[Q] ICS Leak - Screen Shaking - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I followed instructions carefully from epinter's thread and flashed the ics leak 3 times, however I still receive a pretty violent shaking of my screen that doesn't quit. Any ideas of what might be causing this?
I would post this in the development section under Bugs but I do not have enough posts.

I get the same screen and reboot issues. I'm pretty sure it is due to the leak being an unfinished dev build. In other words... Moto didn't officially release it because it wasn't ready for general use.

Some testers report that the rom works well for us so there is still hope, let's give time to devs for their work.
If Motorola had a really working ICS without releasing it, it would really be a shame...

when connected the USB cable, it shaked untile reboot.

I also follow the instructions, and still having the same issue as you, even though it's my 3rd try. Guess we'll have to wait till the devs get to a solution. Just be patient, this doesn't even have 24 hs out.

Which version did you install (mine, epinter, or lokifish)?
What was you install procedure?

I have installed the ZIP made by epinter and my only problem was the camera, some random reboots and I was unable to use the cellphone after going into webtop (have to remove the battery).
Try to wipe data, wipe cache, wipe dalvik and then reinstall the epinter zip.
My worked like a charm.

Also check your tegraparts. There's a hunch in the FIXIT thread that ones with their parts starting in d00 are having problems.

Same bugs here. My tegrapart is 1100:100:800. AT&T atrix.

[Q] Unlock bootloader now or wait till offical release?

I am currently perfectly fine with my deivce right now. Only thing i want is google voice video chat which is in 2.3.4 update i believe and hdmi mirroring which should be possible now that the bootloader is unlocked.
Anyone know around what date the officak release should be? It should soon right?
No word on official release... people think it's in the next few weeks but it's just speculation given the quality of the builds seen so far.
Personally, I'd say wait. The 2.34 version everyone is flashing right now is more for play than use at the moment. Wait at least until some more complete/stable roms have been built or the various issues people have been having with the leaked version have been fixed.
I agree with mysticdrew. I have decided to wait for a week or two till we get the official update to 2.3.4. I will unlock only once CM is available for atrix.

+1. I have no problem waiting a month or more for an official 2.3 update .
In kenneth's unlock guide there's 24 steps to unlock. With the official 2.3.4 you start at step 13, which is where the steps are easier/safer.
I also am waiting on something more stable. But I'm still refreshing the forums every few hours and getting my reading in! Best advise I can give if you are unsure is read read read before you attempt.
I unlocked mine and it was relatively simple to do. The only problem I had was the /data wipe.

Are you for serious? I mean its a developer community, and the gingerbread rom out there is not really a test Rom, its Motorola release leak. I think its worth installing it. And its very simple! And totally safe.

yes I'm serious. The leaked build is not specifically for US AT&T
The leaked build from Hong Kong / Taiwan was probably not built for a device that is exactly like ours. Test phones can have different hardware. Don't expect everything to work, it's super-duper beta and since we've all only been unlocked 24hrs no one really knows how usable it is! Flash at your own risk... (PS you can 'Skip' Motoblur just by hitting 'Menu' during setup. It won't connect anyway...)

Why mess with all of this when within a month or so we can get a fully supported OTA update? The current formal Atrix build is just fine. Unless you're a dev trying to build ROMs or something, I don't see a huge benefit other than just saying you have the latest and greatest. There's multiple posts in the Atrix section with "I applied 2.3.4 and X does not work properly", not worth it IMO when there is no significant benefit.

The unlock is relatively simple yes, but the 2.34 leak isn't issue less for sure - there are resolution issues, home button issues, data speed issues, network issues, lots of small issues people have been having (all probably fixable for sure, but definitely a n00bie would be overwhelmed).
point of having unlocked bootloader is to have custom and 3rd party solutions.
what point is it to wait for the official release when you can still enjoy the hot cake now and switch to official release when it is out?
in that case you do not need the unlocked bootloader in the 1st place.

True, access to custom and 3rd party solutions, but that has no bearing on the decision to wait until there's a stable solution unofficial or official. There's a stability threshold everyone has and for some obviously it's met and for others it hasn't.
I'm going to wait for there to be a stable rom, or at least for the official gingerbread release.

