help me with these 2 things -
1.Rooting my phone without connecting to PC
2.Getting my phones USB port back to work
I'm guessing your USB port has a problem check out this thread
in my case the phones not charging.....
The phone reboots when the charger is connected
The answer to your question is no. Unless I've completely overlooked something.
You will need a good usb port to be able to root the phone. There have been a couple of people who have reported that they successfully replaced their own usb port, and say it is relatively simple to do. It may take a while to get a replacement port, but since the part is small, shipping to India should not be prohibitive. Replacing your own usb port seems to be the only practical fix for your problem.

where can i find a working USB port ?
Google it. Not being rude but damn...
If you have a question about when the next CD by your favorite artist comes out, you google it right? When you need to know where to find which site has the best price on that CD you google it, right?
Use that same logic here. You need a part, google it.
Also, eBay has been known to have items people want to sell that anyone can bid on. Knowing you need it shipped overseas, it would be good to make sure the seller will ship it to your location before buying it.
(Searching these forums will present you with the answer as to which part you need to look for)

hello to comunity,
i have the samsung galaxy s 2 gt-u9100 mobile phone and everything was perfect untill i opened the phone, the phone has problem at the back housing so i ordered a new one and replaced it, i made everything with caution and slowly. while i changed the back housing i opened the phone and everything was good untill i saw that there was no signal. i did it 2g and i see that there is onlu on raw ar the signal and sometimes none.
i opened the phone again and checked everything but saw nothing wrong. as i searched i saw that the GSM is this part and the cable that connects the antenna is this one . both of them are perfect.
i lost all my day trying with that , at start i had SlimRom 2 then i put the stock one via Odin but it didnt boot, stocked in the boot image (didnt wanted to search why ) so i flashed kernel again and then NeatRom, still no signal and then i went back to SlimRom. but the problem as i saw is not from the rom .
if anyone knows about that thing and tell me what to do i would be gladfull .
That bit is the antenna c/w speaker. There is a thread related to this about usb replacement.People mention about similar problems when they remove the antenna cable.
Heres a pic of spares I have, and look at the gold contacts on the antenna,as they need to be in good contact with the ones on the usb board.Maybe its that,or maybe new antenna is faulty.Try your old one in to eliminate that though. It could even be the antenna cable.
The thread is by someone whos name is Dugud,or similar

thanks a lot for your reply my friend, my problem is not with the usb think i thing, it must be with the cable or i dunno. i had verry good signal and everything was working, now just the signal got verry low.
exept from buying repair part you say there is no fix right?

maybe take it to a shop with someone who knows what they are doing. I just had to do this with mine, I considered trying to get parts cheap and diy then I considered how much time and stress it could cause me = not worth it. It cost me £25 to have usb replaced, second thing I checked was the signal as I see many having problems with this - outcome is my phone is working sweet again and it only took a couple of hours of my time :cyclops:
Best of luck
Did you read that thread?.I seen a post on here once where someone said they removed that white antenna cable, then refitted it,and lost signal. Then they bought a new cable, which solved the problem.
Also, you dont know the condition of the part you changed, and theoretically you are meant to use anti static wristband and mat when your touching sensitive electronic components......lol

I just did it last week with no problems on one of our Notes to prepare for sale. Make sure you peel the sticker off the new part to expose adhesive, and be very careful aligning the big connector. Also make sure you get the wire antenna plugged back in all the way. I'd saythe problem is your install but if you can reinstall the original and get back to 1st problem it is weird, obviously at least installing that factory part is going normally.
I used ifixit.com guide to point me in the right direction but it was easy, maybe 15 minutes of work, even being really careful.
I used this part from ebay. With a new battery the old beast is doing great, going on ebay soon.
Good luck!
Thank you
Thank you Delawaredrew,
I saved your supplier , and I will order one from them . THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP , ib6469.

You're welcome!
I read a bunch of reviews of various charging boards when I bought one and many people mentioned peeling the sticker off as a must for proper reception. The wire antenna was a little tricky to reattach, it felt like it was on but looked a little askew; a slight bit more force definitely clicked it in farther. I actually haven't had a SIM in it to verify cell reception but wifi is fine.
Let us know how it goes.
Charge Board Solved
[ To Everyone ,
Thank you for all your help , I finally got it . These boards are different , MATCH THE NUMBERS . My was a DRBL12IN , I tried one and it didn't fix the problem , but I think it was a bad board . I bought one from kingtime2009 on Ebay , It's fixed .All is good . Be sure you match your boards numbers before you order , and you may get a bad board but you can fix it . I've worked on my phone for a month and finally got it fixed . I plan on ordering another board in from the same supplier , just to have if I need it . Once again THANK YOU EVERYONE . If you need any help with your phone please let me know .

I was about to buy a new phone. Now I know the problem is related to the power connector repair. Problem is I throw away my broken power connector and did not record the part number.

