In some cases, i've viewed people who had troubles with her GPS signal on Xperia U GB. I've updated mine to ICS with the ST25A FTF, but after test, i don't have any signal, and i had the same trouble for GB. I'm from Belgium and i don't think that's a area problem, but if it's not, what's the problem ? Software, hardware ? Who has the same thing ?
Thank you for your asks.

gps on my sola works perfect in ics.. less, than 10 second to fix position. on gb it take 10 min.. huhu...

Also no problem with my GB U. Actually it's more accurate than my previous O2X and NS.

Sorry and ty, i've not see the Q&A section ! I've read somes posts about Gps signal, how it does work, how can it be weak, and it didn't help me what i do..
It didn't happened to me...
Install this rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1918920, i had this problem with gps when i installed st25a rom on my st25i
I had the same issue with my xperia U.
I rooted my phone, and copied the gps.conf file that I used on my HTC desire S, but still the same issue's.
So I restored the original file, and installed "Leo AGPS Injector".
Don't know if it's actually that app that fixed it, or just coincidence, but when I opened 'GPS Status', I instantly had 12 sat's available, and after 10 seconds, 7 of them were fixed.
Just tried it again: On opening GSP status: 12 sats found. After 24 seconds, fixed to 6 of them. (This is indoor)
Just hope it stays this way. On my Desire S, sometimes the day after I get nothing, and I found out it really depends on the ROM also. (JB roms were the fastest)

Hi,
I have a new S2, already running the latest CM9. I've changed the radio to XXKE7 and got great results in both reception and battery life. However GPS isn't working for me (as far as I can tell with the Waze app).
I really don't want to change the modem. Is there anything I can do to troubleshoot?
Thanks.

Have a look at the AGPS patch thread link in my sig. Worked well for me before GPS was fixed in CM9 recently.
I don't get it. Does the modem/baseband has anything to do with the GPS?
Good question.
Most of what I've read on here/elsewhere suggests GPS is affected by modem. However, I'd love to have confirmation of that/explanation of why it does or doesn't from a dev. I did manage to find a post or two on various Android forums suggesting modem doesn't affect GPS performance as well.
TBH, whenever I've tested modems, my focus has always been on data speeds & signal strength. I've never tested how well (or not) GPS works when I've tested modems.

Just tried it, couldn't get it to work for me.
What do you mean by "GPS was fixed in CM9 recently"? I'm running the 26/03/2012 version, and on GPS Status I see one sat in view, and it's not in use.
Try the Codeworkx build from 31 March on the first page of the CM9 discussion thread. He fixed it in his build (not the nightly) from 30 March (which I'm running), GPS works flawlessly inside & out. Not sure if the fix is included in the official 30 March build on CM website (probably not) but if you run that Codeworkx build from 31st, be prepared to be pleasantly surprised (video recording fixed too).

First of all, edit the thread's title to something more descriptive, like "Problem changing baseband"
Did the NV2 Backup complete successfully? It's the main thing, without that say goodbye to your phone signal.
Weird that 45m timeout, I changed my P500's baseband in less than 10m I think... did you follow drnotor's guide entirely? Including the part of disabling LG modem and not touching the phone until it finishes?

Yes.
Sorry for the bad title
If you have your nv2backup you could try flashing it over once again from step 1, maybe that works.
It worked. I stopped the program and run it again. My Phone is running again. The problem with error searching network on CM9 persists. The Baseband rechange doesn't bring the solution.
Now that you already have NV file if you use lgmdp always in emergency mode dont mather if you flash only bb or recovery or the entire rom but flash with phone already in emergency mode and lgmdp will not touch the nv file

Good tip. Next time I make it from emergency mode.
The stupid thing is that I risk a lot for nothing, cause the baseband didn't bring me something.

I asked few times but nobody answered. I don't see it on Bug-List and so I thought it was the fault of my phone. As said above, you will have the bug as long as you are using the junky Froyo RIL stack. This issue exists on CM7 as well since they've "fixed" the stupid 128KB SIMs by reverting the RIL stack. Messing with baseband will not solve anything for you.
http://code.google.com/p/cyanogenmod/issues/detail?id=5182
Ask your operator to have roaming deactivated, best I can offer if you want CM9+. On CM7, the RIL can be switched back to GB, with CM9 this causes a force-close loop with the phone app -> no go.
Is there a way to check whether I have a Funny SIM Card or not? And in case I have, is it possible to let it change from provider and with which excuse?