I agree. I see no problem with unlocking now, but since there isn't much to do with it right now I just won't do it. I'm not interested in some buggy Taiwan or whatever build of the GB update...
Maybe I'm missing something, but is there anything else we can do with the unlocked phone RIGHT NOW?
Not to be a **** but the whole point of XDA is to try things before they are meant to be tried and trying things that shouldnt be tried. Im running 2.3.4 and it is completely stable, no freezes or reboots. Only thing that does not work is motoBlur and Fingerprint reader. This build is completely safe if you read the directions and then read them again.
IMO no. You can apply barely tested stuff, shake your fist in anger when multiple core functions break, and then flash back to stock w/ root . If you're a dev, then yes all of this 2.3.4/unlock stuff is like Christmas right now.
Like I said, many people have tried 2.3.4 and its STABLE.
You can also use cwm recovery now without having to plug your AC charger in. For me, that in itself is worth unlocking the bootloader over.

- resolution problem
- exchange does not work
- marketplace may not work
- webtop does not work out of the box, need to re-enable with additional steps
- fingerprint reader does not work
- home button does not work
- cardock may not work
- stock ringtones are missing
- motoblur does not work
All this just to get a HKTW 2.3.4 a few weeks in advance??
the point of XDA is NOT for a general user to try out stuff before devs have had a chance to try it out for less than 24 hrs.

This doesn't assure people it's stable, and if it were perfectly stable, there wouldn't be multiple threads about fixing some of the issues from flashing this. It's a beta, and not even for the US phones. Don't be so naive as to think you know everything about this build, and also don't be so pigheaded as to think you know better than the devs who give us this stuff, and posted the aforementioned warning. Anything which is alpha or beta is not stable, or it would be live and in all our phones right now from Moto/AT&T. If people don't want to flash it, that's up to them!

[ROM] [LEAK] 2.3.5 OTA Update

Leaked OTA update from QA servers, found via project Cheesecake (YUMMM!) -- Thanks to ztotherad for the heads up that he may have found something, that's what started our chase!
Bootloader still locked. Battery bug still exists. If after flashing, it asks you to proceed to another (smaller) update (it shouldn't), don't do it. Consider yourself warned.
Flash over stock 2.3.4. Won't work with custom roms! Do not try!
Nothing really dramatic has changed, really, I'm just posting this for devs and whatnot to get their roms updated and such, but everyone else is welcome to install.
After install, you will need to root with zergRush. Now, I'm not sure if you can flash this in ClockworkMod Recovery, I haven't tried. Your best bet would be to throw this on the sd card, rename it UPDATE.zip and then boot into stock recovery and flash.
Changelog (not my change log)
Code:
1.3.412:
Based on 2.3.5 framework
Lockscreen dramatically optimized
Couple kernel changes (no idea what)
System is overall SLIGHTLY snappier compared to 2.3.4

Still no battery fix.... grrrreeeeat
I wonder if upgrading the kernel will mess things up with existing ROMs.
Will avoid for now until we know exactly what this does.
You posted to a different rooting tool. Does this mean Pete's Motorola Rooting Tools won't work? Sounds like what they did was cover up that exploit then and that's probably what this update is.
I've got to on the "SLIGHTLY" snappier quip in the change log. I'll stay on 2.3.4 with the Liberty ROM.
But thanks for the heads up!
Thanks for the heads up regarding this 2.3.5. I will pass on this for now too since my phone is working well with the Liberty ROM and I see no real reason to go to 2.3.5 if the battery bug is still there.
Maybe if that updated the camera app to the same one that the bionic uses or did some super speed tweaks, but i don't see that as being the case.
I will download it to keep at the ready, just in case.
With a leak ota for 2.3.5 its getting more and more likely that this phone will get ics. The razr which runs 2.3.5 will be getting it so some hope is there. Im hoping that the music issue is cured with this although I doubt it. It just seems to be a bug that will plague the x2 until its dead.
Thanks will be putting this on my phone.

Yeah, it's a reverse package, that takes you from 1.3.412 to 1.3.409 and adds a couple bloatware apps and binary files.. worthless. One of the added apps is only for moto engineers, so you can't even use it (Bug2Go).
lmao.. seems everytime I go to release an update, we get one of these

It shouldn't. This is only a very minor update from what we see and the kernel version barely budged.
Thanks for this, but i usually don't update to Android unless a number of ROMs are building off of it so I know it's okay.
A quick question, does this battery bug (I'm assuming the jumping after restarting is the bug) exist on a stock unrooted phone as well? I cannot tell because there's no percentage, but does the reboot/battery jump happen on stock as well on the X2?