You are correct, there are different revisions on some Samsung charge flex replacements however, usually only 2. Your quickest way to tell, other than the actual revision print on the flex, would be that the interconnect doesn't seem to properly fit or appear as a "loose fit" (or vice versa). As for the adhesive on the bottom, hogwash on affecting the signal. You can have it or not, no difference. It is simply what it is...adhesive. Any signal problems would be caused by the antenna connector not properly seated. Your only other possible causes, if your board revision is correct, would be in your actual handling of the flex during installation. Glad to see people troubleshooting as a group. Feel free to pm me if you have further issues and I will happily try to guide you back to working.
Cheers

Install a custom Rom or MIUI10 latest beta build. If problem persists then problem is hardware related.
Been facing the same issue, @drchau did you find a fix for it ?
It is a hardware problem.. seems like it is somewhat common. I had the same issue last week. Tried several stock and custom os. Then realised it should be a hardware issue. Mine had same behaviour ( reboot to charge ) and then problem with otg not detecting. And usb c cable is recognised in only one way.
So booked a slot for service . Went to service today. Found three customers with same issues , and then the service center replaced my usb sub board and others too. Took one hour total. And everything is fine now.
Total cost is INR 700 for board + INR 350 for service + 19% GST. = 1250 INR.
They won't replace the port. It's a whole sub board . They replace it. You will get it for free if under warranty.
I have this problem with my Mi Max 3. I have to reboot OR for some reason it will charge via an OTG dock without rebooting (odd ... If I plug the same usb c cable in directly it doesn't recognize it.
A couple of times when I unrooted and reverted to stock unrooted, the charging issue went away.
I realize that many here are convinced this is a hardware issue but I also routinely disable/delete a lot of crapware and system apps via ADB .... Can't help thinking there might be a coded dependency issue.
I am in the USA so getting it serviced isn't an option ... I have 3 Xiaomi phones and would love to add a Poco F3 when I can afford to, but these charging issues are being reported with great frequency and I am hopeless at soldering.
If anyone knows of a repair shop in the USA they trust with their Xiaomi products I'd be grateful to know the name.
Thanks!

There's probably a couple mosfets and what not on that PCB. Maybe bad design or a manufacturing defect caused a solder crack or trace failure. Maybe a component.
These boards are usually inexpensive.
A relatively easy fix if so.

It could be (most likely is) a dependency especially if it happened right after the edits.
I prefer to package block rather than edit them out. Mistakes are easily corrected... most times.
Don't attempt soldering anything in these devices unless you know how to, not the place to learn.
Many though aren't soldered in, they're connected with ribbon cables more commonly. See a device tear down to find out.
A good phone repair shop should be able to handle it.

Thanks for your reply.
I'm pretty sure from video teardowns that the parts involved in the MM3 require soldering (there's some kind of board involved with replacing the port)
I still love the Mi Max 3 but it isn't worth a spendy repair because the carriers here are shutting down 3G and HSPA+ soon which only leaves me with FDD LTE 4 (not great where I live).
Repair shops aren't as expert in the states sadly ... most people here buy their devices from carriers.
I needed a camera replaced on my old Max but they didn't want to order parts so I ordered it and did the replacement myself (but only because I didn't have to solder).
If Asurion insurance from Amazon covers global phones I'll get my next Xiaomi insured. Too bad Xiaomi won't just let us ship at our own expense to their service centers in China or Europe.

Many times you replace the whole port PCB. If it's soldered on it could be a pain even with the right tools/experience.
You could try a factory reset to undo the disabled apks to see if that was it.
Thanks, I've tried factory reset and it helps for a little while. For now its still usable ... Rebooting to charge isn't a big deal. I do find it odd though that I can still charge via OTG dock without rebooting.
The bigger issue is what to buy to replace it. I don't trust Miui not to be buggy anymore and I have grown to hate constantly having to disable optimizations that inhibit sms, email and even calls (if I try to use TMO towers... AT&T MVNOs seem unaffected ).
I wouldn't mind doing all those steps once but my permissions don't stick for very long.
The TCL 20 might be worth a look...or maybe Realme if I see one with a bigger screen... I'm wedded to large screen models, mid price at best, with NA LTE band support ...
TCL also has a couple of LTE tablets with decent specs coming out ... but LTE tablets for USA export almost always ship with the dialers disabled so you can't make calls.
I'm trying to out till the end of June. By that time, hopefully the Poco F3 bugs will be resolved. Retailers aren't even shipping it here yet.

After the factory reset you need to find the akp that triggers this. Reviewing the most recent running and/or cache processes can narrow down the list.
Use Package Blocker PD MDM to clear the data in suspect apks. Unlike clearing the data in settings PD MDM leaves no nulls behind. Those silly nulls can mean big trouble.
Since it keeps returning the offending apk may be amenable to being package blocked depending on its function/dependencies.
This is how you find it.
Android Setup is a prime suspect. I cured a similar C-port error message like this by deleting the null marks in its data which showed as zero.
Happy hunting