Well, flash latest CM7, flash the attached ZIP and if your SIM does not get recognized, it is funny.
Thanks a lot.
I made all the steps and the SIM works. Now I have to hope that CM will revert the RIL to GB too, so that I can use CM9+.

Sure there is, however I am not going to recompile CM9 for this, it requires patching files, overwriting the libs is no longer enough, as said above.
Do you mean mik_os git changes in the above issue link?
Easier would be that CM changes back to GB RIL.

well i have the same phone and this problem was giving me headache when i used the stock ICS too, after installing cyanogenmod though the problem went away, or at least that's what i think , but that would mean voiding your warranty so not a good solution for everyone.
although when i searched about it some people say that taking the phone to a SONY help center solved the problem but that wasn't an option for me
my personal tips for you though is that when you put your phone down make sure to put it face down and use wifi instead of 3g whenever you can and maybe you'd like to limit your phone to using 2g as i found out that helps.
i hope that wasn't confusing or anything
good luck.

Hi there!
I just got a shiny new Xperia U and proceeded to connect to Wi-Fi, only to discover that it will not connect entirely, instead giving me "Limited Conectivity".
Now, I've been searching all over the Internet for the past few days and have found many users with similar problems (and a whole bunch of solutions that didn't work). Basically what's going on is that the DHCP is giving me a 169.254.xx.xx adress instead of a 192.168.xx.xx as it should. This happens on ALL routers. I've managed to get internet at work by using a static IP and setting the DNS manually, but then that same solution didn't work at home (work is WPA, home is WEP, not sure if that's the reason). And in any case, setting up DNS for every Wi-Fi connection is not really a plausible solution (public Wi-Fi spots ain't gonna tell you their DNS).
So, that's as far as I've managed to get. I've downloaded some of those Wi-Fi fixer apps but they don't work. I've been trying everything short of rooting the device (haven't done it yet, never had a Smartphone before and I rather not go too deep unless strictly necesary).
Anyway, that's my problem. If anyone can give me a hand, I'd be most grateful.
And finally tech specs:
Android 4.0.4
Model number: ST25a
Build number: 6.1.1.B.1.10
Thanks in advance!

Ok, and um... how do I do that? The Sony software (PC companion, the one I used to update from 2.3.7) says I'm up to date. I'm going to try the Sony updater, maybe that will download the propper one.
(for reference, baseband version is u8500-49020905-P2H_EC01, I assume this is what you mean the update will update and fix)
EDIT: tried with Sony Updater. The thing reinstalled everything, erased my data (not much data really but I'd have liked to keep it) and then installed B1.10. I'm at a loss here.

CM9? Not sure what that is.
It COULD be hardware, I've seen many people complaining about the same thing with Xperia phones. Even on the Sony forums (and Sony's response is always "check the router"). But since other people don't have this isuue, I'm guessing it's gotta be solvable by software.
I fear that if it's the model and if I just return it, they'll give me another one and it will have the exact same problem
Edit: ok, found that CM9 means a custom ROM. I guess after installing a firmware, installing a ROM shouldn't be too much of a problem (even if I don't fully understand the whole thing). Will try. Any tips?
Edit2: oh dear god, I just went to the list here on XDA, there's so many! I thought it was just one! Um... help? I'm completely lost here.
Okay, CM9 is AOSP android ( the pure android, without Sony's framework or addons) with some extra features. Actually not all xpu models suffer from the problem you describe. My suggestion is that you exchange it for a new model. But if you want to try cm9, pm me. I'll give a detailed guide

Yes, shiny new under warranty. I'm going to take it there tomorrow. Haven't decided if I'm gonna root it or not. I mean... what's more likely? That it's a software problem and can be solved by instaling custom ROM? Or that it's a hardware problem and I should ask for another one? What are the chances that a new one WILL have working Wi-Fi?
I'ts been a crazy week trying to sort this thing out. I'm completely lost and willing to do anything. But yeah maybe I shouldn't jump into rooting if changing is easy (but WILL it be easier? I'll know that tomorrow when visiting my carrier I suppose).
Typical software developer, my frist instinct was to try and solve it myself
Quick solutions...
Flash the lastest stock ROM using flashtool, you know, download and install the program, download the ROM, put in firmware folder, click at the thunder icon, choose flashmode pick the ROM and follow screen instructions.
If doesn't work, go for your warranty.
Any question just ask.
EDIT: You need to install drivers for flashing, is at drivers folder, you can search a tutorial for flashtool.