I think it's across the board. Even my buddies ATRIX does it on 2.3.4 stock. He can be in the red and reboot and it will be 50% again.

Leaked ICS - Constant Reboots

So I've updated to the new ICS per instructions laid out in the threads. I updated this last night.
Most everything seems to be running okay. My problem is with constant reboots. If I speak to people on the phone for more then 1 or 2 minutes it'll reboot on me. Several times I've attempted to unlock the phone and it'll reboot.
Any suggestions?
Help is greatly appreciated.

This place needs less lenient moderation.
You should just read the Bugs/Fixes thread, there are a lot of possible solutions to your problem, plus almost nobody didn't had this reboot issue, so you are not going to get anything creating another thread.
Help some guys in the Q/A forum and you'll get you permissions, that's the reason of the limitation, and it's not that hard.

Yeah, way too sensitive. Damn, maybe it's just my Droid X2. I'd scroll up an down and it was just super sensitive, moving up and down at the slightest touch.
- Sung
Also -- the screen seemed to flicker way more. I think some of it was intentional (the screen dimming and brightening). As much as I liked the look, I went back to CM7.
I haven't noticed any screen flicker, or too sensitive touch
It has seemed less sensitive, to me
You are not the only one. Had same thing on my DX2. It happened 4-5 times.
I just kept trying to get "power off / reboot" screen and reboot. After reboot everything was good.
Also had faster battery drain, purchased a 3600mAh and it would almost last 10 hours on CM10.
Two days ago went back to CM7, battery will last 14-16 hours with same usage.
Going to wait for next CM10 release to try again.

You guys need to understand that this ROM will never be perfect. Even the next update will have issues.
Understand, also understand ANY ROM can have issues, including Vz ROMs.
It's about what works for each person, in this case I am waiting for the next release, please don't get defensive because we had issues. They happened, no big deal, we have made decisions to move back to CM7.
I happen to think DZK has done a great job with CM10 and I will be moving back.

Oh I'm not being defensive. Sorry to come off that way. I just see that you guys are newcomers to the forums. A lot of newcomers have been posting about issues not understanding that our Droid X2 is not like other phones that get custom ROMs. Our CM10 is not really complete and most likely never will be because motorola hates us and doesnt want to unlock our bootloaders. If you guys are new to the DX2, I didnt want you expecting a full featured bugless ROM like, lets say the Galaxy Nexus would get. Even though its CM10, we are running it on a Gingerbread Kernel which will always cause issues. That, along with not being able to change or update the drivers doesnt help. Thats why I said even the next update will most likely have the same issues. Most of us just chose to deal with them.

I wasn't aware of the Motorola situation when I purchased the DX2, but quickly found out. I came from the Samsung world (Fascinate) as my last device and it seemed custom ROM's were very easy. With the DX2 it has been anything but easy. But for now really happy with the device overall and the CM10 ROM will make it great. The primary reason for my move back to CM7 was a call issue that seems to be well documented. If it isn't corrected with the new version of CM10 I will make adjustments and stick with it. Also the DX2 community here on XDA is great.
I haven't had the any call issues, but I make/receive very few calls
mostly texts and emails

Hey there -- just wanted to also say that I hope I wasn't coming off as a complainer (which probably meant I was!). I'm totally and absolutely grateful for all of dragonkiller's work on porting CM. I HATED my Droid X2 with BLUR -- and it has been a great joy to use since I switched to CM7.2.
I do wonder, though, that Jellybean requires a more powerful processor? CM10, outside of the sensitivity issue, felt slower in every way. I just may keep CM7.2 on this phone forever -- it's just a great ROM.
If JB felt slower to you then something is wrong. Did you install it from a clean 2.3.4 SBF?

Actually upgraded from CM7 to CM10 first time. Since moving back to CM7, I did an SBF with a clean install of CM10 and things are MUCH BETTER. Not going back at this point. This is only day two, but things are good. I did figure out that when I installed an app that CM10 did not like the screen started acting strange, but getting rid of the app and rebooting solved the issue.
I did end up with one strange problem, still working on it. I used Titanium to restore most of my apps, but wanted to do a clean install on Flash Player. So went in found the apk from my file mgr, selected "install", went to what I call the Android Install screen with two buttons at the bottom (Cancel & Install), tried to select the Install, nothing happened. I do have "Unknown Sources" checked in Security. I have tried other apk's just to test and none seem to work. Tried to move the apk's to the SD0 card, and that had no effect either. The strange thing, I had Flash Player working before going back to CM7.

[Q] Specific ROM Help

OK, so I haven't posted much in this forum in general because I haven't had a need to really. I find what I need read and move on. But because of that I can't post in the developer section to ask this question before I flash this ROM so I will ask it here. So I'm going to take the plunge and flash Newts NOS m7 ROM. But after reading about 60% of a 949 page thread I do have some confusion. There were some updates and patches I'm going to call them for a lack of better term. I don't need to run any type of beast mode kernel. So what patches or fixes do I need to add in order for everything to work on this ROM? And I'm choosing this one over the alpha Sense 5 ROM based on data working with Verizon and not working with the alpha. At least nothing has been posted that it's working in all aspects now. I appreciate the help and hope that I can be rocking the NOS rom by tonight before I go to bed.
Really? No help out of 60 views?

Well I have the full app plus a couple of the other downloads that are mentioned to have off the bat. But has the ROM download been updated with the patches that fix stuff? Thank you for your response by the way.

3.0.7 is the only thing you need to have as of today it contains everything, patches are minor small updates and newtoroot usually will tell you what patch you need when they are released.

So you are saying that the kernel patch, the call patch, and the other patch are all included in the 3.0.7 build and I shouldn't worry about them even though people are having issues with the ROM in certain areas such as what the patches fix? I'm asking for clarification because I can't afford to screw up my one and only phone. Besides Viper Rom this Nos 7 Rom seems to be the best out there for what I want until the update comes out. This is me being cautious and doing my research. I don't want to sound like a jerk. Just trying to have everything lined up right.

Again.... just install the full rom. All is included.. Don't see how you could be confused with that statement.

All you really need to worry about if it says full Rom or not. If it is a full Rom flash it after that there is nothing else to do.

Thanks for the help. I should just take the plunge but like I said before I'm just trying to do all the research that I need and to be as well read on it before I just jump into something. I'm not a first time rooter or flasher of ROM's. This one just has me timid because even the latest posts in the thread of the ROM is saying there are data issues. So I hope you can see where my concern is coming from. I'll flash it tomorrow and see what happens from there though.
OK, so I just took the plunge and did the flash. One problem I have right off the bat is that Gmail keeps closing and failing. I can't have that because all of my most important e-mails come in thru that. So is there a fix or do I just have to go back to stock?

Never heard of that issue. I would just re-wipe and re-install the rom.

Did you even wipe data or did you just install the rom and hope that you wouldn't have to do anything about your already installed apps?

You won't get any help if you don't tell us what you did..... I have never heard of ANY rom that gmail doesn't work.
and YELLING AT PEOPLE DOESN'T HELP EITHER.
Well, it wasn't meant to come out as yelling. And I didn't do anything but install the ROM just like everyone kept telling me to do. Oh and the weather on the lock screen is broke too. It always says no weather data available.
Well nothing like feeling even more of an ass. I never saw the replies I had already gotten from you guys. I guess my page wouldn't refresh. I'll wipe it and re flash it on I guess. I did all the stuff I needed to do before flashing it so I"m in the clear on that one. I'm not sure as to what all the extra apps that I've never seen before are but I'm ok with that for now. Oh, um isn't there suppose to be a swipe screen to wake feature on this ROM? I can't find it.
So G-mail is back to working now. I reflashed the ROM and did a cache and dalvik cache wipe. I also did the lock screen patch and volume to wake patch. I still don't have weather on the lock screen though. And the little click sounds that are turned on for me for when I unlock or lock the screen....yeah I can't hear them.
So, everything works now. Go figure....well minus those sounds that for some reason I actually really really liked having turned on before I flashed this. Maybe they will just start working again too.

So, in other words, all of your problems were self inflicted.
Do the flashing process properly next time and you won't have these issues.
Nope not self inflicted. I did the flash exactly the way I was suppose to. Not sure why flashing it a second time worked but it did. Now to figure out how my nanddroid back up got deleted.....or if it's just hidden and I don't know where it is. I use TWRP recovery by the way.
